Stradbroke Library Live!

The first Community Arts screening of a live performance West End play is taking place on 11th June at the Court House in Stradbroke. This is a screening of a live stage performance from the West End of Billy Elliot: The Musical.

Set in a northern mining town, against the background of the 1984/85 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dreams come true. The story follows Billy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever.

Doors open 7pm, screening begins 7.30pm. Tickets are £8. (Please note: Cert 15) This event is part of the Suffolk Libraries Presents project which brings quality theatre and exhibition events to Suffolk communities using the latest digital screening equipment.

Suffolk Libraries Presents is an Arts Council England funded project which is being run in seven of the county’s libraries with the aim of bringing more Suffolk residents into contact with the arts in a familiar and accessible local venue. Suffolk Libraries is working in partnership with Creative Arts East to deliver this innovative new project.

Happy Birthday Ma’am Congratulations to Her Majesty. The longest reigning monarch in British history, Queen, mother, grandmother and most photgraphed person on the planet, senior citizen who works over 40 hours a week, Supreme Governor of the Church of England, yet feeds her own dogs, the Queen’s remarkable life of service to our nation and commonwealth has made her one of the most admired people in the world.

Her’s is an extraordinary long life of devotion and service, all carried through with a diplomacy which our politicians often lack.

We may ask what is the secret of the Queen’s remarkable consistency of character and extraordinary contribution to our nation. It’s a question she herself answered in 2002: “I just know how much I rely on my faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning. I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God….. I draw strength from the message of hope in the Christian gospel”.

From an early age Her Majesty has led by example. Her Christian faith and firm belief in a higher power has enabled her to perform her duty and become the best loved monarch in our history. Happy Birthday Ma’am.

Stradbroke All Saints Fundraising Committee The Art Exhibition was quite well supported and raised £1554.19. Thanks must go to everyone for their help and support, making my job much easier. Thanks to Mr & Mrs Goffee for all their help with printing & wine and also to our sponsors, Skinners & Mark Peacock. Next year is our 25th Art Show so we must make it very special. I am now arranging the Flower Festival in church on 11th, 12th and 13th June to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. I still need about 3 more flower arrangements. Any offers? We shall decorate on 9th June. We are also serving food in a marquee and are having a large printed raffle. Tickets are £1 each with many prizes, including £50. Helpers will again be needed at the festival, so please let me know if you7 are able to fill in a slot. After all this we have the Village Show to look forward to. Roly Copping has the schedules to pick one up and enter, because it is you that make the event. 23rd July in the Community Centre. Thanks to all who donate to our cause in so many ways.

All Saints – A message from Rev. Cathy Bladen Dear Friends and Neighbours, I’m gradually getting to know people in Stradbroke and am really enjoying all there is to learn about being a priest in rural ministry. One of the reasons I believe God called me into this work is my love for people and my enjoyment of getting to know them and building relationships. There are many different aspects to the job, which means I’m able to get involved with community life and the local schools too.

There is so much life going on and groups to be a part of, it gives me and everyone a real sense of belonging. As I reflect on that I wonder if that is because churches and chapels have always been at the heart of the community, helping to bring people together and creating a sense of belonging. I think there is still a feel of that in the village, although perhaps less obvious.

In these unsettled times there is a real need to feel we belong, and that is part of the beauty of the Christian faith; it draws people from all different back grounds, different abilities, strengths and weakness to come together, to become community. I believe that God designed us to be a part of community and Christian fellowship. It’s in recognising that each one of us is special and loved by God that we each have significance and value and from that we get a true sense of acceptance and belonging. The Clerk’s Report

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held in the Community Centre at 7.30pm on Monday, 13th June 2016.

5 members of the public attended the meeting.

This was the Parish Council’s AGM so in addition to the usual business some extra proposals were voted on: Stuart Gemmill continues as Chair, with Oliver Last as Vice Chair.

Councillors were also elected to working parties and committees.

The Councillors voted to adopt new Standing Orders / Financial Regulations / Financial Risk Assessment / Freedom of Information Policy and Publication Scheme.

Planning Applications supported: 1087/16 Valley Farm IP21 5JL– change of use from agriculture to residential.

