AL OSTOURA ’S CURATION
letter/ Dear readers, It’s finally that time of the year. Yes, believe it or not, it is almost New Year’s Eve! Not wanting to sound repetitive, we won’t profess of our learnings and yearnings, and we won’t preach of change and new beginnings, but we will not hold back from stating proudly, you’ve got this, we’ve got this, you and us will continue, stronger than ever and chirpier than ever to face 2020 with raised enthusiasm and a renewed sense of togetherness. We all had an excellent, exciting, and super fashionable year thus far, and we’re not satisfied, we are not stopping there. We continue to deliver; for trends this month, we’re obsessing over the color red, and the designers are too… Speaking of designers, we don’t like to associate trends with designers, but umm, can somebody say Moncler? We’re loving the puffed jacket look for this month, along with our long bobs. Yes, haven’t you heard? We’re all getting haircuts now. Join us, won’t you! Talented and fashionable risk-takers have a special place in our hearts and pages… Farah Al Wugayan is a Kuwaiti poet who recites her story in our pages, all dressed in Gucci! Diamond hairpins, beautiful shoes, and luxurious cars… This talent-packed edition of the talk is all yours to indulge in. See you next year, stay warm, and stay motivated…. We have much to conquer, and remember: together. Till next time, the talk Team

Farah AlWugayan
A Kuwaiti poet reciting her story Lover of the mystical, she dances with your energy and turns you into a poem. You’ll find her slaying cases at courts in the morning and wrapped in poems at night. She merges emotion with logic as words are everywhere for her. A poet in touch with many spirits, she sought to outpour all her heightened emotions. Farah is known for her instant poetry and has taken up the challenge of writing instant poems in many events that have gained success over the past five years. She published her first poetry book “hi, i’ll love you anyway” in March 2017. Every poem she writes translates a part of her soul. She comes alive with words and believes in the unity that comes with language. Farah immensely believes that she writes because love is the only universal truth. She hopes her poetry becomes the tool that encourages everyone to stand, feel and simply become their truth. During the 2018’s summer, Farah was a participant in Bowery Poetry in New York where she struck her audience with a performing piece. She uses performance to vocalise the words that reside in her heart. Farah aims to heal and spread awareness through her words. With her great mechanism, she also aims to create a world of oneness where individuals would feel less alone.

