Is it true that you grew up wanting to be a superhero?

It is true! My family moved from Guyana to Canada at a time when Canada had just opened its doors to non White immigrants My family and I were often the only POCs in our neighborhoods and school It led to a lot of funny moments but also a lot of painful ones When I was a kid, I thought if I had a superpower specifically, if I could read minds I’d know who the good people were, and maybe, just maybe, I would feel safe in my skin and my environment I also saw how much people loved superheroes and figured being a superhero would be a more attractive spotlight than the one that currently shone on me as (often) the only POC in the room As I grew older, I realized what made a superhero an actual superhero wasn’t their power but their acceptance and embracing of being different They remained grounded in who and what they were, despite any contrary messages sent by society I suppose, in that sense, I still want to be a superhero

Your popular books for kids, teens, and adults mix mystery, action, and creepy with a whole lot of humor. Tell us about the Spooky Sleuths Series.

I’m so excited about this series! Published with Penguin Random House Young Readers, the series follows Asim and his friends as they try to solve the mysteries behind the creepy occurrences in their town

In book one, The Ghost Tree, Asim moves to Lion’s Gate, where he meets Rokhsar and encounters a host of spooky things like hovering objects in the sky, people disappearing into the fog, and a tree in the town cemetery one that seems to be growing at an alarming rate and whose leaves seem to make the outline of a skull Like his mom, Asim is a lover of supernatural stories, especially the stories she shares from growing up in Guyana, and he’s convinced something supernatural is responsible for the tree Rokshar, on the other hand, is a scientist at heart and thinks an experiment gone wrong might be at the heart of the mystery. When the tree seems to turn the adults into mean, bug eating grouches, Rokshar and Asim team up with their friends Max, Malachi, and Devlin, to figure out the truth behind the tree. I loved a lot about writing the series, from the healthy dose of humor to offset the spooky factor to including age appropriate scare factors But two of the things I really enjoyed was that while Rokshar and Asim may not always agree about a science or spooky solution to the tree, they are always open to the possibility the other friend may be right, and they’re supportive of each other throughout. The other thing I love is that the conclusion is open ended, leaving it to the reader to decide who was correct, Asim or Rokshar

The book is illustrated by the wildly talented Lissy Marlin and features bonus material (excerpts from Asim and Rokshar’s journals and a note on the inspiration of the story)

You just released the book, The Signs and Wonders of Tuna Rashad. Where did your inspiration for the main character derive from?

One of the most difficult parts of being human is dealing with loss and grief In Tuna’s story, I wanted to ask questions about the different ways we grieve and how a broken heart can simultaneously push people together and pull them apart But I didn’t want the novel to be heavy or sad I wanted to show that once we have been loved by someone, that love never leaves Their impact on our lives is with us, offering comfort and beautiful memories forever

It was a lot of fun to write a strong, confident protagonist who wasn’t afraid to be herself and lean into the things she wanted. Especially when those decisions landed her in hilarious scenarios!

What did you enjoy the most when writing this book?

Hands down, writing the funny! I loved the challenge of combining heavy topics with a lot of light, and creating unique, loving characters whose journeys connect with readers.

What is next for you?

This fall, I’m teaching “Writing for Children: Introduction” with the University of Toronto (online). I’m currently working on two YA novels and an early reader

DOWN SYNDROME IS MY DIAGNOSIS, BUT IT IS NOT WHO I AM:

MEET ELIJAH BOBBI

Early in his childhood, life began teaching Elijah lessons that would mold him into the little boy he is today. He has been battling to be in this world since conception.

Elijah’s mom was sick one day at work and went to the doctor only to find out she was pregnant. The doctor informed her that because she had a marina (IUD), it would have to be removed, which would most likely terminate the pregnancy. After the doctor removed the IUD, they checked to see if the baby was still there. To the doctor’s surprise, Elijah was still there with a strong heartbeat.

The doctor informed Elijah’s parents that sometimes the baby would abort itself in these cases in a few days, so he scheduled a follow-up appointment. When Elijah’s parents returned two weeks later, the doctor checked the heartbeat and said, “Well, we can consider this a pregnancy because the baby is still there. God must have meant for this baby to be in this world because this baby is fighting.”

As time went on, Elijah’s parents were made aware at one of their appointments that he would have Down Syndrome. The doctors informed his parents they could do an amniocentesis which can be used to diagnose several health conditions and chromosomal conditions. He said this procedure could abort the baby, and his parents were against the procedure. They said they would trust God in the process.

