LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Catalyst of Hope,

As 2022 came to an end, 6 Stones Mission Network employees began packing boxes for a move. After 14 years of serving the community from the safety and security of the Campus West property, the time has come to transition to a new space. We will remain forever grateful for those years of serving directly across from Cross City Church. This time has allowed us to focus on serving those in the community in need instead of focusing on raising money to pay for a building or rent. The past year, our gratitude extends to the City of Bedford who became the property owners and allowed us to remain at Campus West with the same generous arrangement.

It is now time for 6 Stones to stand on our own feet. But we are not truly alone. The community that we’ve been serving alongside is still here supporting us. In fact, when one door closes another door opens. The City of Hurst has opened that door for us allowing us to have temporary space while we build our permanent Home for Hope in Euless. Our services will look slightly different during our transition – but we serve a great big God and He is still providing to ensure all programs will go on!

Inflation has hit everyone and many are making tough choices. “Do I pay rent or put food on the table? When I can’t do both, what can I cut?” We will continue to ensure that those in need of our services have a place where they can turn. The single mom, those struggling to make ends meet despite multiple jobs, those underemployed wanting to advance, students who feel overwhelmed and not supported, the veterans, the widows, and the elderly–anyone who wants to take that next step, we want to be there to walk alongside them!

Besides continuing to combat the effects of a continuing global pandemic, wars, inflation, and mental health challenges, 6 Stones has been able to build upon programs bringing about life transformation. LIGA HEB Intramurals has expanded to be a year-round program, we added Momentum mentoring at KEYS High School, and we have graduated 120 neighbors into a life of Momentum.

As you peruse these pages, one constant you will see is the sheer numbers of dedicated volunteers supporting each program. We could not have served over 23,000 neighbors this year without the 6,500 volunteers who made it all possible! Thank you for joining us on our mission: Sharing Hope through community mobilization.

Blessings,

“6 Stones is the first place, in my 59 years of living, that I’ve seen the love of Jesus.”

Deborah Baum grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. It’s where she went to school, got married, and raised her two children. When her husband asked for a divorce, it threw her for a loop, and she had to become self-sufficient very quickly. She was a hairdresser and home assistant, and was trying to recover from the financial low of the divorce.

In early 2020, things were good. She was working for a family with a business, had paid off her debts, had some dental work done, paid for a trip to the Dominican Republic with her son, and even had money in the bank. Then Covid hit, and like for so many other people, things rapidly fell apart.

“Due to the divorce, I got my car repossessed and house foreclosed upon. I had always been a giver and a tither until then but had nothing left. I was exhausted and stuck. There are so many more levels such as I was behind on my tax returns, I had identity theft, and used up all my savings. I was forced to move into a low-rent basement apartment in a not-so-nice area of town.” The landlord had divided it into 4 apartments and had not kept it up. Deborah soon realized she was living in a cesspool of black mold, and despite her attempts to clean the basement, one morning she simply didn’t wake up. A client rescued her out of that apartment, and she never returned.

She moved to Texas to be closer to her mom and brother, both of whom have health issues. Depression quickly set in, as she was far from home and her kids, lonely and out of work. “One day I almost ran my car into the concrete abutment on the highway,” Deborah remembers. “I was lost and felt like nobody cared.”

Then a neighbor suggested she go to 6 Stones’ New Hope Center for emergency food help. During

Covid, the NHC served neighbors in a drive-through format, and Deborah started coming each week to receive food assistance. After a while, NHC went back to an indoor format; Deborah kept coming and made a personal connection with Annette White, the 6 Stones New Hope Center Associate.

Annette suggested that Deborah go through the Momentum program, which is designed to give people Hope and a plan for life, matching each Mentee with a community Mentor who can help them navigate their difficulties in order to achieve their goals. Deborah’s Mentor was Amy, and this program was exactly what she needed. At this pivotal time, Deborah proclaimed, “I don’t know where God is going to take me but He brought me here, He brought me friends and He brought me Hope through this ministry.”

Through Momentum, Deborah got back on her feet. She dusted off her hairdressing skills and got a job in a salon, paid down her debt and regained her confidence in herself. In 2022, she was finally able to take that Dominican Republic trip with her son.

About 6 Stones, she says, “They want to help people…and that’s exactly the kind of place I have looked for. Now I volunteer [in the New Hope Center] every Monday. I give back... I cannot thank you enough for the help you’ve given me to move forward in my life.”

You too can recover your confidence and build Momentum in your life as a Mentee, or help others as a Mentor. See 6stones.org/momentum for more information about this free program and its upcoming sessions.
