TOUCH

WITH DEMESHIA HYMAN

Demeshia Hyman is an award winning hairstylist, that started her journey in cosmetology in 1996. She became licensed in 2001 and opened up her own salon, Platinum Touch Salon on September 1, 2009. She was blessed to receive her salon right in the middle of the recession. Which gave her the power to have GREAT FAITH AND PERSERVER, no matter what it looks like. She went on to expand her brand by becoming a MUA, freelance photographer, fashion consultant and creative director on various productions over her 11 year spand of owning her own salon. In 2019 God told her to write a book. She again inserted GREAT FAITH AND PERSERVERSNCE to achieve this assignment & goal. As the world began to shut down to Covid-19, It gave her the time she needed to finish her manuscript, The Degree of Mastering Yourself! How did you get your start in doing hair? I got started in 1996 in Honolulu, Hawaii. I was a junior in high school and I wasn’t able to go the hair salon and because I cared about my appearance, I started taking care of and styling my hair. My mother’s friends would stop me after school and ask who did my hair? I would constantly tell them “ I styled my hair myself. “ This went on for months, until a couple of her friends offered to pay me to do their hair. So I did. My mother came home amazed to see her friends cars parked outside and them sitting on my bed getting their hair styled. That gave me the confidence to start charging to style hair during high school, to my peers. I was successful because black stylist were very limited out there. Eventually after high school I went to school and got my license to professionally do hair. Before then I thought I was going to be a detective. However hairstyling fell in my lap so easily. Doing hair solved a problem for me and helped me earn money. How has your life changed during your career? I finished beauty school in 2001. It only took me 11 months vs. the average 2 years it takes most people to complete school. I worked in a few different salons before being able to open up my own salon in the middle of a recession in 2009. That’s when my career elevated and I discovered how resilient and motivational I am, when speaking to people. I strived to shine people up from the inside out. What do you love most about doing hair? What I love most about doing hair is the transformation and the impact from our conversations of inspiration and trials. What has been your greatest lesson during your journey? My greatest lesson during my journey is being my authentic self and remaining teachable. Tell us about your book "The Degree of Mastering Yourself"? The Degree of Mastering YOURSELF, was also birthed out of me to solve a problem. It came about during my recent bout of depression. I discovered how to truly fill my voids and have self-worth outside of having tangible things. I teach and share how to discover your true internal value even during a crisis and how to master yourself to have a greater abundance of life. What message do you hope readers gain from your work? The message I want readers to know is that EVERYTHING in your life from childhood to adulthood is obviously things you survived in whether good or bad and it is important to heal and deal. I present strategic ways to end up on the path of truth, authenticity, harmony, creativity and true love for the reader.

MOTIVATION MANIA!

By LaToya Wilson

As women, we have so many things that we juggle in life: jobs, kids, and family life we do it all. Motivation to get our dreams and goals moving is put on the back burner often. It's not that we don't have them. We do not have the time to focus on them. Motivation, by definition, is the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. Mania, by definition, is an excessive enthusiasm or passion, an obsession. The word DESIRE plays a prominent role in both definitions. We have to desire to attain our goals and ambitions for them to manifest. Motivation Mania is the new mantra for the rest of 2020! Get crazy with attaining your goals! Write that book! Start that class! Give that speech! Reach out to others who can help you get to the next level of your desires. Faith without works is dead, says the Good Book! Allow yourself to leave your comfort zone for just a moment to level up! Motivation Mania! Scream it loud and shout it proud! Claim it! Obtain it! This is YOUR YEAR SIS and many more to follow. Using Perspective During These Uncertain Times BY

CHAUNDRA

SCOTT

Perspective is key when visualizing your current practice and future goals. The pandemic is forcing business women to examine their practices in a deeper frame. For some the pandemic may have caused a halt while others may be flourishing in positive aspects.