1629/16 Fig Tree Cottage, New Street, IP1 5JJ – removal of porch and single storey rear extension to replace existing. Erection of 1st floor extension over existing garage. Replacement of timber windows and lime render. Oliver Last reported on the S106 document re the Grove Farm development. Councillors were disappointed to note that the requirement for local needs housing has disappeared and only choice based affordable housing remains on the plan.

The Chair will contact Mid Suffolk re the plan shown as annex A in the S106 documents as it appears to highlight the Leisure Centre.

It was noted by Councillors that the money is available for projects within the vicinity of the area shown and felt it would be wise to consider all options once the Neighbourhood Planning questionnaire is analysed.

Further details on planning can be obtained from the Clerk.

Finance The cheques for signature included one to Suffolk County Council for the work carried out to enable them to adopt the Street Lights. Suffolk County Council have confirmed that they have now taken ownership of the lights and no further charge will be made to Stradbroke for the cost of running the street lights.

Other Clearance at the cemetery took place on the 8th May and thanks were expressed for all those that helped on the day. Some additional work has been identified and will be carried out in due course.

Councillors are still working with a number of companies to identify improvements to play equipment within the village and hope to start completing funding applications shortly.

We are approaching a busy and enjoyable time for village activities. The organisers of all these events have planned for a long time and will have all the necessary licences and policies in place. Should any villager find they have a concern about any event, please feel free to contact me and I will pass it on in confidence to the organisers.

Members of the public and press are very welcome to attend meetings of the Parish Council and to bring matters of concern or information to the attention to Members in the time allocated to the Public Forum.

Dog Owners are requested to only use the bins designated for dog waste and not to use the village litter bins when disposing of dog poo.

Life in the Legion—The Royal British Legion (Stradbroke and District Branch) From the Chairman’s Desk The Speaker at the May monthly meeting of the branch was member Rosemary Warne, MBE, DL, who spoke on the career of Brigadier Geoffrey Weston DSC & Bar. It was a most interesting talk and well presented. On behalf of the sixteen members and guests present I gave the usual vote of thanks. In the tribute at the start of the meeting mention was made of the recent death of Douglas Crooks, aged 95, who was our oldest member. The Royal British Legion’s, Diss Branch Standard Bearer, Jim Root, was welcomed.

Branch Secretary & Treasurer Bernard Mills presented letters received, membership and the bank details. Thanks were given to everybody for their help with the recent concert given by The Sheringham Shantymen to celebrate our Queens 90th. Birthday; in particular Joyce Cooper, our organiser, for all she had done. The best branch event I have been to for the past 33 years as Chairman!

The next branch meeting is on Thursday, June 9th. to be held at our new venue Laxfield Royal Oak, starting at 11.30 am, with a guest speaker being arranged.

W.I. 28 members and 3 visitors joined together to enjoy the MAY meeting keen to debate the resolutions and to join in the Silent Auction which was organised by Patricia Woodward. To start the evening Gill welcomed us all and thanked our hostesses for the flowers and posies and in advance for the refreshments, always a good move . Gill informed us that a letter of thanks for the bouquet of flowers given to Joyce and Roy Lee on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary had been received from them expressing their pleasure at the gift.

Gwyneth Harris took the opportunity to tell as about Denman College that is in need of works and maintenance to be done and of course this will be expensive as the house is Georgian and needs remedial works . Ways of supporting the college were discussed and a gift box has been provided so that members may gift anonymously if they wish or by cheque if so desired.

The resolutions were our next topic and there was much lively discussion around the first subject regarding care for dementia patients when in hospital. The resolution wanted hospitals to provide facilities for the carers to come into hospital and stay with their relatives to help with their care provision. This was thought to be all well and good but perhaps did not give enough concern to the fact that carers also need a break and should not be used as volunteer labour, that perhaps time and money should be spent to ensure that all staff are thoroughly trained and aware of the problems in caring for patients with such specific needs when staying in hospital. A vote was taken and the resolution was carried on a majority vote .The next resolution was to prevent supermarkets from throwing away edible food that could be used by those in need . This again caused lively discussion as we were informed that most of the big supermarkets are already working with some charities to utilise this food and that it is more of a problem with the smaller businesses. The principal of avoiding food waste was agreed as was the need to bring this problem to the attention of the public and media. At this point a vote was taken and the resolution was passed by a majority vote.

