PWH: What inspired you to go into Ministry? VT: The Holy Spirit leads me to speak to the individual, and I'm speaking from God's word. I have a clear vision that is a compelling vision to fill individuals' souls and gill the hearts with God's word. PWH: What is the mission behind Diamonds in The Rough Ministries? VT: Ministering to the whole body, mind, and soul, so that God can restore, rebuild, rebirth, and reflect on their beauty, so they can be Self-sufficient, to educate, to encourage, to strengthen, to have confidence, to empower, build leadership, to overcome their challenges that they face in their lives, find hope, purpose, and opportunity, NSpiteOf! Without the opportunity, there is no vision; without a vision, there is no opportunity. PWH: You are the founder of several initiatives that help women and their families; how have you been able to continue your work amid the pandemic? VT: I was able to minister to women in need of guidance for multiple reasons. Such as marriage counseling and stress management. I was able to bring families together safely during the pandemic for crafts, church services for military families, and lessons about God and Community. I made and donated hundreds of masks to people in the community who were most vulnerable to the virus, such as first responders, encourage the children to wear their masks, wash their hands, practice social distance, and always to love NSpiteOf. PWH: What do you hope women gain from encountering your mission? VT: As women, most of the time, we carry our scars in negative ways, domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, prostitution, human trafficking, incarceration, homelessness, divorce, illness, suicide, military wives, and teen pregnancy, etc.) I want women to gain and take the scars of their past situation or obstacles, wear them with strength, wear it in confidence, wear them in boldness and wear them NSpiteOf, and share and inspire other women. We can make a difference by using our talents or passions to reach those in the "valley of life." And that material things do not matter. On the day of your car theft, you barely mentioned it. That is what God wants us to do when life has interruptions. We are diamond in the rough and going from ashes to beauty. Becoming bold, beautiful, and blessed. Allow yourself to unleash your boldness! Affirming yourself with I AM, I AM fearfully and wonderfully made! All NSpiteOf! PWH: What are your hopes for 2021 in terms of Ministry? VT: For God to allow me to start a church. To lead and be Gods example to women and their families throughout the globe, and teach an individual in a positive direction to reach their goals for their spiritual guidance, The goal is not to change for the sake of change or merely making something different but making Ministry better is my goal, Ministry has to become better and different

LAKESHIA TAYLOR

LaKeshia Taylor is the owner of The Posh Frog Boutique. In her role, LaKeshia strategically prioritizes business objectives, community outreach, merchandising, capturing market share, product research, and analytics. LaKeshia attended Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. She earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering and held several industry certifications. She has also completed graduate course work in Business Administration at the E.J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University. She has been a Mechanical Engineer for the last 15 years, working in the Chemical and Refining industries. She is a Reliability Engineering Specialist for an Engineering consulting firm and loves solving problems and offering clients solutions. LaKeshia is happily married to Rhasean Taylor, and they have two amazing kids, Rhasean Jr. and Zoey. She enjoys attending church, traveling to exotic places with her family, and scuba diving with her husband. Most importantly, she understands the need to represent a company that provides apparel to gym enthusiasts and supports those who are just trying to get it together. She has struggled with weight her entire life and wanted to create a company that promotes positive self-esteem while trying to do your best. "I hate working out, but I know that in order to be at my best I have to remain active. I'm not a size small and never will be. I've learned how to love myself no matter what size I am. I LOVE Louisiana food and my husband is an excellent cook so you can imagine my struggle. I know that my weight fluctuates all the time and sometimes the only way I can get to the gym or be excited about working out at home is by looking good and feeling good in cute gym clothes. I created my company to give others that same excitement. Now my customers can purchase apparel from The Posh Frog and feel their best just like I do." - LaKeshia Taylor, Owner

PWH: How would you describe your brand in 5 words? LT: Premium fitness apparel meets fashion PWH: What inspired your start into entrepreneurship? LT: My weight loss struggles inspired me. When I didn't "look good," I didn't "feel good." In my mind, I didn't want to be the big girl at the gym in an oversized t-shirt and see-through leggings trying to get my body right. I couldn't find the right clothes to motivate me to even go to a gym!! Fitness was never important to me until I walked out of the doctor's office one evening crying after he told me, "if you want to grow with your kids, you need to lose weight." After that day, I changed everything. Now, almost four years later, I'm still on that journey with a greater goal to build a brand I pray can inspire women around the world. PWH: You are the proud owner of "Posh Frog Boutique"; who is your brand's audience? LT: My brand serves the everyday woman, the gym enthusiast, the ladies who are just starting to figure out how they will transform their bodies, and the fashionista who appreciates quality and style. Our brand was created for women of all sizes, reminding them to look good and feel good no matter what stage they may be in, and always Be Posh Fit! PWH: When shopping Posh Frog, what can women expect? LT: Women can definitely expect chic, high-quality products. The Posh Frog is where fitness meets fashion. It's where you will find amazing fitness clothing that you actually look good and feel good in. There are no transparent leggings here, hun!! PWH: How has the pandemic and 2020 as a whole impacted your business? LT: I started The Posh Frog Boutique in the middle of the pandemic. Creating this company was something I prayed about for quite some time. With much prayer and my very supportive husband's help, I decided that I didn't want the pandemic to be the reason my business was put on hold. I tried to step out on faith and start a company that I knew women would love. Some months, sales are excellent, while other months we struggle to sell a product. It's particularly hard-selling products that customers don't need right now, mostly when many women have gone from working out in the gym to working out in their living rooms at home. I know things will be different next year. I believe the best is yet to come, and The Posh Frog Boutique will be international brand women will go to when purchasing fitness apparel and accessories. PWH: What tips do you have for boutique owners to continue to thrive amid uncertainty? LT: Pray and never give up! Be at peace knowing that one day your business will operate at its fullest potential. "As my mother would say, no matter what, give it your best and let God do the rest, and as I would say believe in yourself and know that you are capable of anything you put your mind to."

