WE GOT THIS! By LaToya Wilson

Covid-19 has thrown many of us into a snafu when it comes to everyday life. The "new normal" as it's now referred to has taken a toll on households, businesses, relationships, mentally and personally. More so than ever, women are stepping up to the plate to wear even more hats at alarming rates. Some are mothers, teachers, counselors, therapists, entrepreneurs, caregivers, and the list goes on and on. Women-owned business has increased! According to Business Wire (September 2019), "over the past five years, women-owned businesses have increased 21%. That was pre-Covid19! Imagine what the numbers will look like by the end of this year! Women are at the forefront of owning business right now. Now is the time to launch that idea—dust off that notebook. Engage social media. Apply for business grants and connect with other women entrepreneurs. Speak it into the universe. There is no time like the present to enhance the wheel instead of reinventing it.

"LORD YOUR WORTHY OF MY PRAISE". Let's go back to the moment you saw your video going viral on social media, what was your thoughts?

Watching your video, myself, I saw so much emotion and passion, where does your musical inspiration come from?

When I was told my video went viral on social media, I was shocked. I was like woooow!! I was astounded. Of course, I was not expecting it to. Singing is my passion. I post all the time. I feel I owe it ALL to God, my followers, fans, supporters, and family. Because without them it could have never happened.

When I was told my video went viral on social media, I was shocked. I was like woooow!! I was astounded. Of course, I was not expecting it to. Singing is my passion. I post all the time. I feel I owe it ALL to God, my followers, fans, supporters, and family. Because without them it could have never happened.

MY MUSIC SPEAKS TO THE YOUNG AND LOST. Watching your video, myself, I saw so much emotion and passion, where does your musical inspiration come from? My musical inspiration comes from my Grandmother Dolly Tuggle, Auntie Christine Banks, and Lula Little. Beside coming up in church my grandmother taught me how to believe and to follow my dreams. She is my angel and my number one fan. you are a mom and artist how do you balance it all? For me I can honestly say being a mom and an artist is very hard. I wish I had more support with my children sometimes. They are the reason I remain focus and hold on. I can’t say I have the whole thing of balancing it all down pack yet. But I strive for greatness and better time management daily. There was plenty of days I’ve cried and thrown the towel in. There were days I even questioned God. But by His grace I’m able to stand today and give testimonies after testimonies of His goodness and how He’s kept me sane.

What does self-care look like for you? Self-care looks different to me. In a nutshell physically self-care is losing myself in my lyrics while singing. See music is my therapy. Emotionally self-care I keep a daily journal and I try to do something at least 2 to 3 times a week that makes Quandra happy. And mentally self-care is keeping my phone on do not disturb. It allows me to gain a sense of peace. How would you describe your genre of music? I personally describe my music as inspirational. So it’s not just something stuck in the gospel box. So many people tend to walk away before hearing or understanding the message for the mere fact of the word "gospel’. My lyrics speaks to the young, lost, confused, broken, matured, and all races. My music is motivational and gives you a sense of security and worship all at the same time.

A SONG OF HOPE. What message do you hope your supporters gain from every song? The message I hope my supporters gain from every song is the truth, change, and knowing who God is.

Who are your music influences? My music influencers are me, Jonathan McReynolds, Le’Andria Johnson, Todd DuLaney,Tamela Mann, William Murphy, Shana Wilson, and Tye Tribett.

You are the CEO of Quandra Music LLC, tell us about your business? Quandra Music LLC focus areas are reaching the underrated. My ministry also is to shed light on the broken, homeless, lost, and unforgiving. Your new song “Worthy", What did recording that song mean for you? The aecording of Worthy is about letting the people know no matter what you go through in life God still deserve our worship and praise. The song “Worthy “ for me means hope.

Do you have any new projects, we should be getting excited about? Yes, I have several new projects coming. I try not to speak on them prematurely, but you as well as my fans can expect to see me more in different cities giving back to the community.