• When did you first fall in love with poetry? Ever since I was very young, I witnessed my mother writing poetry in Arabic and extending her love by reading the poem out loud to us. Sometimes she’d turn the poem into a song and sing it to my father. It would engulf me in the warmth of her love and the words. As well my grandmother Maryam (rest be upon her soul), even though she did not read or write, would recite poetry in Arabic. I remember not fully understanding the words, however, her powerful recitation, that too with a robust Kuwaiti accent, would allow her verses to resonate effortlessly. Ever since, I have been in awe of the magic of words, tones, and storytelling. • When did you start writing your pieces? I started writing around the age of 13. Writing for me began initially as an attempt to create characters; I would spend my time making up characters in my head and sketching them and giving them life. Eventually, each of the characters had their own story to tell, and sometimes their stories intertwined. I later realized that the dialogues in the stories were very poetic, and instantaneously the flight of poetry took off. My first piece was five pages long, and I clearly remember that my mother wept as she read it; I was not a very talkative child, and through my poetry, she had a sneak peek into my deepest thoughts. Seeing her moved by my words was a moment so profound and touching; it motivated me to explore words and literature further. • What was the first poem you read that inspired you? I pulled out a Khalil Gibran book from the Arabic library in school and kept it with me for an entire year, and as I read it over and over again, it seemed to captivate me each time. What’s astonishing about Gibran’s writings is how his poetry tends to evoke the same feelings it emitted from the very first read; purposefully proving the power of words, expression, form, and structure. Years later, I found the same book in a used bookstore; I now have it in my library. • How did poetry change how you view things in your life? Over the years, I have come to realize that I’m very metaphorical, and I use much imagery in my conversations. I tend to go through my reality poetically. I genuinely believe that it is the small and most unnoticed things that exist in our day to day lives, and in the dynamics of our relationships, that hold most power and significance. I am forever observing the mundane, for example, how my friend brushes her teeth twice in the morning. It truly
is worthy of being noticed, in my view. It is these very mundane moments that make up the significant elements in our stories. Poetry is my form of communicating and collecting these very moments that we generally neglect and give them due weight and recognition. Poetry makes me feel like I’m unifying the emotional journeys, I feel accomplished when I am told that my poem meant something special to someone or that my words were able to resonate something they didn’t know how to express. I aspire to heal with the collective through my storytelling and words. I want to cultivate a safe space for people to feel comfortable and invited to validate and to feel their feelings and emotions fully. • When was your first on-stage performance, and how did that make you feel? In 2015 in Harlem, New York. It made me feel excited, alive and vulnerable. After that, my path expanded from being just a visual artist and evolved into a performance poet. • What projects have you worked on, and what is in store for Farah AlWugayan in 2020? I published my first book in 2017, “hi, I’ll love you anyway,” and I have been performing on different stages around the world. I also released an audio-visual poem meshing visuals and performance poetry in 2018, “Psychosis”. I am currently working on more videos, and in 2020 I will be venturing onto different performance stages worldwide. A little disclosure: I have been pouring out poetry, working on a manuscript, but that’s for a secret future reveal. • Tell us about your personal style: how would you describe it? My style is a culmination of my growth. In my early years, I leaned more towards a grungier side; as I grew older, my style evolved just as my personality did. The evolution, but of course, covers the various phases of my life. I am prone to opt from neutral colors, and mixed prints, to dark and grungy, to the integration of it all. What I wear depends on my mood; some days I want to express how mellow I feel, and I will pull out the melancholic neutrals, and on other days, when I’m hyped and excited, I will most definitely pull out bright colors to further amplify my fire feels. I love brands with a sense of edge and experiment, but mainly I like pieces that speak out to me, pieces unique in their making, and that seem to me like they were designed for the experience of my being. During my travels, I find myself hunting for pieces from local brands. the talk - page 25

Bottega Veneta
Pre-Spring 2020 Campaign The Pre-Spring 2020 campaign celebrates and subverts the iconography of modern luxury. Still images continue to define the new visual identity for Bottega Veneta, set by Daniel Lee, Creative Director, and photographer Tyrone Lebon.
the talk - page 32
An oversized gold chain runs through a photographic studio; the space unretouched, instilling tension between environments raw and refined. Jewelry, a key code of Lee’s design, invades the silhouette. Accessories an essential extension of the form. Both weave into the brand’s new DNA. Colors are smoked blue, pine green, burnt caramel to black – muted and visceral. Clothes are beautifully crafted, effortlessly elevated, and set in stark but aspirational reality. Featuring model Jean Campbell and cult designer Andre Walker - characters who take the lead in their own lives - the Bottega Veneta community grows the narrative of Daniel Lee’s evolution with each collection. The campaign studies the cult of an icon and takes inspiration from Italian neo-realist cinema. Elements of the studio, realism versus finesse, life’s characters alongside working ‘actors’ - the high contrasted with the low, all adding a tension to the imagery.

ASPINAL of LONDON This season, Aspinal of London takes inspiration from all things quintessentially British - from the equestrian culture of the countryside to the ma jestic uniforms of the Queen’s Guard. This is the first season with celebrated Couture Designer Giles Deacon at the helm of Aspinal of London’s design direction alongside the brand’s Creative Director, Mariya Dykalo, bringing his illustrative skills to bear across a playful collection of small leather pieces and scarves. The Queen’s Guard is given a glamorous reinvention, while a Pekingese playfully holds his own Aspinal of London handbag. Hero pieces within the collection have been influenced by the rich embroidery details and unsurpassed craftsmanship found within the Wallace Collection. The Wallace Collection is a treasure trove of inspiring pieces from paintings to sculptures and furniture to porcelain, collected by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace in the 18th and 19th Centuries, and bequeathed to the nation in 1897. In designing key pieces from the collection, Aspinal of London took a revived focus on texture and animation, drawing further inspiration for their classically autumnal palette of Evergreen, Bordeaux, Orange, Blue, Ivory, Mustard, Soft Taupe, Navy, and Tan. the talk - page 38