It was noted by many members that the wording of these resolutions did not always satisfy the need to be able to make a clear cut decision on the resolution and that greater thought should go into the presentation of future resolutions. At this point we thanked Jennifer Chetwynd for her sterling efforts in presenting the resolutions and managing the debates, no rotten tomatoes were thrown and the session concluded peacefully.

Further excitement ensued as the silent auction commenced. Over the last few months members have collected their unused gifts and Patricia Woodward has put them together in little groups with exotic titles like Arabian nights and All woman. The members were given some time to look at the presentations and to put in a bid for the ones they liked the best, others could out bid them but as in all good auctions you could come back and increase your bid. As for the silent part , well that was asking too much of our W.I. ladies as they took their refreshments and made their bids. Patricia called time and the lady with the last bid on the list of her choice took the spoils amid much laughter and chatter. Thank you Patricia that was fun and we made some money for our W.I. Final business was conducted and the meeting was closed.

Next meeting will be on 9th June when Kindra Jones will come dressed in costume and talk to us about costumes through the ages. See you there .

Stradbroke High School Stradbroke High School Celebrates ‘Suffolk at Play’ Pupils in year 8 and volunteers from the local community have recently celebrated the culmination of the Stradbroke Suffolk at Play project at the high school.

Over the course of 12 weeks, school pupils and older people from Stradbroke and surrounding villages worked with a reminiscence facilitator, a poet and an animation artist to explore memories of what and where they played. They then went on to create poems, memory boxes, scrapbooks, prose and animations inspired by exploring the differences (and similarities) of the childhood games they played, and the places in which they played them.

The celebration event started with a special assembly where over 100 pupils from years 7 and 8 viewed the DVD of the work produced. The pupil participants were then joined by the adults who took part, and together they watched the animations, mused over the booklet, and generally recalled how much they had enjoyed it all.

Project Officer, Candida Wingate from Suffolk Artlink, the charity responsible for Suffolk at Play, was delighted with the process at the school: “Suffolk at Play gives different generations the opportunity to recapture and share their memories of childhood games and pastimes. Participants also benefit from the chance to learn more about the different circumstances in which they grew – and are growing – up; from suffragettes to superheroes, they gain a better understanding of those circumstances, and of each other.”

The verdict of the volunteers has also been very positive with comments including “This has been a fantastic opportunity to get to know these young people a little better. I’m so impressed with how they behave and how polite they are – at my age, you don’t always expect that, but these children have been absolutely lovely.”

Through these shared activities and experiences, the project helped the group to build and strengthen relationships, whilst the creative work they produced has contributed to a new heritage resource. The project, which runs for three years, will culminate in a major celebration and exhibition at the Museum of East Anglian Life later this year, which will also launch an archive of work from the project that will be available for future generations to access.

Stradbroke Primary School We have had already had such a busy term and there is a lot more to come! Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge ‘well done’ to our wonderful Year 6s and Year 2s who have worked so hard on the lead up to SATS and did a brilliant job sitting the tests. Rehearsals are now fully underway for our upcoming Summer production of ‘Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits’, a humorous and lively musical set in mystical Arabia. We will be putting on three performances of the production in June and the children are very excited to showcase their talents.

We are very excited to have been asked to perform at Stradisphere this year and will be taking some songs from our summer production to the main festival stage at 11:30 am on Saturday 9th July – we would love to see lots of you there!