Must The Man Match The Money? By Christina Drew

Ladies, as a single woman working hard to plan your life, how important are finances when it comes to finding a life partner? If he is a great guy, would you give him a chance and overlook his financial situation? Here's my story: Growing up poor, I knew it was imperative to get an education, become gainfully employed, and make a wise choice when choosing a partner. In school, I worked extremely hard. I made sure that every assignment in front of me received 110% of my time and attention. I studied hard and maintained an A average throughout my entire school. Attending a prestigious college and being recognized for my accomplishments was at the forefront of my efforts, which was my main focus. While other girls were having fun at sleepovers and weekend trips to the mall, I was home reading and studying. School dances, homecoming, and even prom seemed to have crept right past me, and before I knew it was my senior year. I had applied for every single scholarship and been sought out by some of the most notable schools in the nation. I decided on Harvard when I was six years old, so I did not open a single letter until I received my response from Harvard at the start of my senior year. I GOT IN! My dreams had come true, and I knew life would go just as I had planned! My hard work had finally paid off! All I had to do was make it through the remainder of my senior year. By the time I made it to graduation, I had found myself exasperated and overwhelmed with the thought of starting college. Nonetheless, I gave the Valedictorian speech like a total Queen and walked across the stage like a Boss. Four years of college flew by, and I hadn't had much excitement. I worked and studied hard, so I had no time for dating. But, since I wore my hair twisted into a bun and big baggy clothes, guys didn't seem interested anyway. I completed the Master's program and went straight into the workforce. I landed a sixfigure salary, and my company provided a corporate living, since I relocated to the East Coast from Texas. I had finally made it! The second part of my plan had been checked off my list, and I was living the dream! Being in a new city has its challenges, but I had been single my entire life and was ready to find my King. I had worked so hard and knew things would fall into place because - I was the Total Package. Before I started my new job, I went out and got my long silky black hair trimmed and added a bit of color. I traded my baggy sweatpants for tight-fitting pencil skirts and custom trousers that perfectly accentuate my curves. Big Apple was the shade of lipstick I chose, and as I pulled up in my brand new Mercedes and parked in my reserved parking space, I spotted a group of well-dressed men chatting just outside of the office building. I crossed my fingers and stepped out of the car, hoping to find my husband in that crowd. At a glance - every single one of them was married.

By Christina Drew

We exchanged nods and flashed a quick smile, rushed past them, and hurried into my office. After exchanging formalities and being introduced to the entire staff - I realized that I was the only person that wasn't married. When they asked me to talk about myself, I felt so embarrassed. I had nothing to tell. "Just me and my dog Max, we're new in town, nice to meet you all." The workday was a breeze; I finished my work early and waited anxiously to get off. At 4, I took the stairs to avoid taking the elevator down with the rest of my new coworkers. The only thing on my mind was getting home and signing up for one of those corny online dating services. I signed up and posted the best photos I could find of myself. I didn't bother scrolling through countless pictures; I was going to let love find me, I was giving it a small boost, right? All night long, my notifications were going off, and when I woke up the next morning, I had almost 50 messages from guys who wanted to meet me. I shuffled through the messages and deleted the guys that weren't my type. Then I looked at profiles to see the kind of work they did. I was devastated. By the time I was done, I was left with two guys. Both were mediocre in the looks category, but one had a child, and that was an automatic deal-breaker, so I responded, and days later, we were out eating dinner together at one of the famous fine dining restaurants in town. This gentleman had a nice car and lived in a beautiful part of town. He told me he was a business owner, and he would soon be a millionaire. I was intrigued and wanted my shot at marrying rich, so I hung on tight. Over the several months, things had blossomed, and I felt like I was falling for this guy. I met his family and even took him as my guest to my company Christmas party. Everyone was blown away, and what a great catch he was. A year flew by before we could catch ourselves, and we were deeply in love! He talked to me about our future, and it seemed that things were perfect, so I decided to invite our families over for his birthday dinner. I planned everything out and had a personal chef to cater the party. I had someone come and decorate, and every detail was just as divine. Throughout the evening, I watched him mingle with my parents and noticed small whispers between the guests, so I was excited to see what everyone thought of him.

By Christina Drew

When it was time to cut the cake, I asked everyone to head into the kitchen, but he was nowhere in sight. I gathered all of the guests and walked in to find him down on one knee - asking me to marry him! I could not believe it! Part 3 of my plan was in motion! We immediately started planning the wedding and picked a date. We discussed moving in together before the ceremony to make things easier on us both and I was ready to run home and pack right away. I called off work the next day to get a jump on things and stopped by his apartment to drop off some items. Although I had a key, he didn't expect me, so he left his laptop sitting open. I scrolled through and found a message from his bank about his account being overdrawn. Digging a bit further, I found several credit card companies' messages about outstanding balances and being over his limit. My jaw dropped! I called him immediately and told him to get home. After telling him what I found, he came clean. His business had failed years ago, and he was living off of his credit cards and had filed bankruptcy a year into our relationship. He was BROKE! He was the sweetest, most caring guy I had ever met, and I loved him, but he did not have a dime of his own money to his name, so I decided to end the relationship. I had sacrificed my entire life to get what I felt I deserved and was not going to end up with someone who did not meet my expectations. There were many nights that I wondered if I had done the right thing, but decided to stick with the plan. After all.. The money must match the man.