If there’s one jacket you should own this season, it’s the puffer jacket! Aside from keeping you warm, these jackets are the IT piece this season. Moncler and other brands have been showing us how it’s been done for years; now we’re listening, we’re finally listening and surrendering to its style power. Pair your puffer jacket with a winter tweed ensemble or wear it on top of your jeans and sweatshirt. There isn’t a “wrong” way of doing it unless your colors are clashing, well actually, even then, you can still get away with it, yes … ask Prada! Another piece we’re loving is the maxi puffer jacket. You can choose to go monochromatic or printed, and you cannot go wrong with this either. Pair your maxi jacket with a pair of skinny jeans and a vintage shirt for a casual chic attire.

The color red has always been visible in our wardrobe but not too often, as there are a thousand and one shades starting with orange-red, tomato-red to maroon and crimson. If you want to go all out, you can go ahead and suit it up in red. Keep your heels nude and lips bare, do not attempt a red lip with this look, we do not approve. Want to rock a red lip? Slip the color red in casually with your accessories. Let’s try to blend our trends, pair a short knitted dress in nude with a red puffer jacket for a statement look.

Boucheron Quatre Although it was highly innovative, the first Quatre collection created in 2004 was immediately viewed as a classic. A true variation on gold, white, yellow, and pink, the rings come together in a round of precious metals. Enter gold with a brown PVD coating as the counterpoint in this work of gold where the light is already dancing. Each motif plays its part with mastery and completes this bold and original ensemble.
the talk - page 46
Wearing the Quatre ring is not an insignificant choice. It means we accept our paradoxes and have obviously ruled out the conformity of the vocabulary of our lives. Visionaries, Parisians, cosmopolites, the perennially fashionable... everyone who wears the Quatre ring has something in common: being women and men of vision and conviction, people who assert their choice. Quatre is the ring for those who don’t play any other game than their own. the talk - page 47

Van Cleef & Arpels Limited edition Vintage Alhambra pendant
Every year, Van Cleef & Arpels gives voice to its creativity with a new limited edition of the Vintage Alhambra pendant. Today, the Maison is renewing its partnership with the illustrious Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, on a pendant that blends Celestial Blue porcelain with yellow gold to form a solar harmony. This year, the Maison has chosen the Celestial Blue – created by the Manufacture in 1752 to adorn the first dinner service ordered by King Louis XV. It today embellishes the palette of the Alhambra collection, which brings together hard stones, mother-of-pearl, and other noble materials. Much sought-after for its elegance, porcelain is produced from natural materials and pigments, then hand-dyed by the Manufacture’s craftsmen. Its soft, smooth surface offers a luster of excellent refinement.

Ankle Obsession Justin Timberlake said it himself, “This just can’t be summer love, you’ll see.” This summer obsession isn’t over yet. Yes, it’s winter, but who says we need to let go of our golden anklets? Of course, wearing anklets, post-summer, enter-winter, will need some guidance, as obviously, some pieces will have to be left behind. If you get our drift, over-the-boots is the way to go. We’re putting all our attention on choosing the perfect boots when we should be looking for the perfect flats to go with our foot-focused jewelry. From golden leaves to gold chains, nothing is too fancy for our winter wardrobe. Trend-watchers will be rating this trend a 10/10 for its dare factor. Dare you? the talk - page 50
Pinned Up Now, this is an upgrade to a trend that has been seen throughout the runways and flaunted at the parties. We had our box of them in the ’90s and played around with hairstyles. One of the most common hairpin designs are the pearls, and now Messika has come up with a game-changer: the diamond hairpin! How to wear? It’s all up to you! You can either let your hair down and pin it up from the side, or add the pin to a high bun. This piece isn’t a regular accessory; this piece of jewelry is beauty, a piece of art, a mode of expression in itself. the talk - page 51