The difference is learning to pivot instead of pausing in

uncertain times. Yes, the entire world is undergoing changes that no one expected; however this time can also be a cause for celebration and growth. This new normal is allowing women to calculate their family time, relationships with others and entrepreneurial leadership methods. Many are seizing the day in creating long standing dreams. Those unfinished projects are now being sought after more closely; and new methods of crowdfunding are being handled courageously. Now that most are working from home they have the opportunity to manifest their dreams into fruition. I understand that this time has created unemployment for some. However, it’s all in how you view it. This pause can allow you to dive deeper into your creative space. Many are using their time at home to think, arrange, create and master new plans that they never would have had the opportunity to do. In order to enjoy the power in your pivot, consider these items:

-Be flexible and willing to adjust. Nothing is the same and you must adapt to your new surroundings with open arms. Embrace change and let go of rigid forms of thinking. -Explore new opportunities. You may not be tech savvy but Zoom, Google Meets and Microsoft Teams are going to be some of your new best friends. Don’t shy from it, embrace it. Research it, attending training sessions and gear up for success. -Finish your outstanding projects. Whether it’s that craft idea or new recipes; get it done. There is literally no time like the present. Use this pandemic to your advantage. Make new connections. Join new social media groups, extend some positivity to a co-worker or even call an old friend. Now is the time to build relationships and make lasting connections. Building rapport is a legendary skill that must always be re-visited. -Strategize. If you’re an entrepreneur, think of new ways to reach your consumers. Community events are postponed and some inventory shipping may be delayed but your business shouldn’t stop there. Pivot your platform to meet the needs of your consumers. -Pivot, don’t pause. That’s right, the days ahead may frustrate some but do not pause or stop. Never give up. Always continue striving forward to manifest your dreams, career moves and more. Outline your new path for greatness. Use this time to re-evaluate your circumstances to align your life for the better. If the pandemic ends soon your motivation for success should still continue.

You should come out on top with a new outlook for

growth. This is your season to conquer your dreams. Writer, C. Scott, is a mother of one; author, social worker, early literacy interventionist and entrepreneur. Follow her on Instagram as @curls_coils and @mysweettealife.

SPOTLIGHT

ANDREA MOORE Andrea A. Moore is a Midwife to Women with a story, Grief Expert, Anthology Builder, Speaker, International Author. Andrea is the mastermind behind diverse purpose-driven businesses. From Grief to Grind a platform for siblings and women who have suffered a loss and are ready to delegate their feelings by journaling, coaching, or becoming a published author to M.A.D. (Mindsetccomplishments Destiny) about your business which is a lifestyle platform for women in Businesses who are ready to uplevel their business through collaboration.

From Grief to Grind.

What inspired your start in writing? I have always been a writer since I can remember. I wrote my very first speech at age 8 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream speech." after that I journaled often until high school. I stopped doing what I loved for whatever reason. However by 21 I started again and it was much needed. I was angry a lot and that was my way to release and it helped become a better person. I stopped writing again when my sister was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. In the past 5 years what has inspired me to write was losing my only sister to Breast Cancer. What is the passion behind your well known Grief Summit? My passion behind my Grief Summits is a mixture of things. Not only losing my only sister to Breast Cancer but the losses I faced after that. Loss of home, Loss of business, Marriage became rocky, I lost myself in grief and while married, I lost my parents the day my sister left, and I lost hope, peace, and faith. I remember how I felt as a sibling griever I felt alone as hell. As a wife who was watching her husband grieve his mother. I couldn't seek support because I had to be strong. I had to this and I had to do that. I couldn't Cry. I had no release. That is what pushes me to do my grief summits because I want to provide support, be the shoulder to cry on, be the foundation that can hold others up, provide tips to the grivers and friends who are being a support to the grievers out there, and continue to be a vessel for the creator.

CULTIVATING A DEEPER UNION WITHIN YOURSELF AFTER YOUR LOSS!

"Stepping into our light is one remarkable thing. As we know it may take some pain to drive us to our purpose."

What can readers expect when attending one of your grief and healing summits?

They can expect clarity as a griever, become more aware of their process, and become less afraid to start healing. The grief and healing summits are meant to be the starting point or the water they need to continue their grief healing. Honestly, sometimes we are aquainted with people who want us to get "over it" and that can bring us to a place of uneasiness and the feeling like we aren't moving fast enough. For the record grief doesn't go away. It ain't a cold. It is a journey. Will grief manifest in different ways, Yes. Can grief push you into a new and unexpected journey, Yes. Can grief send your anxiety up, Yes. Everyones mourning journey is different.

