Whether you are in the business of getting to your empowerment presently, in the future or helping someone else. YOU ARE IN LUCK! There are 7 Steps To An Empowered Life! 1. Be Completely Honest with Yourself You know you better than anyone else. Until you can face the real you and identify what you need to change, you can't be completely honest. Sis sometimes it's you! 2. Accept Responsibility for YOUR Actions Accepting responsibility is hard. Especially when you haven't mastered Step 1. By doing this you earn trust points and grow as a person. This is also known as adulting, Sis! 3. Mind Your Own Business Self explanatory for most of us; however some of us need this reminder. We have enough going on in our own lives that should cover our own business. 4. Accept Yourself! Flaws and all. You are amazing just the way you are Sis! 5. Live In The Moment Enjoy your now! When you focus on the present you're more productive. 6. Have No Expectations Never expect YOU from someone else. The heart you present is yours and you have to protect your peace by not having any expectations of others.

The Balancing Act of Motherhood and Business BY
CHAUNDRA
SCOTT
It’s estimated that 1 in 3 businesses are owned by a mom. Yay mompreneurs! But we know that this task comes at no small gesture. Many see the glitz and glam but don’t understand the late nights, crying sessions, double booked appointments and more that are behind the scenes. Feelings of guilt can also be added to the hectic list of overwhelming mompreneur life. I get it. We’re not wonder women yet we want to be superb at everything. This can lead to burnout. This can lead to an unhealthy family dynamic. This can lead to poor mental wellness. We buy the cute planners and glitter out our vision boards but have trouble getting through the day to day balancing act. 71% of Mompreneurs are also their primary childcare provider.
But How? It’s time that we work smarter and not harder. Yes, you can have that amazing business and have your family at the same time. Here are some tips that can assist in your balancing act. Get organized. Actually use that planner that you bought or that app that was downloaded. Organization is the key to keeping a leveled business while running your home. Sticky notes are a blessing too. Avoid being double booked and missing out on gigs by organizing your daily schedule better. Make use of ALL of your time. This means that you may have to wake up earlier than your kids in order to get an hour or two of tasks knocked out. If you aren’t an early bird, then stay up one hour after you’ve put the kids to bed. If you're on the go with family; sit in the car and complete some minor business tasks during those dance or karate practices. Every moment counts and can literally make or break you. Receive help. Use your “village” of supporters. Whether it be your child’s Godmommy who keeps asking to babysit or your business savvy friend who can be your part-time assistant; get the help. Virtual assistants are a big trend and many are available to support. You cannot peacefully do it all on your own. Educate yourself. Tune into those live IG stories. Sign up for that webinar. Make it your business to grow your business by expanding your knowledge base. You may not be able to juggle a full-time business coach or consultant but other opportunities are available. Network. There are several mom and business tribes out there. They are helpful in serving the purpose of creating a safe space, valuable content and lasting relationships. The Pretty Women Hustle Network has a new V.I.P. membership group that serves to offer business tips, accountability, exclusive events, networking, action steps for success and so much more. Tap into your available resources. It’s the meal time for me. So now, we have some key points in maintaining your business. Now let’s turn to your family. Your never-ending business. One way to balance it all is to give your family your undivided attention. This can be perfectly done during any meal. Eat as a family while using that time to socialize and openly communicate. Kids will appreciate that and your heart will smile. Include your family in your business. Include your little ones in your business as brand ambassadors, tech support or etc. Have your tech savvy teen help you with your social media pages for your business. Do that family dance on Tik Tok. Include your little ones in your YouTube show or Facebook Live talks. Every family member can play a part in a cool and fun way. Enjoy your self-care. It’s important. It’s like that medicine that you can’t forget to take in order to feel well. Make the necessary time. Even if it’s 30 minutes or 1 hour, you make that time to do something for yourself that aids as your safe place. Self-care is needed to preserve your mental and physical wellness; and can’t be neglected. So don’t feel overwhelmed because you are not alone. Balancing motherhood and business is a treasured art that you can master. Use this balancing act as the framework for your masterpiece called life. Press forward by setting goals and clear expectations for what you hope to gain in both business and motherhood. You will master your craft. Writer, C. She has been featured on such prominent media outlets such as: ABC, NBC, CBC, FOX News, Detroit News, Women Essence Magazine, Detroit CEO Magazine, the Michigan Chronicle, the Michigan Citizen, Crains Detroit, 9 & 10 News.