Women Who Led In 2020

Tawanna Sams Tawanna Sams is a native of Queens, where she has lived a majority of her life. She graduated from the prestigious Townsend Harris High School with honors and then went on to obtain a degree in Computer Programming from Anthem Institute. Presently, Tawanna is a Product Owner for a major Healthcare Insurance Company focusing on Technology tools and initiatives. Tawanna sits on the board of BDPA, Black Data Processing Associates, an organization of professionals in or having an interest in the Computer Science and Information Technology fields. Tawanna is the Founder and CEO of TREMAINE IT Solutions, a Software Consulting & Development Company. When not working, she likes to spend her time reading, writing, and traveling. A former model, she traded in her runway shoes for a pen to pursue her true love of creating stories that readers will enjoy. Tawanna is also a published author and writes under the pen name Eva Tremaine. Eva has written six novels: Open: Love, Lust & Sexuations, The Unstable Trilogy, Seven Again: Coming Full Circle, and Betrayal Served Cold. Tawanna has overcome her fair share of trials and tribulations, and her motto: Your beginning does not dictate your end. As a child, Tawanna struggle with reading, speaking and had a host of developmental delays. Today she is thriving and continues to reach for the stars.

What inspired your start as a writer? I never imagined I would become a writer. Reading was one of many challenges I had as a child, but then one day it all clicked, and I overcame that hurdle. My first book Unstable was birthed from a short story contest I was having with my book club, Sugar & Spice Book Club. The short story was well received, and I was encouraged to turn it into a book. I have the women and men of from Sugar & Spice Book Club to thank for starting me out on this beautiful journey of writing. As a 6x Novel writer, how has your writing style changed from the beginning to now? When I wrote my first novel Unstable in 2013, I was wet behind the ears and a baby in the literary world. Over the years, I have learned so much and grown tremendously. I would not say my writing style has changed significantly over the years, but rather matured. I have learned the key elements to structure a story, build character development and keep the reader captivated. I continue to learn and grow as I consider book # 7.

"Your Beginning Does Not Dictate Your End"

What do you hope women gain from reading your work? I have many different sides to me, and that versatility can be seen in my writing style. I do not write in a specific genre, so depending on what you are reading, you get different versions of me. However, one thing remains the same, I give it my all and try to entertain, yet teach my readers. My books always have a twist, and you usually do not see it coming. The message I hope my writing platform resonates is be you, all the time and do not conform to who others want you to be. And if you choose to switch it up every now and then, go for it Queen! How has the Pandemic as a whole affected your ability to write? With all that is going on in the world, one can easily become distracted with life. To me, writing is therapeutic, so even when so much chaos was all around me during the pandemic, I wrote as an escape. I have so much gratitude that I am still here and have been afforded the opportunity to pen another page, another paragraph, another chapter! What advice do you have for writers wanting to publish during this time? I am a self-published author, so I do the majority of the work myself – from purchasing ISBN numbers, working with my creative director and literary editor, updating my website, digital marketing and the list goes on and on. Almost everything can be done virtually so now is a better time than any to publish.

"Be you, all the time and do not conform to who others want you to be. And if you choose to switch it up every now and then, go for it Queen!" - Tawanna Sams

5 tips for a new author? • Put all your effort into writing your story and let your editor worry about perfecting it • Do your research when writing your story so you remain authentic even when writing fiction • Invest in yourself and learn about the business of writing and publishing to become skilled in the craft, to help avoid common pitfalls for new writers • Your books are your legacy – consider what you are leaving behind • Book Clubs are your bread and butter they can make or break you • + 1 - If you self-publish, put yourself on a schedule and stick to it as best you can