Later after Elijah’s parents got an ultrasound, they discovered that Elijah had several holes in his heart, and they would have to monitor if the holes would close on their own. Elijah’s mother saw a heart specialist during her entire pregnancy. On December 13, 2013, Elijah’s mom went to the hospital for them to induce her. Later that evening, the nurses came in because Elijah had stopped breathing. Hence, his mom had to have an emergency c-section.

Although he has been hospitalized at Duke Children’s Hospital several times, he is not on any medication Today, Elijah is eight years old, in the 3rd grade, and vocal

"Elijah Bobbitt was born on December 13, 2013, in Fayetteville, N.C. A true warrior was birthed into this world that day."

He was immediately taken to NICU, where he had to be fed through a tub and monitored constantly. Elijah stayed in the hospital for a month and a few days to see if he could breathe on his own and continue eating to get his weight up. When he was about to be released from the hospital, his mother had to stay overnight at the hospital with him in a private room to see if it would be okay to go home without a machine.

At four months, he had open heart surgery to have his Atrial Septal Defect Ventricular Septal repaired because it did not close on its own. He came through that surgery like a little champ. At eight months, he had to have a second open heart surgery. He was a little older for this one, so he was on a ventilator for a day. His grandmother began to pray, and suddenly, he began waving his left arm in the air as if he were worshiping. The nurse and doctors came to work on him. As soon as they unhooked him, he fed himself with his bottle.

At that point, his parents knew he was a true warrior. Elijah had one more surgery on another body part but was doing well. It was said that he would not walk, and he did not walk at first -- he ran. They said he would be nonverbal, but he can talk; his first word was JESUS. Elijah could not say much for a while, but he would take over the pulpit at any church, praying and calling on the name of Jesus at a very young age. He would be in the stores and just reach out and touch people and say, “Jesus.”

One lady said, “I felt that baby’s touch. I have been in pain dealing with cancer,” and she began praising God right in the middle of the store. Elijah fell in love with gospel music at an early age and loves to play Shirley Caesar all day on repeat. Although he has been hospitalized at Duke Children’s Hospital several times, he is not on any medication. Today, Elijah is eight years old, in the 3rd grade, and vocal. So, as you can see, no matter your diagnosis, your faith will always change the trajectory.

"Elijah was born weighing four pounds, five ounces full term "

Motivational Speaker and Executive Coach, Launches New Book, The Big Power of Tiny Connections
J E N N
S H

Jen Nash is a motivational speaker and executive coach whose primary goal is to help people and companies add more meaning to their lives through personal connection and personalization. Jen has successfully launched executive courses designed for marketability and is constantly conducting presentations to not only companies but also schools and universities about the goal of connection, which ultimately includes friendships in adulthood.

How important have personal connections and personalization been to your career?

Oohhh, great question! Looking back, my career has been a fantastic roller coaster of twists and turns. I went to the prestigious art school in New York called Parsons School of Design (think Donna Karen and Calvin Klein), but when I graduated, I ended up assisting a top New York city recruiter and became a financial reporter for a few years Then one of my college professors hired me to be a copywriter at his new advertising agency. That hire was the first time I saw the power of personal connections in action He and I connected while I was in school, and he liked my work so from that moment onwards, almost all my endeavors, jobs, and entrepreneurial initiatives were often aided by personal connections, friends, or guided by mentors

I tell this story in my book, but when I was in my early forties, I wanted to transition from being a creative director/copywriter into the world of content strategy. Thanks to a former boss, hiring me yet again into a new agency and believing I could do the job I was able to make the transition in one quick sweep. That wouldn’t have happened without having known my former boss for over a decade and staying in touch all those years. Connecting as deeply as you dare with the people you work with is never a wasted effort You never know where interesting invites and opportunities will come from or who might end up being someone you cherish

As a corporate trainer, what are some trends you are seeing not only in companies but also in schools and universities?

Right now is a really unique time in the marketplace

Some companies are bracing for a potential market contraction, while others are still focused on expansion. As a result, companies are looking for different types of support, ranging from dealing with burnout to boosting performance and requesting proposal (RFP) win rates.

I love helping companies boost their client connections, which leads to more sales and wins. I do that through powerful storytelling training and one on one coaching, which helps anyone really be their most effective selves. This weeklong training is the crown jewel of my corporate trainings.

Additionally, to help with performance and reduce burnout, I offer leadership teams access to Positive Intelligence training backed by the New York Times Best Seller by Shirzad Charmine I believe there are many powerful ways to shift our work and personal lives away from anxiety or stress into productive sage behavior Helping leadership teams better understand their personal saboteurs or the aspects of their personalities that reduce their effectiveness supports amazing results.