Be Bold Be Beautiful Be That Girl
Describe what you do in 5 words. Make Business Dreams A Reality Who are your influences? My biggest influencer is Jehovah God, he motivates me to do all things. Next, it would be people who walk in their purpose regardless of age or ethnic group.
#THATGIRL
How did you get your start with helping businesses create a beautiful online presence? In 2008 MYDCT began offering website design services, which was the start of the website boom and online presence era for many small businesses. Before this era most companies that used websites were huge corporations and small businesses were operating onsite for the most part. I believe the website boom era is also comparable to the conforming to the consequences of Covid19. Many small businesses are forced to make the pivot from offline to offering virtual services. In 2007, we would use HTML Code, Business Class, and Vista print initially to design websites until I discovered the Wix platform. Using Wix led me to become the Detroit Wix Ambassador and eventually becoming a Wix Partner. Wix equipped me with tools and resources to offer my clients a stunning online presence. It has become our most sought out service. In fact, LinkedIn rated me as the Best Website and Graphic Designer for 3 years consecutively. How did you come up with the brand Being That Girl? My late mother Delorse Starks was affectionately known for being that girl. She was also known for being bold, wearing red bold lips and her favorite fashion combinations were black and white. Hence, I designed the That Girl logo in honor of her. The brand also captivates her natural aura to celebrate and support others. My mother was known for her blunt honesty. In fact, many say that I embody my mother’s same personality. Through this brand I am able to create a legacy in recognition of my appreciation for my mother, build leaders, collaborate with entrepreneurs, develop genuine sisterhoods and sell dope fashion! How did you know that you wanted to get into the fashion industry? I am fortunate to be a part of a bloodline of women who LOVE fashion. Recalling my weekends as a child, we would have family gatherings every weekend. It was always like a fashion show, everyone dressed to impress. I believe that’s why I was naturally drawn to the fashion industry. I’m excited for the mark that I intend to make. Who were your inspirations while getting into the industry? Influencers, Professional, Spiritual, Bossy, Talented, Intelligent Ambitious Women whoever they may be. I thought it was important to create a brand that could celebrate the type of women who raised me, women who overcome challenges, who make big differences in the world, who often go unnoticed and inspire our fashion. For instance, some of our t-shirt expressions that read: That Girl is a Teacher, That Girl is a Nurse, That Girl has her Masters, That Girl has her Doctorate, That girl is a Boss, That Girl is a Hidden Figure, That Girl Kicked Cancer, That Girl is an Author, That Girl is The Female CEO, That Girl is from Detroit etc. What lesson have you learned in your career, that you try to share with others? Never Give Up! There are no straight lines in the business, don't become discouraged when things are not expected as plan. It's ok! What does self-care look like for you currently? Self-Care looks like dating, Netflix and Chilling, Sauna Visits, Sleeping past 5:30 am, taking advantage of a 4-hour work week once per month and traveling. What message do you hope your audience gains from your brand? I know it sounds cliché but "DREAMS DO COME TRUE" you just have to work for it and find a community that will support your endeavors. Be sure to subscribe to both communities at www.mydct.net and www.iam-thatgirl.com to stay in the loop with updates, resources and services.

