Like Toronto’s first food banks, it was supposed to close soon after it opened, but Scarborough’s clinic for the medically uninsured is busier than ever. And yet, after 18 years of treating people who need medical care and can’t get it, the volunteer clinic’s end could be near - an unthinkable result for Dr. Paul Caulford, its co-founder and medical director. "Our desperate goal now is to keep the doors open," Caulford said last week at the Canadian Centre for Refugee and Immigrant Health Care on Sheppard Avenue, the clinic’s latest home (and name). Since locating in the former church manse, the clinic has added more services, including a dental office upstairs serving the city’s working poor, but although its volunteer doctors and nurses
