When I was able to still make important events in my daughter’s life on my own time. You have several titles. How do you balance it all together? With God in the forefront, for whatever role I have to address at that moment. What does self-care look like for you? Putting my phone on DND and a quiet Spa day or taking a walk with Jesus. Where do you hope to see your brand in the next five years? Being a renowned motivational speaker and preacher and a brand that will break generational curses. What has been your greatest lesson thus far in your life? Never forget where you came from and treat people how you want to be treated. www.ey4pc.com

D’Lashelle Porter

D’Lashelle Porter is originally from Richmond, California, with over two decades of payroll experience and knowledge, with a national payroll certification. This past year, she has been blessed to establish a nonprofit organization, L.A.L.A. Nonprofit - Leave A Legacy Always. The mission is to help our youth understand how their payroll checks are calculated and providing financial, educational assistance. L.A.L.A. Enterprise, LLC, was also established last year. “As an indie-author, I self-published $agacious $candals, the first in a trilogy or series. I have not decided yet. By the grace of God, I wear many hats as a parent, grandparent, and business owner. I have yet to achieve my ‘greatest accomplishment, and I am looking forward to pursuing it.” www.lalanonprofit.org You are the CEO of L.A.L.A. Nonprofit. What does the acronym stand for? The acronym stands for Leave A Legacy Always. I am the product of a single mother with a 10th-grade education. In her struggles and tutelage, she was able to leave me with knowledge and the home she finally was able to own. After her passing and many of my own struggles, I realized that leaving something for our children, a family member, or community is critical. You are passing down a piece of yourself after you have departed from this life.

What is the foundation of L.A.L.A Nonprofit? We are founded on helping our youth learn how to leave a legacy by understanding payroll deductions. After almost 25 years as a payroll professional, I have learned that 80% of employees do not understand payroll deductions, payroll taxes, or payroll deductions as a savings platform, which can also lower payroll taxes. Our organization is changing this deficit. Many want to start a nonprofit organization. What was the main thing you learned when starting L.A.L.A Nonprofit? I learned that you absolutely must have strong visionaries on your team to assist with the progression of the dream! My team of board members is God-sent! We all are well versed in our careers and are passionate about helping others learn.

Of course, there is always the factor of money, marketing, and mainstream online platforms we now toggle, which are also important lessons to learn. Yet, the main thing I learned in this endeavor is that influence and the assistance of board members are key! What advice can you give others who want to start a nonprofit? To be patient, ready, and willing to use your own money. There are many forms and applications that must be completed. Many of these forms require fees. As a nonprofit, other organizations require proof from your state or the IRS that you are a legitimate nonprofit. Because of the pandemic, we waited almost 100 days to receive our IRS determination letter approving our 501c3 status, which meant we were at a standstill while waiting for that one form. I shed tears of joy when I read the letter of approval. L.A.L.A. Enterprise LLC was established in 2020. Give us the 411 on that. Yes! I released part 1 of a fiction novel series. I have a couple of poetry books and potentially an autobiography to produce. I am currently in production with voiceovers for my novels. My goal is to expand in the voiceover arena. The proceeds from the sales of my novels go back into our nonprofit to support webinars and scholarships for our youth.

You are working on a series or a trilogy, whichever you decide in the end. Give us a sneak peek into the indie-author world as you were writing and self-publishing $agacious $candals. What is the storyline? I can only imagine that indie-authors have similar experiences with writing, editing, and finally, selfpublishing. It is totally a wonderful challenge! I had read and listened to so many novels until I decided to begin writing my own. Once I started writing, I could not get the storyline out of my head. My main character is a single mom, trying to live a God-fearing life and keep food on the table. She discovers a lucrative hustle and plunges in with her boyfriend. Things spiral in and out of control on many levels. Check out the trailer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=He5NoPlnawI. The book is available on all major platforms and some local libraries.