The building infrastructure Walls, Pews, stainless glass windows Believers, fellowship, and praise Sermons about Jesus the Messiah Yes to be in the Lords house is a great way Service is over The final benediction Mix and Mingle Then a grand finale to the car Keys in ignition time to drive off Jesus gives intuition a few red lights down The Holy Spirit vision begins to unfold You turn around in disbelief Puzzled at what is to be seen Tears trickle down the face in dismay A light bulb clicks on in the head The community around you has failed Because you are holier than though now Forgot about the community of prayer They lost hope because you once cared You pull your car to the side To the man you see nearby Who you once knew But became too sanctified to listen to him Because he preached the gospel with a wine bottle and a tune To the lady you see up yonder Who is a hooker You rode pass her every day while going to work
Looked at her in disgust The lady was a prophet you can trust Some boys walks pass the car Yup they sell dope You used it a few time or two, remember But now that you have been saved You forgot about them and do not seem to be fazed For you see the church Is not just the infrastructure for believers But Jesus has opened your eyes and let you see He needs you out and about in the community This is what he did and wants all to do for free Not to just go to church on Sunday But comfort souls With the fruits of the spirit A lot love, kindness, patience, the list goes on In the Community A Jesus movement Don’t just go to church, be the church

Santia Deck
Woman of God|Entrepreneur|Creative Born in Greenville, South Carolina, and raised in Houston. Football has always been the heart of Deck’s life. Watching her siblings play sports, deck went on and followed suit which led her to Texas A&M Kingsville on a track scholarship and became a certified fitness instructor. Deck is taking the world by storm with her team The Los Angeles Fames in the WFLA. With her impressive football skills and detailed workout routines Deck has built a massive social media following as “The Queen of Abs.” Deck is now the first female athlete to own her own shoe company “Tronus”.
@Trackbaby001
Who is Santia in six words? Ambitious woman of God who’s a unicorn.
What is something most people do not know about you? Most people do not know that I wrote a book when I was 14 years old. It is titled “The Struggle” and it is about child abuse. I personally did not go through abuse, but I had friends that did, so I dedicated the book to them and added my own twist. You are a fitness Guru, what does Self-care look like for you? Self- care is keeping yourself fit by getting some type of activity in everyday but also making sure you’re putting healthy foods inside your body as well. Self-care is also taking care of yourself mentally as well and making sure your mental health is on point. What was the moment like when you realized that you are the highest-paid player for the WFLA? It was very surreal and honestly still is. I had just got through a depression after learning that I wasn’t going to make the USA rugby team. So, when I got that call it made everything make sense, all the tears and hurt that I had been through was worth it in the end. What advice do you have for young girls wanting to follow their dreams as an athlete? Go for it! Make sure you are not only training physically but mentally as well. Become a student of the game! Also, get a trainer who has experience training high level athletes. You are more than a female Athlete; you are an entrepreneur: Share with us about your new shoe company? TRONUS was a two-year process. It started off as just an opportunity to create a signature line under another brand, but we quickly realized it could be much bigger than that once we released the prototype on social media. TRONUS is a unisex, athleisure shoe and it can be worn in the gym and out with your friends as a fashion statement as well. People always say I am a girl who can “do both “, meaning, I’m an athlete but I can also switch it up and throw on heels and a dress and do the girly thing. So, I wanted my shoes to reflect that.
Photographed By Jeffrey Mustache
You have been successful with growing your brand organically, what tips do you have for entrepreneurs trying to grow via social media? Be consistent! You cannot post one week and then disappear from social media and expect your following to grow. Also, standout! Be different! Bring something new and exciting to the social media world.
Photographed By Jeffrey Mustache
What is next for you? I have SOOO much in store for you all, you just have to stay tuned! I wish I could talk about it all, but you all will love what is coming next!
What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustle's? A woman who knows who she is and isn’t afraid to break the mold of what a “ Pretty woman who handles her business “ is supposed to look like.

