JANUARY 2016

LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER Rain, Oh Rain, Go Away! Has been the anthem lately. The old saying goes “April Showers, Bring May Flowers”. Although I have grown tired of the constant rain here in Tennessee, this current season has reminded me of life as an entrepreneur. The first few years in business is spent planting the correct seeds, making connections and positioning our business for longevity. After planting the seeds, it is important for us to nurture and feed the seeds we have planted for our business (Maintenance. Apart of that includes the rainy days, the storms, and even the drought. A lot of us are currently in our maintenance season and that requires rainy days, so that our flowers can bloom bright and boldly in the next season. In this issue we are highlighting Tynesha Armstead, owner of Giving You Face by Tye. Professionally Licensed freelance makeup artist servicing Clark County Las Vegas and Southern California. We invite you to turn the pages of this issue and discover a few female creatives blooming in their businesses.

Until Next Time, Stay Pretty and Paid!

ENTREPRENEUR SPOTLIGHT Tiffany–Ann Bottcher Tiffany-Ann Bottcher, MBA, is the CEO of Bottcher Business Management Agency and the Founder of Elenore.io. She helps entrepreneurs to scale their businesses without losing sleep. Combining her love for business and technology, Tiffany-Ann founded Elenore, an all-in-one communication, automation, and tracking tool for service-based businesses. Tiffany-Ann is a bestselling author, speaker, and host of the "ServiceBased Business Society Podcast." As an operation and automation expert, she has helped businesses from all over the world streamline their processes and increase efficiency. Tiffany-Ann combines her education in accounting, corporate finance, and communications with over a decade of scaling service-based businesses to eight figures and beyond. What inspired the start of Bottcher Business Management Agency? I founded the agency based on three guiding principles. 1). Objectives and results are essential. I wanted to help business owners focus their attention and energy on clear objectives, develop action plans, and execute with precision. Often I see entrepreneurs pour energy into areas of their business that are not offering any return, and I wanted to help prevent this.

2). The specialist will offer better results than the general practitioner. However, business owners have limited time, and sourcing, managing, and leading a team of specialists can be very timeconsuming. I wanted to bring amazing talent to businesses that were in growth mode. 3). I love the strategy and development that goes into building and scaling businesses. I am so passionate about what I do. I wanted to impact more businesses. What does the day in the life of Tiffany-Ann Bottcher entail? I live on the west coast, so I always check in on client messages and emails first thing. Since we have clients all over North America, they are often up and working earlier.

Then I shift to Mom mode and get my three kids up and out the door. My kids are 8, 6, and 3. Once the kids are at school, I settle in for client calls, team meetings, and fulfillment. I am very hands-on with the strategy side and build out the action plans for each of our clients. Early evenings are filled with my driving duties, shuffling kids to sports practices. I grab moments to work while I can, and I often video chat with clients or film TikToks in my car. Once the kids are in bed, I jump back on the computer for the “night shift.” One of the things I chat about in my marketing is that we use automation and process so entrepreneurs can scale without losing sleep. While this is 100% possible, I have filled the time created by efficiencies and automation with additional business opportunities. So really, the time created can be used for many different things... sleep or serial entrepreneurship. How do you balance running two brands while helping so many others scale their businesses? Caffeine and passion. The secret sauce to success. We have a great team, good systems, and we automate whenever we can! I also want every business I work with to win; it fuels me. You host the "Service Based Business Society Podcast." What message do you hope listeners take away from your show? The show provides a blend of easy-to-implement tips with deeper thought-provoking conversations. I have had the pleasure of interviewing some incredible guests. I want listeners to be able to grab some great value while also enjoying some relatable conversation with those who can spark inspiration.

The book, Women In Business in a Changing World, is the ninth book in the Woman of Worth series. I often explain the book as almost like Chicken Soup for the Soul, with each chapter a unique story. The opportunity couldn't have come along at a better time. It was an incredible experience to be part of the book and meet some amazing women. Where do you hope to see your brands in the next 3-5 years? The business has grown so much; we have some very ambitious goals. We are seeing some fantastic results and adoption from our elenore.io brand. Elenore is an all-in-one tech platform for servicebased businesses. From prospective client communication to team scheduling, Elenore automates and enhances your processes. We are looking to impact hundreds of businesses over the next few years. Continuing to develop the agency team is key to continued success. Over the next few years, I see a deeper cross-over of services and will look to offer our agency services to Elenore subscribers. If you could collaborate with any brand, who would it be and why? I would love to collaborate with the team at DigitalMarketer. They have some very talented people and put out some fantastic training. I would love to see a collaboration looking at the operations support required for the marketing techniques they teach. What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles? A passionate woman exuding energy, confidence, and femininity while grinding for her goals.