Other treats lined up for this term include Sports Day, a Talent Show and, of course, our Year 6 residential trip to Derbyshire.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated old clothes and shoes in the new recycling bins - located by the swimming pool bottle banks in Stradbroke village. In the last few months we have raised over £500, which has been split between the Friends of the Primary and High Schools and also the Starlight Children’s charity for terminally ill children. Stradbroke Archive and Records Association The Poet. On the west side of the church in grave number 62 lies James Chambers, a wandering poet. He was laid to rest on 8th January 1827 at the age of 79. He left behind a wealth of poems describing Suffolk life. He chose to walk from village to village selling books and his poems, mainly living of the land. He slept in barns and stacks rather than entering the gates of the Workhouse. He wrote: “In one house throughout their lives to be The pauper palace which they hate to see, That giant building, that high bounding wall, Those bare-worn walks, that lofty thundering hall, That large loud clock that tells each dreaded hour, Those gates and locks, and all those signs of power, It is a prison with a milder name Which few inhabit without dread or shame –“ James Chambers poems were published in 1820 and have been considered important enough in recent times to be reprinted for today’s reader. We have ordered the book and are waiting for it to arrive so that we may add it to the village archive collection. The archive has also received in the last few days a video documenting the building and opening of the swimming pool. We hope to have this digitilised within the next few weeks so that we can return the original VHS to the donor along with our ‘Thank you’ for his generosity. Wingfield and District Gardening Club At the end of April we had a very interesting visit to Christine Howard at Bedingfield to learn about cooking the produce of our gardens. This took place in a lovely warm barn with many good ideas and delicious eating following her talk! In June we make our second visits to the gardens which we saw in January. These should look very different and in their full glory. For ‘Gardens in Summer’ we meet in the Community Centre car park at 9.45 am on 25th June.

The 3 Rectors FOASS (Friends of All Saints’ Church) is entering an exciting new phase!

Over the years this committee has raised thousands of pounds to help save our church building and this continues with a new bid as outlined in last month’s magazine. A wide variety of fund-raising has happened and has been very successful due to the dedication of the volunteer committee members and the generosity of all of you – Stradbroke villagers. We are all very attached to this historic and iconic building in the centre of our community and none of us wish to see it disappear. In fact, early analysis of the Neighbourhood Plan questionnaires suggests that a majority of you want to see its use expanded.

As such, we are now concentrating on a single big focus that will not only attract large external funding but be an opportunity for many more people of all ages to become involved in a community project, sharing talents and skills while developing the church building into a vibrant and useful space and venue for a wide range of events, exhibitions and activities.

The Stradbroke Sports and Community Centre Cinema On Thursday, 16th. June, we are showing “Dad’s Army” 7.00 for 7.30 pm. The Bar will be open and ice-creams will be on sale in the interval. Entrance is £5.50.

The classic TV series is one of the best loved British TV shows of all time. An all-star cast Toby Jones, Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The Home Guard was real, they lost 1,200 volunteers to enemy action in WW2, mainly air raids while on duty, they never faced an invasion, a real concern in 1940-41,but they didn't know that at the time! A pleasant film to watch, and a homage to the original series and the historical Home Guard.

At the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 17th May the Chairman, Roger Turkington reported on a successful year, with a surplus of £7593. The Red Feather Club On Saturday July 2nd there is a 1950s dance from 7.30pm ’til late with band Big Swifty and top London DJ Pat Da Kat making their Horham debuts. Tickets are £10. On Sunday July 3rd, Americana Day, from 10am to 4pm, is a fun family day celebrating all things American. The free event, which includes admission to the museum commemorating the 95th Bomb Group, will offer living history groups, trade stalls and classic American cars, hot rods and military vehicles on display. There will also be a DJ Jamboree.

On Saturday September 24th the 200th mission dance features Skyliner and DJ Big John’s Special. It is from 7.30pm ’til late with tickets £12. Saturday October 22nd sees the annual Help for Heroes dance also from 7.30pm ’til late.

The historic Red Feather Club, operated and managed by the 95th Bomb Group Heritage Association, is the official UK museum of the 95th Bomb Group. The award-winning museum in a former NCOs' club exclusively houses uniforms and memorabilia relating to the 95th Bomb Group who flew out of Horham during WW2.

The 95th, part of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, flew 334 missions and were the first Bomb Group to perform a daylight raid on Berlin. They were awarded a record three Presidential Unit Citations and lost more than 600 men in action. The Red Feather Club is four miles south-east of Eye off the B1117 (IP21 5DG).

Parachute Party in aid of hospice Adrenaline junkies are invited to join the Parachute Party this July in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice.

The local charity is looking for groups of people to join them and dozens of other supporters to skydive on Saturday 16 July at Beccles Airfield.

The hospice is hoping to have a record number of people in St Elizabeth Hospice history jumping - all in one day!

Joanne Rodger, St Elizabeth Hospice’s events and challenges fundraiser, said: “This year we are holding our first Parachute Party and we are looking for groups of friends, colleagues and families to enjoy the exhilarating experience of jumping out of a plane 10,000ft above ground – on the same day.”