UNMASKING TRAUMA THROUGH FAITH AND HEALING WITH RENEE MYERS The CDC reports that more than 60% of adults have experienced a traumatic event in their childhood. Renee Myers’ childhood fell within that 60% window. She experience a childhood fueled with emotional pain, physical abuse, poverty and sexual abuse. Such past hurts could have paved a negative path for Renee but she persisted. Her determination to overcome her experiences led her to writing as she healed her heart. Renee was able to overcome struggles through consistent counseling services and her faith in God. Her childhood family friend opened the door to her faith walk by giving her a simple invitation to church. From there she began to experience the love of Christ which led to major accomplishments in her life. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She was also the first in her family to turn to the Christian faith. From there, Renee Myers, decided to begin writing her memoir. Her writing was needed to aid in her healing. Although she lived through the experiences, writing it down served as a form of therapy for her. This healing effort birthed her newly released book entitled: A Void Only YOU Can Heal. Her memoir tells of her life experiences through her eyes. Each chapter includes reflection questions for introspection and shares personal photos from that moment in time. Encouraging song lyrics and a poem also encompass her debut book title. Renee didn’t stop there either. She also includes local Baltimore and National therapeutic resources for your healing needs. “I am praying that my writing will help or inspire someone in my community to know it's not how you start but how you finish,” says Renee. Her healing is ongoing and many sources have shared in her positive path. “I want people to know that you can get healing from many sources but there are some voids that ONLY you can heal,” expresses Renee of her journey. Her transformation from trauma to healing has been ever so evident in life as if she experienced the metamorphosis of a butterfly. Renee is spreading her wings to fly. She is soaring new heights and achieving success. Community outreach is also vital to her positive outlook. She worked with various youth groups in and outside of her local church setting. Renee also serves to empower other women in their journey. At times the lives of Black Women often lack protection. “This book will help the black woman understand that our minds matter. Our lives matter, our healing matters and it's ok to be: a mother, a sister, a colleague, a wife, a friend and etc while still checking in on others,” states Renee. Renee is hoping to inform Black women everywhere that self-care is also understanding that it’s ok to take care of yourself at times. Women can’t continue to put the care of others before themselves. She continues to be a work in progress yet no way close to where she came from. To connect with Renee Myers please visit www.avoychbookstore.org. Books may be purchased in e-book & paperback form from Amazon and Ingram Sparks in October 2020. Follow her on social media as @avoychbookpage, @ReneeMyers and @blessedhandsbyrenee.

Woman Superhereos! By Lyrical Passion
We are never weak That’s what people may say For prayers to be answered unto God we will seek Trust me! We always bounce back and will continue to be okay! The number of pain and tribulations has gotten the best of us time after time We still force a smile upon our faces to keep people from asking Still standing we are pushing forward, we good, we fine! A break from the real world called reality, all we gotta do is take our time Men stop thinking you can treat us any ole kinda way with your slick talk and good looks Remember we are God’s gems and should be always treated like a Queen You may have all the good looks and know what to say, but that doesn’t mean you are off the hook! Weak you may think we are and sometimes it may seem, what we really want is a real man, a real King! Superheroes until the day we die! Taking crap and dealing with the world’s dilemma of being a woman! We were born to create, to designate, to regulate and to rule the world! We got this! Stronger than ever and becoming a shoulder to lean on when other women are in need, a superwoman! Can’t keep a good woman down and that’s some real sh*t! Calling us sensitive and a bucket of water is just your stereotype and opinions We take a lot of mess from unnecessary things that doesn’t make sense and deal with various of personalities One day we will come out of the storm and the war within ourselves will be over and ending We are bad to the bone and no matter how much you burn us, torture us, manipulate us, beat us, talk about us, hurt us, we still end up stronger than ever and that is pure reality!