Audemars Piguet A new Millenary Timepiece: The Millenary Frosted Gold Aventurine Aventurine glass was created in the 17th century thanks to a chance manipulation (“all’avventura”) in a Murano glass factory when copper filings were dropped into cooling molten glass, creating a constellation of sparkling particles. Today, this glass is obtained by introducing black copper oxide and cobalt, which colors the glass in blue. This hint of outer space is contained by the 18-carat white gold case finished with Frosted Gold on the case sides, bezel, inner bezel, and lugs – a technique that Audemars Piguet owes to jewelry designer Carolina Bucci. The watch is complemented by a hand-made and hand-polished 18-carat white gold Polish mesh bracelet, which adds a vintage touch while dressing the wrist like a second skin. The Millenary Frosted Gold Aventurine is equipped with a hand-wound Manufacture movement, caliber 5201, which perfectly integrates the elliptical case. The construction of the escapement has been reversed to match the watch’s asymmetric style. The beating heart – balance wheel, escapement, and lever – usually hidden on the caseback side, is now revealed through the partially open dial. THE LOWDOWN On the inside: Movement: Self-winding Manufacture Calibre 5201 Power-Reserve: 49 hours Water Resistance: 2 bar/20 m On the outside: Case: Hammered and satin-finished 18-carat white gold case Dial: Blue aventurine off-centered disc and small second counter Bracelet: 18-carat white gold bracelet with folding clasp. Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date Following the successful launch of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva last year, the Grande Maison is extending the Polaris line with a special new creation: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date (limited edition). Produced in a limited series of 800 pieces, the new JaegerLeCoultre Polaris Date combines the Manufacture’s high-watchmaking expertise with contemporary proportions, vintage design motifs, and several important aesthetic changes. Drawing inspiration from the 1970 Polaris II, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date features a new hand-lacquered, blue double-gradient dial with sunrayed, grained, and opaline finish, unique to this select model. The central disc and main dial now each incorporate a shimmering, color-change effect - from deep turquoise to a brilliant shade of royal blue. The blue rubber Clous de Paris strap, also unique to the model, is color-matched to the inner bezel, which, like the original Memovox Polaris and Polaris II, rotates for added functionality. Longines Heritage Classic With a streamlined design, this new creation perfectly respects the 1930s spirit of the piece that inspired it. In particular, it reflects the aesthetic of its sector dial in a subtle balance of colors and lines. A silvered opaline disk – with a glow that emphasizes the fine blue steel hands – stands out art its center. The Hour circle adorned with Arabic numerals and hour markers, appears on a satin-finished silvered disk. A fine, edge, also in silvered opaline, surrounds the hours. Another significant detail of the dial is the small seconds counter in striated silvered opaline, characterized by its size and remarkable position: a wished faithfulness to the original mode. ASAP Beauty ASAP Beauty was founded by Kuwaiti Entrepreneur Sheikha Majda Al-Sabah who started her own business as a beauty industry maverick in 2008, filling a need she recognized in the regional markets. While interacting with her followers, Majda noticed a necessity to introduce formulations that were specific to regional skin and hair, made with natural ingredients such as argan oil, tea tree oil, lavender, chamomile, coconut oil, coffee, olive oil, collagen, orange blossoms water, sea salt along with many others that were incorporated in unique formulas when launching ASAP’s very own skincare & haircare brand. As her products took off with the challenge of a more significant workload, new working lifestyle, and a growing number of responsibilities, Majda found herself under immense pressure, manifesting into exhaustion and leading her into depression. She was taken aback by the resistance and stigma surrounding the topic of depression when sharing this with the community, as if it were a shameful matter that needed to be kept hidden. Utilizing her social skills and abilities in making difficult topics more accessible and approachable, Majda decided to take full advantage of her social media platform and spread the word about the importance of shedding light on mental health, so that no individual would suffer in silence. She established the ASAP Initiative for Mental Health Awareness, with a mission to help as many people with mental disorders as possible and dedicate a considerable portion of ASAP Products’ sales to fund the cause and save desperate lives.