A Story Of Inspiration With Erin Begnaud

As a stay at home Mom, I loved our new little boy, and I took great delight in caring for him around the clock. However, up until then, I had been a very active, creative, and busy woman, and this new "stay at home" normal lacked in the creative department. I began to pray and ask God what I could do from home to express the creativity that He had a place inside of me. After a few months of prayer and dreaming, I had begun to see these new yard signs on FB. That was it! I loved the concept of celebrating people and showing them love and appreciation. I immediately prayed over the idea and asked God to give me the name of my new little business. He brought to mind the scriptures that proclaim God's goodness and declaring His marvelous acts. Announce IT! Announce all Good Things. ~ That was it. I was going to use this business to celebrate people and proclaim God's goodness while doing it. In 2017 I Launched Announce IT and started renting out yard signs to Lafayette, LA. It took off immediately, and friends started noticing. Many of my friends loved the idea that I could do this from home while raising our son Truitt. It was the perfect creative outlet that I needed. I could care for our son in the day, and once my husband came home, I could go out and set the signs up in the evening. While talking amongst other stay at home Mom's, I realized that many were praying for a side income that they could do without being tied to a time clock, a mandated schedule, and a limited paycheck. Once again, I took it to the Father and asked him how I could help others thru Announce IT. Thru lots of prayers, planning, and hard work, I launched the franchise in the Fall of 2018. It flopped, big time. Not one person reached out to me about the business. I felt crushed and defeated. I knew the need was out there. I knew God's hand was all over this business, and He leads me every step of the planning process. It had been such a blessing to me, and I knew it would be a blessing to other households as well. I felt frustrated and defeated. I threw in the towel on the idea of franchising Announce IT. I closed the chapter. Enter COVID. In April of 2020, Covid was new on the scene, and it was changing everything normal in our lives. Schools were closing prematurely, jobs were happening remotely from homes, and many people lost their income source or experienced cuts in paychecks. One morning, I got out of bed, and as soon as my feet hit the floor, I heard God say, "Throw the nets out again." I knew instantly that He was referring to Announce IT. It had been about seven months since I had done anything related to the franchise. I was excited and nervous, but I immediately reached out to my printers and made sure they were still on board. I trimmed out the "fat" on the startup costs to help the budgets for all family types, offering three starter kit options. I began creating advertisement pieces and finalizing all the details. I remember posting my first advertisement, and before hitting the "post" button, I whispered, "Ok, you take it from here." I knew that God had given me the idea, and for it to be successful, I needed to give it back to him. In the first week, inquiries began pouring in, 10-15 a day. It was mostly overwhelming, but many just wanted the necessary information—such a difference from last Fall. In 3 short weeks, I was able to help three ladies start their own Announce It businesses, and it was all GOD! I told God that I would help as many as possible, as long as He blessed each of their business. I pray Deuteronomy 28 over every Announce IT business, and boy has God answered. Announce IT vendors are business owners. They keep 100% profits, they keep their schedules, they set their prices, and each one has seen their businesses flourish in the midst of a pandemic. Only God can do that. Now, my role is to offer support to each of them. I started this business to help others generate income for their families, and I get to help where ever I can. I often tell people that I am the lowest paid person in my own company, and it's true. I started the franchise to help others, and I will always run the franchise with that in mind. I love seeing these men and women to Announce IT grow and succeed. What an honor. We are currently in 7 US states and are looking to branch off in Canada in the near future. There is still a lot of room for more Announce IT vendors, and we welcome anyone who would like to step into entrepreneurship. It's been a fun adventure, and we love to Announce IT!

What is one thing you learned in 2020 regarding your business? We started in the summer of 2020; however, I realized that people need to be celebrated and loved during hard times, perhaps more than ever. And some businesses can flourish in times like these. What was your biggest struggle and Victory? The biggest struggle is finding the right marketing avenues. As a franchise, I know the need is out there for people who long to be business owners. Finding them is always something I struggle with. Am I marketing in the right areas? Are the ones praying for a business like this even seeing the opportunity? The most significant Victory is helping these new Announce IT business owners get started and seeing them succeed immediately. I had no idea God would take Announce IT into seven states in just five months. That's a Win-Win! If you could offer advice to someone trying to navigate entrepreneurship during the pandemic, what would it be? Pray! If you are a faithful believer, PRAY. God has all the answers, and He promises to direct your steps IF you seek him. What does it mean to be a Pretty Woman Who Hustles? God calls us his daughters, and He encourages us to use our talents and to be fruitful. As a matter of fact, He says that the man (woman) who doesn't work doesn't eat. God delights in hard workers and rewards them. It is an honor to take the talents He has given us and put that to fair use. What are your hopes for Announce IT in 2021? GROWTH! My goal is to help 20 more individuals become Announce IT business owners and create income for their families.

Makini created her third book "A Walk In My Stilettos: The Gratitude Journal" to share her success tools with other women which was followed by "The Couples Gratitude Journal". She is also the host of, the 5 stars rated, A Walk In My Stilettos Podcast for women looking for the tools and motivation to conquer their fears, own their story and strengthen their resilience muscle. Her passion to improve the quality of people’s lives includes making an impact in which she contributes her time spreading awareness of mindset, providing expertise on media platforms globally. She's been seen on Chatelaine, xoNecole, iHeart Radio, CBC, Vice News, a billboard in Times Square and much more. Makini has been nominated for the RBC Women Entrepreneur Awards 2018,2019 & 2020 as well as the Peoples Choice Awards for Best Black Canadian Podcaster.Makini does more than talk the talk; she walks the walk by being an example of leadership serving in the community including her recent run for Member of Provincial Parliament in the 2018 Canadian Election.