You are known as an anthology builder, tell us about that? One of my gifts that I have ignored is that I can gather women together and we sit back and share our stories. This is something that I would get in trouble for lol. My dad would say "Drea where did you get all these frineds from?" What he didn't know and what we laugh about now is that this very thing I would get in trouble for is one of my many gifts. As an Anthology Builder I gathering women together who have truimph (from tragedy to truimph) stories and I help them craft it, build it, and market it and I also help serial entrepreneurs add this stream of income to their brand by managing it for them or helping them build a strategy for their upcoming book.

What Message do you hope women gain from your platform? What I want women to know is that you can release with no apologies. Your grief is yours and yours only not a soul on this side of glory can tell you how long you should be grieving or what your grief should look like. You will see the truth about support and more about yourself during your mourning journey. In all of that give yourself GRACE. God. Grace. Grief. Grind.

Audria Richmond Audria is a ground breaking marketing guru who teaches brands and creatives on how to challenge the norbs and be the first to do it first. With her grounbreaking technique "UnCloned" Audria helps brand launch profitable one of a kind campaigns.

you realize you had a niche and passion for marketing?

Describe yourself and your brand in four words.

things that made me different from other people who teach

I would say I’m Bold, UnCloned, creative and different. What is something about "Audria" that people won't find online. I love documentaries, spending spare time with my husband . I am really addicted to learning all things that are creative and innovative and has alot to do with marketing.

How did you get started in marketing? I would say I got started in marketing as a result of my businesses not being successful, not because they weren’t good ideas but because I did not know how to put myself in front of new businesses and new people. So, I became curious to learn about marketing, and from there I no longer had to worry about how I get business. Once you have the marketing skill, you can have as many ideas as you want because you never have to worry about how to get people to buy what you have.

What sets you apart from other marketing genius’s, when did When I first got started in marketing, I noticed that one of the marketing is the fact that I am self-taught. I feel like a lot of people that come before me had a lot of book knowledge but not real-world experience. I have tons of real-world experience to pull from and not only that me coming from photography and graphic design background and publishing it gave me a creative edge that most marketers did not have. Typically people who have worked in marketing in the past they have always had a design team or someone to support them getting campaigns to market versus me it was just me so it gave me the flexibility to come up with ideas that I didn’t see other people doing. So, I would say my creativity and my background in graphic design and photography. I realized that I love marketing in particularly it was one of those things that people where teaching but not in a way for people to understand. I feel like I could teach marketing in a way for the average business owner to understand and it wasn’t overwhelming or where they didn’t have to go read a million books to get started with marketing.

From your first book, “Are You Ready for The Yes”, until now, what has changed in your marketing plan? I would say my marketing plans have become bigger as ideas and concepts are concerned. I’m willing to spend more money and I am willing to go bigger with my marketing plans. I have found that my marketing plans are becoming more complicated and more intricate as far as creativity is concerned and I have also noticed my marketing has become more innovative in the sense of not checking for other peoples marketing. I might see someone do a particular marketing tactic or strategy if I feel like I can flip it or innovate it or as I would like to say “UnClone it” it always allowed me to have a unique edge that you don’t see with other people. A lot has changed with my marketing because I keep moving the bar every time I launch a new marketing campaign. What does it truly mean to be Uncloned in your life and brand? To be UnCloned, means to challenge the norm. To be the first to do it first. It also means, to own your own shit and own it in a way that people know that you’re not trying to be like other people, it is extremely obvious in the way that you move. I would say that being UnCloned is really about owning who you are and not wavering from it because your trying to fit into societal norms. What advice do you have for someone who has hit a dead spot in marketing their books? If someone has hit a dead spot in there marketing in general not just in marketing their books I would encourage them to revisit there offering which is what they sale and then also be willing to try a different marketing campaign or new way of marketing. I feel like a lot of the times when we see people marketing they don’t have any diversity in there marketing and they pretty much market the same and wonder why people don’t buy from them and it’s because people are constantly seeing the same message the same way your presenting it. I think showing people something you have but in a new way always encourages people to have a fresh look and a new perspective on things. I try to encourage a new way of marketing their products and services by being willing to relaunch in a new way that’s unique and creative.