CHEERS TO EMPOWERMENT LIFE TIPS! Written by: LR Wilson

Many of us survived and are still surviving the pandemic. Through the ups and downs of masks, social distancing, handwashing, and just about every measure you can think of to survive...we made it. Guess what? Yea, we also made it with the "quarantine quarter," as I call it. Yes, Sis, what we didn't survive was gaining extra love on our hips because we were quarantined with pretty much nothing left to do but eat to help us get through it all. The one thing we did not lose was our Empowerment! To be quite honest, it was placed on the back burner because there were so many other things that needed our attention. Family, distance learning, working from home, and whatever else was thrown at us during the last 18 months. Do not fear!! I am here with your Empowerment Tips to get you back on your grind. Tip 1: Pep talk yourself just as you would someone else. You are your best cheerleader! Tip 2: Overload on affirmations! Affirmations give you that boost you need because YOU ARE POWERFUL! Tip 3: Allow yourself some space to make mistakes. You have been through a lot this past 18 months with all the changes, and jumping back into your old pre-pandemic may be trying. Take your time, and if you make a mistake tapping back into the "old normal," shake it off and keep it moving. Tip 4: Get some fresh air! Being stuck in the house can be tiresome. Even if you're not going a lot of places, step outside and spend a minimum of 5 minutes enjoying the fresh air. It rejuvenates the mind. Tip 5: Don't forget you committed to saying No! Yes, you can still say NO to things that no longer interest you or help you grow. You're getting back into the groove of the "new norm," and the "old norm" is still in effect to keep your sanity.

Tip 6: Exercise or, as I like to say, "keep moving." Of course, you don't feel like it. I get it! Traditional exercise is not for everyone in a gym or on a routine etc. You can simply keep moving to get that quarantine quarter down to a dime! Walking, dancing, housekeeping all are things that keep you moving. Tip 7: Journal as much as you can. Journaling gives you time to express your feelings as well as can be done during your downtime as you unwind. Tip 8: Get a hobby! Spring has arrived, and we are on our way into Summer. There's no time like the present to get a hobby or build on a hobby you already have. Maybe even monetize it! Write that book you've been talking about. Open that online boutique! Tip 9: Love You! The key to successfully mastering tips 1-8 is 9! Love you...flaws and all...imperfect perfections...no matter what. Your love for you will allow you to do more and to accomplish all the things you want to happen in your life. The new norm is not so normal, yet we all have a role to play in making things work for us in our lives as well as our families. Remember that YOU ARE AMAZING SIS, and the rest will fall into place! LR WILSON, EMPOWERMENT LIFE COACH "YOU ALREADY HAVE WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED"

There are many facets to “That Riverz Gurl Brand”— can you tell us about the different elements of the business and why you wanted to expand? My brand That Riverz Gurl Brand, represents many things related to what I enjoy doing and what I’m talented and most passionate about. My writing and journalism were a top priority when my brand was made. It consists of my freelance writing, journalism career, media platform called The Riverz Report, and my IGTV series called The Riverz Report Series. I want to expand my talent and career to what I enjoy doing the most: writing and interviewing people so that others can hear about, read about, and know not only about the brand but also the person behind the brand.

At what moment did you realize you wanted to follow a career path in journalism? I started writing at the age of nine, but for journalism, it really started in high school and college, where I wrote for the school’s newspaper and the local paper while in college. At that point, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my writing because I was focused more on writing books. I would say in 2019. I was committed and serious about my journalism career. You are considered a veteran in journalism. What has been your greatest lesson thus far? I’ve been doing this thing called journalism for a hot minute, and I am still learning new things all the time. The greatest lesson I learned so far in journalism is to never rely on other journalists or other media platforms to hand you opportunities because you will just be overlooked. Create your own lane from scratch and while you are creating your own lane, get creative and unique. When I created That Riverz Gurl Brand, that was my own creation, and nobody can’t ever take that away from me or say, “Girl, you stole that idea” That’s why it’s important to protect your brand as well with an LLC. But overall, a lot of people in media aren’t your best friends. If you want opportunities, you got to chase them!

