ISSUE NO. 1 VOLUME NO. 2 | 1ST Semester June-July 2014

Regi’s Return: A sign of a good start?

-ReiJanGon The wind blew in a different era last academic year as the registration certificate issuance—just like the dinosaurs according to the myth--underwent extinction. But this A.Y 2014-2015, the wind surprisingly blows once again in an utterly different way. The Registrar’s Office confirmed that they will issue again registration certificate to all legitimate PUPians.

Why they brought it back?

Regi—as PUPian called it—will be issued again because of the failure of the idea that it is no longer needed. Regarding to the statement of Mrs.Abegail Malabuyoc, Chief Registrar, last year, PUPians no longer need Regi for the SIS contain all the necessary data and records. Despite the mere fact that Regi is a part of miscellaneous fee, the Office of the Registrar adamantly insisted not to issue it last AY. Students who needed it paid 150 just to get a copy of their Regi.

How to get your Regi?

But as a good start for this year, PUPians only need to pass their student’s copy of voucher to the Office of the Registrar for them to get their Regi. There are no other necessary requirements just the proof that they already have paid their enrolment fee. This is good news to the scholars of different programs who need it most.

Is it a big deal?

PUP contains vast number of students

who are members of different Scholarship Program. Not to mention, most of the students here is a real ‘iskolar’ aside from the label ‘Iskolar ng Bayan’. These real scholars are obliged to pass legal documents such as the Regi, Certification of Grades etc. to their sponsors as a requirement to their Scholarship Program. In this case, the issuance of Regi is a really big help to them. But now the Regi is back, the Certification of Enrolment is no longer accessible to the scholars unless the pay 150 for it.

How about the shiftees, transfeeres and returnees? Being the late enrollees who made their enrolment thru R-zero form, they too will be issued Regi. According to Mrs.Malabuyoc, all will get their Regi but for those who didn’t enroll thru registering in SIS and paying in Landbank, they just need to pass Continued on next page...

their R-zero form with the receipt that shows they are already enrolled.

Does the issuance have bad side?

Meanwhile, the internal arrangement between the organizations—CSC, PUPCA and The Searcher—and the Registar that students cannot get their Regi without paying those organizations’ fees yet is no longer effective this year. This is an inconvenience to the three said organizations as they have no control to the payment of their fees. Last semester, they unsuccessfully collected hundred percent of their supposed-to-be collection. Without this internal arrangement, they have to double their effort and hardwork on collecting fund for their org. This is a tip-off to the students who do

not know their responsibilities as an PUPian. Now that the Regi is back but not having the internal arrangement doesn’t mean you can just get away with those legal fees. CSC, PUPCA and The Searcher never spend a penny of yours on no such things. To make assurance you will be given a good service, they need your cooperation by simply paying their fees. *** Somehow, according to The Searcher’s last year’s newsletter, the dinosaurs became extinct just like the issuance of Regi. This acquired violent reactions and accusations that it was just an Income Generating Project. Maybe the Registrar should be given a benefit of the doubt.

Young Davids Enter PUP-STB -Laarni Villasanta

"Be pure, be holy, be happy." To strengthen the faith and nourish the spirituality of youths, PUP-STB launches a new Catholic Religious Organization known as MHCC (Mary Help of Christians Crusade). MHCC-PUP was established by PUPians who are MHCC members already since their high school years. It was officially founded as a legitimate religious organization in PUP-STB on November 21.

What is MHCC?

“MHCC is an international Marian youth movement with youth members throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, North America &

Latin America. It is a founding member of the Federation of National Youth Organizations (FNYO), working in close coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). It is also the official youth arm of the Alliance of the Holy Family International (AHFI).” (source: www.MHCCrusaders.com) According to the MHCC by-laws, "MHCC is a modern day army of God, given the mission of saving the young people from the attacks of the devil”. Also, it is called 'Barkadahan' where the members can relate to one another. It is a Catholic organization that will help you spiritually, we do not just need to excel our mental and physical abilities but as well as our spiritual life, as the line goes by 'Study hard, pray harder', MHCC will help you strengthen and improve your spirituality. "It is a family that will help you and will always be there for you in joy and in pain." says MHCC President, Izamari Conception Andaya (BSP 2-1).

A Brief History MHCC is an organization inaugurated not only here in PUP-STB but as well as outside the university, here and abroad. Way back in 1987, MHCC was instituted first here in the Philippines by Fr. Edgardo “Bing” Arellano (founder of MHCC). It was only Manila that has MHCC, but as time goes by, after almost 27 years of sanctifying the youth - MHCC with the hearts of thousands of its members are still setting the world on fire by having lots of chapters around the world. Here in Philippines the organization has its chapters in: NCR, CALABARZON, Region 3, Cebu, Davao, Bicol, Cotabato, Negros Oriental, Bukidnon, and Agusan. While internationally, it has also reached Australia, Melbourne, Nebraska, Puerto Rico, Hongkong, Ireland, Toronto, New Jersey, Virginia, Sydney, Los Angeles, and other countries in Europe and in North and Latin America. Originally, members of MHCC are high school students. Missionaries are assigned in different high schools to teach and spread the word of God. But when these students finished their high schools and reached college, the holiness was lost, ceased and deprived. As a solution, MHCC College was proposed by the faithful crusaders. Presently, LSPU and PUP are the only colleges who already built MHCC organization, others are still on process. However, other colleges may not have MHCC in their universities as an organization but there are crusaders inside their campuses like: UPLB, UB, FAITH, T.I, BSU, Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa, Lucena Colleges, and other universities in Manila.

students and PUP faculties and admins are free to be one of the Young Davids. Members of this organization are used to be called as Young Davids for they are like David that is brave and courageous to beat the enemy and defend their faith. MHCC has alredy thousands of members including the youths, animators and advisers, and the STOs (Single Third Order).