What are your top five marketing strategies for entrepreneurs?

How is your everywhere?

#1 Know what you sale, really understand what your creating and selling in the marketplace and make sure its something unique. #2 Get to a point where you understand the audience of which your selling your product and services to and be willing to know them intimately. #3 Be open to new ways of marketing and not just sticking to the traditional ways of marketing like just only posting on Instagram and just only using hashtags. Be willing to learn new things as it relates to marketing. #4 Ask for the sale, I do not see a lot of people taking the time to ask for the sale. Do not be afraid to tell people how to buy, where to buy and when to buy. #5 Learning to love your customers and have impactable customer service. When you understand how to treat your customers with Love and respect, not only will they continue to come back and buy from you but they will continue to tell other people about you.

I Believe my brand is impacting communities, entrepreneurs and brands by promoting individuality and getting people back to a place where they love themselves so much that they don’t have to look to others to be validated by their peers, family members, and ultimately society.

How much money should an entrepreneur devote to paid advertisements? I believe entrepreneurs should spend at least 1015% of their revenue back into advertising and marketing. It does not necessarily have to be paid advertising it can be working with influencers, partnerships, foster ships and things like that. But at least give 10-15% of your revenue back into marketing.

Get Curled Up with the Right Curling Cream! By Patrice N. Rivers

My curls are poppin! My curls are too cool! If you want more bounce to your curls, then you got to get the right curl tools! I have been on my natural hair routine for the last three years and as I embark on my fourth year, I am embracing the natural diva crown even more! Ladies if you are thinking about transitioning your mane to natural, I encourage you to try it because it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me! I am always learning new techniques to getting my 4c to curl to a defined curl or getting those sleek edges. If you ever go natural, YouTube will be your best friend! Even though I’m not an expert on styling my own hair in these fancy hairstyles, I still like to try new things. My mane turned into a natural fro’ all on its own and I fell in love with my go-to and signature style. As far as defining curls, not so great because they never came out right when I was doing twist-outs. The texture of my hair isn’t bad, but I still haven’t mastered it yet. Every month I will go to the beauty supply store just to look at different lines of natural hair products and read the ingredients in them. I don’t want my hair falling out, so I’m very particular on what hair care products to buy. New brands I was introduced to were: As I Am, Mielle, Crème of Nature and TGIN. I’ve seen these products before on the shelves, but never really paid them any mind. I’ve been using Cantu products for the last three years and it has been working for my hair. Honestly I can’t really tell the difference so to speak. LOL. Shea butter is a great thing for naturalistas like myself! I’ve heard from other ladies that they hate Cantu and that it doesn’t work for their hair. So far, my kinky hair texture likes it. I decided to browse some more on the internet for more products and natural hairstyles and I came across this article on Cosmopolitan online website about top curling creams for different things. I thought to myself “This is very interesting because I’ve been trying to find some other great curling creams to define my curls” Here is the list of the curling creams and pretty women beauties if you have ever tried some of these, please let me know because I would love to know your experience.

By Patrice Rivers

Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter- Best for Type 4 C hair Best for Volume: As I Am Defining Cream Best for Soft Curls: Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Curl Defining Crème Best for Damaged Hair: Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothies Best for Dry Hair: Pantene Pro-V Gold Series: Curl Defining Pudding Cream Best for Light Weight Curls: Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream Best for Well-Defined Curls: Cantu Coconut Curling Cream Best for Frizz/Flyaways: Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream Best for Hydrating: ORS Curls Unleased Curl Defining Cream Best for Long-Lasting Definition: OGX Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Cream Best for Thick Hair: Amika Curl Corps Defining Cream Best for Non-Flaking: Afro Sheen Texture Gel Cream Best for a Jelly Formula: Curls Blueberry Bliss Control Jelly Best for Humidity Proof: Deva Curl Super Cream Coconut Curl Styler Best for Non-Stiff Hold: Ouidad Curl Quencher Moisturizing Gel