I have been speaking at universities for several years, and they regularly ask me to talk about salary negotiation and the power of networking

Talking about the power of your network throughout your life and career was one of the insights that sparked the writing of my book, The Big Power of Tiny Connections I really believe that we can change the lives of everyone we meet, and the people we meet, in turn, have the ability to change our lives as well It may not always be in some major way, but you never know how something you say will spark someone

You are also an executive coach for women. Do you have a specific niche you focus on?

I coach high net worth women who are struggling to navigate the burden of wealth and privilege so they can live with more joy, purpose, and clarity

Many women inherit money or marry into wealth, and our society can be pretty unkind concerning how we judge this type of experience

P R E T T Y W O M E N H U S T L E C O V E R S T O R Y Lashunda Denby

www.ShunMeanBusiness.com

Lashunda Denby is a master coach, TV producer, entrepreneur, gospel recording artist, best selling author, community servant.

Lashunda is passionate about fulfilling the assignment that God has given her to empower everyone to exercise their gift(s) and use them in the spirit of excellence and to educate others on how to manage their money and obtain wealth by using strategic methods within the community.

The most courageous thing I’ve done was leaving my “9 to 5” to go full time into entrepreneurship I have worked in public service for a decade, and I grew over time to the point that I had outgrown where I was and needed more God told me to leave, and I immediately put in my resignation I obeyed the Lord and never looked back! I must admit, I was scared, but God told me, “It is imperative that you understand how powerful you are, how special you are, and what you carry Most importantly, who carries you ME!”

What inspired your interest in Christian entertainment and writing?

My purpose is seeing, experiencing, and being a vital part of the personal, professional, and spiritual growth and development of people Music, ministry, and business have always inspired me in the industry

When did you realize you had a gift that would soon become your ministry?

Proverbs 18:16 is a powerful statement that reveals the answer: “A man ’ s gift makes room for him” (NKJV) What you were designed to be known for is your gift God has given every person a gift or talent that the world will make room for It is this gift that will enable you to fulfill your vision

18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may [a]establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
Deuteronomy 8:18

My grandmother taught me how to sing, serve, and lead in the church at a young age, and it stuck with me When I was a baby “in diapers,” my grandmother said that when I would cry, she would say to me, “No baby, that’s not the right key You got to sing it like this Ohhhh (singing)!” She says I would stop crying every time, and I’ve been singing ever since I started singing in the choir at the age of three Over the years, I develop my vocal abilities in my adolescent stage I won numerous awards (best female vocalist in one of my choral battles/competitions) I discovered in my adulthood that I wanted to take my gifts to another level I started writing poems in my younger years (one poem of which was published) I continued singing and writing as a young adult and eventually started recording professionally Everything I’ve experienced in my journey has ultimately gotten me to where I am now

What message do you hope your audience takes away from their encounter with you?

I want to let everyone know that nothing in life is easy We are all in need of God’s grace and mercy I want to convey my journey in rising above obstacles, praising God despite hurts, and allowing God to heal me and remind me that love conquers all I want them to encounter Christ and know that they are loved and can conquer.

How do you balance ministry and entrepreneurship alongside your family life?

Alignment is very important. You must put everything in proper perspective. My family is my ministry first. Therefore I govern myself accordingly. I make sure that my family is taken care of. Cooking and meal prep as needed to make sure everyone eats. Having a day each week to clean and do the laundry. Having special quality time with my spouse and immediate loved ones I have a calendar of my daily task for my personal and professional space, and it keeps me on track It can be challenging at times because life happens However, you stay balanced by knowing when to pivot

What has been the highlight of your career thus far?

I am grateful to network with ministries, business and ministry related magazines, newspapers, TV stations, and radio stations,” considering I have been featured in several albums and have been afforded the golden opportunity to work with a Grammy award winning producer The immeasurable musical gifts God has given me are steadily attracting the attention of the mainstream media

Therefore, bringing more individuals to Christ As for my latest project, which has generated an array of favorable reviews, I deem it especially intriguing, considering it depicts a memorable moment of my life

What does your self care and alone time with God currently look like amidst your busy schedules? It’s imperative now more than ever to take care of yourself Spiritually, physically, and mentally It took some time to get this schedule down, but now I’m consistently in the swing of things I base my schedule off of these three things:

Faith Fitness Fun

I get up very early in the morning to start getting ready to work out During this time, I am in devotion Whether singing, listing to or quoting scripture, or listening to a sermon On my way to working out, I listen to the word, affirmations, and music I typically work out for an hour or so I always start the day by acknowledging who created me so I can create the day I want to have After working out, I get ready to begin my workday

Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to share with us?