Describe Makini in six words? Resilient Woman That Leads By Example You are a mother and career woman. How do you balance your family and your multiple brands? I have a formula that I use to try my best to balance being a mother and a full-time entrepreneur because it's not always possible to have complete balance, but this helps me prioritize. Balance = Faith+Family+Finances+Friends So first, I prioritize what keeps me grounded. My faith in God and my spiritual connection give purpose to all the other F words. I dedicate time to pray, meditate, me time, go to church and bible study (pre covid). Secondly, my children need their mother for bonding, meals, appointments, homework, etc., so I carve out essential time for them. Then I allow clients to book appointments on my online calendar in the work hours left available after my faith and family time commitments to cover my finances. The time that is left is where I schedule time with friends for fun and social time. If I should have to drop something from the balancing act, my friend Vivian Kaye has taught me to let the rubber balls drop by, not the glass. I can allow things to fall when needed, but my faith and family are priorities that I handle with care. What is something about you that readers are unable to find on social media? I share a lot on social media. I'm very transparent about my struggles and wins because I believe it can ( and has) helped many by becoming their guide out of adversity or into their path of greatness. Readers will not find on social media what I call my scabs, open painful wounds that I'm still healing from. I will share my scars, what I have healed from and how. When we publicly share painful experiences while we are not strong enough to deal with public opinions or scrutiny, we can cause more pain and be influenced to react through emotion rather than respond to our situation through inner guidance of intuition and connecting to the higher power of our source. What was your inspiration behind "A Walk in My Stilettos"? When I was working on the title for my first book, the original title idea was "A Walk in My Shoes". I was sharing my personal journey. Being known for my love of stilettos on social media and the real estate industry I was in at the time, I looked at how stilettos made me feel and what they symbolized to me. In stilettos I feel elevated, forced to walk with purpose. I walk by faith in them believing I will not fall. It made sense to make that the book title as even the subtitle i symbolized what I wanted to help the reader with..."How to get through the struggle with grace."The book evolved into other tools to do the same. More books, an app, a podcast and coaching services.

What do you hope readers take away from your journal and book series? My hope for readers is that they get the inspiration, motivation, knowledge and systems to help them developed the mindset to walk in a manner worthy of their calling.

You also have a successful podcast. Can you tell us what listeners can expect when listening in? Listeners of the A Walk in My Stilettos podcast can expect to hear inspiring stories of resilience. I interview women from all walks of life that range from successful television personalities, politicians, music artists and entrepreneurs. What tips do you have for entrepreneurs looking to start a podcast, and how can your program help them? If you have a business or personal brand you should have a podcast to connect and engage with your community. It will also position you as an expert in your industry. My virtual podcast workshop is custom to help you start, launch and market your podcast successfully without having to purchase expensive equipment. I can guarantee this because I'm teaching you everything I know about podcasts that I have done in the 2 plus years I've had my show which is a 5 star rated show on Apple Podcast. Over the past year we have ranked peak positions globally: #2 Jamaica #3 Kenya #5 Nepal #10 Canada #18 South Korea #36 Italy

Working with me, you will leave the private session with: A clear concept and goal for your podcast A plan to start podcasting like a pro The right tools to record, host, launch, market and monetize An easy formula to produce consistent content

You have a NEW line of merchandise available, "Resilient" What does it mean to be resilient? The new merchandise was inspired by the women I interview, coach, and engage with. We are all resilient in our own way. Their feedback and reviews helped me to see that "Resilience is my superpower." The merchandise is to remind us and affirm, whatever piece you choose, that you are "Resilient". Home decor, apparel, and even laptop sleeves affirm "Resilience is my Superpower" or "Resilient". Being resilient means, we are able to get back up after being knocked down, we bend but do not break, we recover from life challenges. Resilience is a muscle we can strengthen by our ability to get through adversity.

Your Current Situation Doesn't Define You. Moving Forward and Starting Over if Needed is Your Breakthrough. Makini Smith

Through working with Jenn, people improve communication, work through conflict, and build self-awareness with the Enneagram. She asks big questions that lead to big dreams and big ideas and big living. Usually, that means laughing. Specializing in interpersonal conflict resolution, leadership, and the Enneagram, Jenn helps others communicate through difficulty so they can do powerful and connected work. The pandemic completely upended Jenn’s business. She had multiple events booked that had to be canceled or moved to a virtual setting. Jenn had to completely change a board leadership program for a major client. Jenn soon started to shift the way she does business and launched individual coaching to support the lack of events and fell in love. Jenn discovered how to engage an audience in her pajamas and picked up emceeing social events for clients who want to engage their employees or audience. Jenn understands it has been a wild year, but her world has expanded without leaving her front door.

Who is Jenn Whitmer in five words? Communicator, Collaborator, Storyteller, Joy-bringer, Loud Laugher What inspired your start in entrepreneurship? I wanted to help others reimagine leadership in conflict resolution and self-awareness. I had a toxic work environment that was the result of a leader who didn’t understand himself or how to handle conflict. I want to help others prevent those types of environments. Your brand is all about helping teams and leaders solve conflict. How do you do that? I am a speaker, writer, and coach. I work with teams and individuals to provide self-awareness through the Enneagram and communication and conflict skills. What have you found to be the biggest issue that causes conflicts inside of teams? Lack of understanding of how much our inner thought life affects communication. We bring such different perspectives to the table and assume others see just like we do.

What is next for you in 2021? I’m excited to help more teams through speaking. I’d love to be in person more, but I’m expanding my virtual offerings as well. I’m still offering individual coaching, but I’m offering a new group coaching program beginning in the new year. What advice do you have for an entrepreneur looking to build a quality team? Find people who are curious about themselves and others. Hire for character and culture first, then competency.