Inspiration By Teriece Cherell

3 Things to Consider When Starting a Business There are many factors that affect our motivation when it comes to entrepreneurship and business. Of all these factors, the three most important factors to be a successful business owner are. 1. Know Your Purpose 2. Know Your Goals 3. Know Yourself Know Your Purpose The most important factor when starting a business is to Know Your Purpose. Ask yourself Why am I starting this business? What specific problem do I hope to address? Why do I feel that I can address this issue and provide a solution to it? What signature product or service can I provide to address this issue? When I first decided to start my business, Transforming Consciously, it was birthed out of a desire to address some relationship issues that I spoke about in my book. My book, Live, Learn, Love: With an Open Heart Life Lessons on Cultivating Healthy and Meaningful Relationships is a self-help motivational book that encourages readers to acknowledge and appreciate the variety of relationships in their lives. When I re-evaluated my life, I realized that my relationships not only helped me to discover who I am but also shaped me into the woman that I am today. So, the purpose of starting my busines was to help individuals appreciate the lessons and blessings of their relationships. I wanted to help them evaluate these lessons and make better choices in their lives and relationships. I sought to provide products and services to motivate, inspire and empower them to create healthy relationships, to set healthy boundaries and to stay true to themselves. Relationships, like love, is universal. Every one that you encounter has had or is currently in some type of relationship. Relationships are something that everyone experiencer, whether good or bad. Once I decided on the purpose for my business, the next step was knowing the goals of my business. The goals should align with the purpose of the business.

Know Your Goals It is important to clearly define your goals for the business. You must be strategic with the planning process and then knowing how to implement this plan. This is when you ask yourself the other 4 Ws: Who, What, Where, When? The responses to these questions greatly influence your business. Are you just trying to make money? Are you trying to leave a legacy for your children? Are you trying to make a difference in someone’s life? Who is your target audience? Who are you seeking to help or can benefit from the products and services? What steps are you working on to put this plan into action? Is there a time frame for achieving these goals? Some of these questions I was able to answer without much trouble. While some other questions required a little more thought and effort. My goal was to make a difference, leave my legacy not only to my child but to the world. I am really passionate about helping others especially in their relationships. Of course, I wanted to believe that my message is for everyone, it is not. Throughout this entrepreneurial journey, it is important to ask these questions often. Oftentimes we can get distracted by other people and things and can forget our purpose and plan. We get caught up in social media, in our personal lives and in our jobs. As women, we wear many crowns and there is a high level of expectation placed on us to perform and deliver at a maximum level. With such high demands and pressure on us, we can allow the distractions of life to overwhelm us. Write your goals down for the business. Make sure you have a strategic plan in place. But more important than just writing the goals down, is writing the action steps needed to complete these goals. A good example for your busines would be to have SMART goals. You’ve heard of SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time oriented. This is the basic framework of any goal that you have,Especially personal or business goals. Practicing effective time management strategies is crucial to your success as an entrepreneur. It is important to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Engaging in self-care tips such as meditation, taking walks, scheduling time for activities that bring enjoyment are as essential as the air we breathe. When working on your goals, it is important to know yourself.

Know Yourself Last but definitely not least, is knowing yourself. This tip is equally important because you have to know yourself in order to address the other two tips. This entails knowing yourself inside and out,and staying true to who you are. This means allowing your faults, flaws and failures to fuel your purpose and passion. This is when you have to encourage yourself and look yourself in the mirror. Know what you do and do not want.know what does and does not work. Know who is and is not for you and on your side. There will be some lessons that you will learn about yourself in this process. You will learn about the strengths and weaknesses that you did not know existed. But do not be afraid of the lessons learned, do not be afraid of the person that you are becoming. Embrace the lessons learned and use them to your advantage. Use them to tap into that potential. Use them to enhance and grow your business. You may have heard the saying, the same thing that you do to get the woman/man is the same thing that you have to do to keep him/her. Well the same concept relates to business.knowing your purpose, knowing your goals, and knowing yourself are the same things that will keep your business successful. When you lack motivation and get lost in the hustle and bustle, it is important to remember the reasons you started the business. Get back to the mindset, the goals and the vision that you had. Get back to the dreaming, excitement and energy that you had in the beginning. It will take some work, time, effort, sacrifices, some wins and even some losses. It is easy to throw in the towel when things get too hard, business is failing not making money, or when no one is supporting the business. Yet when you get back to the basics, there you will find the motivation necessary to sustain your business.