Whew! That was a long list, but I do plan to try at least two other curling creams. With my type 4C hair, most likely I will sample the As I Am brand for volume and since I already have the Cantu one for welldefined curls, I will still continue to use that as well. But for all my bronze beauties that have more experience than I have with curling custards and creams, help a naturalista out! LOL I’m so glad there is a list out there on which curling cream is best for each type we are trying to achieve, so I’m excited to get it another shot at having the bouncy and jelly curls. What Do You Do When The World Around You Is Falling Apart? By Christina Crowder

In March of 2020, school-aged children were released for Spring Break, and the novel Coronavirus stunned the entire planet! It seemed like the world came to a screeching halt, and we were all confined to the tiny corners of our homes. Thousands of Americans lost their jobs and were left without a clue when things would return to normal. With many states implementing mandatory lockdowns, limiting travel, and even large gatherings, many were forced to come face to face with our reality. While some may have taken full advantage of the slower place, others, myself included, were simply at a loss! When talk of the virus initially started circulating, I had high hopes that this would quickly blow over, but I quickly realized that this virus was more severe than anyone could have imagined. There were two months left in the school year, and I inherited the role of a school teacher and a 24-hour child care facility in the blink of an eye. After the first two weeks, I was downright overrun with video calls, incomplete online assignments, and large laundry piles. Getting up and cooking breakfast turned into, "just grab a bowl of cereal!" Pajamas became their unofficial school uniforms, and the same monster that eats your socks had eaten our hairbrushes. My household was in utter chaos! I found myself staying in bed most of the day struggling to complete basic chores. After a month of feeling completely helpless, I realized that being stuck at home and not having the option of enjoying everyday luxuries was weighing heavily on me. Things that I had taken for granted, like going out to dinner with my husband or even going to the grocery store without being absolutely terrified of falling ill, were now foreign to us all. Before I knew it, I was sleeping half of the day, sad for no reason and staying up all night cooking meals with heaping portions and baking desserts for each day of the week - ultimately overfeeding my family. Was I depressed? I read a few online articles and decided to schedule an appointment with my doctor immediately. At first, I felt ashamed because I had allowed the world's pressures to get the best of me, so I didn't tell anyone. I met with my doctor and was surprised to find out that many women had recently experienced the same feelings. My evaluation was detailed, and I had to dig deep to find the answer to many of the doctor's questions honestly, but she informed me that she did not think I was depressed. However, she did recommend that I focus on self-care and find some balance for myself and family. I took her advice and decided to start by putting together a reliable schedule. Each person in the house was assigned a specific role, and the excess of housework shrank immensely. I realized that when I got myself dressed for the day, I felt a sense of purpose and found myself in better spirits, so I made the children do the same. We looked online and found healthy recipes that were easy enough for everyone to be involved in preparing. 9 PM became our bedtime, and we were sure to maintain that time so that we all got a full 8 hours of sleep, and I slowly started to feel like myself again. The last part of the equation was finding time for self-care. As many mothers probably do, I felt selfish taking anything for myself. Reluctantly, I would hide in the closet and eat a candy bar each night after dinner or grab myself a burger if I ran out to the grocery store and eat it in the driveway before taking the groceries inside. Although I felt better, I was not happy. And then it happened. While I was hiding from my family, my daughter opened my closet door and caught me with a mouthful of chocolate! I was so humiliated I couldn't even face her when she asked why I was hiding food and eating it in my closet. No words parted my lips, but tears came rushing down my cheeks, and before I knew it, I was sobbing! I fought to exit the closet, but my legs felt like lead. I was utterly defeated! When I exited the closet, my husband and children stood there with open arms waiting to comfort me. I hugged everyone and decided to speak to my husband after everyone was in bed. Collectively, we decided that an evening stroll and a bubble bath would be a good start to taking a few moments for myself that night. The following morning, I decided to purchase a journal with a planner included. Being able to put my thoughts into words and see them on paper greatly helped manage both my time and stress. I found comfort in trying new recipes, making candles for friends, and exercising. What do you love to do? How do you unwind? Feed your spirit with positivity and keep your faith Take every precaution to stay safe.