Conflict happens. Life brings challenges. Do you know how to lead through them? Jenn helps you get the skills to thrive. Connect with Jenn online at jennwhitmer.com

How does one go from Professional dancing to entrepreneurship? Dance education has always been a vital part of my life's journey. I spent many years educating, writing, and conducting my own research in the fields of dance integration in Physical Education in school settings across the USA. Making the transition this year and leaving the school district, to become an entrepreneur has opened and connected many doors of opportunity for me in the field of performing arts, especially coaching, consulting, and event planning. I LOVE it! What can people expect when learning about On The Go Talent LLC.? Performing, and helping others has always been something I love to do. "Life's about the journey, not the destination." A place of convenience, inspiration, and knowledge in the many areas of performing arts and education fields all fit into the mission of the company. Clients refer to their coaching sessions as "performing and creative arts therapy." You have developed a passion for music, where do you draw your inspiration from? My inspiration for music is drawn from so many places. I started singing when I started talking. My preschool teacher, a minister, an advocate, encouraged my mom to enroll me in voice lessons at such a young age. My "internal energy" as one of my former dance teachers told my mom and spiritual beliefs help me to create, perform, and express, my musical journey. My parents are huge music lovers. My exposure to music growing up was vibrant and constant. My mother, still to this day, suggests cover songs for me to sing, and I always appreciate mom's touch! I love all genres, including Hip-Hop, which my husband, Joseph, is known for writing and recording Hip-Hop/Rap. Many of my listeners compare my voice to Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Christina Aguilera. Most recently, I have written songs for specific topics of interest and causes, Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day, Suicide Prevention Awareness, mostly uplifting & spiritually healing. What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your music? I pray for my listeners to find inspiration, peace, love, joy, comfort, and healing through my voice. I love sharing my gift, my life story, traumas, and struggles. My music provides a positive outlet to connect and heal others in a spiritual way. I want listeners to use my music in a positive way and share with others! How has the COVID 19 Pandemic shaped the way you do business? I have always wanted to create a performing arts online platform, one where both my client clients could connect with the company anywhere, and any time, hence "On The Go" Talent. Launching the company this year has been a true blessing in that perspective. Everything in God's timing and place.

What message do you have for women starting a business in 2021? My first piece of advice: conduct your own market research. Secondly, secure a business coach/mentor that is a good fit for your purpose and mission prior to starting a business; find YOUR people and connect! Lastly, I know it may sound crazy, but don't be afraid of SUCCESS! Fear will only hinder your progress and what God has in-store for YOUR greatness. Believe in YOURSELF, be confident, be grateful, be blessed, LOVE, and be YOU!

Share 5 words that describe you and your ministry? Truth, Healing, Transformation, Restoring, Encouraging You are known as Kyonna Brown, "The Forgiveness Expert," tell us about that? I am Kyonna F. Brown, "The Forgiveness Expert." My title is an extension of what I had to become to live. In my life, I have made many choices and decisions based on my emotions. I was emotionally unhealthy; therefore, I was incapable of operating in that area of my life. That leads to childhood obesity, drug use, promiscuity, lying to myself, a suicide attempt, and a 4year prison sentence. After my life continuously seemed to push me deeper into the trap of hurt, I realized that I had to change how I let things make me feel. I had to admit that I was the controller of my emotions and my actions. Forgiveness was the catalyst that changed my life and helped me to have a desire to live. What does it mean to forgive? Forgiveness means to have freedom and possession of your life. Once we are capable of letting go, we can no longer be held captive by the past. Forgiveness also leads to self-discovery. Every broken area that is mended brings growth and understanding of who you are. Tell us about forgiveness nation, and how do you join? Forgiveness Nation is a group of individuals who either believe or seek the healing power of forgiveness. You can join through our FaceBook group or on Youtube @ ForgivenessNation. There you will find short teaching, inspiration, short films, and live broadcast to help encourage people to operate in their unique, authentic, superhero power called forgiveness

You have written several books; when did you know you had a gift for writing? I can remember as early as the 8th grade having a passion for writing. In the 9th grade, I joined a creative writing group, and it helped to harness what was already inside me. While in prison, I realized that I was and almost did let that passion die. I wrote as much as the days I was incarcerated. It was my way of escape, and I vowed to share my love with the world. Which of your books challenged you the most? A Pathway to Forgiveness was extremely challenging; I had many ideas for the book. I even had an entirely different title. The process took about nine months to complete. I was just about finished with my first draft seven months in. Something wasn't sitting well with me, and I placed the manuscript to the side. In the 8th month, I was on a call with one of my mentors, which shifted everything: the title and its contents. I scraped the manuscript and started from scratch. I finished writing the book in less than 30 days. Most of that journey was getting to what the Lord wanted me to share and not what I thought I should. What do you hope women gain from your platform? I pray that women can see their true selves. Oh, too often, we are what others see in us and not who we genuinely are. This forgiveness journey is an experience that helped me repossess myself. I pray that they can take back what is theirs. I want women to learn to be more honest with their decision making to better who they are. Our choices affect our household, and in most cases, we are the glue that holds our families together. I want them to heal from past wounds that prohibit them from showing up in their present lives.