MHCC-PUP as an organization

Who are encouraged to join?

This newly recognized religious organization is headed by Dr. Sophronia Malabanan and a set of officers. The President is Izamari Conception Andaya (BSP 2-1), while Jairie Canupin (BSED 3-1) and Fatima Lara (BSECE 2-1) are assigned V.P. Internal and V.P. External respectively. The position as secretary was given to Melicyn Higoy (BSED 3-1), Mikee Tolentino (BSED 3-1) is the treasurer, Laarni Villasanta (BSP 3-1) as the auditor, and the P.I.O is Jason Peñalosa (BSIT 3-1). Their mission is to promote the goodwill and collaboration among the youth of PUPSTB, form committed Christians, and to encourage a strong Eucharistic life and devotion. To fulfill the missions, MHCC will have weekly formations, monthly vigils (which comprises of Confession, Adoration, Rosary, Eucharist), kick-off mass, Marian Visitation, Mariology, recollections, cultural shows, believe and adore congress, sports fest, youth camp, chorale competition, YCL (Youth Conference for life), and values formations and seminars. The previously 22nd foundation mass and baccalaureate mass was also organized by them. They are still recruiting members and are challenging others to stand up for what they believe. “Sa MHCC” 'di ka magsisisi -the MHCC motto.

Everyone is welcome to join and be a part of this Catholic youth group, both the PUP

New name, New Officers, New Leadership

CSC Replaces SSC

-LaarniVillasanta

As the PUP-STB opened up another academic year, the Supreme Student Council (SSC) announced that they will no longer be called as SSC but as CSC referring to Central Student Council (CSC). During the interview with the newly COMELEC-appointed CSC president Sonny Roy Magsino, on May 11, confirmed that the SSC changed its name to CSC. He also said that aside from the organization’s name its logo has also changed its appearance. The said modification was not just the new CSC officer’s decision. According to Magsino, the organization’s name had been deliberated in ANAK-PUP (alliance of all PUP branches’ and campuses’ leaders) meeting on May 9-10. He elaborated that it was discussed there that it is written in the handbook that the organization must be called SKM (Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral), Magsino said, “Kase ‘di bakapag sinabi nating ‘supreme’ ibig-sabihin sobrang taas. . .” as he elucidated why the word ‘central’ replaced ‘supreme’ when it is just PUP branches-branches or campuses-campuses only it must be called CSC, but if it is P.U.P. to other colleges or universities it must be Supreme Student Council (SSC). He also added that some P.U.P. branches and campuses, even the main campus are already using the term CSC even before. However, aside from the name and logo of S.S.C., policies, agendas and other important matters inside the organization nothing more had changed.

Behind the Appointment of New Officers Failure of both parties to file for candidacy, COMELEC and SLCD for the third time (first was on S.Y. 2010-2011 and second was on S.Y. 2012-2013) resolved and come up with the decision of having an appointment of officers on February 15, 2014. The presidency was handed over Sonny Roy Magsino and Catrina Gasangue is his VicePresident. Kirby Palla is named as the Executive Secretary while completing the line of Councilors are Eric Silva, Roxanne de Josef, Benedict Ri-

vera, John Rey de Castro, Rhomaine Andrea Gonzales, Andrew Robles, Rosemarie Agcopra, Angelo Jay Aguiflor, Crisandra Meriales, John Francis Matilde, Kimberly Camille Andaya, and Anna Marie Maralit. Declared College Represantatives are: Grace Angelique Silva (College of Accountancy and Finance), Alex Centeno (College of Business), John Eduardo Señoran (College of Computer and Information Sciences), John Jay Gatdula (College of Education), Joward Cabrera (College of Engineering), Joisel Gentolia (College of Hospitality), Jenny Cura (College of Social Sciences and Development),and John Patrick Remorosa (College of Technology). ADHOCs are: Rose Marie Mendoza, Sebastian Mico Zuasola, Victor Domingo Sevilla, and Erick John Medalla. Pero kung sasabihin nila yun sa akin, I will stand as a professional one. The only thing to defend myself is to do my best. Basta ako, I will do my best for this university and for the student’s right and welfare/interests.”, said Magsino when asked for his opinion being the appointed president of CSC.

NI ISKO N a p a ka -i re sp o n sa b l e ! Dapat hindi kayo paggraduate-in.

NOT OKAY!!! -Hazel Grace Lancaster & Augustus Waters Mga HAMPASLUPA, magbayad kayo! -KCeee

HARD HAT AREA “Customer Satisfaction” Napansin niyo ba ? Pusturang –pustura on his white uniform ang peg ni Koya !

“Version2.0” Impernes!

I felt this feeling a while ago, She entered the room with finest, Went in front and caress her hair. She started talking while my knees began shaking. The class began murmuring, while she began shouting. We were suddenly stopped, and look at her with shock. Her eyes were in fire, burning with anger. Her soft and sweet voice turned into what gigantic monsters have. After composing herself, she went out the room. We are left amused and somehow scared for her come back. I guess this is fear, not love. For the one I thought our happiness, was the terror professor we have.