Let’s talk about the definition of branding to ensure that you have a solid foundation to base your general understanding! Heads up: We will digger deeper into the different aspects as our journey together continues Perception is basically how we see, interpret, and understand things. It is basically everything that one thinks of you so it’s pretty powerful; so how do you want to be perceived. What is the impression that you want to make and what is it that you want people to remember about their experience with you and your company? What distinguishes you and your product or service offering. What can current and potential clients or customers be able to expect from you confidently and consistently. Of course, your logo, website, colors, theme, photo’s, marketing, advertising, promotions and so on, are important. But we need to slow down and start building on a solid foundation. To really establish a strong, memorable, respected, recommended, and trusted brand start at your reputation both personally and professionally. Matthew 7:24-27 talks about building a house on a solid bedrock so that it can endure storms, winds, and waves. It further discusses how the exact same house with all it is beautiful and fancy features could collapse if built on faulty unestablished ground that is unsteady and not solid. Rock versus Sand – what do you want to build your house on? So, it all starts with you - you are your brand; build yourself up. While you are home in quarantine: • write down your goals. • Build your knowledge with online classes/training • Decide what you want your brand to be • Do some self-evaluation • Dedicate, prioritize, and focus specific uninterrupted time doing and loving you. • Discover, Understand, and face who you are and where you are in your life. • Write out pros and cons about where you see yourself in your life at this moment. • Identify the areas that you need to improve in - admit it and work on it. • Seek the appropriate resources to help, support, teach, encourage, and guide you on your journey to enhance your goals/talents. • Take a moment to do some self-evaluation and a deep personal check in

Ask yourself the following questions: - Are you currently an authentic picture of what you promote? - Are you practicing what you preach and walking your talk? - Is your brand represented fully through you? - Does your brand authentically reflect who you are? - Are you committed to Actively doing the work required to grow and improve in the areas necessary to make you authentic and true to your brand? - Does your brand showcase your talent, knowledge, experience and offering - can you truthfully back it up? Girlfriend be honest with yourself, if you’re not fully representing your brand then you have work to do. But that is totally fine so get excited about the future and let’s get this work. This is your journey girlfriend so pull out the power that you have inside and write your story. Utilize this quarantine-time to work on your goals. grow and strengthen yourself and your brand. Begin building your brand based on a solid foundation of faith, determination, and inner confidence. If you discover that areas in your life are not headed in the direction that you want ~ change your direction! Go a different route, I mean think about it, you are the driver and this is your journey and desired destination. Design the roadmap to success for yourself. Work on yourself diligently. Enhance your talent by applying self-care to continually developing it. Self-care is simply making your personal needs and peace a high priority. Take advantage of the many positive things we can hold on to during these unseen times. You are in quarantine (meaning limited lifestyle), work on you. Study your talent, stand out, go the extra mile for you. You must sell yourself. You are your Brand. Make sure you reflect you. Someone is always watching you. Be better than average by being more disciplined than the average. Stay motivated and encouraged. Look into empowerment techniques. Do the work for your growth and development. You are your brand, rep it girlfriend.

Trina Tips: 1. Do a social media check out once a week. Take a mental break for your own peace and sanity. Remember you become your thoughts, try to do a mind sweep. 1. Apply daily self-care in your everyday life. Spend some time alone (Sit in full peace). There are simple things around the house you can do such as take a bubble bath, light a candle & play some relaxing music. 1. Find an inexpensive hobby. Think of things you that you have been wanting to and you put on hold. Let's make good use of our time at home. For example, start a garden or paint your room. 1. Exercise, make good use of the space you are in. For example, walk up and down the stairs for ten minutes. Do some jumping jack, watch a YouTube workout video. 1. Journal this experience. Write your goals down, create a plan for the next 3, 6 & 9 months. Set an alarm/reminder for these small activities.