What encouraging word do you want women to take with them into 2021? 2020 has been a year of truth. Although many of us have gone through hardships, this year has allowed for the world to have time to reflect. A huge part of forgiveness is reflection. I pray that as we go into 2021 that you have taken the time to dissect what is healthy for you. Health is not just a physical state, but it's also a mental state. Let's make it a mandate that we remove the heavy boulders that are holding us back. That starts with getting to our truths. That can be found in your reflection time. Then you have to decide you are going to change. We are not the creators of our lives, but we are responsible for our destiny. We are moving forward with success in our hearts and minds. And that success doesn't mean that big check, but for us to become emotionally intelligent and rock out as superheroes who control their emotions. 2021 is yours for the taking!

MY WOMAN OF THE YEAR Written By Rosie Basquin

As Kamala Harris graced the stage after being announced the projected Vice President-Elect of 2020, she gave a profound speech in which she reflected on the impact of women. Starting with her mother, she reflected on the many women of color (Black, Asian, Caucasian, Latina, and Native American) who fought for their right to vote and their voices to be heard, paving the way for that very moment. Starting from a century ago with the 19th Amendment and 55 years ago with the Voting Rights Act to now in 2020, our voices have been heard. While Kamala Harris is the first woman vice president, she won’t be the last. What a testament of time! Talk about woman of the year! This was the year that women rose into their power, and I am in awe. Centuries ago, women had no voice and were property to their men, but now we are rising into one of the highest political seats of the nation. Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, you are an inspiration to all women, that we too can rise! Being the first of such a grand title is a trailblazing moment. Joe Biden had the audacity to break one of the most substantial barriers and select a woman as a vice president. A white man appointing a black woman in this day in age is a testimony and sentiment to growth! Being the first African American woman to reach those heights gives all women newfound hope. We are not the labels that people put on us, and we don’t have to fit into these boxes people make for us. As women, we set our own paths and conquer all obstacles in our way because against all odds, we fight to win! I love seeing the black girl excellence and supremacy. I love seeing the newfound hope that this great election has given in the eyes of spectators and naysayers. In the year 2020, there have been many unfortunate challenges, and the struggle of black women seemed to deepen. A win was needed for black women, and that is what Ms. Harris did. So in the years to come, say yes! Yes, to breaking down self-limitations and fears and striving for everything you want to in this lifetime. If Ms. Harris can do it, what’s stopping you? In her closing remarks, Ms. Harris goes on to state these powerful words, speaking to the people of this country, regardless of gender or race: “...Our country has sent you a clear message, to dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in the way others may not, simply because they haven’t seen it before. But know we will applaud you every step of the way.” The climb won’t be easy, but it will be worth it, so keep climbing!

Managing Mental Wellness Alongside Your Natural Hair Journey with Poet:

Brianna Laren

By Chaundra Scott

Many women face mental health struggles on their own. Moreover, African American women are often seen as the backbone to their family foundation which can lead to unforeseen challenges. Various familiar coping strategies such as praying are seen as the only standard of care. With the quarantine, many women have been driven to face their reality behind closed doors and for an unprecedented amount of time. With that reality comes the road to self-discovery. Poetic storyteller, Brianna Laren, has graced us with an artful collection that interweaves the road to self-discovery and various obstacles that many Black women have to overcome. Brianna is spreading her Black Girl Magic one page at a time. Perfect for handling the COVID blues, “Edge Control for the Soul”, is helping women discover their inner growth and grace as they slay through life. Set in the terms of your favorite natural hair verbiage, Her collection is motivating women to continue to push past their struggles to achieve their greatness. This poetic quest steers women through challenges in relation to the natural hair journeys of shrinkage, breakage, protective styles and new growth; just to name a few. “I told this story through poetry because that is where I can be my most vulnerable. As black women, we have been conditioned to hide and mask our vulnerabilities so they can't be used against us. We have to remain strong and impenetrable at all times but that gets really heavy after a while,” says Brianna. Black women are given the opportunity to get to know themselves, intimately love their inner beings and hone in on what makes their hair unique. This journey is parallel to the need for self-discovery too. Selfdiscovery is about appreciating one’s true self, character and potential in your natural artform. What better way to paint that picture than through poetry? My hope is that you will drop the mask, embrace every part of yourself, step into the light and allow the world to see you. But most importantly I hope you grow and thrive,” explains Brianna. Brianna is paving her own lane one artful creation at a time. Join her journey of self-love as she takes you on a natural ride with her poetic page turners. Grab your copy to follow your inner voyage towards being your own peace.

