Your Mental Health Is Important

Preston Buszka Editor-in-Chief Preston's Perspective: Your Mental Health Is Important Who would have thought? It is true, though. For most, college can be a fun and exciting experience. For others, it is an immense struggle, whether it be academically, socially, or personally. We have reached a time where it is no longer acceptable to stigmatize people with disabilities, mental or physical. I’m not familiar with anyone that “chose” to have ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), nor chose to be paralyzed, for example.

I’m sure being the Kettering nerds that you are, many of you have heard of Reddit. It’s a wonderful place filled with “subreddits” for whatever your heart desires. Most importantly, it is the absolue goto for memes, and I know you like a good meme.

“I just want to say one word with you. Just one word. Plastics.” In the movie, The Graduate, Mr. McQuire says this quote and speaks of the “great future” for plastics. While today, many people may have mixed feelings on the synthetic material, it’s without a doubt that plastics have changed the course of our society. However, with the current state of the planet's climate, it goes without saying that there's always a slight sense of guilt that is felt when throwing something plastic away in the trash bin when there’s not a recycling bin around. And then there are those trash bags, which we throw into a cupboard, it sits for a year, and then it too goes into the trash, probably.

Kickstarter. The word used to mean something Indie was shooting for seed money on the internet. Nowadays, all it does is leave a bad taste in the mouths of many gamers, including myself. Let’s talk about Phoenix Point.

Now those of you that have browsed this wonderful place before may know that an r/kettering subreddit exists, and it’s been dead for a really long time. Well, it’s back! All the Kettering memes you could ever ask for in one place. Continued on Page 4

And this is why you should use reusable bags or paper ones. However, if you choose to use the plastic bags still, you may do it with a little less guilt. Plastic Roads. Now, while that may sound slightly anticlimactic, it’s still something rather interesting. Dow Chemical Corporation in Midland, MI created a formula that uses recycled plastic bags as part of the materials needed for asphalt. Known as Polymer Modified Asphalt Roads (PMA), and according to Dow’s website, PMAs use, specifically, recycled linear lowdensity polyethylene (LLDPE) plastic. From some Photo Courtesy of reddit.com

Phoenix point is an upcoming turn-based strategy game under development by Bulgaria-based independent developer Snapshot Games for release in December 2019. The game is supposed to be a spiritual successor to X-COM, a game originally created by Snapshot Games’ Julian Gollop during the 1990s. The game is pushing innovation in the same way that Sanctum did — it is combining elements of its main genre with those of a first-person shooter. After he’d invested nearly half a million dollars into the game, Gollop launched a campaign on Fig to raise money for development. This effort came to a successful conclusion on July 7, 2017, having raised $765,948. Among the promises made on their campaign included the promise that you would be able to get a key for the game on whatever platform you wanted — Steam, GOG (formerly Good Old Games), etc. Then comes March of this year, and Snapshot Games signs an exclusivity deal with Epic Games for 1 year. Now, I’m not about to say that this is 100% bad, but let’s look at the pros and cons: On the good side, Snapshot Games has more money, which will lead to a game that is no less Continued on Page 3
