Play Park News!
After a couple of quiet weeks for Christmas, we are ready to hit 2017 running! We currently stand at just under the half way mark of our final target which is now £60,000 thanks to some friendly haggling with Sutcliffe. We have a few ‘thank yous’ to say. First of all a big thank you to everyone who went out and voted for us in the Tesco Bags for Help Scheme, we have yet to hear back on what our final position result is but it was extremely close! Also thank you to Clarke and Simpson, especially Vicky Abbott for putting us forward, for donating £250 to the fund, it was a lovely surprise for the group to receive and a wonderful thank you must go to Mary Ellis who very kindly donated £48 to us through the village lottery she organises, we are grateful to you all! Our Fundraising initiative to kick off the New Year and continuing through to end of the spring term is “Pennies for the Play Park”. We would like to ask all Stradbroke residents if you would be kind enough to save all your small/loose change for us, 1ps, 2ps, 5ps & 10ps, if you would like to save higher amount coins too then that would be fantastic! The High school, Primary School and Library have all been kind enough to be collection points for us. So you can drop your pennies off at any of these, just ask them if you are unsure of where the collection container is, the bakery have also kindly taken a smaller collection box. We have a couple of event dates for your diary, a Mother’s day coffee & cake morning with book sale on Saturday 25th March 10.30am – 12.00pm, there will be the chance for young and old alike to bring their mums for a little treat, there will also be a craft table where anyone can get creative and make their mum a lovely card or you can just sit and have a chat and a bit of cake or peruse the second hand book stall. With the book sale running alongside this we would like to ask anyone who has unwanted books if they would like to donate them for this sale, just get in touch with Ellie: elliestradpc@outlook.com or Katie: katie.eagle@btinternet.com. On Saturday 15th April we will be organising a Easter Treasure Hunt for the family to take part in and we will give you further details on this the next Monthly. We wish to thank you all again for your continued support, please check out our facebook page for more updates!
Traffic Calming and Speeding
It has been mentioned to the Parish Council a number of times that residents of Stradbroke are concerned about traffic speed through the village. There is in place a Highways Working Party who have been on the case of gathering data and meeting with Suffolk Highways to discuss the options for traffic calming within the village. The Highways Working Party have a meeting arranged at the Courthouse on Tuesday 21st February at 2:15pm. We would be grateful to anyone who has concerns over the speed of traffic in the village that wishes to attend. We hope that we can have some new perspective on old issues and hopefully some new ideas as to how we can solve the issues raised. The Parish Council have advised that Stradbroke is currently on the waiting list for the temporary Vehicle Activated Signs provided by Suffolk County Council but we don’t know when this will be operating in the village.