K7L by Areej Sultan Al Essa K7L is the culmination of a decade of meticulous market research and observation into a demographic that has an intimate relationship with beauty throughout history. Beauty, in its rawest form, is not a case of style over substance but rather a case of substance as style. K7L’s focus remains on formulating a collection of iconic products that would stand up to the highest standards of professional makeup artists. The lipsticks last for 24 hours, and the Sleek Stick Foundation has anti-aging properties with an SPF50: a multipurpose product that serves as both a skin-enhancer and sunblock, featuring powerful antioxidants to protect the skin from free radical damage. With a minimalist and chic branding style, K7L’s prime focus concentrated on the quality and functionality of products. They chased audacious hues, richly pigmented color, smooth application, intensity, and durability. They eventually formulated a comprehensive range of products to suit every woman on every occasion. To the non-Arabic eye, K7L reads as two letters with the number 7 lodged in between. However, the number 7 in Arabia is widely being used colloquially to denote a hard, guttural ‘H,’ an accentuation not pronounced in the English language. To Arabic speakers, K7L actually reads KHL [kohl], which is Arabic for traditional eyeliner, the most sought-after product in Arabia. It is K7L’s way of encrypting its roots into the brand. the talk - page 65

Blunt Bobs This winter, the long bob is coming back, and we’re predicting it’s here to stay, yet again. We girls are risk-takers, but when it comes to cutting a few inches off, we panic. Well, there’s no need for that now, the long bob isn’t that much of a risk, but it definitely is a game-changer. Transform your look with just a haircut. Want to look even cuter? Go for lowlights or a slight sombre (ombre color but more subtle and soft) for more definition. To achieve this look, gradually shorten your hair with every trim session, or, we say, just go for it in one sitting! Trust us; you’ll end up feeling refreshed and loving the new look. the talk - page 68

The Truth About Probiotics To some, ingesting “bacteria might sound like a crazy idea. However, probiotics, according to studies, are apparently good for you. Probiotics are live microorganisms that can be consumed either through fermented foods or supplements. But why is it right for you? Firstly, probiotics promote a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which is how they can help and treat diarrhea. Gut health is related to mental health, which studies tell us, is improved with the consumption of probiotics. Some strains have proven to help keep your heart healthy. Lastly, probiotics can boost your immune system, which is why it is healthy to start taking them after a course of antibiotics. the talk - page 69

Selim Mawad “The revolution demands social reform, but it has no social dimension. It is a political dilemma. Selim Mawad, Beirut Day 27 of the Revolution 15 November 2019
the talk - page 72
Half-man, half-bull (thawr –) ثور and from Beirut, Mawad’s minotaur presents to the world the streets of many a revolution (thawrat – ) ثورة. The bull narrates the personal revolution of Lebanese artist-activist Selim Mawad as he continues his journey out of Africa, through Europe, and finds himself amidst another revolution… this time in Lebanon. The bull first springs forth in Burundi where Mawad is on a peace-building and genocide investigation mission gone rogue, and is re-born on his rooftop atelier in during Beirut’s November of resistance. For Mawad, it is a representation of the self and of the universal values he has upheld for more than two decades - those same values he today finds himself in a struggle to re-focus. His beast is not an innocent within its actions. The bull spans the imagination of humanity; from the caveman hunting, it to the 21st century’s artificial intelligence domesticating it. The bull has existed from time immemorial in the human consciousness. Here, Mawad’s creature continues its journey from the revolutionary streets of Beirut and takes its place within the fantasy of an exhibition space. Whilst the (thawr – ) ثورis sacred for some, and the (thawr – ) ثورis revolution for many, the (thawrat – ) ثورةis the primordial self of one and of all. the talk - page 73

