Toronto police are investigating Tuesday’s fatal two-vehicle crash involving a TTC bus and a delivery truck in the westbound lanes of Steeles Avenue at Middlefield Road. The crash took the life of a 52-year-old woman and injured 12 others.

Probe into fatal bus crash ongoing ANDREW PALAMARCHUK apalamarchuk@insidetoronto.com Police continue to probe Tuesday’s TTC bus crash that took the life of a 52-year-old woman and injured a dozen others. “We’re looking into any possible cause,” said Const. Clint Stibbe of traffic services. “We’re

looking at every possibility and...if any additional questions come up as a result of our investigation we’ll continue to follow those questions until we find an answer.” The collision happened on Steeles Avenue at Middlefield Road just after 11:30 a.m. Police said a westbound TTC bus was servicing a stop east

of Middlefield when an eastbound truck crossed into the westbound lanes, mounted the curb, struck a hydro pole and hit the right front corner of the stopped bus. The 52-year-old, who was boarding the bus at the time, was pronounced dead on scene. Police didn’t release her name.

However, media reports identified her as Manoranjana Kanakagasabaghy, 52. She has two grown children and a grandchild. A 43-year-old woman who had just exited the bus was also struck by the truck. She was taken to Sunnybrook hospital with life-threatening injuries. >>>POLICE, page 8

The annual Bridging Festival in southeast Scarborough starts today with free music and food outdoors. Music @ The Market, from 4 to 6 p.m., features DJ Joseph Khargie, MC Epic the Grand, the Scarborough East Multicultural Gospel Choir, and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority Frog Orchestra at 4130 Lawrence Ave. E. The lawn space, used by the weekly East Scarborough Festival Market, is in front of St. Margaret In-the-Pines Church. It’s just the first of three events, open to everyone, leading up to an afternoon of celebrations under the Lawrence Avenue bridge over Highland Creek on Saturday, Aug. 24. Presented by Scarborough Arts and other groups, the festival involves local artists and chefs in order to bring all sides of Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park neighbourhood closer together. Kingston-Galloway is an intersection on the eastern side. Orton Park is the area on the western side of the bridge. That west side will host the first-ever Festival Film Night next Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, 3817 >>>FESTIVAL, page 11
