POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON TOURISM FOR MAUI Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) released preliminary results a month ago that showed total expenditures by visitors to Maui reached $2.7 billion accumulative to-date. This is an increase of about 19.9% more than the same time last year. The HTA attributed the increase in expenditures to an increase in daily spending by 12.8% or roughly $173 per person. In addition to daily spending, visitor arrivals to the island increased by about 5.6% or 1,907,642 visitors. These visitors were primarily from the US West with an increase of about 5.6% as well as an increase from Japan by 6.1%. As we look toward the New Year, the HTA feels optimistic the momentum will continue with the increase in airlift. Hawaiian Airlines increase in airlift with routes from Sapporo and Brisbane, Jetstar adding lift from Melbourne and Allegiant adding more lift from feeder US West coast cities and Bellingham to Kahului.

LIFE IS SWEET FOR BEST BUDDIES

NEW LOGO You may have noticed a new addition to our logo in ads and promotions these past few months.

Life is Sweet was held November 10, and attracted many people. This dessert showcase and fundraiser event for Best Buddies returned to The Shops for a successful third year. The culinary masters from Wailea’s premium restaurants and resorts competed and wowed the tasters and guest judges, including actress Maureen McCormick (known as Marcia Brady), who returned once again to host and judge the event.

We’re proud to introduce this new iconic image of a mosaic starfish, integrating the fountain features of our beautiful shopping center with our ocean-side resort location. Also, if you look closely, you’ll notice that the star shape is created with the swirl top of the “S” in our existing typographic logo ... just another way we continue to evolve and enhance our recognizable branding.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL – FRIDAY, JANUARY 18 As hosted by the general manager, for store managers and owners. Join us! RSVP is required. Call the management office 891-6770 or email carrie.manchan@cbre.com.