Get Ready to be Whole Again with ‘Wholepreneur Lifestyle’ with Multi- Entrepreneur TerDawn DeBoe

By Patrice RIvers TerDawn DeBoe has had an affinity for music, creativity, and Entrepreneurship all of her life. After finding a passion for graphic design and marketing, she became a full-time entrepreneur starting InnovativEdge Marketing (now known as Creative Thought Solutions) which has provided services for AT&T, The Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Caesar’s Casino, and 100’s of other businesses all across the country. She has grown that business from a one-woman show to a team of six people specializing in finding creative solutions for companies and helping them accelerate their growth. She is considered the go-to expert when it comes to Brand Development, Sales Funnel Development, and Lead Generation using social media advertising. She helps businesses set up automated ways to attract, nurture, and convert their perfect audiences. Turning them from strangers to loyal clients. She and her team focus on one of the biggest struggles of business growth, showing them how to deliver their products and services using processes and systems that allow them to scale and break through their income barriers. In 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic, TerDawn found a way to help Entrepreneurs in an even more meaningful way. She teamed up with a group of Researchers, Developers, and Scientists to formulate an organic supplement line to support the well- being of Entrepreneurs. The company, Wholepreneur Lifestyle, offers supplements with brain support, immune system support, performance enhancement, relaxation support, and total wellness. TerDawn has been featured in several media outlets as a leader in her industry and has also been able to achieve great partnerships with corporations such as Microsoft and with Organizations such as the Young Entrepreneur Institute. She also serves on the board of trustees Student Navigation and Black Professionals Association Charitable Foundation.

Patrice: As a multi-entrepreneur who has created an outlet for Entrepreneurs to grow their business and income, how did the idea come to mind for Creative Thought Solutions? TerDawn: Originally, my company was called InnovativEdge Marketing which was not very creative. I tried to fit into this mold of being like the other Digital Marketing Agencies I saw so that people would take me seriously. That turned out to be the worst thing I could do because I wasn’t true to myself as the artist and creative that I am. I actually discovered that the fact that I am so creative was my genius factor. After this discovery, I took some time to really figure out who I am and what I wanted my company to be known for. Creative Thought Solutions was born from that.

Patrice: I think your business speaks volume and is so important with all the services you offer; it is particularly important. For your clients, which services did they utilize the most? TerDawn: Most people that come to me realize, after our first conversation, that the reason that they are not hitting their revenue goals is because they lack brand positioning. They never took the time to build the foundation that would allow them to actually be trusted by an audience to convert them to customers or clients. The brand development we offer is unlike most agencies because we brand them with marketing in mind. We focus on clarity, their messaging, their story, their creative genius factor ™ , their visual aesthetics, and their signature system. Patrice: Tell us a little bit more about the Sales Funnel service you offer. What does that mean? TerDawn: Phase 2 in our services is sales funnel development. A sales funnel is simply just a series of messages that leads people from being interested in a solution to their problem, to considering what the best option is to solve that problem, and then making a decision on the best person or company that will get them to the transformation they desire. With our services, we help businesses determine their irresistible offer, build the sales page that helps their audience understand the value of their offer, and automate the email communication that will help convert the people who are interested into buying customers. With a funnel, you can make money 24/7 without having to physically be present to fulfill the order. This is a great stream of revenue for businesses that don’t want to put all of their eggs in one basket. Patrice: What are some of the other services your business offers? TerDawn: Aside from the brand development and funnel development, we also offer social media ad campaigns to drive traffic to the offer because the only way to scale and make real money in your business is to convert a percentage of your traffic to sales. Patrice: There are a lot of business tips out there for new business owners and seasoned business owners. What are the top three business tips that you think are important in business? TerDawn: My top 3 business tips would be: 1. Be Authentic. As I stated previously, I wasn’t authentic when I started my business because I wanted to be taken seriously, but in the end, that caused me to blend in with every other marketer that was doing the same. People want to know who you are before they like you and trust you to invest in you. Be transparent with your story. Share the behind the scenes of how you do things. Show your personality. Those are all ways for people to make the connection with you so that they can become loyal customers. 2. Know Your Strengths. Hire Your Weaknesses. A lot of business owners get burned out trying to do all of the things that they feel they need to do in order to grow their business. By the time they need to deliver in their genius zone, they are too tired to put 100% of their energy into it. The best thing you can do is hire people who are strong where you are weak so that you can scale your business properly while staying in your zone of genius. 3. Be Clear On What You Want to Be Known for. In order for people to know, like, and trust your positioning in the marketplace, you have to have a clear message on who you serve, the biggest transformation you provide, and the results you’ve gotten. This will help solidify your brand position in your potential client’s mind.

Patrice: How long did it take you to grow your business? TerDawn: I spent the first 4 years trying to figure out what the heck I was doing and getting clear on my brand positioning and what I want to be known for. Once that was established and I started getting results for the people that worked with me, it became effortless to charge more, get paid what I asked and stay booked with clients. Patrice: Let’s get into your health line Wholepreneur Lifestyle. Can you tell us a little bit more about your health line and the inspiration behind it? TerDawn: As an Entrepreneur that is building my business, I found that I created bad habits such as skipping meals, forgetting things, grabbing the wrong things to fuel my body, and not having enough energy throughout the day. I realized that I needed assistance in order to keep my body performing at its best and maximum capacity. I worked with a team of researchers and developers to formulate the things I know Entrepreneurs need to build their health while they build their wealth because they go hand in hand. Patrice: Why did you think it is important for others to know about Wholepreneur Lifestyle? TerDawn: I believe that it is important that you can trust the company that you are getting supplements from. This is your body and a lot of companies don’t operate in integrity with the list of ingredients. We make sure that our ingredients are actually certified organic and our products use the top ingredients to ensure that you are only putting quality into your body. Patrice: How important do you think mental and physical health is for entrepreneurs? TerDawn: It’s the most important thing you can do for your business because if you don’t take care of yourself, you’re not able to take care of your clients and customers properly. Iyanla Vanzant is famous for saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup”. I firmly believe that because you have to be healthy to healthily build relationship with yourself, your family, and your customers/clients. Patrice: You mentioned that Wholepreneur Lifestyle helps with productivity, mental clarity and wellbeing. How is that different to other health supplements that’s already made for things of that nature? TerDawn: It’s different because our products have twice the potency of leading brands. We make sure it’s quality and we also make sure that it is truly beneficial for Entrepreneurs which no other product line can say. Patrice: What can customers expect from Wholepreneur Lifestyle? TerDawn: Excellent quality, customer service, and results. Patrice: How important do you think mental health in entrepreneurs is? TerDawn: Entrepreneurship is not for the weak. It takes a lot of confidence, courage, and consistency. There are so many ups and downs and the downs can really affect you mentally. It can make you think that you aren't enough, that you aren’t doing enough, and that you will never have enough. I’ve seen Entrepreneurs go through depression because of this. I’m an advocate for therapy, spiritual, and selfcare practices to keep things in alignment so that you can have the tools to work through those triggers. Empowerment is a LIFESTYLE! By: Latrina Caldwell