If any woman of plus size felt self conscious about herself, they type of clothes available didn't help that. Fortunately I've always felt like I had the sauce.. period!! I love heels, colors, 2 piece swimsuits..you name it! All the things they try to steer is plus size women away from. So fast forward that to this pandemic. Even tho my job wasn't affected but to see something to out of our hands control wether we feed our families or not did something to me. That's when the thought of Kurvii Fetish came to mind. Not jus a 2nd income for me but I believe everyone has a Kurvii Fetish, even if they don't admit it! I wanna provide what they feel we shouldn't wear.. not only step outside the box but walk right over it and be sexy, feel good and comfortable!! To walk in the room and make them whisper.. make them uncomfortable about the positivity you drop while walking with a purpose! FB: Kurvii Fetish LLC Owner: Sara Collins

3. Loyalty K Apparel Loyalty K Apparel was founded in 2020 by Keanu Wade, a 29-year-old female in Conway, AR. The name loyalty comes from the services that are promised to be provided. Our company provides quick shipment and guaranteed satisfaction. The K symbolizes Keanu and her daughter Kaliyah. Apparel was something she would rather use than a boutique so that she is capable of reaching all genders. She is a single mother who wanted to start a legacy for her daughter and overcome living from paycheck to paycheck. While still able to work during the pandemic, the thought crossed her mind “what if I wasn’t able to work? What would I do?” So, the pandemic created a perfect opportunity to launch her business. Keanu started her business with $200 and a prayer, having faith that her business will flourish. She discovered the children's clothing industry was severely lacking in fashionable options. So she created a platform for moms to find great deals for themselves and their families. She soon wants to create a father and son platform offering trendy matching outfit. I attended Florida Career College in Boynton Beach Florida in 2011, but did not complete my term as I gave birth to my now 8 year old daughter Nevaeh. I endured many trails and tribulations over the years but continued to teach myself the art of make up. From reading books, taking classes and practicing I became the MUA I am today and I’m still learning. In 2016 I began working as a Mua in salons, traveling to clients and more. But I knew that was not what I wanted, so once I moved to Savannah Georgia I decided to take a chance and put my all into bringing Chanè Artistry from my dreams to reality. Let’s Talk Cell Talk with Patrice Rivers: Learning the Basics of Sickle Cell Disease September is Sickle Cell Awareness month and it’s that time of year again where churches, communities, advocates gather and webinars are planned to talk about one of the ‘invisible’ diseases called Sickle Cell Disease. The reason why I call it ‘invisible’ because a lot of people all over doesn’t know about this killer disease that is taking the lives of not only people of African descent but some parts of Central America and the Caribbean as well. Because Sickle Cell Disease affects majority of the African American Community, it isn’t really supported or talked about enough like you hear with Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, HIV, AIDS, Lupus and others. Do you know what Sickle Cell Disease is? Let me educate you a little bit about it. My platform and podcast series Let’s Talk Cell Talk with Patrice Rivers educates and promotes the awareness of SCD as well as telling about my life journey living with the disease. What is Sickle Cell Disease? A lot of people may be wondering and some people may even ask “Does it affect me?” The answer may vary depending on family history and genetics. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that attacks the red blood cells. For many people that has the disease, their cells aren’t normal-shaped meaning unlike having a doughnut shaped cell, ‘sickled’ cells are crescent shaped like a banana. When these cells are jammed in the blood arteries, it creates a ‘traffic jam’ causing the cells to stick together and it can cause pain in the joints and lack of oxygen.

How Do Someone Know if They have SCD? Great question! So SCD is a genetic disorder that means it is inherited through both parents. In order for a child to contract the disease, both parents must be carriers of the Sickle Cell Trait (will be explaining that in more detail later) You may be wondering what percent will a child have the actual disease. There is a 25 % chance that a child will have SCD. The other percent will either show that the child can have the Sickle Cell Trait or nothing at all. They have something called a newborn testing where it is basically a simple blood test given at birth to determine if they are a carrier of the hemoglobin gene. Back in the 80’s when I was born, newborn screen testing wasn’t available and my parents at the time didn’t know that they were both carriers of SCD. I didn’t find out I was diagnosed with the disease until the age of one. That is why a blood test is very important. What are Some of the Complications and Treatment of SCD? With SCD you are getting a lot! What I mean by that is there are a lot of things that can go wrong just by having the disease. Fortunately, with me I didn’t experience a whole lot, just the pain and that was enough!