Yes! Absolutely! I have numerous launches coming The nearest launch is my EP entitled “Fix my crown. ”

What song from your most recent project speaks to you most in this current season and why? The song from my new single, “What a friend,” really touches me. This song is very personal. I recall, like yesterday, a rather notable and memorable trial that essentially served as a defining moment, of sorts, in my rising gospel singing career. In fact, it was just the spiritual bulletin material I needed to fuel her fervent drive to press and navigate toward my destiny I was told a few years ago by a family member that I was not on a level to be able to sing at Popular ministry that my voice was for “smaller churches ”

What does being a Church Girl mean to you?

I still have my “life notes” and uphold the values I learned in church Being a church girl is a lot of pressure Why? Because people hold you to a different standard I don’t mind being held accountable, but I do mind being assessed unfairly by unrealistic expectations and assumptions Someone helped me to be a positive light, and I want to help the next generation get ahead and be well Not to mention, help them to defy seemingly insurmountable odds

WHAT WIS HAT WIS HAT IS YOUR YOUR YOUR DEFINITION DOF EFINITION DOF EFINITION OF A A A PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY WOMAN WWHO OMAN WWHO OMAN WHO HUSTLES? HUSTLES? HUSTLES?

The Bible says: “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in heaven ”

A Pretty Woman Who Hustles uses her God given talent or ability, which allows her to do service for others that will benefit her mission on earth Her gifts and abilities or skills are divinely provided with a special purpose Spiritual gifts are to build up, inspire, and support When she serves, she shines!

What lessons do you take with you as you continue your entrepreneurial journey? Always remember your purpose (your why) that will fuel your passion This will allow you to keep the momentum, to continue to develop and grow in every aspect of your life

When did you develop your passion for writing and sharing inspirational words with your audience?

I developed my passion for writing when I was 11 years old I wrote a poem called “The Lonely Pet ” I was being bullied at school, and I began to write to express my pain I wrote my first book in my late 20s after I recovered from a kidnapping and sexual assault. I realized that my story could help those still hurting from trauma I wanted to tell others that just because you became a victim doesn’t mean you have to stay a victim for the rest of your life

How did your experience growing up in the church as a Pastor’s daughter shape your entrepreneurial and faith journey today?

My entrepreneurial and faith journey began when I witnessed my parents pouring their own money into keeping the lights on at church I wanted to be an entrepreneur to show that people of faith do good things with their money, such as building hospitals and wells, helping struggling families, and giving to charity. I could do none of those things with no money I wanted to show the youth in our church that a drug dealer should not be more blessed than a preacher Doing good does pay off in this life

You have written several books. Can you share the message that remains true in all of your work?

Each book contains messages of hope, tragedy, and triumph. Each of my books has a main character that is traumatized in some way but ultimately finds peace through faith in God. My books take the readers on a journey of inner healing and resolving their past issues

Where do you hope to see your work and platform in the next 3 5 years?

In the near future, I hope to become an award winning author and motivational speaker on a national level I hope that my story of overcoming trauma through my faith will help millions of people find a resolution with their own traumatic past I would also love to write and speak for a living as well.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

I believe that beauty is from the inside out I think our society focuses so much on outer beauty and not enough on having a beautiful heart. A Pretty Woman who hustles shows her inner beauty and lets her light shine from within She is not afraid to work hard for herself and her family. She hustles to use her God given talent to make her own way

MEET AWARDWINNING WRITER/PERFORMER, PRODUCER, AND FOUNDER OF MAKE YOUR OWN BREAK

JENNIFER LIEBERMAN

Make Your Own Break was founded by Award Winning Writer/Performer and Producer Jennifer Lieberman to help writers and performers realize their creative goals by providing the tools to learn how to produce independent productions with little to no resources

After years of pounding the pavement and knocking on doors with no success in breaking into the entertainment industry, Jennifer decided to take matters into her own hands and created the solo show Year of the Slut.

This show proved to be her break, and the play went on to win the Audience Choice Award in New York City and is now the #1 Amazon Best Selling novel, Year of the What? and was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2022 Global Book Awards for Coming of Age Books and the 2022 IPPY Bronze Medal for Romance/Erotica eBooks.

