Back to School Celebrations in Stradbroke! September has arrived and it is “back to school” time! September this year is a special time for one of our schools, as on Friday 25th September 2009, SBEC (as it is today) will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of it’s opening as Stradbroke Secondary Modern School (as it was then). Both our schools were expensive to build in their time, with the Secondary Modern School costing £90,000 when it was built in 1959 and the Primary School £855 when it was built in 1863/64. Ceremonies and celebrations marked both openings and though the fashions may have changed both events marked a huge step forward in the development of the village of Stradbroke.

You may not have been at the opening of the Primary School but there will be many people who were at the High School in it’s first five years. SBEC would like to hear from anyone involved with the school at that time so please dig out those old photos and any memorabilia and contact SBEC. Details inside the magazine. Mike Readman, SLHG
