to The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari “ Welcome Islands – embracing the circle of island life. I am truly honoured to introduce the first edition of our monthly news magazine, Sangu. In the ancient Maldives, Conch shells, Sangu, were ceremoniously blown to announce special news in the island communities. Inspired by this beautiful tradition, we have created a magazine, as the voice of the island to share our stories.
Discover the the design story, the inspiration behind the architecture and the holistic philosophy that embraces the Maldives.
The first edition is a tribute to the late Kerry Hill, whose creative vision brought to life The Ritz-Carlton Maldives through design, architecture and philosophy. In the forthcoming months, we will be sharing interesting insights from the resort as we debut the first Ritz-Carlton brand to the Maldives.

THE RITZ-CARLTON LEGACY IS ARRIVING IN THE MALDIVES SOON Set to open in 2021, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands welcomes you to embrace island life and indulge in an azure lagoon brightened by crisp white beaches. The resort is located on the Fari Islands, an archipelago of three luxury private resorts and a vibrant marina, nestled in the north-eastern rim of North Male Atoll. The resort is reachable by a 45-minute scenic journey by speedboat or a 10-minute seaplane transfer from Velana International Airport. The picturesque marina redefines the Maldivian experience bringing a refreshing scene of art, music, culture and shopping, offering guests a balance of cosmopolitan and private island life. The Ritz-Carlton Maldives presents 100 villas elegantly designed by the Kerry Hill Architects ranging from one to three bedrooms, a dedicated culinary island, The Ritz-Carlton Spa, fitness centre, tennis courts, dive centre, photography studio and signature Ritz Kids program.
At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, the legendary Ritz-Carlton service is perfected by Aris Meeha, delivering an inimitable Maldives experience, a butler concept inspired by the royal courts of the ancient Maldives. The sounds of the drums beat on sun setting, transitioning from a day full of discoveries into an evening of indulgence and reflection, giving the inspiration to do it all over again.

KERRY HILL’S REIMAGINATION OF THE MALDIVES Inspired by the water and circular movement in the Maldives, Kerry Hill Architects encapsulates the island’s spirit and philosophy, the circle of island life, through design and architecture. The Ritz Kids and The Ritz-Carlton Spa. Each of the 100 villas, set over water or on the beach, offer spacious living spaces that blur the line between indoors and out with panoramic sliding doors, a sun-deck and a private pool. Furniture, rugs and fabrics are custom-made drawing influences from local crafts and traditions in collaboration with Maldivian and international artists. And the calming palette of earthy tones selected for the architecture seamlessly matches the lush greens and multiple shades of blues sparkling under the sun, setting an elegant atmosphere. Protecting and nurturing the fragile coral reefs plays a central role in the vision of Kerry Hill Architects. The resort is developed on a sand-
bank, carefully constructed using pioneering pre-fabricated design methods and materials, ensuring that no cutting was necessary on the island, reducing heavy operations and leaving a minimal impact. From solar-panels harnessing sustainable energy to efficient use of water, every detail of the project thoughtfully lays out an environmentally-friendly approach from inside out. “The masterplan is directly shaped by ocean forces, the wind and waves. The circular villas sit comfortably in the bright Maldives sunlight, shadows are soft, and breezes flow freely between buildings” noted Kerry Hill Architects, “The design is inspired by the dual personality of the site, embracing contrasts between the open ocean and calm lagoon, daytime shade and the expansive night sky, contemplative and active spaces.” Kerry Hill Architects perfectly captures the essence of the destination’s nature, embracing the circle of island life through the minimalistic circular architecture a re-imagination of the Maldives, a meaningful tribute to the late Kerry Hill.