The message was a private invite to Ikea’s most awaited collaboration of the year. The subject in question? Well.. it’s none other than Virgil Abloh’s Markerad collection, “items designed for the home environment” peek session. The instructions were simple: wait for the wrist band to heaven’s gate. I waited, and on Tuesday, at 5 PM… I received. The physical invite was clear, slick, and minimal… a true reflection of what to expect from both Ikea and Virgil to display, and in it was my wrist band. The event was to take place the next night, but it wasn’t at usual event hours. No, this was exclusive... only a few were selected to see this... and that was planned perfectly to happen between the hours of 10 and 12 PM the next night. So like Cinderella, sans pumpkin carriage, and mousy friends, I called upon my inner godmother and roamed my closet for the perfect insider outfit. I wanted to channel that infamous Swedish je ne sais quoi~ I wanted slickness in the form of effortless – but very well calculated pieces. I opted for my plain black linen pants and a half-sleeve light cotton black turtleneck t-shirt. Gold for accessories, Miu Miu flats, and I’m on the way.
the talk - page 84
“MARKERAD”- Swedish term meaning “Marked” in English- is a collection consisting of 13 pieces, each with what seems to be an Abloh signifier: orange design accents, quotation marks on some of the names rhetorically displaying the function of the piece… and a bold replacement of the iconic blue IKEA shopping bag with a brown tote looking one with the word “SCULPTURE” plastered across, and a few other similar ironic displays. In the heart of the self-serve area: music, late-night ice cream, and Markerad! the talk - page 85

Commencement Life Coaching in 2019 It seems everyone is talking about life coaching – at times it can feel that if you haven’t currently got a life coach, you must already be one! But it is a role that appears greatly misunderstood. Neither psychiatrist, psychologist, sociologist, nor counsellor, yet somehow a blend of all. Sounds like there’s more to this than we knew. So, we asked life coach Celine Akkary to give us her take on what life coaching is – what it offers her clients, and what the role demands from her.
the talk - page 86
I’ve always found it amusing that the ceremony in which degrees and diplomas are handed out to high-school and university students as they reach the finish line is called a “commencement”. And yet here I am, as a life coach, trying to at least start - commence - somewhere by defining ‘Life Coaching’ to you. Where to begin? I’ll start by talking about Canadian actor, Stephen Amell – perhaps better known to you as the bow-wielding, crime-fighting vigilante Oliver Queen (a.k.a Green Arrow) in the series Arrow. He’s also known for his good looks and stunning six-pack. If you’ve heard of Arrow, you’ll know that the series revolves around the spoiled billionaire playboy Oliver Queen. The premise is that he goes missing and, when his yacht is lost at sea, is presumed dead… only for him to return home five years later determined to become a better man, a beacon of hope, a hero. Well, wouldn’t we all? So, why exactly am I focusing on Oliver Queen, or the Green Arrow, in a wellness feature designed to introduce ‘Life Coaching’? The thing is, serendipity is a very funny thing, and finding something where you least expect it, out of the blue and, in this case, in a Netflix series awash with uninspiring dialogue and unrealistic action scenes, is something guaranteed to jolt the senses. For me, it came in the form of a line so profound it detonated inside my brain, prompting me to pause and reflect. the talk - page 87
talk the talk - interview
“This, this is it, who I am, what I do. Oliver Queen, Arrow In essence, this is life coaching’s core operating model - helping clients through the client learning and being processes which lead to smart action taking towards any given goal. The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines life coaching as partnering with a client in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. A life coach literally helps people increase self-awareness, generate learning, as well as identify and accomplish meaningful goals. The world has managed without life coaches thus far, so, you might ask, what is it about modern life that means we may need a life coach now?
the talk - page 88
The answer is simple. Since the beginnings of civilization, humans have sought enlightenment, understanding, knowledge and self-betterment. Life coaching, while still relatively new as a profession, is a combination of business and sports coaching techniques and tools designed to bring out such learning, knowledge and betterment across all areas of a client’s life. While we may not be on the set of one of Netflix’s most popular series, nonetheless we are the main actors in our own lives. For each of us building a solid, objective support system that makes this growth possible is essential. For some, this support may come in the form of a life coach, for others it may be a mentor or a therapist. While mentoring aims to link someone in a specific craft with someone who’s already skilled at it, and therapy offers diagnosis and focuses on the past to heal certain traumatic experiences, coaching focuses on the future that the client desires, and uses a proactive, forward-thinking approach in getting there. For a life coach to be effective in helping clients realize their full potential and achieve their goals, it is essential to adopt an open and curious mind – one that avoids judgement and embraces the idea that the client is naturally resourceful. Inspired? You should be. Now, before you coach up, here’s the International Coach Federation’s checklist to consider: • Do your homework. Educate yourself about what coaching is, what it isn’t and what the coaching process entails. • Reflect on your goals and objectives. Summarize what you expect to accomplish by partnering with a coach. With a clear idea of your desired outcomes, you can better choose a coach practitioner who is well-equipped to help you develop a strategy for achieving them. • Interview at least three coaches. Ask each coach about his or her experience, skills and qualifications, and request at least two references. Coaching is an important relationship, so look for a personal connection between you and the coach you choose. • Confirm credibility. Research each coach’s training, professional memberships and credentials. the talk - page 89