Where possible, groups will be able to go up in the plane together, and skydive one after the other. Each skydiver is asked to pay a £50 deposit and to raise a minimum of £300 for the hospice.

Miss Rodger added: “We are hoping to have a record number of people in the hospice’s history jumping on the same day, all in aid of the hospice.

“All the money raised from the skydives will go towards improving life for people living with a progressive illness such as cancer, motor neurone disease and heart failure in East Suffolk.

“We already have 15 signed up, but if we have 50 people skydiving, we can raise thousands of pounds which would help make a huge difference to our patients and their families.”

Extended weekend hours at Suffolk’s Household Waste Recycling Centres From Wednesday 1 June 2016, the opening hours at Suffolk’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will be changing to offer site users extended hours on Sundays, Bank Holidays, and on a Thursday evening during the summer months, reflecting the times when the sites are most used and needed by residents.

The busiest times of the week for these sites are the weekend and bank holidays. The quietest day of the week is consistently a Wednesday. As a result of this, all sites will be closed on a Wednesday.

Tourist Information News As the name suggests, we provide information, not only for tourists, but for local people too. We work for Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils and part of our role is promoting the Heart of Suffolk as a tourist destination.

We can also help local organisations, attractions and businesses to increase their custom and visitors. We have a whole wall of poster space, and can display event fliers in our leaflet racks. We have a board available to publicise any special occasions, and we regularly use Facebook and twitter to share information about our area.

There are lots of fantastic events in the area this month; The Suffolk Show 1st & 2nd June, Museum of East Anglian Life Blues Festival on Sat 11th and the Queens 90th Birthday celebrations at St Peter and St Mary’s Church in Stowmarket, from 4th – 12th. Old Newton have their open gardens event on 12th to coincide with the Queens 90th Birthday.

Suffolk Open Studios is every weekend in June and includes around 30 Studios and Galleries in the Heart of Suffolk. We sell tickets for fundraising events and concerts, and take bookings for Suffolk’s Year of Walking. Local guided walks are in Mendlesham – 4th, Debenham – 15th, Needham Market- 17th, Gosbeck – 22nd. Stradbroke Cricket Club As far as the Cricket Club goes, May was a Monthus Horriblis. Three defeats in the first three games of the League season, albeit, two of them in the last over, and a long trek to deepest Essex, just to be dumped out of the National Village Cup. Parodying Shakespeare (my new hobby), Richard III’s observation about “The Summer of our Discontent”, would be accurate if it were not for a genuine enjoyment for the struggle by the players in every game. In the Centenary of the battle of the Somme, it may just be trench humour before facing the inevitable. Inevitability came a step closer with the turmoil surrounding the Junior Section. Lack of qualified coaches, lack of volunteer support, & a general lack of junior cricketers, forced a sudden lockdown. As it stands, there is no Junior training, the Club has withdrawn from the Suffolk Junior Leagues, & those juniors are being integrated into the senior team, where possible. There has been some support & general understanding of our decision. Having lost three coaches in less than 12 months, maybe Junior cricket cannot be supported in the village.

We have at least bought a little time to take stock. Apart from all that, everything in the garden is rosy.

Neighbourhood Plan A very big thank you to everyone who has completed and returned their questionnaire. We have had an excellent response from 11-16 year olds and from the middle and older generations but not so many from those aged between 17 and 31. If that’s you or you know of someone in that bracket who has not yet attempted the questionnaire there is still time as we will add any late responses into our data base as they arrive.

We now have the very important task of analysing what everyone has to say and we are fortunate to have the advice and guidance of an expert to help steer us through this process so that we can produce a meaningful and relevant draft for everyone in the village to comment on when it is written. Naturally, this will take some time but we want to share information with you as we unpeel facts and figures in our analysis. This we will do through regular updates on the village website – www.stradbrokeonline.org.uk - so do keep looking at that as well as feedback in the Stradbroke Monthly. We shall also have a display on the findings from the questionnaire and announcing the winner of the draw at the Stradbroke Festifull on June 25th and 26th so there is another reason to attend this big event in the village.

The first snapshot of your responses is, however, the message that has come through loud and clear how you all have great affection for our village – you think it is a very friendly, lovely and safe place to live and you are keen to maintain that. There are also strong feelings regarding traffic and broadband/mobile phone reception and when we have crunched the data we will share this more thoroughly with you.

