Do you remember when you realized you had a gift or passion for helping others?
I would say I was about eight or nine, and my cousin was sick We were more like sisters She needed to take medicine, and she refused So, I took the medicine so she would take it I think that was the beginning of me wanting to help others

Meet Yolanda Clayton, a woman who has dedicated 18 years of her life to nursing Her passion for caring for others has led her to work in various healthcare settings, from hospitals to clinics and community health centers But nursing is not her only passion. Yolanda (Letitia Love) is also a talented writer with several published books to her name Her writing reflects her adventurous imagination and experiences as a nurse and a cancer survivor Yolanda’s books offer insight into the struggles and triumphs of those who face different life situations, illnesses, and her words provide comfort and inspiration to readers

You have spent over 18 years of your life in the nursing field. What inspired you to join the nursing industry?
I have wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl
My mom died when she was 21 from cancer, and I was 3 years old I wanted to give love and comfort to a person in their time of need
How did your experience as a skilled nurse prepare you for your role as a writer and entrepreneur?
My role as a writer also started at a young age I was the only child my mom and dad had, so my imagination was my best friend I loved to read, and I always found myself writing on anything I could get my hands on Being an entrepreneur is something I have always wanted I watch the ones I love get jobs and lose jobs I really wanted to be able to work on my terms
What message do you hope readers take away from your books?
I hope to take people on a journey when they read my stories Go to a special place Spark conversation I am working on a memoir about my journey with stage 4 head and neck cancer It will read like a novel I want to build awareness on the rise of head and neck cancer in the African American Community
What has been the highlight of your career thus far?
What has been the most challenging?
The highlight would definitely be hearing people talk about my stories Telling me how much they enjoyed them Speaking of my characters like they are their best friend or worst enemy Most challenging is some not understanding that, yes, I am a nurse, but writing is my passion I need it Some can’t understand the difference
What advice do you have for upcoming entrepreneurs?
To keep going Sometimes you will be your only cheerleader, but it will all be worth it in the end

A woman that does not let anything get in her way She uses the challenges in life as stepping stones to get where she needs to be
