Welcome aboard. Thank you for flying Citywing and welcome aboard this flight today. We here at Citywing have had a busy few months since I last wrote. Early July marked the beginning of Citywing’s internship programme. This programme kicked off when university graduate Ross, 21, joined and took charge of marketing our on and off Island routes. One week later we welcomed Jamie into the business, fresh out of St Ninian’s High School. Jamie is taking a year out between school and going to university himself, and is going to gain practical experience by taking control of our Cardiff to Anglesey route. All our staff have welcomed our two new interns and are looking forward to passing on their wealth of experience to them.

Personally, I had a very busy tail end of August regarding travel and used our services to Gloucester on a few occasions as I went and visited Cardiff with my family and then went to a conference in London, both of which are easily accessible from Gloucestershire Airport. Very convenient if you don’t like the hustle and bustle of larger, international airports, and this is the case at all of our destinations. Our destination airports are smaller and our friendly and personable staff at these airports can help make your journey as simple and stress-free as possible, whether your journey ends with them or you are going further afield. Do please sit back, relax and enjoy your flight and we hope to see you again very soon.

In August Blackpool achieved an approximate 11% increase in passengers from July. We are glad that people are recognising that, even though the airport has changed, Citywing still flies there, as well as using it as a gateway to other areas of the north-west. In a period where some of our competitors have struggled with bad press regarding the punctuality and cancellation of their flights, Citywing has once again excelled. In July we had 98.9% regularity and 82.4% on time and, despite the problems with fog and other bad weather, we still managed to achieve impressive numbers in August in these two areas with 99.7% regularity and 80.2 on time. In both months over 90% of the flights departed within 15 minutes, the figure which most companies quote. The cancelled flights in August were due to weather which highlights the reliability of the fleet of aircraft that Van Air supply, and the benefits of having 2 engineers based on the Isle of Man at all times.

All your answers are treated in the strictest confidence. Thanks for your help and we hope you enjoy your short flight.

Citywing News

Take off for Citywing’s internship programme Citywing has launched its new internship programme with the appointment of Ross Wilson and Jamie Burkitt. Both are from the Isle of Man. Former Ballakermeen High School student Ross Wilson, 21, a Chester University graduate, will be responsible for marketing Citywing’s Isle of Man routes, while Jamie Burkitt, 18, who recently left St Ninian’s High School, will be promoting the Cardiff-Anglesey route. Jamie said: ‘To have left school only recently then be accepted as one of Citywing’s first interns is a great way to gain a foothold on the career ladder at an early age.’ Ross added: ‘Everyone at Citywing has been very welcoming and supportive. They have a huge amount of combined experience of the airline industry and from day one have been extremely generous in sharing their knowledge with Jamie and me.’ Citywing managing director David Buck said: ‘Against the background of an increasingly competitive jobs market, locally and internationally, Citywing’s new internship programme aims to offer some of the Island’s young

8

people early career opportunities and help them to gain practical experience of the world of work while making a positive contribution to the Manx economy. ‘Citywing’s routes out of the Isle of Man and the Cardiff-Anglesey operation, combined with our enviable punctuality record and consistent high standards of customer service, present a wealth of marketing potential on which Ross and Jamie are clearly keen to capitalise. We are pleased to welcome them to the team and look forward to helping to develop their skills and promoting the Citywing brand.’

Now booking to March 2017 Citywing customers can now book their flights online to March 2017. The Citywing winter 2016-2017 timetable is now loaded into the system with more than 4,000 seats available at the lowest fares which start from just £23.95 one way. Managing director David Buck said: ‘Our scheduling – winter and summer – reflects our deep understanding of the demand for reliable domestic air travel and the appeal of the wide range of destinations we offer. It’s that market intelligence that has, for example, not only shaped our winter timetable but also led to us expanding our services for TT this year. ‘Our winter 2016-2017 schedule demonstrates our long-term commitment to offer year-round great value fares , convenient timings, consistently outstanding punctuality and the reassuringly high level of customer service for which Citywing is renowned.’ For bookings from now until March 2017, visit citywing.com. Meet the Staff