Aside from your busy schedule as a CEO, Podcast Host, and Speaker, you are also a Best-Selling Author. Can you tell us about your book? I had the opportunity to collaborate on a book just after leaving the corporate position. WWW.ELENORE.IO

CHURCH GIRL LIFESTYLE EDITION

PRETTY WOMEN HUSTLE Minister Brittany Brannon Minister Brittany Brannon, the wife of Diolentia Brannon and daughter of Marlow Gist and Benjamin Beaty, is a lifelong native of Union County, SC. She is a member of Wyatt’s Chapel Baptist Church in Buffalo, SC, under the leadership of Rev. Elijah Ray, where she serves as Associate & Youth Minister. She accepted her call into the ministry at age 16 and did her initial sermon on February 13, 2011, at the age of 21. Brittany has a heart for working with the community by ministering and being an example by showing them that in life anything is possible and showing others that all things work together for good to them that love God, who are called according to this purpose. Brittany has an associate degree in liberal arts, a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and a master’s degree in psychology. She is currently a student at Walden University, working towards her PhD in forensic psychology. She is currently employed with the Carolina Department of Social Services as an Investigator. She is the CEO of the JFL Mental Health Alliance and Labella Adele Accessory Boutique. She enjoys vacationing and meeting new people, but most importantly, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. One of her favorite Bible verses is Isaiah 6:8 “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying whom shall I send and who will go for us? Then said I, here I am Lord send me.”

She often tells those she comes in contact with that she is just a nobody trying to tell everybody about somebody who can save anybody. No Pressure, No Diamond: The Journey to Healing reveals her mountaintop victories and intimate struggles within the valley. Brittany began this journey as a writer in January 2017 but felt that she could not be transparent with her readers if she was not fully transparent with herself. This caused her to go on a journey to uncover and heal from the wounds of depression that came from generational curses and childhood trauma. Brittany’s story is a remarkable journey that will make you not laugh and cry but, most importantly, learn the power of healing and forgiveness. Who is Minister Brittany Brannon, outside of ministry and entrepreneurship? I am a wife, daughter, friend, and all-around family woman! I love spending time with friends and family as there is NEVER a dull moment. I love music and take joy in traveling to new places, meeting new people, facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, wigs, and eating! I am loud in voice and will talk your head off effortlessly; whatever comes up comes out (lol)! I am a people person who loves everybody and never meets a stranger. I smile randomly and uncontrollably!

As I got older, I graduated high school and went to college. God continuously reminded me of the task he assigned me. I was about 21 years old, in a nightclub with a close friend. I was having the time of my life, and out of nowhere, the Holy Spirit had that same talk with me that he did when I was 16. I pressed forward and completed my initial sermon on February 13, 2011, and I haven’t looked back since! What has been the most challenging part of balancing ministry and entrepreneurship? The most challenging thus far would be trying to be “everything” for everyone. As Christians, we are called to serve, but every assignment is not ours. The “God” in me drives me to help others when I can, but the entrepreneHER side of me would run circles around my life and others, to the point I did not have boundaries causing me to have constant feelings of burned out, which at one point caused me to lose my drive for what I do. What advice do you have for Christian women with goals of entrepreneurship, etc., while focusing on their calling? To whom is given, much is required (Luke 12:48). Your calling is not for the weak, and neither is your God weak!