What tips do you have for someone just starting out in freelance writing or journalism? Do your research on what is considered to be freelance writing, write down topics you are interested in, get advice from other freelance writers and ask magazines if they are taking submissions for writers. If you never freelanced before for any publication, my advice is to start a blog and write some articles on there to get your feet wet. You want to build a portfolio as soon as possible so publications and other media platforms can see your work. The more you write for magazines or any other outlet, the more experience and exposure you will have on your resume as a freelance writer. For journalism, if your goal is to interview people, you might want to have a mentor who has been doing interviews for several years.

They will be able to teach you how to interview, what types of questions to ask and how to approach a subject of interest for an interview. For me, I never had a mentor. However, I learned by researching, studying interview questions from other journalists, and watching social media and YouTube interviews to get the proper training. Practice makes perfect, and a lot you can actually do on your own. Also, another tip is never afraid to ask for help or shadow another journalist if you know someone in the same city as you who doesn’t mind you walking around with them for an entire day.

You wear many hats: Author, Journalist, and Entrepreneur. How do you balance your busy schedule? (laughs) I’m still trying to balance my busy schedule with dealing with fatigue as a part of my Sickle Cell, making time for self-care, and working on new interviews for magazines I write for. These publicists keep me busy with their clients, but I won’t complain because I have gotten the opportunity to interview some dope people along the way! But if I’m tired or don’t feel like doing something, I won’t do it, period! Balancing work, career, and personal life has to have priorities and for me, taking care of ME first will always come first! I pace myself weekly and allow myself to relax and just unwind from life. You have written several books; what message do you hope readers take away from your work? I have written books ranging from poetry, fiction, and children. In each book, there are different messages. For my children’s book series called Come Learn with Patricia, the primary message is educating kids as well as adults about Sickle Cell Disease, and with my poetry books, it’s a little bit of everything such as inspiration, situations, and love.

Hmmm, five things I wished someone told me before starting a career in media are: ~You won’t write for high-profile magazines right away. It takes time. ~Everyone doesn’t have your best interest at heart. ~Media is filled with competition, and you have to work harder than the next person. ~Every journalist and publicist isn’t your friend. ~Things take time. What is next for you and your brand? What is next for my brand is continuing conducting interviews, writing for magazines like I’ve been doing for the last couple of years, working on my IGTV series, and finding/creating opportunities for myself. My goal is to become a full-time writer for a major magazine or media company.

What is your definition of a “Pretty Woman Who Hustle’s”? My definition of a Pretty Woman who hustles is a woman of confidence without needing the world’s approval no matter what they think of them. She is a strong warrior who will continue to make herself a better person no matter what! She hustles harder than the next person without hesitation but strives to better herself.

We spoke via Q&A about her story and her why. Tell me about what makes your story stand out. My story stands out because I have spent the last 20 years creating content that empowers my audience and develops career opportunities for other media professionals. It hasn't been an easy road, with mistakes and failures along the way. However, it was worth every facet of the experience because it has shaped me personally and professionally.

What have you learned while working in production? I have learned that proper planning and flexibility go a long way in production. As a producer of a talk show and also independent films, I learned to be organized, detail-oriented, and have excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Consequently, I learned that as much as you plan, circumstances beyond our control might happen on set, and we have to be flexible and roll with the punches. I can produce an interview for my show, research information, write questions and handle scheduling. However, my guest may have to cancel, and I must be ready to fill that spot and coordinate rescheduling. Proper planning and flexibility are valuable skills and tools. What was the most surprising response you had about your business? The most surprising response I've had about my business is someone assuming that my show was produced and distributed by a major production company. The person was incredibly shocked to learn that I independently produce, edit and distribute my talk show. I wake up every day and do the work. I don't focus on what I don't have, but I find gratitude in my skills, support, and resources to make every show a success. Is there a particular moment or memory that stands out for you when you started? When I was 12 years old, I had dreams of being a meteorologist. The opportunity to see a live news broadcast as a child was a memorable experience, and I was so excited. Tucked away in the back of the studio, I wondered how the meteorologist controlled the interactive weather map while standing in front of a green screen. I wondered how production worked and how cameras functioned. Curiosity engulfed me as I wondered what responsibilities everyone in the control room had, leaving me in awe of the news anchors reporting live from the desk. At that moment, I was so curious about video production, both in front of and behind the scenes. That is the moment that sparked future interest in media production. What is your why? My why is to encourage all of the dreamers and visionaries out there to continue to envision their lives in bright, beautiful, and bold color. Life can be hard sometimes, and roadblocks seem to be inevitable. I hope my determination will inspire artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs to be strong- willed and focused on the beauty of their dreams.