Meet Jamie We would like to introduce you all to Jamie who is one of the new interns who has recently joined Citywing. He has come straight from St Ninian‘s High School so it is his first taste of full time employment. In reality he joins with very little experience but his enthusiasm cannot be faulted. By the end of his time at Citywing he will have covered most areas so it should put him in good stead for the rest of his employment life. Unfortunately for Jamie, not long after joining Citywing he broke a bone in his ankle so is having to take time out from his major passion outside of work, which is football. At least he can still watch the odd game and enjoy his beloved Liverpool beating the MD‘s team Chelsea! Jamie Lives in Douglas with his parents and his younger brother and has decided to take a gap year out to enjoy life and learn some life lessons before continuing his education.

Reaching new heights in punctuality Citywing’s outstanding punctuality and regularity continue with figures for July and August recording consistently high operational standards.

In July regularity was 98.9 per cent, on-time departures 82.4 per cent and flights departing within 15 minutes 91 per cent. In August regularity reached 99.7 per cent, on-time departures 80.2 per cent and flights departing within 15 minutes 94.4 per cent.

Cancelled flights over the two months were caused almost exclusively by weather factors, which no company can control. We know from passenger feedback that those affected by the weather said they were very well looked after by Citywing, something we are very proud of. Managing director David Buck said: ‘These figures are indicative of our enviable year-round performance record which is not only driving customer satisfaction

and loyalty, but also attracting new passengers to the Citywing brand. ‘By way of example, August saw a big increase on the Isle of Man to Blackpool route, a double daily service we launched in April 2015 and proving increasingly popular.

9

‘Consistent on-time and regularity records and growing passenger numbers are, of course, cause for celebration…as is affordability, with Citywing fares between the Isle of Man and Blackpool from as low as £23.95 one way.’

BLACKPOOL ILLUMINATIONS

NEW ADDITIONS FOR 2016 NEW: Star Trek

A special section in the Golden Mile will commemorate 50 years of one of the biggest TV and movie franchises of all time, Star Trek. It is hard to imagine that five decades ago, when the first episode aired on television, it would lead into a multi-billion pound franchise, and yet 50 years on, it’s going as strong as ever. This year, Blackpool is gearing itself up for a Star Trek extravaganza . A major exhibition in the heart of the Golden Mile will sit across the road from an Illuminations display showing the different captains of the Enterprise throughout the years.

NEW: Beach House Boulevard

One of Blackpool’s newest and most popular bar and restaurants, the Beach House, has its own section in the heart of the display. This will light up a section of the Illuminations from Talbot Square up to their venue, next to the wedding chapel in a spectacular way. Millions of LEDs will adorn the Promenade in blue and white – the colours of the Beach House.

NEW: Chandelier Causeway

A new road section for 2016, including a series of stunning LED and strobe lighting festoon, alongside chandeliers celebrating the glamour and glitz of lighting. This classic looking display is guaranteed to be truly eye catching and is situated between Central Pier and South Pier.

NEW: Kaleidoscopia

A brand new experience at the southern Starr Gate entrance of the display will see over 1000 LED lights mysteriously change colour and patterns, creating a multitude of rhythmic shapes in light above you as you enter the show.

NEW: Enchanted Graden

A new opportunity on the Cliffs section of the display that allows you to enter a magical forest of illuminated trees and lights with all your favourite characters, allowing great photos to be taken…get those selfies online now using #magicalforest

NEW: Mandarin Lanterns

Blackpool’s long-established Award winning Chinese restaurant, Michael Wan’s Mandarin, is also supporting Blackpool Illuminations, having signed up for a two year light box display between Gynn Island and the Hilton Hotel.

Returning Illuminations Bling – A stunning, sparkling jewellery-inspired section, sponsored by Beaverbrooks who celebrate their tenth year sponsoring the Illuminations.

Alice’s Garden – Co-designed by LLB and the in-house team, this stunning tableau will be situated by Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Drawing on the story of Alice in Wonderland and, in particular, the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, the design features a magical water garden and is perfect for those who wish to explore the illuminations on foot. It’s also huge, stretching for more than 100m and features an 8ft bridge. Visit Alice’s Garden one night and take a stroll! Alice Garden is sponsored by the Houndshill centre.