I sincerely pray all is well. I can’t say enough that this has been one of the most unpredictable years in history. Let’s give all the glory to the Most High for keeping us in His loving arms. As this year winds down, now is the time to review your mindsets and renew your goals. Renew your plan of action as the new year approaches. Get started now! Remember, time doesn’t wait for anyone.

The first part of this year led us to “stay empowered during quarantine time” and adjust to this new way of living. This has been a process for all of us. However, you need to awaken your awareness of yourself. Take this time to work on your passions and or hobbies. You can even develop new passions and hobbies to develop your brand and or career. Continue to motivate and educate yourself by “staying ahead of the game.” Be beyond average. This will require you to step outside of your box. You have to be ok with being different. There comes the point in life where we need to be ok with asking for help. Help is available; we don’t have to do it alone. The Heavenly Father sent us tools to use as we proceed through this journey of self-discovery. Understand what works for me might not work for you. However, we can share tools and ideas. Listen, it isn’t easy to live in empowerment. It requires you to fight within yourself and change your mindset. Please don’t get it twisted. This will take extreme diligence on your part. You will have to put the work in. You have to push past the normal. When you become serious about your lifestyle, goals, etc., your views change. That’s why the renewal of mindset is so important. There are two types of mindsets: fixed and growth. A fixed mindset is that of a person who is set in their ways. These people typically don’t allow new thoughts to enter. A growth mindset is a mindset that is continuously elevating and willing to adapt to growth. When empowerment is your lifestyle, excuses go out the window. Empowerment has to be implemented in everything you do. It’s a way of living; it will be a part of your language. When you focus on your empowered lifestyle, you automatically develop “the art of owning your role.” This is where your confidence has an opportunity to be advanced and blossom. Empowerment can become your lifestyle if you adapt it. Self-love is the best love, and self-care leads to internal self-love. Think of life as an art. It is a painted picture of your joy, pain, love, and success. You are the artist in your life. You can add, change, or merge many colors to create your unique design. Work on yourself. Make empowerment your lifestyle.

Remember that once we are aware of who we are, we can change and enhance our lives. Take your power back by involving empowerment in everything that you do. Speak life over yourself. Speak love into yourself. Continue to be persistent; continue to push past your barriers. You get out what you put in. You have the power to create and live an empowered lifestyle. Whether you know it or not, someone is always watching you. Someone is looking up to you, whether it be your daughter, family member, or community member. Put your best foot forward and own your lifestyle. Own who you are. Choose 3-5 main components as an easy guide to keep you level. My main components of a healthy, empowered lifestyle are:

• Self-care • Time Management • Balance • Family Time • Faith Connection Create your own list. Think of 3-5 key values that can help you stay on track. There is no way around the fact that we have to do the work within ourselves so that we can prosper. You are not alone. You have your Pretty Women Hustle family here for support and empowerment. Each one, reach one. Each one, teach one. Ladies, I motivate you to stay empowered during this personal journal you are on. Take the necessary steps to be a better version of yourself. No one is going to do the work for you. This is very personal, so personalize and prioritize your steps. You own your power. It is inside of you. The more you love yourself, the more empowered you can become. Tap into yourself. Listen to yourself. Validate yourself. Make “empowerment your lifestyle.” As the year ends, remember the key essential “Trina Tips.” These are basic tips that will help you along this journey with yourself. Trina Tips: Do a social media check out once a week. Take a mental break for your own peace and sanity. Remember, you become your thoughts. Try to do a mind sweep. Apply daily self-care in your everyday life. Spend some time alone. Sit in full peace. There are simple things around the house you can do, such as take a bubble bath, light a candle, or play some relaxing music. Find an inexpensive hobby. Think of things you that you have wanted to do that you put on hold. Let’s make good use of our time at home. For example, start a garden or paint your room. Exercise! Make good use of the space you are in. For example, walk up and down the stairs for ten minutes. Do some jumping jacks or watch a YouTube workout video. Journal this experience. Write your goals down. Create a plan for the next 3, 6, and 9 months. Set an alarm or a reminder for these small activities.