He does not call the qualified; he equips the called! Always remain Humble, and act as Jesus did, which is in truth and love! Realize when you have become tired and take a break! There is power in rest ad recharging! Don’t “Chase the bag.” Pursue the kingdom! (Matthew 6:33) What was the inspiration behind your brand Labella Adele Accessory Boutique? The Labella Adele Accessory Boutique was founded in 2019 and is named in honor of my late paternal grandmother, Adell Beaty. My grandmother was a lady of class and elegance, both in clothes and her actions. Always uplifting, whether it be through jokes or words of wisdom. Growing up, I would always tell her how beautiful she was and how much people say I resemble her looks, which means I am beautiful too (lol). I don’t have any children, and I would tell her if I had a little girl, I would name her Adele in honor of her. What better way to honor her than to name my first business “baby” after her! Can you share the mission behind The JFL Mental Health Alliance? The JFL Mental Health Alliance is a non-profit I began creating in 2019, named in honor of my late maternal grandfather James Franklin Littlejohn. Since I was about 12 years old, I have had issues steaming from PTSD, anxiety, and depression due to childhood trauma. The mission of The JFL Mental Alliance is to support, educate, and assist in recommending services to empower families who live with the challenges of mental health disorders by providing a safe place to share their stories and find other avenues of support based on the client’s individual needs. In shorter terms, “Recognize, Accept, and Process.” What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who hustles? A Pretty Women Who Hustles is one whose aesthetic naturally is “dope!” I mean all sorts of stops and stares on her outer beauty and her inner spirit! She may not have it all figured out, but she takes the leap of faith, believing that ALL things are working for her good! (Matthew 19:26). For more info:

CHURCH GIRL LIFESTYLE EDITION

When did you realize you had a calling on your life that you must pursue? What can you remember about that moment? Whew! I will never forget the moment. I was about 16 years old, and I watched many of my classmates excel in academics, jobs, and sports. I tried both avenues and did not get any satisfaction. One night in my room, I prayed to God and said, “What am I supposed to do!?” After the prayer, I did not give it any more thought until about two months when the Holy Spirit spoke to me clear as day. I told God several times, “Surely you got this mixed up.” There is no way out of all things I would think God would choose me as his vessel, and at that age! I spoke with my then-pastor, and he began teaching and training me, which was short-lived on my behalf. Let’s just say I bagged down due to people telling me I couldn’t be sure of this anointing God placed on my life because I was so young and had life to live.

PRETTY WOMEN HUSTLE

Temycka Carpenter Carlton Temycka Carpenter Carlton is a Certified Paralegal and Professional with 15+ years of Immigration Law, Criminal Law, and Family Law experience and now is a Leading Launch Strategist and Certified OBM, Automation Business Strategist, and Wealth Activator. As an entrepreneurial mother who took life by the horns and paved her way to being a successful business owner, she was able to birth Women On The Rise Consulting, LLC to uplift, walk with, and develop the dreams of Mom Entrepreneurs and beyond. You should trust her because she has been helping women and mom entrepreneurs, law firm owners, and partners build an online presence, get new clients on repeat, and dominate their area of specialty repeatedly. She not only helps you take advantage of tools and technology as a systems and automation coach, but she also has seen the unique struggles entrepreneurs face and how to overcome those struggles and turn them into strengths.

Who is Temycka outside of entrepreneurship? I am a single mom building a legacy for my kids. As much as I love business and strategy, my children and the legacy that I will leave for them is why I show up. I show up every day with a drive that I can't really put into words, but I know that I am committed to making a difference and helping entrepreneurs succeed. What inspired your start in becoming a Certified Paralegal? How did your passion shift into becoming a launch strategist and working with entrepreneurs specifically? I've always wanted to become a lawyer to help underprivileged people. I wanted to do research and uncover the laws that were against women. My passion for advocating for women carried into the area of being a launch strategist because I witnessed the burnout that business owners face while working as a paralegal. I decided to use my gift of being analytical, developing systems, and helping things flow better to transition to help the attorneys I worked with and other business owners become more effective.

ENTREPRENEUR SPOTLIGHT What has been the most rewarding part of your career? What has been the most challenging? The most rewarding part of my career is the flexibility to be a stay-at-home mom. The most challenging is staying afloat towards the end game of building a legacy for my children. As appealing as the flexibility is, it can be difficult to not have days where I have to remind myself that I'm making the right decision as an entrepreneur. However, when I can show up fully for my children and experience being present for them, I know that I have made the right choice. What tips do you have for entrepreneurs preparing to launch a new program? Implement a clear plan. You are not ready to launch until you have a clear idea of the end goal and what it's going to take to get there. The next step is to not just plan but execute. Too much time can be wasted thinking about the launch and what you plan to do. The best use of this time is in execution. What most of us will find in the execution phase is feedback. I don't call this failure because whether it's "good" or "bad," there is a lesson to be learned to grow from. After execution, all that is left is to take the feedback and repeat.