Since deciding to make her own break, Lieberman has appeared in over 30 international stage productions,

The ADDiva Network is online at http://addiva.net

produced over 40 independent film and theater productions, and helped over 100 creatives make their own break through her coaching and consulting work

She has penned many stage and screenplays, and her short films have screened at the Festival de Cannes Court Métrage among other international festivals She is currently gearing up to direct her first feature film

What does a day in the life of Jennifer Lieberman look like?

This is a tough one because I’m only on a regular routine while on a project, and each one varies drastically as the hats rotate from writer to producer to actor.

My morning routine is my saving grace It helps create a sense of consistency daily: 2 3 hours every morning where I can focus on yoga, meditation, reading and allot time towards long term goals that still need consistent follow up but not at the forefront. This is the time I make sure I do the things I don’t want to let slide no matter what: taking care of my body and my mind is #1

Scripts take anywhere from months to years to perfect Once ready, it’s more months to years to raise funds and put the team together and more months to execute the project, so it’s common to have several projects all moving forward at different stages. These few hours in the morning also allow me to check in on my long term ventures The rest of the day is then spent focused on the project or tasks at hand for the current gig

Tell us about Make Your Own Break

After the success of my first project, I took a few business classes to level up my game Now that I’d stepped up a level in my career, I needed to get a handle on the business side of things

I learned that living life as a freelance creative, I am my business, and I had to start conducting myself as such In these classes, I also realized that I could help my peers achieve the same thing I did: give myself that golden opportunity to showcase what I was made of in a tailor made show instead of waiting for someone else to hand that opportunity to me

I knew I could help other frustrated out of work actors and writers create vehicles for themselves…with little to no resources, resources being the #1 thing stopping people in all industries from “going for it” whatever “it” happens to be for them

Tell us about Amazon’s #1 Bestseller, Make Your Own Break: How To Record & Publish Your Audiobook in Seven Simple Steps.

During the OG lockdown of 2020, I recorded my novel into an audiobook in my closet I made some pretty huge mistakes that weren’t prevalent until I recorded the entire book and edited the audio Yeesh, I had to trash the first go and start from scratch That’s when my friend Stacy (www.thememoirmidwife.com) suggested I write a how to book to help other indie authors avoid my mistakes So I did

Your #1 Amazon Best Selling novel, Year of the What? was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2022 Global Book Awards for Coming of Age Books and the 2022 IPPY Bronze Medal for Romance/Erotica eBooks. What led you to this novel?

Year of the What? is an adaptation of my award winning solo show, Year Of The Slut. This is the project I created as a showcase piece to show what I was made of I wrote it, produced it, and played 10 characters This show was the first big break of my career. This is also the production that led me to the business classes, where I decided to start the company Make Your Own Break. The show won an award at a festival in New York City, and many friends and colleagues encouraged me to adapt it into a novel, so I did I gave up many times (this is where that persistence I mentioned before became important) It took many years of getting jazzed, running out of steam, focusing on something else, then returning to it Finally, I got it to the finish line and the title was an issue and got flagged with every single ad I tried to buy on Amazon and all social media This was a huge issue, and finally, after a year and a half, my friend Stacy convinced me to change the title And here we are with 5 literary awards “What’s in a name?” Touché Mr Shakespeare, touché

What is next?

I’m thrilled to have several projects on the go and finally be back in action after an almost 2 year pandemic hiatus. We are in post production for my latest short film, The Vegan Fairy, directed by my long time collaborator, Dan Nastro, who was just nominated for his first Emmy (way to go, Dan!) We are also in the development stages of my feature film script, a racy dramatic romance There are a few more things, but I’m not quite ready to talk about them yet

How did your company, Diva Hair Box, get its start?

Diva Hair Box was conceived out of frustration I was frustrated with the inconvenience of traveling to a hair supply store and the inconvenience of being serviced by workers who did not look like me or could relate to my hair needs

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

My definition of a pretty woman who hustles is not dependent upon a woman ’ s physical attributes but it is dependent upon her character A pretty woman who hustles is beautiful on the inside and outside, a woman who is kind, gracious, and compassionate, a woman who is a leader, a visionary, and a boss A woman who is not afraid to go after her dreams and conquer her fears A woman who gets out of bed, even when she doesn’t feel like it A woman who stands when all else has failed, a woman with tenacity, hunger, and pride, a business mind, and a provider A woman who understands the hustle isn’t just for her but for the pride that follows.

Helping Others Pursue Excellence. Her mission is to be a conduit of healing, change, and transformation, providing women with the tools necessary to be F I T (Fully Invested in Transformation) in all areas of their life.