Making Peace after Pregnacy Loss By Chrissy Drew
Is it possible to love someone you never had the opportunity to meet? Can you grieve the death of someone who did not get to make an entrance into the world? Here is my story about losing a very special piece of myself. After spending nearly a decade struggling to repair and rebuild a toxic relationship with my first husband, I decided to cut my losses and walk away with nothing - other than my two young daughters and the tiny shred of dignity I had remaining. Honestly, I thought I would be alone for a very long time, but in 2016, I met the love of my life. My oldest daughter was 10 and my youngest was 3. He was a single father of an 8-year-old girl, so in addition to meeting him, I gained a bonus daughter. Our schedules aligned so we were able to spend every single day together after work and the girls were able to form an extremely tight bond and things were close to perfect. In July of 2018, we got married, moved in together and started building our lives. We were able to invest loads of time and attention into each of our children individually and help them grow their talents. Each summer we would pick a vacation spot and spend the week relaxing in the beautiful warm weather. In my eyes, things were great, but when I looked at my husband, I could tell something was missing. One day while we were sitting on the patio at our favorite restaurant, I noticed his staring intently at a family with a daughter and a young son. Reluctantly, I asked what he was thinking about, but I was not prepared for his answer. He hesitated for a moment and then slowly spoke. He wanted a baby! Unfortunately, one of the ways I planned my escape from my first marriage was convincing my doctor to secretly perform a tubal ligation immediately after my c section while giving birth to my youngest daughter. At the time of my decision, I had made up my mind that I did not want more children because I felt trapped and did not want to be stuck in a volatile relationship. I never thought I would find love again, so I gave away the best years of my life. For the first time in my existence, I felt completely helpless and even worthless. Even though he and I had discussed this at the beginning of our relationship, there was no denying that he was longing for that missing piece. I spent the rest of the evening fighting back tears. On the ride home, I sat tilted sideways in my seat, with my phone screen out of his view, scrolling through adoption agencies and surrogacy websites. While I frantically searched, I found an ad for IVF (in vitro fertilization). “Make your dreams of becoming a mother a Dream Come True” , it read. Excitedly, I bookmarked the page and tucked my phone back into my purse. Before I even mentioned it, I wanted to be sure that I was a good candidate. The next morning, I called my OBGYN and scheduled an appointment with her to discuss my options. Surprisingly, she gave me her blessing and wished me well. I hadn’t even made it to the elevator before I called to schedule a consultation. Brimming with excitement, I rushed home to share the news with my husband.
After meeting with the fertility specialist, we were extremely discouraged because of the price. Just as we pulled into the driveway my phone rang from an unfamiliar number. To my surprise our insurance covered most of the procedures, so we started the process right away. We were so excited that I didn’t even do any further research. I ordered all of the medications, bought some good luck charms and said a prayer. Deep in my heart I just knew I would finally be able to fulfill my husband's deepest desire and give him a son. I thought I was ready, but the process was brutal. Each day I had to take 3 capsules and 4 injections into the bottom of my stomach. The side effects were extremely taxing, and I spent most of the first 30 days in bed too tired to move. Night after night I read about women’s experiences with IVF. I wrote down almost everything that was said to help yield favorable results and did them all. Secretly, I spent hundreds of dollars trying to make sure that we had a successful pregnancy. I was miserable! I could not believe I had convinced myself that this was what I wanted - just because it was what he wanted. I didn’t know what to do.
After a few months of highs and lows, it was time to move to the final phase : The Transfer The week before I went out and purchased a new outfit, warm socks and a special water bottle especially for the transfer. We arrived at the facility early and took our seats and before we knew it, they were calling us to the back. My legs felt like they were tied to cement boulders as I inched closer to the operating room. The doctor showed us our embryo and had us watch the screen as they performed a miracle. We were amazed and overwhelmed but understood that we would have to wait quite some time to celebrate. Since they had successfully implanted an embryo, I was considered pregnant, but I had to wait until my next visit to confirm. This waiting game was referred to as PUPO (pregnant until proven otherwise). My follow up was scheduled for 14 days following my transfer. The doctor advised me not to read anything online and not to take any home pregnancy tests. I broke the rules the moment I made it to my vehicle, scouring the web for early pregnancy symptoms and the best home pregnancy tests on the market. I purchased over 30 tests and some days would test as many as 3 times, but every single test came back negative. Foolishly, I convinced myself that it was too early and some days I fought myself on whether I could call the doctor to get tested in the office. Saying I drove myself over the edge