What message do you hope women in entrepreneurship take away from your platform? I hope that women understand that they are valuable. Any adversity that we come against, we can overcome. I hope that women know that it is important to believe in yourself. Whatever comes your way, you have it in you to rise to the occasion. Most importantly, you matter. Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 35 years? I would like to see my brand having multiple umbrellas under a billion-dollar entity. I hope to be global and make an impact on both a small and large scale. What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles? A woman who puts herself first. She is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She is not afraid to call out what doesn't sit right with her and is praised for doing so. Pretty is more than a look and a label; it is a lifestyle that she takes wherever she goes.

A PRETTY WOMAN WHO HUSTLES:

Jovanda Patrice

I had the great pleasure of speaking with Jovonda Patrice about her love and passion for singing. Jovonda is a multifaceted career woman who displays love and passion through her vocals. Check out what this beauty has to say.

What inspired the start of singing? Being born into a musically inclined family, music was like a delicacy. We sang around the house, in church, at family reunions, etc. My sisters and I had a group. My mother was very strict when it came to our singing and presentation. If it was not right, she would stop us and make us start over. She wanted us to understand that the usage and display of our gifts was not for us but for those in need. When I sing, it takes me to another place. Who is Jovonda in four words? Jovonda is fierce yet gentle, witty, classy. What is something you want people to take away from your singing? Something I want people to take away from my singing is an unforgettable experience. I want people to remember how my singing made them feel. What message would you have for an aspiring musician?

For an aspiring musician, the message I would have is to master your craft, embrace, enhance, and nurture your gift. Do not allow anyone to misuse or downplay your gift, aspiration, or love for it. Never accept anything less than your worth. Lastly, be versatile. How do you juggle your full-time career and your love for singing? Because singing is such a major part of me and my livelihood, it makes it quite easy to perform at my best for my career and singing. What is a quote you live by daily that has helped shape your singing style? One of many of my daily quotes is “Focus on How To Make It Happen!” Even after over four decades of singing, I still get ridiculously nervous. Despite the number of people in the crowd, I say that, as well as, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me…” I put my shades on, then hit the stage.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles? My definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles is a focused, driven woman determined to succeed, who knows her worth and does not seek validation from anyone. A Pretty Woman Who Hustles takes pride in their physical beauty and image and how they handle business, people, and their overall interactions with others. They leave a lasting impression. I know you sing different genres of music. What is your favorite and why? Although I absolutely love most genres, Gospel has always been my favorite genre of music because of its rich depth and meaning. I sing Gospel music to get through my hardest tests and trials. It deeply ministers to my heart and tears and meets my needs.

GIVING YOU Tynesha Armstead FACE PWH FEATURE

My name is Tynesha Armstead, but I prefer to go by Tye. I am the owner and founder of Giving You Face by Tye. I am a professionally licensed freelance makeup artist servicing Clark County, Las Vegas, and Southern California. I am also a full-time online student working on my master’s degree in business administration. I am a blessed mother of three amazing children: Carlos Jr, who is happily married, Antonio, who is an amazing upcoming artist, and my soon-to-be 8-year-old daughter, who loves everything about the art of dance. I love using makeup to enhance the natural beauty of other women and highlight their individuality. I believe makeup is for everyone, along with the proper education on caring for their skin. Every client that blesses my chair is also invited into a space for conversations and resources that challenge the confines of the beauty industry. I use only the top-quality products that give my clients a stunningly radiant look, whether you’re in front of the camera, walking onto a set, or walking down the aisle. My makeup looks will have you feeling naturally and flawlessly YOU. I am knowledgeable about the most up-to-date standards that determine makeup looks and headshot trends.