~Hand-foot Syndrome- This is when the hands and feet start to swell because of the red blood cells trying to travel in the tiny blood vessels. Red blood cells need to flow correctly so that they can carry oxygen to different parts of the body. When oxygen stops flowing, it can cause pain or swelling of that sort. When cells don’t flow freely in the hands and feet, they can cause major swelling and a fever as well. ~’Pain Episode’ or ‘Crisis’- Just like with the hand-foot-syndrome, when the cells don’t flow freely throughout the blood vessels, they get stuck and it can cause mild or severe pain. A lot of people that have SCD experience this the most. ~Stroke- The sickle cells can clog up the flow of blood to the brain and can cause a stroke. This can result in long-term disabilities and even learning disabilities. ~Eye Disease- Getting your eyes examined as a person living with SCD is very important and should be done once a year by an ophthalmologist. It can affect the blood vessels in the eyes and can lead to long- term damage. ~Infection- People with SCD tend to have weak immune systems and are prone to getting infections easier than others without weak immune systems. Infants and children are most likely to experience infections such as the flu, meningitis, and hepatitis. HWhat are the Different Types of Treatments for SCD? This is another question that a lot of people may have, especially health professionals, advocates and parents. There some ways that SCD can be treated, however there is no best single treatment. One treatment that a lot of people living with SCD experience is blood transfusions. A blood transfusion is adding blood to your body giving it what it needs. That is one way to treat SCD. Another way is drinking plenty of fluids such as water. A person with SCD does intake more water than the average person. This prevents heat strokes when in highly inclined areas that has hot temperatures. I’m always taking my water bottle or a bottle of water with me just about everywhere I go. Even when I was attending P.E. classes, I needed a written note from my doctor letting the teachers know about my illness and the reason of needing a water bottle. Pain meds is another way to treating SCD as well. If a person has severe SCD like I do, a medicine called Hydroxyurea is prescribed by medical specialists.

Now that I have your attention about what Sickle Cell Disease and who it affects, I hope that this has been a very informative article learning about SCD. Even though there is only one universal cure called a bone marrow transplant, it is also a very risky process as well. The best thing to do is to educate yourself further as to learning more about SCD. There are always different ways you can show your support such as volunteer at your local SCD foundation/association, donating and advocating. I Make Music that Uplifts My Creator.

PRETTY AND MAKING MUSIC

”Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.”

What first got you into music? I’ve been singing in the church from the time I was a small child. My dad is actually a professional guitarist and songwriter himself, and my mother plays the drums. It only made sense that I would grow up loving music. How would you describe the music that you typically create? Typically I create music that just feels good, that anyone could vibe to, no matter who you are or your background. Lately I’ve created inspirational, encouraging music that uplifts heavy spirits and motivates others. I also create music that glorifies my Creator. Who would you most like to collaborate with? If I had the opportunity, I would collaborate with Koryn Hawthorn.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be? If I could open a show for anyone it would be Brandy!! What is one message you hope listeners gain from your music? That God created you in His image and so because of that you should never limit your potential to express whatever he placed inside of you, however that may be. What was your inspiration behind your new song and book "The High Calling"? The inspiration was the freedom I gained after overcoming a marijuana addiction which empowered me to share and write my story. Also, the desire to see others free and delivered from whatever addiction or any distraction attempting to hold them back from reaching their highest calling. What is the best advice you’ve been given in regard to your music? ”Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” You are uniquely you for a purpose and your specific audience may not be the same as the next person. They’re waiting for YOUR sound to be released so they can find you. For that reason don’t focus on your weaknesses, focus on your strengths and polish your weaknesses in the meantime.

What’s next for you? More music, more books, more films... This is only the beginning.

Bonus: How would you describe a Pretty Woman Who Hustle's? A pretty woman who hustles also prays. She understands that she has to rely on the strength of God to balance all the responsibilities He has entrusted her to manage. She is not too pretty to admit where she can improve and is always assessing how she can inspire change in those around her. She is the type of leader that consistently learns and grows on a daily basis. Her hustle is not just in what she does, but who she becomes.