would be an understatement. Finally, the wait was over. I got up early and sat in the parking lot until the office opened and rushed inside as soon as the clock struck 8. I sat nervously in the waiting room and when I could no longer take the pressure I went to the front desk, desperate for answers. After finishing my visit, they assured me they would call the following day. An hour later, my phone rang. It was the doctor’s office. My hands began trembling as I reached for the phone. Positive thoughts, think positive, I said to myself. Sadly, I was no longer. I ended the call without saying a word. I was absolutely devastated! How could I tell my husband that I had failed? I felt helpless and embarrassed. That day, I lay in bed crying for hours. When my husband walked in - he automatically knew. He gave me the textbook response, but I knew he was heartbroken as well. He dried my tears and told me things would be ok and that we could always try again. But that’s not what I wanted. I did not want to face failure again. My mind and body needed rest, so I slept off and on for the following two weeks. I hated myself. I could not give my husband the one thing he wanted. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and I sunk into a deep depression. I decided to purchase a journal and leave all my sadness on those pages. I made myself the promise that once that journal was filled with all my sadness I would move forward. And I did just that. My husband and I agreed that neither of us wanted to relive that tragedy, so we put all of our energy back into our girls and moved forward. But I always wonder what my son would have been like. I still miss him, even though I never met him. I still love him - even though I was never able to hold him. I carried him in my body, and he was our son, Caynen. For anyone struggling with infertility, I sympathize. For all the mothers that have lost an angel they never got to meet, you are not alone. I encourage you to do what is best for YOU and your family. If you have ever experienced the loss of a child or have an experience to share, check out Pretty Women Hustle. WOMEN BREAKING BARRIERS APRIL DAWN BERNARDO
DAWN DESIGNS Lupa City, Batangas, Philippines April Dawn Bernardo is a Filipina registered nurse turned entrepreneur fueled by passion in design and content creation. From being a writer, earning roughly $15 for 15 articles a day back in 2012, she was able to build her own consultancy business and has been helping her fellow entrepreneurs establish their brands, in the most creative and unique way possible. She always believed that her creations will travel the world so she made it happen. At what moment did you realize entrepreneurship was for you? I realized Entrepreneurship was for me when despite working long hours for clients, I still feel happy and fulfilled as if there is no room for exhaustion. I was always eager to wake up every morning, crush my client meetings and serve these businesses around the globe. The drive to grow my business keeps on burning and it seems that the opportunities for me are endless. From that moment on, I told myself, this is really my path. AWhat is the story behind your brand? I started as an article writer online, but I do have a huge heart for design. 10 years ago, I would take on any project I could. I would do articles, create designs for business cards, newsletters, and the like. I do not know how to do a website, but I just said yes to one client, learned how to do it, and voila! I am now making websites on my own. It then dawned on me to create a service that would provide everything that a business will need in one go- a one stop shops for businesses, big and small. I then improved my writing skills, widened my design horizon, fine-tuned my web design skills, and even learned the field of social media! It took me years but right now, I can say that all the hard work was truly worth it!
What has been the most challenging part of entrepreneurship? The challenging part of entrepreneurship is its unpredictability. There are months when I can take on as much as 20 projects and there are slow months when I only have around 5. This is what keeps me going as well. The opportunities are endless. The only limit that you have for your business only comes from you. If you decide to stop, then it is done. If you decide to say yes, you can conquer as much as you like! WIf you could change any part of your journey what would it be? Nothing. I have had tough times. I have been scammed by some clients who didn't pay me what's due. However, I believe that if it were not for these failures, I would not be the strong entrepreneur that I am today. Entrepreneurship requires patience and truly a lot of persistence. All my experience contributed to that winning foundation that I have built, and I will never take away any of those just for convenience. I always say that I would rather go through the struggling process and win the battle than go the easy way out.
You started off making $15 for 15 articles a day, what is your secret to consistency and longevity? My secret is determination and inspiration. I am really determined to make my dreams happen. Money does not dictate what I can or cannot do and just because I'm paid that low for a start doesn't mean that I can't get paid $1500 for it in the future. I always aim for growth and I always push myself to become my best version. Seeing my dreams waiting for me at the end of the dark tunnel of low rates makes it a whole lot of worth it! Inspiration adds up to the push! I am always inspired by my husband, my family, and my friends, and being able to give them the best lives possible gives me the winning mindset.