How did you get your start in the Makeup Industry? I always loved playing in my grandmother’s and mother’s wardrobe and makeup as a young girl. Growing up, I took a natural interest in everything beauty (hair, skincare, nails, and makeup). I earned my Cosmetology license at the vocational high school I attended and worked for a short while in my aunt’s salon as her assistant. I did nails for a short time and then made a career shift into healthcare. Twelve years later, the hospital I worked for decided to restructure, and I found myself unemployed but was able to live off of the severance package and other financial resources I had saved and available to me. I had never really been a fan of wearing makeup myself. My younger sister, who is an aesthetician, convinced me to think about doing makeup on others. Hence, I started practicing makeup on myself and slowly started practicing on close friends. This all started in 2015. In addition to practicing on close friends, I also attended online makeup courses earning a Makeup Certification. Can you share how Giving You Face by Tye got its start? So, in 2017, I was speaking to my sister, and we were brainstorming names for my makeup business. And you would have to know us to understand our twisted sense of humor, but we were on the topic of what captures most people we know and didn’t know. Well, to say the least, I was like, “How does Giving You Face sound?” I can not recall the exact conversation, but instead of saying, giving you head, I’m Tye, I just turned it around, and that is how I came up with the name Giving You Face by Tye.

I made it official in 2020 when I registered my business as an LLC through Nika Brown Legacy. I tried doing it myself, but I met a wonderful young woman I was introduced to when I was booked to do makeup for a fashion photoshoot and Mrs. Tenika Brown offered her services to me, and she has been a blessing. Tenika Brown Legacy is my goto for all of my small business needs. What services do you currently offer? The services I currently offer are Traditional Makeup, a soft glam, Bridal Glam Makeup services, and for Bridal appointments, I offer travel services. The largest bridal party booked was for 10 ladies. For large parties, my sister and I collaborate. Glam Glow consists of dramatic 5D lashes from my lash line called Floetic Lashes, cut crease, glitter, or both. Glitz & Glam is my girls’ night out party package for 4-8 ladies. I also offer domestic travel for weddings and 1:1 makeup lessons. Do you offer classes for aspiring makeup artists? I do offer 1:1 makeup lessons and group lessons. I am currently working on offering virtual makeup lessons and pre-recorded lessons to offer clients. Having several years in the beauty industry, how would you describe your creativity? My creativity has always come from a woman’s natural beauty. I do not follow every trend because, in my opinion, every trend is not meant to be followed.

I do not follow every trend because, in my opinion, every trend is not meant to be followed. "

Skincare has always been a priority for me, so it is important for me to educate my clients on the correct way to apply makeup, make product recommendations, and not just apply makeup to their skin. I teach my clients how to properly care for their skin because makeup should not be used to hide you but to enhance the beauty or magnify the beauty that is already there. Understanding skin tone and seeing what colors compliment the many different women that bless my makeup chair. That drives my creativity -- seeing something in you and bringing it out and then teaching you how to do it daily. Applying makeup doesn’t have to take hours and hours, but maybe 15-20 minutes at most for a simple soft “no makeup” makeup look. How do you balance entrepreneurship, motherhood, and school full-time? Oh my goodness, by the grace of God. Seriously, staying in prayer and reading my Bible daily has brought me so far because my journey has been bumpy. I am not where I want to be yet, but I am on my way. Working hard for years for others and being let go without a heads up led me to figure out my niche in Cosmetology and landed me in makeup. I wear many hats, and it is important for me to position myself to have several streams of income. I carry a Happy Planner that I keep my daily schedule in as well as on my iPhone calendar so that I stay on task. At 9:00 pm, I shut it down, and my day starts at 5:00 am. I take an hour out of my day 3-4 days a week to exercise, and I am mindful of the foods that I eat. In my Happy Planner, I write down my prayers for the week along with positive affirmations.

I speak positively over myself daily as well as my family and my business, and I surround myself with like-minded men and women. I absolutely do not allow negativity into my space. So, sticking to a schedule, staying focused, and reminding myself why I started is imperative. My balance comes from not following the crowd so that I can do what I want to do, travel with my kids without worries, and build wealth for my kids. Is there a coach, makeup artist, or brand that inspires you? My aunt, who I worked with early on, has always been my mentor. She has always inspired me because she has been an entrepreneur successfully for over 30 years. There are a couple of beauty influencers that I follow on Instagram that I absolutely love: MakeupShayla and Ellarie. I have followed them since before they were on the platforms they are on now but following their journey has been very inspiring, and they are who I watch when I want to learn different makeup looks and application techniques. Makeup beauty brands that inspire me are The Crayon Case by Supa Cent; now, her story is definitely an inspiration. What are your go-to products that must be in your kit at all times? My go-to products are Juvia’s Place, Morphe Cosmetics and Morphe makeup brushes, Maybelline, NYX Cosmetics, Anastasia, and NARS. Fenty Beauty is my number one for skincare and cosmetics. The products I use in my kit are products I have and use on myself. If you could collaborate with any brand, who would it be and why? I would love, love, love to collaborate with Fenty because I am a Rihanna fan. I love how she took her time with the branding of Fenty Skin and Fenty Beauty. Out of all of the products I have used in the past, I have been able to stick with Fenty since it dropped. I would also love to collaborate with Juvia’s Place because the eyeshadows are so pigmented without using an eyeshadow base.