Staying Empowered During Quarantine Time

Latrina Caldwell

Hey Girlfriend, it's your MHP (Mental Health Professional) Latrina C. We are all doing our best to maintain and adapt in so many ways during this unexpected and unpredictable pandemic and civil unrest. We must be diligent and mindful of the importance of taking care of our mental & physical health. So let us shift our mindset and focus on how we can utilize this quarantine-time to empower ourselves. Think about all the things you wanted to do, but life circumstances presented obstacles-and distractions. Think positively about the many ways that we can take advantage of the days ahead. First and foremost, you must take care of yourself! These days the importance of our mental health must become one of your top priorities. We must prepare ourselves as we now have a better understanding of what to expect from round 1. We must act responsibly to be protected and prepared for what is predicted to be a round 2 anticipated in the coming months. Take care of yourselves and your families. These are unprecedented times for us, so be mindful that our children require the same care we apply for ourselves. This experience is scary and confusing for children making it crucial to also do mental health check-ins. Children cannot rationalize or understand things in the way that we can. There are many resources available to assist in supporting the mental and emotional health and well-being of children. Just remember there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let's come out on the other side of this pandemic better than ever. Love on and empower yourself. Monthly Activity: Purchase a pack of post-it notes (grab your favorite color). Write your favorite quotes or affirmations on each one of them. Please post them in the most common spots in your home. These will add daily empowerment/motivation to your life.

Trina Tips: 1. Do a social media check “out” once a week. Take a mental break for your own peace and sanity. • Remember you become your thoughts, try to do a mind sweep. 2. Apply daily self-care in your everyday life. Spend some time alone (Sit in full peace). • here are simple things around the house you can do such as take a bubble bath, light a candle & play some relaxing music. 3. Find an inexpensive hobby - Think of things you currently enjoy or that you have been wanting to do. • Make good use of this time at home: Start a garden or paint your room. 4. Exercise, make good use of the space you are in. • Walk up and down the stairs for ten minutes, do some jumping jacks, watch a YouTube workout video and participate in a weekly challenge. 5. Journal during this experience. • Write about your goals - create a plan for the next 3, 6 & 9 months. • Set an alarm/reminder for these personal self-care / empowerment activities that will help you. • • • • • • •

Empower your mind Take control and own your life Take your power back Strengthen your mind by feeding yourself positivity Identify and work on things that you would like to change Push through distractions and overcome obstacles Keep yourself motivated If you are looking for a motivation boost and a support team to hold yourself accountable as you endure this time, C2C Coaching is offering complimentary consultation calls that will get started on the journey to building up and empowering yourself.

"JUST PIE" RECIPE

By Dee Christian

I love to bake homemade cornbread and pies, here is a quick and simple “Just Pie Recipe” that is made from the heart of the Mississippii Delta.

“Just Pie” or “Chess Pie”, is a staple in the South. It was called “Just Pie” by many slaves because when they would cook, and Someone would ask them “what kind of pie or are you baking?”, they would reply Just a pie”. This meant no pecan pie, no potato pie, it was just pie. It had the basic of ingredients, so that is why many people called it “Just Pie”, and Northerners thought that Southerners were saying “Chess Pie” instead of “Just Pie”. Chess Pie is what the pie is commonly called now, but I still prefer to call it “Just Pie” …

Develop A Mirror of Hope As you look in the mirror… I look in the mirror too… We both bare and expose our rawness… Both mentally and spiritually… Your eyes are focus like a lens to the mirror... The lens of our eyes focus deep On what’s in our hearts and minds… You have passed judgment… I know I sure have… The mirror gets smudge from steam… Have you vomited out of your mouth words of hate? I have plenty of times… As you wipe the steam off the mirror … Have you ever been so mad at such in such you wanted to punch them in the face… Yup I sure have… As I trace my initials on the mirror seal… Have you made a foul comment about another race? Yeah we both have… As you see all of you in the mirror… I look in the mirror guilty of my own prejudices … You and I are in the mirror real close… The pupils of both of our eyes are showing in the mirror Do you remember watching someone get beat up and you stood there Don’t be disappointed I have stood there too… You look into the mirror, I look at the mirror in dismay… We both have no words to say… Because to love thy neighbor we have not obeyed… You notice the sunshine on the mirror…. I notice a gleam or too… We both show a smile in clear view… I have messed up and so have you… As we both enter a new domain We bare it all with conviction and know hate starts deep from within… The tears from your face start to escape… My tears drip drop away… While the mirror fades… We both have to feel that pain… To develop, grow, and achieve a new mind frame… We both turn away from the mirror… And pinky swear… That we would develop our own mirror of hope… To be the ones to carry out the dream… And genuinely love all of humanity…