Is there an achievement or contribution that you are most proud of? I am most proud of independently producing my talk show and distributing it on local TV in 200 US cities. In 2013, I had a goal to produce my show and have it shown all over the world. I had no blueprint for this feat. I thought I had to find an opportunity with a network or production company first to make my dream come true. I was willing to start from the bottom and work my way up. Instead, I created what I was seeking, and the rest is history. Years later, I can say determination and steadfastness have kept me motivated. What inspires you? I am inspired by many things, including my family, friends, black empowerment, self-care, and building a legacy. We all have an opportunity to contribute to this world through our lives in some special way. I am inspired to help others become the best versions of themselves through my talk show, tell powerful stories through film and Television and allow myself to evolve as a woman, creative, and entrepreneur. How did you know when it was time to launch your production company? I knew it was time to launch Chundria Brownlow Media, LLC because I was tired of waiting on the right time or even the best time to move forward. I had an idea for a film project back in 2019 to promote my TV Talk Show. I cast the project with about 20 actors and actresses. I was ready to proceed with filming when the pandemic hit the world devastatingly. I waited patiently, pushing the project back one quarter at a time. By the end of November 2020, I was determined to be more intentional in the new year and set forth action on my goals. In 2020, I allowed the year to play out. In 2021, I wasn't waiting for anything, and I just took the leap. So, in February, I filmed and released my first short film called Dare To Love. It's about a young, engaged couple struggling to find common ground on their pathway to marriage. What was the biggest challenge you feel that women in production face? It seems the production industry is still incredibly maledominated. The biggest challenge I feel women in production face is the limited opportunities to get started in major film and network TV. Gender equality in media and entertainment is an ongoing issue, and advancing equality is critical for women in the business. However, women are strong, smart, and resilient, and I'm confident we will continue to thrive despite the odds against us.

Why do you hate me? Is it because of what you heard? It is because Covid-19 supposedly came from a Chinese lab? Do you hate me because of my eyes? It’s no surprise. Is it because of false stereotypes? Why do I upset you? Can you tell me why? Did we do something to offend you? Why do you want to hurt me? I’m confused. Help me to understand. I’m just trying to make it in this unfamiliar land. Why the rage? Why the anger? It makes me vomit Why do you bully me? To make my life a living hell? I’m in disbelief. I can’t describe it. I’m mad, sad, and confused. Can you just leave me and my people alone? We don’t want the beef. We want dialogue. We can be reached. I march and hold up a sign. No more Asian hate. Just stop it!

TIPS FOR NEW HOMEBUYERS Written by Rosie Basquin

Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed this milestone in life and purchased a home. Whether it may be your forever home or a temporary nook, there are some important tips new homeowners should know. Make this new transition in life much simpler by following some key rules.

Find a reliable handyman- This is no longer your small apartment with the luxury of an on-call maintenance staff. Not only are you required to do personal upkeep to your home, you've got to still keep up with all the other tasks of the day. Having a reliable handyman will provide less stress when being put to the test. Don't fret about a leaky faucet or clogged sink because you know someone’s got your back.