She is dedicated to inspiring and empowering women to discover their passion, define their purpose, and use both to create the life they most desire As a survivor of divorce, depression, anxiety, and low self esteem, she has become a conduit of change, with a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and expertise in the power of personal transformation She embodies the belief that one can transform their entire life by simply training their mind. She has used health and fitness to not only demonstrate this change in her own life but also in the lives of others, as she shares the principles she’s learned along the way. She infuses the art of building physical muscle with the concept of personal growth and development to create a paradigm shift in all areas of life She has discovered three simple things that any individual can control that will literally change the trajectory of their life

It is her desire to redefine fitness. She will often be heard saying, “Fitness is more than just about losing weight and looking good; it’s less about reshaping your body and more about rewiring your mind. Your appearance and the life you create are just the bonuses earned by all the hard work ” She currently resides in Charlotte, NC, with her three beautiful daughters

To learn more Just Another Girl: @iamjagfit

What inspired your start in health and life coaching?

I became a speaker to share my story with the world because I recognized the impact transformation had on my life I became a coach so I would have the distinct opportunity to personally guide women through the process of transformation, equip them with the necessary tools, and create the life they most desired.

As a professional athlete with years of experience, can you share how this part of your life pours into your entrepreneurial journey?

Fitness was the vehicle I used 12 years ago to heal some very deep wounds of insecurity, low self esteem, depression, and anxiety that I’d carried with me silently for years I was also facing my second divorce at that time, living in a city with no family, raising three beautiful daughters, 10, 3, and 2, and clueless about who I’d become, let alone how to move forward So, when I began my fitness journey, I did so out of a need to redirect so very negative energy into a positive place It became my therapy Fitness gave me a safe space to release worries, fears, and frustrations, and I was beginning to look amazing As I continued, I began to feel myself getting stronger physically, emotionally, and mentally. It seemed that with every weight I lifted, a link in the chain of low self esteem, depression, and anxiety was shattered, and new links of confidence and self assurance were being built The gym had become my sanctuary A place where I could retreat from the world and gain strength From that, I began redefining fitness because I discovered a distinct correlation between building physical muscle and mental, emotional, and spiritual muscle. So, I began using the concepts to heal my heart and create a new life

We traditionally think of fitness as just losing weight and looking good, which is partially correct. But true fitness is less about reshaping the body and more about rewiring the mind The rewiring of the mind allows us to understand that a level of mental fortitude is necessary to create lasting change The body you create is just the bonus of all the hard work

I impart what I’ve learned to women so that they become stronger for themselves, their families, and their communities

What has been the most rewarding part of your career thus far?

The most rewarding part of my journey right now is watching all the hard work I’ve put into healing, changing, and transforming my life manifest into the life I have dreamed of living Secondly, it is sharing my journey with others and inspiring them to do the same

What life lessons do you carry with you?

Trust God!

Be kind to others because you never know when you’ll need it back.

People’s opinions of you, good, bad, or indifferent, will change, so stay true to who you are

We all have cellulite, so love your body

Trust your instinct

Love yourself first.

Trouble doesn’t last always

People will do what they have to do when they have to do it

You are stronger than you think.

Time doesn’t heal all wounds

You must do the work to heal

What message do you hope your clients take away from their experience with you?

I want to impart to anyone I have the pleasure of encountering that I am just one of many planted seeds in their lives. And that I come to reflect one of three things: I come to reflect where you ’ ve been, where you are, or where you ’ re going And it is up to you to recognize the exchange, glean all you can from it and move onward and upward in your journey

Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3 5 years?

It is my mission to see I am JAG (Just Another Girl) become a global brand and movement that supports and recognizes all women who are FIT (Fully Invested in Transformation) I seek to build a community of women from all walks of life who embrace the notion that transformation is the key to optimal success in life and that it is an ever evolving path So, prepare for the JAGFIT (Just Another Girl Fully Invested in Transformation) conferences, workshops, and city tours It’s going to be epic!

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

NY Times Bestselling Author, Tosca Lee

Tosca Lee is the New York Times bestselling author of eleven novels, including The Line Between, A Single Light, The Progeny, The Legend of Sheba, and Iscariot. Her work has been translated into seventeen languages and optioned for TV and film. She is best known for her nuanced prose, unexpected points of view, meticulous research, and high octane thrills

To learn more about Tosca and her books, please visit: www.toscalee.com

Your books are religiously themed and sometimes controversial. What inspired you to write, The Line Between?

The story was inspired by real headlines, scarily enough. In 2017, I took a short list of favorite ideas to a meeting with my publisher in New York City One of the ideas was a pandemic story based on a news article I’d read about a reindeer carcass infected with anthrax that thawed in the melting Siberian permafrost.

