The City of Toronto has shut down a mosque and Islamic school in mid-Scarborough with an order declaring the building unsafe. The Sakinah Community Center houses the Farah Academy Islamic School in part of a Birchmount Road industrial building south of Ellesmere Road. Posted on its doors on Friday, Jan. 29, the Order to Remedy an Unsafe Building states, among other things, the Sakinah Center lacks a fire alarm system and its sprinkler system isn’t working.