Save for a “rainy day” fund- After making such a large investment by purchasing a home, you must be prepared for the unexpected. Saving for a rainy day ensures when emergency strikes, a backup plan is ready to be set in motion. Build yourself a better tomorrow by preparing yourself today.

PAGE FOUR| JOURNEY

Spring cleaning- Aht aht! Before getting too comfortable in your brand-new house, you’ve got to make sure you’ve done a deep spring clean of the home. Not only does it aid spiritually in clearing the space and energy and preparing for the new, but it is beneficial for health purposes. Get rid of the bacteria growing and dusty old smells, and open your new home into positive energy flow, candles, and a fresh start to a new beginning. Homeowners insurance- Finding the right kind of homeowners insurance is one of the most important decisions of a new homebuyer. You never think you need insurance until an occurrence arises and it comes in handy. Shop for protection and the protection of your assets for the long haul. Continue investing in your future and the future of your home by choosing the right kind of homeowners insurance. Keep all manuals- Log serial numbers. It may seem unimportant to log serial numbers or keep manuals but when the time comes you will be very glad you did. When something goes out of order or you need to purchase replacement parts, keeping the original manual offers a lot of pertinent information. Also, you have to plan for the unfathomable. God forbid the items you worked so hard to obtain get stolen, logging the serial numbers and the description of the item when making a police report increases your chances of getting it back rather than having nothing at all.

PWH SPOTLIGHT Janelle Dawkins At what moment did you realize you had a passion for helping entrepreneurs? I realized I had a passion for helping entrepreneurs when I realized that people were searching for straight-to-the-point answers. Just starting off as an entrepreneur, you find many promises out there and very few people that actually tell you what it is you need to know to get your business on the right track. When I was in this position, I told myself that I would be the one to give my clients what they want minus the fluff. You help women create profitable businesses. What does a day in the life of “The Admin Superhero” look like? My days are a little non-traditional, meaning that I work when my house is quiet. That is usually early mornings and late nights. That is one of the joys of entrepreneurship – flexibility. I spent many years in a corporate job that did not afford many opportunities to spend time attending my children’s activities, so I incorporate them into my day as well. I am also a creative, so when an idea comes to me, I have to jump on it before it’s gone. What are the top 3 challenges entrepreneurs face when trying to grow their businesses? 1. Getting clear on who their product or service is for. You could have an amazing product or service and just not have it placed in front of the right people to buy it. 2. The right mindset and self-confidence. The business world can be tough, especially for entrepreneurs, because they often compete in a crowded market with fewer resources. You will experience failures and hear plenty of no’s and complaints about your pricing that will have you doubting and second-guessing yourself, so make sure you keep going.

3. Wasting time and money trying to do things on your own when you should get help. YouTube and Google are wonderful tools to do research, but they can cost you time and money when you keep trying to figure it out on your own. As an entrepreneur investing in your business is unavoidable, but you will see an even better return when you do not waste money.

You are a wife, mother, author, and entrepreneur. How are you balancing it all? Balance is a big part of my life because I have so many moving parts. My biggest key is to prioritize my day and then choose three things to complete. I time block my days by having one day dedicated to learning new skills and studying, I have dedicated client days and hours, and I also have dedicated God and family time. One is the biggest misconceptions as an entrepreneur is that you have an abundance of time, so it is imperative to be as organized as possible to balance it all. What does self-care look like for you? Self-care was something I had to force myself to do when I first started to take it seriously. Now my selfcare is non-negotiable. I get monthly massages, manicures, and pedicures. I go to the gym 3 days a week. I make sure I have a space to work on my mental health as well. I also listen to sermons daily to keep the promises of God at the forefront of my mind.

Where do you see your business in the next few years? In the next five years, I see my business expanding into an agency with multiple employees offering the service that business owners need to grow and scale their businesses. I will still offer coaching, but I want to offer more packages to get people closer to their goals quicker than they could on their own. I will also have digital products and courses to support my clients once our one-on-one coaching time is complete.

