Tanuan Kwanzaa story ‘humbled’ to be elected new Catholic board trustee CYNTHIA REASON creason@insidetoronto.com The byelection in Scarborough on Monday saw longtime resident Garry Tanuan elected to fill the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) trustee position left vacant in September following Tobias Enverga’s appointment to the Senate. Tanuan, who has lived in TCDSB Ward 8 for 12 years and has four children who attend Catholic school in the ward, won the byelection with 39.9 per cent (or 1,120 votes) of the 2,805 total votes cast, decisively beating out a field of nine other contenders. In a statement released yesterday, Tanuan said he was “humbled” by the results. “It is an honour to represent the Catholic ratepayers of Ward 8,” he said. “I am humbled by the decisive mandate given to me by the voters at a critical time when the government of Ontario has been interfering in >>>tanuan, page 5