Rolls-Royce Completes Black Badge Family with Cullinan At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars presented Black Badge, a permanent Bespoke family of motor cars that defined the taste patterns of an emerging generation of super-luxury consumers. These unapologetic and highly dynamic products responded to those who refused to be defined by traditional codes of luxury and did much to attract new customers to the marque, reassured by RollsRoyce’s fluency in their bold aesthetic and uncompromising lifestyle requirements. the talk - page 92
Rolls-Royce debuted Black Badge with Wraith and Ghost in 2016, followed by Dawn in 2017. Today, the family is completed with the introduction of Black Badge Cullinan: the darkest and most urban statement of Black Badge yet. Created to satisfy overwhelming demand from younger, more adventurous clients, Cullinan, in its silver badge guise, was launched to global acclaim in 2018, immediately becoming the world’s pinnacle super-luxury SUV. Combining luxury in its purest form with genuine practicality and off-road capability, Cullinan unequivocally delivered on the promise of an experience that is ‘Effortless, Everywhere’. The Rolls-Royce of SUVs did much to reach a new group of clients looking for unfettered access to the world’s wildest places and most enriching experiences. Yet, within this group exists a subset of individuals who seek to subvert the motor car’s domineering presence by permanently cloaking it in the night. Cullinan has conquered the world’s wildest reaches. Now it is time for Black Badge Cullinan to conquer new urban frontiers. the talk - page 93

Bentley
The Missing Link: Mulliner Completely Recreates Pivotal 1939 Bentley Corniche Bentley has re-created a long-lost car from its illustrious past that provides a crucial link in the history of its most important models. The ground-up rebuild of the only 1939 Corniche ever made highlights the marque’s pedigree of design and technological innovation, the breadth of skills within Mulliner’s bespoking division, and connects the fabled Embiricos 4Ÿ Liter and R Type Continental. the talk - page 94
The only car of its type now in existence thanks to the skills of Mulliner, the Corniche was conceived to be a high-performance version of the new MkV saloon, itself a technological advance that was due to be launched in October 1939. The styling of the Corniche was a radical step forward from the traditional Bentleys of the 1920s and ‘30s, introducing ‘Streamlining’ to help deliver greater speed and performance, and heavily influenced post-war models from the R Type Continental right through to the current Continental GT. The original Corniche was lost in France in 1939 at the outbreak of World War II. It was extensively damaged in a traffic accident while undergoing road tests in France in August 1939. Sent for repairs, the chassis made it home to the Bentley plant in Derby, but the bodywork was destroyed in a bombing raid on Dieppe later in 1939 and was never seen again. the talk - page 95
