Intro To: Alté We cannot imagine a day at the office without music as it plays a big part of what we do as the Residency. So we have come up with a list of artists we are currently jamming to and are worth your data and time.
Alté is a youth inspired sub-genre that tackles preconceptions of what African music is and can sound like. The Alté sound draws inspiration from continental and global influences, sonically the
The Nigerian music industry is a fast-growing music market in Africa with the likes of Burna Boy and Wizkid gaining international success and becoming global superstars. However, there is a different sound amongst the youth in Nigeria that influences fashion, music, and culture as a whole.
music has traditional Nigerian influences along with pop-soul, indie, dance, R&B, and hip-hop. At the forefront of the movement is Santi, Odunsi (The Engine), Tay Iwar, Zamir, Nonso Amadi, Lady Donli and Amaarae.
These young artists are responsible for shaping the Alté scene and pushing the boundaries to new heights in terms of African music. Nigerian icon Fela Kuti says, “Music is a weapon of the future/music is the weapon of the progressives/ music is the weapon of the givers of life”. Intro To: Chillhop Music Chillhop is a label and platform based in Rotterdam solely dedicated to releasing chilled hiphop, jazzhop and triphop music and connecting people. All this really means is Chillhop fuzes new ages soundscapes, an eclectic combination of jazz, hip hop and soul. We were introduced to Chillhop Music through DJ Complexion's 'The Future Beats Show' and we have been in a euphoric and melancholic trance in which we have completed absorbed in its vivid sensory soundscapes ever since. Album of The Week: Moonchild - Little Ghost The 6th of September saw the release of the much anticipated album from multi-instrumentalist trio, MOONCHILD. The album weaves through R&B, soul, and jazz - a tried and tested formula for the music we have become accustomed to from the band. Just like the previous album, 'Voyager', we anticipate 'Little Ghost ' to go down as a classic. This album marks the band's third studio album with the label Tru Thoughts. The trio is comprised of, Amber Navran, Max Bryk, and Andris Mattson. Now let us talk about ' little ghosts', the album opens with a powerful song that addresses a woman, ' woman are underestimated, especially woman of clour. I think a wise woman, someone whos dealt with and concurred that feeling, doesn't wait for the opportunities to come to her, she reinvents the game'. Songs like 'The Other Side' give you that warm and fuzzy feeling, I certainly had to take stock of my emotions after listing to that. Before the release of the album, two singles were released, 'Get To Know It’, ‘To Much To Ask’ and 'Money'. Like we said we see this album going down as a classic and is worth your data and time, maybe a lover and a bottle of wine.