PWH SPOTLIGHT Written by: Jakia Cheatham - Myles

Rachelle Gross I have always been good at math. Because I was so good in math and computers, my dad started teaching me to do his personal/business taxes at 14. I graduated high school with honors, hoping to be a pharmacist, but after my first year in college, I was not happy, so I took a break. My first job out of high school was banking, and I loved it! I worked in banking for five years but wanted more. I then went to a temporary agency where they tested me. I tested high in accounting, and they offered me a good-paying job doing Accounts Payable, and I loved it! I then decided to go back to school in Accounting to pursue my new love! I received my Associates in 2011 and my Bachelor’s in Accounting in 2020. I am working on my CPA in hopes to receive my Master’s in Accounting in 2022 and move my business to a full-service CPA firm. I decided to start Unique For You in 2015, looking to do taxes professionally and offering consulting. In 2020 I decided to permanently add on monthly bookkeeping and accounting services. I then decided to go full-time into my business, and I am now a growing full-service accounting firm. I am a pro-Active, Dependable, Adaptable Accountant with over 15 years of well-rounded experience in all aspects of accounting using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Personally (I hate talking about myself), I was born and raised in Nashville. I am the oldest of 5 children, one deceased. My parents have been married for 40+ years. I am a Christian and am active in my church. I LOVE music. I love to sing and teach voice parts in the choirs that I am in. I like to talk with people.

Yes, I know I am an accountant. I love to talk business. I am a complete nerd and spent most of my childhood trying to out-read my whole class. Seriously, I still have certificates. I always take out the time to love on my nieces, nephews, godchildren, family, and friends that I look at as family. I am the go-to talk to person because I know who to keep a secret. In my spare time, if I ever have any, I love to watch movies. I hope to get good at fitness. It’s hard to resist coffee and chocolate during tax season. I love to travel!

Unique for You You developed a love for numbers early on. At what moment did you realize this could be a sustainable business? I didn’t realize that my love for numbers could really be a business until I worked for my 1st smaller CPA firm, probably about five years into my career. What services are you currently offering? Full-Service Accounting/Bookkeeping, Income Tax (personal & business), CFO, Advisory, and Business Consulting services. I also teach classes in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Tax & QBO Basics. What are three things consumers should look for when hiring a CPA? Specialties- many CPAs only do taxes and Audits, some do bookkeeping, but only certain industries CPAs do not know it all, so ask a lot of questions and interview them. Sometimes just getting an Accountant or Bookkeeper is better than a CPA Experience- Some Accountants/CPAs come straight from school and have no real experience. Schooling doesn’t always top on-the-job experience. What has been your greatest lesson in business thus far? Learning to know my client. Every client was not for me. Personalities, work, etc., are all different and do not work well together. I used to think I had to accept every client, and I didn’t. I have a network of people I can refer business to if it doesn’t fit me. What are 4 finance tips you commonly used for your clients? 1. Get a business bank account!! 2. Just because you are small doesn’t mean you don’t need a budget. 3. Pricing is key. For services or products, you must consider your business overhead, staffing, etc., to make sure that you are making a profit but not over or undercharging. 4. Hire the right team. It will pay for itself. You cannot do it all. Even if it is a contract or part-time, hire someone to help. What is next for your business? I am working on expanding into other states in partnerships with other Accountants. I have hired a team to help with work while I work on the expansion and teaching. rachelle@unique-for-you.com www.unique-for-you.com