It made a nearby village sick, and a young boy died I found this idea terrifying, especially as I continued reading more articles about ancient bacteria and so called “zombie microbes” lying dormant for so many years in permafrost that is melting worldwide today

Another idea on the list I took to my meeting was simply a premise about a young woman who has just been expelled from the doomsday cult she grew up in. I wondered what it might be like to start over in a secular “outside” world one had been taught to regard as evil

My publisher suggested I put these two ideas together The result was The Line Between.

Tell us about cult escapee Wynter. She’s a normal girl from Chicago growing up in an Iowa religious community A young woman who questions the beliefs she’s not supposed to question and feels like an outsider for doing so

PWH AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT

PWH AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT

I’d say the result is that she’s more of a dichotomy in the story she’s someone with a very pragmatic side and a sense of humor who knows nothing about how to survive in the outside world (including how to use a smartphone) and yet has to learn to make her way in a world quickly spiraling out of control in an effort to help save it

Have you always had a vivid imagination?

Haha, yes. After seeing Star Wars, I used to believe earnestly believe that Luke Skywalker was coming for me in his landspeeder As a kid of the 70s, I was addicted to the Isis/Shazam Power Hour, Wonder Woman, reading science fiction anything like that I loved fairy tales, books on records (we didn’t have them on tape yet) and running from imaginary monsters

There are running themes in A Single Light action, conspiracy, and romance. What did you enjoy the most about writing this book?

Great question I was very surprised by a character named Otto in this book I knew he would come along and what his purpose would be, but I didn’t realize until I got to him that he was non verbal and very, very funny He has become my favorite non historical character I’ve ever written. My best memories of writing A Single Light were laughing at 3am in the morning at my desk as I wrote his scenes

Will The Line Between and A Single Light be in negotiations for a film deal?

Yes, in fact, they were before Covid showed up, which put them on the back burner It seems not everyone is ready for a pandemic series quite yet!

MENTAL HEALTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Mental Health is something we as a country tend to look past altogether. We do not consider that our children can suffer. Our spouses can suffer. Our parents can suffer, and lastly, we can suffer. The truth behind Mental Health seems to be taboo when therapy is considered a solution. Therapy among our men is something that everyone is “hush mouth” about. Men suffer as much as anyone regarding their mental health, but no one seems to care. When the women are suffering, it seems as if no one is even there.

An estimated 46.6 million adults aged 18 or older in the United States have any mental illness (AMI)

The prevalence of AMI was higher among women (22.3%) than men (15.1%).

Young adults aged 18 25 years had the highest prevalence of AMI (25 8%) compared to adults

The prevalence of AMI was highest among the adults reporting two or more races (28 6%), followed by White adults (20 4%) The incidence of AMI was lowest among Asian adults (14.5%) (Michele, 2022) .

www.reallygreatsite.com Hello@reallygreatsite.com
Approximately 18 9% of all U,S adults have any mental illness.

Let’s take a moment to analyze how many individuals actually suffer from mental health illnesses Just in the United States alone, 1 in 5 individuals is suffering Some may know they are suffering, and some may not know because they have yet to be diagnosed. As the world is filling up more and more with entrepreneurs we find ourselves running into more who battle with their mental health illnesses Entrepreneurship is tough enough on its own for both women and men; now, we are placing Mental Health in the equation, and a lot of entrepreneurs are struggling. They aren’t able to balance both their mental health, physical health, spiritual health, and emotional health It is becoming too much to handle and too much to fit on their plates Shining light on EVERYTHING entrepreneurs have to handle is quite a lot Especially women entrepreneurs, because we must fight extra hard to find a place in dominant industries Having to also fight the constant battles of mental illness flare ups can cause stress in entrepreneurs’ lives These flare ups or lack of concern about mental health issues can cause business owners to lose their drive and businesses and possibly lose sight of the future.

There are plenty of ways to assist with Mental Health, but we must be aware of those who suffer from Mental Health illnesses We must be empathetic We must be sympathetic and learn how to assist before it’s too late No longer should it be taboo to discuss Mental Health in every community and even discuss therapeutic options as a means toward a healthy solution We should come together to assist all of our sisters and brothers who need advocates We should be their voices when they are mentally too weak to be their own Understanding how strong the Mental Health community needs to be and how strong it should be will provide us with the basic foundation needed Understanding that sometimes taking that “Mental Health Day” may be more beneficial than toughing it out and ignoring the signs

Knowing one ’ s triggers and how the mind works will allow for solutions to be executed. We are a community that can only be as strong as we allow We must shine more light and gain more knowledge on Mental Health and Mental Health among entrepreneurs Maybe then, brighter days will occur amongst those constantly experiencing cloudy days.