Luddy Figueroa CEO Of Day29Designs
"Luddy Figueroa is a branding graphic designer that prides herself in keeping her work focused on helping creative female-identifying entrepreneurs. With her work, she has been able to help many women rediscover who they truly are and how their businesses impact those they serve while giving them a way to authentically express that aesthetically in the online space. Within her business, Day29 Designs, Luddy also creates a well-rounded experience for entrepreneurs by offering branding photography and branded physical items. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island in early 2012, freshly a new mom, with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and worked in social services for 3 years before recognizing the call for doing something bigger, better, and that would engage her creative side. Since then, she has become an advocate to her special needs child with autism, overcome depression and anxiety, and dealt with the struggles of creating a lucrative and impactful online business that would allow her to stay home with her children, all the while continuously fighting for her spot in an industry that doesn't give much space to women, or women of color, specifically. She has powered through many hardships to create a business that she not only loves but is quickly becoming her transportation to creating an amazing life for her and her family. Some of her favorite things include singing (badly), dancing, reading, and taking walks at the park with her family. Luddy resides in northern Rhode Island with her husband and two children." What inspired your start in entrepreneurship? Like many other moms out there, my first inspiration to have my own business was my children. They're only 19 months apart, so I had two babies, which meant missing double the love, double the smiles, and double the milestones. Working a 40 hr work week in a men's prison, then driving an hour each way to and from work, and adding in the ridiculous traffic, I was away from my kids at the least 55 hours a week. Even though I loved my job, I was allowing someone else to raise my kids. I hated that. A year into my job, my youngest son was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism, ADHD and Chiari malformation and I was missing so many days of work carting him from doctors to specialists, and procedures. I knew I had to dedicate more time to him, but I also knew I still needed to have some kind of income! I saw starting my own business as the only way to go. What do you hope women gain from working with Day29 Designs? Overall, I want the women who work with me to gain confidence. And I know that sounds weird because how can a graphic bring you confidence? Well, I help them co-create brands that feel authentic. That look good. That feel good. And that gives them the confidence to go harder, to show up like the amazing women they truly are, and to attract their dream clients that will push them to succeed in their business. What advice do you have for upcoming designers who may feel discouraged in the startup process? KEEP GOING! Having your own business is incredibly rewarding but it is not easy. And anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. There are so many entrepreneurs out there that are only showing the highlights of their business and their life. What you're seeing isn't real, it is a reel. As in a reel of what they want to show you. How they want to be perceived. So my advice is to not compare yourself with others, continue to practice your trade, learn learn learn as much as you can about what can help you in business. But the most important is to never give up. Business isn't a get rich quick scheme. Success likely won't happen overnight. Or even the first couple of months. You need to keep pushing. Push past your failures. Fail forward. See failures as a stepping stone to the next idea. Always keep your goal steady in mind, but be open and flexible about how you will reach that goal. What has been your greatest lesson thus far? I would have to say surround yourself with people who understand what you're going through, can sympathize (or empathize) with your struggles. These people need to be supportive, people you can lean on during the bad times, and celebrate through the good. Find people that are joyful for your success and won't belittle your ambitions. As a new entrepreneur, people who belittle your goals, play down your awesomeness, emanate negative energy, or are just plain haters can really throw you off or even be the deciding factor for you giving it all up completely. Don't give these people your attention. You are amazing. You are great at what you do. Keep your head held high and don't let anyone try to tell you any different!

CREATING LONG MONEY WHILE CHANGING LIVES.
