The 33rd annual Terry Fox Run to raise funds for cancer research takes place in communities across Canada this Sunday, and Scarborough will play host to two runs. The Scarborough Terry Fox Run takes place in Cedarbrook Park and the West Hill Terry Fox Run takes place in Colonel Danforth Park. Cedarbrook Park is at 91 East Park Blvd., near Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue. The run goes between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The West Hill Terry Fox Run goes from 8 a.m. to noon, and starts on Old Kingston Road in the Highland Creek Valley and travels through Colonel Danforth Park. Also, Fred Fox, the older brother of Terry Fox, will attend a special event planned for the Scarborough Civic Centre this Saturday. The meet-and greet starts at 10 a.m. at the site of the Terry Fox display in the civic centre.

Local Terry Fox runs on Sunday
A water main break closed Scarborough’s Variety Village
yesterday, but the recreational complex was expected to open today after a patch repair. Variety announced Monday morning its Danforth Avenue
building was closed “until further notice” because it has no water service. “For health and safety reasons, we are unable to open
the building,” said a notice on the charity’s website, which asked visitors to call its main telephone line, 416-699-7167, for recorded updates.
Communications co-ordinator Lynda Elmy said there is no flooding inside the building, but water was discovered ponding >>>FLOODING, page 8