FATHER'S DAY TRIBUTE WRITTEN BY: L RENEE CHUBB

Fathers! It's your day! Happy Father's Day to the husbands, single dads, girl dads, baby daddies, pops, pas, and especially, the "zaddies!" LOL! I know your day often gets overlooked in mainstream media, in-store discounts and ads, and even in real life. Father's Day doesn't garner the same attention and compassion as Mother's Day, in general. In the last 40 years, since the first national observance designated by U.S. Presidents Nixon, Coolidge, and Johnson, fathers have evolved. We aren't going to talk about the ones who don't do what they are supposed to. We don't talk about the mothers who don't do what they are supposed to on that day, so we aren't going to use that as justification to downplay the importance of this one. To the true fathers out there, committed to their children, who help financially, share in household chores, arrange carpools and sit in the school pick-up and drop-off lines, I see you, and I salute you! To those out there filling in as father figures, grandfathers who do "second duty tours" as Dad with the grandchildren, I lost my father two years ago. He was my grandfather. While my biological father is still alive and kicking, the man who made me the woman I am today is no longer with us, Herman Stewart. Happy Father's Day to you. I love you, and I miss you beyond words. This life is just not the same without you! To first-time fathers, this is an amazing time for you! Reach out for support and guidance from other men who are firsttime fathers and share the experience! To my son, Ron Jr., you are such an amazing father to your daughter, and you are kicking ass girl dad. I'm so proud of the man you have become.

Every single dad/father has their own way of being present. The point is that they are. Ladies, be his peace today. Treat him BETTER than he treated you on Mother's Day. Make it a friendly competition to spoil each other. Thank you for doing the most important job in our communities day in and day out!

BY PATRICE RIVERS

Fathers are just as important as mothers Sharing a different type of love like no other You hold a special place in our hearts, as you hug your son or your daughter Can’t no other father replace you because you always have our backs and protect us under the shield of cover You show your son how to be a man and teach him how to respect his elders and how to treat women right You also show your daughter what it’s like for her to be treated by a man so when they get older They will know what to expect and understand Even though a father’s love is different and the bond is special, a father will always hold that soft spot in their kid’s hearts A special tribute to all the fathers Hard-working that provides for their families and never allowing his kids or spouse to stress or struggle Sometimes working multiple jobs or doing a double It doesn’t take much to show a father’s appreciation and the love that he gives The joy, happiness and peace and the love displayed is genuinely real.

e s i n e D e i m m i K What does Sucré Couture mean? Sucré Couture translates to “sweet fashion” in French, but we’re redefining what it means to us. Femininity isn’t exclusive to all things pretty. Sucré Couture to us means raw, sexy, and uncut edge. We aren’t bound to anyone’s traditional ideals of what it means to be a woman. What do you want consumers to envision when they hear the name the Sucré Couture? We want people to envision the ‘90s aesthetic nearly all of us have come to love and admire. We want people to think of the heavy gold, red nails, attitude, and the vintage appeal a lot of us ‘80s and ’90s babies were raised on. Sucré Couture Jewelry has been in a lot of fashion style publications. What was the very first publication? How did that feel seeing your brand on the pages? Our very first publication was British Vogue, followed by Sheen Magazine. It felt gratifying — like someone really sees us and what we’re capable of doing and creating. What makes a Sucré Girl? A Sucré Girl is a fiery masterpiece on her best and worst days. Magnetically attractive by way of her resilience, confidence, and how she shows up and shows out in the world — Sucré Girls are undeniably sexy and supreme in all facets.

Sucré Couture celebrates ten years in the jewelry industry, and to celebrate their anniversary in business, customers who take the “Sucré Girl” quiz and make a purchase of three or more items will receive 20% off their order. To find out if you are a “Sucré Girl,” visit SucreCouture.com.

What is your favorite piece? What makes it your favorite? My favorite piece to date has to be the Basic Instinct Necklace. The latch sets it all the way off. Ten years in the jewelry industry is phenomenal! What advice can you give aspiring jewelry designers? This might sound cliché but keep pushing. Be determined in wanting to see your vision come to life. There will be tons of trial and error, but the mistakes make for an even better masterpiece. There’s no real instant gratification in this game. So you have to have tough skin to make your brand stand strong. Finally, if you could design for any celebrity past or present, who would it be and why? That is an awesome question. If I could design a piece for any celebrity in the past, it would be Billie Holiday. A Sucré Girl indeed — I’d design a whole collection for her.