Finally, we would like to thank all those volunteers outside of the committee who knocked on your doors and delivered the questionnaires so effectively. How To Make Your Pension Go Further We are all living longer than we have before. This is great news, but the age of retirement has not really changed, so people are having to make their pensions and savings go further in later life.

Here are some tips on how to help to make your money go further: *Save money on energy bills - Check with your current supplier and see if you could go on a cheaper tariff, or if they’re able to fix their prices. Many energy suppliers offer a discount if you pay by direct debit each month, you could also make a saving by switching to paperless billing and managing your account online. *Claim the right benefits -There are a number of benefits that you may be eligible for in your retirement, including Pension Credit, Winter Fuel Payment, and Cold Weather Payment. *Pension Credit - Is an income-related benefit made up of 2 parts – 1. Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit. Guarantee Credit tops up your weekly income if it’s below £151.20 (for single people) or £230.85 (for couples). 2. Savings Credit is an extra payment for people who saved some money towards their retirement, eg a pension. *Winter Fuel Payment - You could get between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills if you were born on or before 5 January 1953. Most payments are made automatically between November and December. You usually get a Winter Fuel Payment automatically if you get the State Pension or another social security. If you qualify but don’t get paid automatically, you’ll need to make a claim. *Cold Weather Payment - If you’re getting certain benefits you’ll get a payment if the temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below for 7 consecutive days. You’ll get a payment of £25 for each 7 day period of very cold weather between 1 November and 31 March. *Save money on travel costs -In England you can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach the female State Pension age, whether you’re a man or a woman. *Apply for a concessionary TV licence -Once you or someone you live with are over 74 you are eligible to apply for the over 75 free licence for your household. *Shop wisely – Plan the meals for the week this will help to reduce waste and ensure you buy what you need and are not impulse buying. Also make use of the freezer, cook food in batches that can be frozen and used later.

Freeze everyday foods like milk and bread so that can be used when needed and will reduce waste. All these tips can all add up to make savings.

With summer finally here, albeit in a rather changeable way, it’s time for me to fill up the empty spaces on my allotment. And the annual debate about whether to buy seeds or plants. Growing from seed seems more exciting, though with some of the newer varieties costing several pounds a packet, it is not always a cheap option. Consider splitting packs with a gardening friend as many packs have more seeds of one variety than a normal garden would need. And avoid losing your precious seeds to Damping off. This is the annoying fungal damage that causes seedlings to suddenly collapse and die. Several soil borne fungi can be the culprits. Damping off is most common in high humidity, if seeds are to thickly grown so airflow is impeded, and if dirty seed trays or equipment are used. Traditionally copper based fungicides were used to prevent damping off. These are no longer available, so cultural controls are necessary to reduce its incidence. Buy clean bagged seed compost, clean all your pots and trays before reuse with a mild disinfection. Sow seeds thinly and water with clean tap water not rainwater .And if the humidity gets high ventilate by opening windows.

For myself a lack of time and no windowsills in the new cottage mean that I will probably choose the plant option, except for salad crops. Hopefully by the time you are reading this my plot will be full and everything growing like crazy. Happy Gardening.

The soil in these beds are very good for carrots, producing the best carrots I have ever grown last year. Others have grown cabbages, herbs and salad vegetables with great success as well. Play Park Project Update!

We are now at the funding stage of the play park project, The working group of the council, who were put together to spearhead the project, are now exploring different grant and charity funds that we can apply for funding through. In order to have as big an impact as possible with the improvements, we need to raise as much money as possible. We would like to set up a village fundraising team, led by Ellie Wharton from the Parish Council, to work on ideas, planning and the running of community fundraising events. We really would like to have within this group a good age range of Stradbroke residents and most importantly input from the children. Borderhoppa Community Transport New Bus Club Lottery. The New Bus Club Lottery was established to help Borderhoppa replace older vehicles coming to the end of their useful life. New Bus Club Lottery is open to everyone aged 16 or over. Each lottery number costs £2.00 per month and participants can purchase any amount of numbers each costing £2.00 per month.

The lottery draw takes place on the last Friday of each month and all winners are notified by post.