Dynamo – Both dynamic and

dazzling, this road-section of twenty major features, located near to south pier, includes multiple and ever changing spinning colours in a whirlwind of light. This sure fire crowd pleaser is sponsored by Eviivo.

Ballroom Glitz

Drawing on Blackpool’s reputation as the home of ballroom dancing thanks to the success of Strictly Come Dancing, our creative curator, Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, has designed Ballroom Glitz. The glamourous section will sit opposite the Sands Venue – who also generously sponsors the display – and you can bet there won’t be a sequin out of place.

24

Mirrorball Arches – Sponsored by Blackpool’s Knight Rigging Services, the arches welcome people into Blackpool at the south end of the Illuminations

Art for Walls – Sponsored by Graham and Brown, Art for Walls is the biggest gallery of original illuminated urban art in the world and is situated near The Metropole hotel

McDonalds – The iconic fast

food restaurant have signed a new three year deal to renew their sponsorship of the section outside their Promenade restaurant. We are grateful for their ongoing support.

Logo Lights – Businesses are being invited to see their name up in lights during this year’s Illuminations display. Introduced last year, “Logo Lights” give businesses a chance to have their logo displayed in the Illuminations. 150 slots are available which will be displayed on the famous Cliffs section opposite the Miner’s home building, North Shore. Head Lights – Similar to Logo Lights, the “Head Lights” feature is the interactive part of Blackpool Illuminations, allowing you, your dad or even your dog, to be up in lights. For 73 nights, the face/s you submit will keep the resort aglow.

The Stars of the Show include the Glitter Ball Gang, a group of friendly virtual children who act as guides throughout the Illuminations and have been voiced by local school children. The great part of using this app is the experience can be taken away with the visitor as the markers will be available to download from www.theblackpoolexperience.co.uk and can be easily printed at home to show family and friends. Visitors to the Illuminations can try the app for free and view a number of characters including the See 3D holograms of pirates, Greek gods and even Glitter Ball Gang before purchasing the full pack of zombies come to life using the latest augmented 3D holographic or subtitled video content priced at reality technologies. Take screenshots of what £1.99 and 69p respectively. you‘ve seen! Take screenshots with you and your friends with the 3D holograms!

LightPool Projections Three New Shows!

This year there are three new films which are a combination of fairytale fantasy and fact that will be displayed every evening on The Blackpool Tower buildings. Set to a mixture of light and sound, state of the art video mapping technology will bring you a once in a lifetime experience which you can watch for free from the surroundings of the newly designed LightPool Village. Down The Rabbit Hole is the tale of an astronaut exploring new worlds. The inspiration for this year is commander Tim Peake, the first British astronaut to board the International Space Station. The show explores a fantasy based loosely upon his remarkable mission of determination and ambition: a journey that will draw the audience into worlds without gravity: beautiful, fantastic, full of risk and uncertainty. The producers of the show are The Macula, an award winning projection video mapping company from the Czech Republic who have dazzled audiences throughout Europe with their shows and closer to home they gained great acclaim with a 2011 show on the Liver Buildings in Liverpool.

25

Enchanted Blackpool

This is a magical fairytale journey which looks at the wonderful architecture of the Tower building and brings it to life through a series of amazing characters that have been specially created for the show. This has been brought to you by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, his daughter Cecille and the Blackpool Illuminations design team, including Emma Campbell is our very own in-house animator on the project who has been expertly mentored by Dan Shorten of London’s Guildhall school of music- all of which has only been possible due to this CCF project.

Chasing Stars: Our Adventures in Space

Finally we come to the fact as we proudly present a science fact based show designed with education and entertainment in mind. Chasing Stars beautifully and imaginatively illustrates some of our more recent journeys into space, creatively utilising actual European Space Agency (ESA) 3D models and audio files for the ultimate in authenticity. Designed and produced by last year’s fabulous Guinness World Record holding show creators, The Projection Studio, and curated in association with the ESA and renowned astronomer Dr Nick Lister, this amazing show will also include the talents of local schools engaged in the project as well as having a hard fact based outlook.