PRETTY AND MAKING MUSIC SPOTLIGHT

UPCOMING ARTIST SHIONDRIA DAVIS: Hand a pen over to Chicago-native, Shiondria, and watch her shake the room. At just 22, she dropped her first debut single ‘Sip Slow’ and it has the girls in awe! The ability to turn any situation she’s in into a lyrical masterpiece is what makes her music so relatable to many women. Her talents don’t just stop there. Writing for other artists’ in the industry, she’ll be making her way in as a household name in no time! What first got you into music? I honestly can’t remember a time when music wasn’t a part of my life. My parents aren’t musicians but we always kept a vast music collection in our home. One day my mom caught me singing along & confirmed I could sing. The rest is history lol How would you describe the music that you typically create? Someone close to me once said you don’t express your feelings with words; you express them with music. Every emotion I’ve experienced is heard in all of my material. Sometimes you’ll hear weaknesses. Sometimes you’ll hear strengths. Sometimes I might be yelling how I’m independent & don’t need a man for anything. Sometimes I’ll express my desire to have a partner to share my success with. It’s real. It’s raw. It’s honest. Most importantly, it’s something every woman can relate to. I make music for the GIRLS. That’s not to say that men can’t vibe out with me too but I always keep the next woman in mind.

Who would you most like to collaborate with? That’s a really good question. There are sooo many dope artists out right now. It’s hard to just choose one. Currently, I’d have to choose Eric Bellinger. People really have been sleeping on him. Not realizing he’s probably written a few of your favorite songs. I’m really trying to establish myself as a solid songwriter & he’s one of my biggest influences. On top of being able to write hits for other artists, he’s written a few of his own as well. That’s the goal for me. If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be? Right now, I’d have to say Brent Faiyaz. I’ve experienced one of his live shows & I loved the vibe. I feel like the crowd would be able to relate to my music.

What is one message you hope listeners gain from your music? That you don’t have to be strong all the time. As a black woman, the pressure is always on to have it all together & act like nothing ever bothers you. I don’t want that stigma to be continued. You can cry today & still be superwoman tomorrow, Queen. What was your inspiration behind your new song "Sip Slow”? Believe it or not Sip Slow was a freestyle. I recorded a voice note on my phone & wrote all the lyrics down later. I was going through so much in my personal life when I created it & I needed to express it somehow. Sip Slow is really just a diary entry through song. Y’all got all my tea with that record LOL What is the best advice you’ve been given in regard to your music? To stay true to who you are as a person & as an artist. As your career grows people will try to change your look, change your sound, change the way you handle certain things etc. It’s up to you to remain solid. What’s next for you?I’ m only 22 so the sky is the limit for me! But my babyyyy....my first project: June’s Journal Vol. 1. That’s coming very soon. I’ve also been writing for a few known artists so I’m excited about that too. What has been your biggest challenge in your music career so far? How did you overcome that obstacle?I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t believe in my music. I felt like everything I wrote was trash, honestly. One day I decided to stop doubting myself & just went for it. I knew I wanted to do music so I at least needed to try. With God, the support of my family & my best friend, I was able to overcome my fears. It was the best decision I’ve made so far.

Bonus: How would you describe a Pretty Woman Who Hustle's? A woman who is determined to rise despite anything thrown at her. She knows exactly who she is, what she wants, & won’t let anything or anyone get in her way. A BOSS!!!

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I Joined Pretty Women Hustle Network because not only do we support wome in business, but we provide mental health resources, blogging opportunities, encouragement and so much more. Here at PWH we are not just a group, we are all family. Being apart of the PWH Family is something words can't even describe. I love what I do here at PWH and hope you all love the community the same. What is the most amazing thing you have done this far in your career? Creating a balancing act. It sounds simple, and possibly underwhelming, but it is a big thing to accomplish! Being a mom, wife, Nurse, and have two businesses, is not easy! I am really proud of myself for finding a way to handle it all. What has been your favorite thing about being a part of PWH? My favorite part of PWH is seeing what a difference we make in people’s lives and businesses. We are here to support almost 1,000 women exclusively in our society, and over 7k Collectively across platforms, so when we give them ideas, encouragement, etc., it is amazing to watch them run with it and report their positive outcomes! What are you most excited to do as director at Pretty Women Hustle? As Executive Director, I am excited to turn PWH into something even bigger. I want to help millions of women, instead of thousands! I think PWH will be huge in the coming months. What are somethings about Direct sells that people should know? Being in direct sales is tough. It is not a, “get rich quick” kind of deal. You will never make a profit overnight. It takes a lot of hard work, passion, money, and dedication to turn your direct sales business into something amazing. When I started with Avon 4 years ago, I only dreamed about doing the things I’m doing today. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and create something amazing for yourself!