Jamecia Hall The Nutrition Experience Goldsboro, NC
Jessica Kemp Jessica Kemp is an up and coming children's author with her first book set to release November 2020. She was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario before moving to Toronto in 2012. A graduate of the Child and Youth Care program at Ryerson University, she worked many years in child care before pursuing her dream of becoming a writer. Most recently, she created her brand "The Jessi K Adventures" in which she discusses her upcoming book, as well as her life as mom and wife. Every children's book that Jessica releases will have a portion of the profits going towards a charity/organization. What inspired your start in writing? I have always loved books. I had a huge collection of books growing up and I would keep them in pretty good condition. In fact, I still have some books from my childhood that I have kept aside for my daughter. Growing up I would take every opportunity I could to write, but I never kept any of it, because I didn’t think anything I wrote was good enough. Back when I was in highschool I knew the odds of me becoming an author were very slim so I picked a profession, where at the very least, I could help people. I worked for years in the child care field and in 2019 when I had my daughter I realized that I wanted to be a role model for her. I wanted to show her that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. What in your opinion are the most important elements of good writing? Finding out where the gap is. Who isn’t being seen? Who isn’t being heard? If you don’t know ask around; do research and ask questions. When we talk to people we learn amazing things. There is so much of this world that we don’t know about. Also, I would say to write openly and honestly. Don’t pretend like you know something. If you don’t know or understand a topic, say that. Write about not knowing something and your path to finding out more. Personally, aside from those two points, I also love writing with an imagination which is why my dream is to become a well-known children’s author. You just recently released a new book, that’s a collaboration with other women what was that experience like? Yes I did ! “ We All Belong” published by Grace and Hope Consulting. I have to admit it was a lot less stressful then having to do everything myself. I was already deep into my adventures of publishing my solo book when I found out about this collaboration, so I really got to compare experiences. I got to meet some very wonderful and talented women who helped me along the way. I was also able to learn valuable lessons that helped me on this journey to becoming a writer. Collaborations aren’t just for new writers either, some of these ladies have written books already so it was nice to hear their experiences too. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the book and your specific chapter? In a word, the inspiration is UNITY. 2020 has been the year to have difficult conversations; to explore and to learn about the world around us. Personally, I think the world needs a little reminder that we are all human however, there are many colours to the human race. Every colour is beautiful and every colour deserves to be treated fairly. On top of that, every colour deserves to be seen. It’s a beautiful thought to say “I don’t see colour” but when you say that you erase all these beautiful colours that were created. The world would be boring if we were all the same, so we should say instead “I see your colour, and your colour is just as valuable to this earth as mine”. I grew up having to respect others (even family members) when they would say hurtful or racist things and it took me turning 30 to realize that even though they are family these tough conversations need to be had. It’s not right for me to stand in silence because “that’s just how they are”. I need to speak up and say “this is hurtful to me and to others.” Where can readers purchase a copy? Books can be purchased directly from Amazon. The kindle and paperback versions are available on Amazon right now for pre-order. The book launches on Unity Day (October 21st 2020). You can also purchase a book directly from any of the authors and have them sign it ! We are having a launch party on Facebook (October 21st 2020) and you can catch it here : https://www.facebook.com/Inclusion-Begins-With-I-395411747896199
You also have your first solo book coming out, can you tell us about that? Oh I would too! I am so excited about this! I wrote this book while working in child care and seeing “my kids” get upset when their parents had to travel for work absolutely broke my heart. I wanted to write something to tell them that they are not alone. I wanted them to understand that what they are feeling is normal and that all these different types of families were normal. Just because they look different, or their family looks different then others around them that doesn’t mean that they are alone. I wanted them to know that they are loved by many and that they can get through the day with a little help from others. “Never Too Far Away” comes out November 14th 2020 available on Amazon or directly through me by messaging me on social media. What do you hope readers take away from your work? I have big goals for all my books, especially this one. I want kids to feel like they see themselves being portrayed in my books. I want to show different skin colours, body type, abilities etc. I want my books to showcase different families and teach children to love people regardless of what they look like. I want them to understand that families are different and that’s a good thing. Differences are beautiful! If any kid feels like they aren’t represented or seen in books I want them to reach out so that I can make that change for them! We need to shine a light on all kids, all people and all families. We are all beautiful and we are all important! I also plan on donating a portion of my profits from this book to The Rainbow Klub in Sault Ste Marie Ontario Canada. They are a safe space for 2SLGBTTIQ+ youth and allies and they are at risk of losing their space because of lack of funding. The covid-19 pandemic hit them hard and made things especially more difficult. The founder Katrina, has worked tirelessly every day to make sure these kids had somewhere to turn to. They are trying to get more donations and sponsors, so I hope my book can shine a light on this amazing person and this amazing Klub!