JACQUIE HAMILTON

Jacquie Hamilton, author of the inspirational autobiography, I NEED THEE, is a 41 year old mother of three beautiful children and two handsome grandsons. She’s a resident of Greenville, Al Jacquie is an educator in the Butler County School system at Greenville Middle School She holds a few titles, which include author/poet, business owner (Just J’s Events), nonprofit founder (Joining Jalen’s Fight), president of a women ’ s empowerment group (Sparkle and Shine), and youth ministry leader in her church (Indian Hill.)

In Jacquie’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, working on crafts, or just doing things in her community Jacquie has been inspired by poets and activists such as Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes A fun fact about Ms. Hamilton is that she can recite the famous I HAVE A DREAM speech by Dr Martin Luther King Jr in its entirety! More books, poems, and great work are in her future

Tell us about your autobiography, I NEED THEE.

I’ve worked in the school system since 2008, and I’ve come across many students. I make it my business to build a relationship with each and every last one Even students that aren’t in my classroom gravitate toward me, and that really makes me feel special. I have conversations with them, take them out to eat, take them to church, make Tik Toks, and do whatever I need to do to earn their respect because that’s important. Most of the time, they open up to me but sometimes, I see the 11 year old me! The scared me! The introvert me! I want help, but I’m afraid me! Seeing these signs made me aware that what happened to me still exists. When you share your story, you gain a different level of respect Reading things with an autobiographical context is something that can clasp someone emotionally. It’s a great way to connect with others!

NEED THEE is a faith based expression that we use when we need help or need to be rescued! In my autobiography, I tell a story of a normal happy, fun, and beautiful little girl. A little girl who loved being around her family until being around one family member wasn’t so fun anymore A little girl who became traumatized by a life changing event and ultimately went into a shell

A little girl who no longer trusted a soul and felt alone. Family reunions were more like torture; being off to herself in her room was her only safe place A little girl who hated herself and felt dirty, and even though she had done nothing wrong, she felt like she was on a long term punishment I NEED THEE tells how this same little girl grew up to be a woman with a very strong faith in God and turned her pain into purpose! She could finally reclaim the power she had lost all those years ago

PWH AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT
When did you realize you had a message that needed to be shared with the world?

I want women to know that pain is inevitable, bad things will happen, but you can overcome anything You don’t have to keep the secret of your predator; you can tell someone. I hope women all over the world know that they are beautiful beings, and no matter what the circumstances are, when they walk into a room, go in like God sent them there! You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them

PWH AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT

The first time I held my very own book in my hand, I cried! I recorded myself opening the package in my living room, sitting in front of the Christmas tree because it was the best gift I could have gotten I also wanted my readers or potential readers to share the experience with me I was finally able to share my story. No more private battles or feeling inadequate. It was my life in a book, in my hand, and it was the good, the bad, and the ugly It was my truth I felt like I had control of a situation that had been eating away at me, and this book would lead to breaking generational curses

What is next for you? Where do you hope to see your autobiography next?

I hope to start doing some motivational speaking! Right now, that’s my focus and my goal I want to go into schools and have book studies with a small group of teenage girls. I also want to start a women ’ s mentoring program in prisons because many of their stories are similar to mine and may even be why they are there. I want to give them hope and let them know they can turn their lives around I want to see my book turned into a movie or play! I want the whole world to know and love the name Jacquie Hamilton and have a copy of my autobiography, I NEED THEE, in their personal libraries

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

As an educator, I researched the definition of every word in Pretty Women Who Hustles A pretty woman is good looking in a fairly ordinary way and has a nice face A hustling woman is independent, makes her own money, and feeds herself and her family These women are known as true winners and have swag, basically female ballers A woman is an adult female!

Prior to adulthood, a female woman is referred to as a girl So what is my definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles? Well me!! I’m not a baller because I have money, though I’m a baller because I have knowledge in my head and God in my heart! What I possess can’t be taken away from me by anyone I know what my purpose is Ministering to the youth, bringing awareness to sexual assault, autism awareness, healthy relationships with parents, choices and consequences, teen pregnancy, self image, self love, and so much more! I also know that I’m only pretty on the outside if I’m pretty on the inside But I’m definitely a woman! The girl version of Jacquie is gone She’s standing up for herself now!
