Set Systematic and Smart Goals for Career Planning....
Goal Setting is an important aspect of career planning and career development. Have a clear insight into your vision before you actually take an action and move ahead towards initiating and then reaching your career goal.
Types of Career Goals Long-Term Goals:Â Goals that you see for a period of five to 10 years Short-Term Goals: Goals that you aspire to reach in the next 1 to five years Intermediate Goals: Goals that you desire for the next one year
Transform your goals to ‘Smart Goals’ while meeting certain criteria to make your goals achievable:
Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Time-Bound
Specific Goal You should have a clear goal with a specific picture in mind as to where you wish to reach in your career. To have a clear view of your objective, answer yourself with 5 W’s: What do I want to accomplish? What will I achieve after you accomplish? Who is involved in the process? Where exactly I think I will meet my career aspirations? What will be the key requirements and constraints?
Measurable Goal To ensure that your goal is attainable you should make it measurable. To have a quick understanding of the measures, answer yourself with 3Hs:
How much will I achieve? How many will I achieve? How will I come to know that I have accomplished my goal?
Attainable Goal To reach your career goal, make it attainable by ensuring that they are realistic and ethical. To ensure that your goals are attainable, answer yourself with these questions: How can I reach my goal? How can I create a period and establish a predictable outcome? How can I make my goals believable and possible? How can I make my goals flexible to various complexities and challenges?
Relevant Goal Make sure that your goals are relevant to your career desires, your skills, your priorities, your interests, and your desires. To make your goals completely relevant, answer yourself with the following questions: Is this goal worthwhile for me? Will it take me closer to my priorities and purpose in life? Does this goal inspires me to push my boundaries? Will I be able to create a substantial career progress chart?
Time-Bound Goal All your career goals should be time-bound with a specific target date and time. The moment you plan to set a time boundary to meet your career aspirations, answer yourself with the following: When will I achieve my goal? When will I take my first step into my career? When will the first phase of my career be over? When will the second phase of my career be over? When will I reach my dream career? When will I reach the peak where I picture myself as a successful professional?