The foundation and the foundation sticks spread like butter on the skin, and the tones are perfect for matching the foundation to a variety of skin complexions. What tips do you have for beginners who desire to add makeup to their daily routine? I cannot stress it enough. Take care of your skin before adding makeup to your daily routine. Makeup goes on so much better, and it takes less when you are applying it to healthy skin. Give yourself steamed facials at least once a week, and the products you use do not have to be expensive to be considered “good” products, but if they are cruelty-free, vegan products, you can’t go wrong. Also, being aware of your allergies to foods and product ingredients is key as well. Do not ever sleep in your makeup because it damages the skin cells and can age you. What can readers expect from Giving You Face by Tye next? I am old school when it comes to marketing and networking, so I am getting used to the social media world like TikTok and creating fun and fancy videos. Still, you can definitely look out for virtual makeup classes, Facebook Lives, and Instagram Lives. I will soon be adding eyelash extensions to my list of services and hosting personal and virtual wine tasting events called “Wine & Makeup.” What advice do you have for someone looking to start in the makeup industry? Never stop learning, be teachable, and be willing to teach others; you can do so many things with makeup, like theatrical makeup for movie sets, Broadway plays, etc. The sky is the limit. Work every day at perfecting your craft. What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles? A Pretty Woman Who Hustles is any woman who is educated, dreams big, believes in, and puts God first in all that she sets out to do, moves in silence, and allows her accomplishments to speak loudly.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT

Shardae Bennett If you could use any four words to describe your passion, what would it be? The four words I would use to describe my passion would be unwavering, brazen, selfless, and adaptable. What message do you hope children take away from their experience with the Fort Julian Academy? The message I want children/parents to take away is that we are providing a safe place that allows them to process their understanding of ADHD and Autism. While educating awareness, we teach best practices through building our own mental health family support system. Every child has its own unique place, with us acknowledging the beauty of his/her differences.

Shardae Bennett was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the founder and CEO of Fort Julian Academy, a nonprofit business specializing in providing resources and education for children of color with ADHD and Autism. Shardae is licensed and certified in ADHD and autism awareness and has worked in the insurance industry for several years. What began as a mother’s effort to help her own children became a passion project that now helps countless children and families. Building on her passion, Shardae loves writing children’s books focusing on ADHD/Autism and other empowerment topics. Her one wish is to create purposeful work displaying her experiences and life lessons.

What inspired your start in entrepreneurship? I have always wanted to service and support our youth. And the best way to start is at home, having a child with ADHD. I was fueled to create the very thing that I couldn’t find for him. I created a nonprofit for children of color with ADHD and Autism. And I also became a children’s author covering underrepresented topics and various social concerns.

What can families expect from your written work? Families can accept me simply acknowledging the beautiful differences our children with disabilities have while affirming them. I allow our children to see themselves in my books and provide continuous reminders of embracing their uniqueness. It starts with us building them today to secure strong confidence in themselves for whatever life may provide them as lessons tomorrow. Where do you hope to see your business in the next 3-5 years? My goal is to see my organization partner with schools to educate and complete workshops that will provide awareness and best practices. As an author, I want to align my books with the school system, doctors’ offices, and family therapy practices. My dream is to have my children’s books and coloring books be a common tool in aiding them in learning what the disability is and igniting an interest in knowing more about it. What is your definition of a Pretty Woman who Hustles? She is a woman who continues to push even when the odds are stacked against her. She then looks at the odds and sees how she can transform them into her testimony. www.alignedabsolutepublishing.com

MAGIC ON THE WALL BY NATASHIA HAGANS

Writing poetry is like magic It is not easy as it looks You see Folks have to figure out what fits Matching flow to the script To beat of a drum or guitar

Words coming out of nowhere From a black fedora hat Making words jump like a rabbit To the hip and hop And a bounce With a remix Pushing and grinding that pencil and pen To write then erase Starting all over again Then the magic clicks The poet’s engine light Starts again

An explosion begins The writing becomes vigorous Racing to the finish line Almost going off the cliff To read again and again Until the poetry becomes floetry

So the next time a person thinks poetry Is absolutely easy Also, it’s nothing Remember this The mind, thoughts, and writing Don’t always come easy for a poet

Which makes it so powerful A colossal of the thoughts That magically appear On concrete energy With a pen and paper The magic of poetry begins and ends from within

A poem by Natashia Hagans in dedication to National Poetry Month

THE CHURCH GIRL LIFESTYLE EDITION

PRETTY WOMEN HUSTLE

Helen Newlin

Helen Newlin is the founder of Overcomers United, an inspirational apparel line for women, men, and young adults. It is a brand created with the purpose of sharing that with Christ “You and I are overcomers!” Overcomers United started as an idea that manifested into a book entitled A Daily Surviving Overcomer. This book is utilized to encourage women who face the daily trials of life. With the success of this book and our 4-star rating, we have been able to launch “Women Who Are Daily Surviving Overcomers,” an inspirational Facebook page used to uplift. After much prayer, God gave the vision of “Overcomers united” a platform for Women and Men to unite and represent Christ together as a witness to the world. They are able to do this by wearing a T-shirt, carrying a tote bag, wearing a mask, or drinking from a mug or cup to be used as a conversational piece. Helen says that her mission is not to only tell them about her business but to serve as an example, a reminder of what God has done for us all. It is to know that God is real regardless of what is going on in the world. We are overcomers!

At what moment did you realize you had a passion for sharing God’s message with men and women? It began after being totally healed from past relationships and a bad marriage. It didn’t happen overnight. It took 16 years to get all the hurt, low self-esteem, resentment, self-blame, anger, and betrayal out. I’m a Christian woman who loves God and those around me, but a pruning stage was needed to be an effective encourager and mom and woman. I continually attended my ministry, listened to the teachings of my Pastor, and intentionally applied what was taught in my daily life for a change. What inspired the name “Overcomers United”? It is based on 1John 5:4. It is to know that all people and races, men and women, and young people can unite peaceably. It is to be able to share the things we’ve overcome as an example to know if we did it, they can too.

What message do you hope people take away from your products? It is to be a reminder of who God says they are regardless of what they face. They are part of a positive movement. No one can alter or change the perception of how special you are in God’s eyes. Believe in yourself because he believes in you. What can people expect next from “Overcomers United”? I’m going to continue to introduce new items and market my brand. I do videos on my Facebook platform and will begin to do some on Instagram. I’m in the process of getting my website revised in the next couple of months so I can broaden myself even more for exposure. I’m open to speaking to women’s groups, women’s jails, prisons, and transitional housing areas with couples of men and women. How are you currently balancing entrepreneurship and ministry while building this brand? It is time-consuming being a business owner; it never stops. Yes, I have to take a break to rest. Who doesn’t? But that’s when new ideas and approaches come that I work on to become better. I look at the appropriate times to do my business so that it doesn’t collide with what I do at home and in ministry.

If you could collaborate with any brand, who would it be and why? I would love to work with Lifeway Christian stores, Target, Walmart, and Relevant Magazine. Again, I’m still learning, but this was birthed out of me by God. I want my brand to be an inspiration and blessing to ALL people and give hope to the hopeless. What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles? A woman on a mission to pursue and achieve her dreams and succeed no matter what comes her way! She enlightens her sisters and peers to do the same. The word hustle can be used negatively and seen as being aggressive. This is not the case here. I see a woman with a go-for-it attitude who is not arrogant and has the courage to step out and make things happen. That is powerful! I see a tribe of women all over the world breaking controversy. I see women taking each other by the hand and congratulating and celebrating each other’s achievements. That is a Pretty Woman Who Hustles.

Overcomers United has new products coming this summer. You can connect with Helen or preorder for your next women’s functions or purchase for you and your family.
