MESSAGE FROM THE CEO God has been our sure compass throughout 2021. We are ending this year praising God for all our wonderful donors who continue to bless us through the sharing of their time, talents, and treasures.Your gifts are transforming lives and ending homelessness one person at a time. Over the past two years, the storms of life have rocked us backwards and forwards. Through it all, God has been our compass lighting our way as we continue to provide food, shelter, clothing, transportation, counseling, and rehabilitation services for His people. It is comforting during trying times to have the assurance and support of many people in the Dallas community, and that is a great encouragement to us.Your support allowed us to keep doing the ministry that God has called us to do. We realize our donors, volunteers and supporters are the true champions in our community, and we are just honored to serve on their behalf as further extension of their hands, feet, and heart as we minister to people. We praise God for all our faithful donors who have helped to shine light on our paths and encourage us through all the things that they do. Knowing God’s holy word is our compass and our supporters are lifting us up in prayer, we will be able to continue to minister to the last, the least, the lost and lonely. May God bless you. We wish you a Merry Christmas and joyous New Year! BRUCE BUTLER, CEO Chief Executive Officer

UGM DALLAS PROVIDES L I F E S AV I N G S H E LT E R The New Year brought below freezing temperatures that threatened the lives of the homeless living on the streets of Dallas. The team at UGM Dallas prepared in advance, coordinating with the City of Dallas, to open their doors and make extra room for those in need. There was an immediate outpouring of donations in the form of blankets, food, and money to help support the efforts to Shield the Homeless during the freezing temperatures. “Having a plan in place, our team quickly acted to make additional space available in our chapel area to accommodate the overflow of those seeking shelter,” noted Bruce Butler. If you are seeking ways to help our city’s most vulnerable individuals during cold winter weather, visit www.ugmdallas.org and donate today. As temperatures drop, we are in urgent need of warm clothing. Additional needs include: • Long sleeve shirts and pants for men, size XL to 3XL • Undergarments for men • Hats, gloves, scarves • Coats and jackets

You Made It Possible...

to Serve Our Homeless Community and Raise Funds HOMELESS TO HOPEFUL Alonzo came to Texas from Louisiana broken and in search of starting a new life. He made many mistakes and hurt the people closest to him in the process. Alonzo had reached rock bottom and had no one to turn to because of decisions in his past. Upon arriving at the Mission, Alonzo began helping with custodial duties around the Mission that soon lead him to working with the UGM kitchen staff. He became a part of the Discipleship program and applied the lessons learned in the program to his life. Alonzo now has a place of his own to live, a vehicle and works fulltime at UGM Dallas. Alonzo states, “The Holy Spirit came in and moved my sorrow and my pain; he opened my understanding to the word of God. Now I share that with everyone I meet.” Alonzo gives all glory to God and his chaplain mentors for helping him to get where he is today.

H O L I D AY R E C A P A N D T H A N K YO U Thank you to all the volunteers and to those who donated during the holiday season.Your kindness and generosity are appreciated and a blessing to those that we serve. We would like to highlight longtime friends and supporters, Macedonia Baptist Church in Mesquite. The day before Thanksgiving, Pastor John Livaudias, his amazing staff and congregation arrived on campus to deliver 800 homemade desserts to our guests. He continues the legacy of his father, Pastor F.L. Livaudais, who served at the Mission for many years as a chapel provider and started this wonderful tradition. One member, 93-year-old Sister Melba, contributed 8 homemade sugar free pies and cakes for those who are diabetic. We are so grateful and blessed by the heart of Pastor Livaudias and the congregation of Macedonia Baptist Church.

THE OPPOSITE OF H O G WA S H During the 1600s, potters used a clay called “pygg” to make dishes and jars. These containers were sometimes used to hold spare change and became known as “pygg pots.” By the 19th century, people began requesting their money jars be made into pig shapes – and the “piggy bank” was born. Modern “piggy banks” come in a variety of shapes and allow money to be added and withdrawn. But there’s a special grown-up piggy bank that securely holds your money until you’re ready to grant funds as a charitable gift. These “Donor Advised Funds (DAF)” are accounts where you can set aside money strictly for benevolence. People love DAFs because they’re: •

Simple. To bless a charity like Union Gospel Mission Dallas, you simply contribute to your DAF then distribute gifts when you’re ready to give.

Flexible. DAFs allow you to bless multiple organizations from one account. Plus, you can easily contribute a wide range of assets to fund a DAF..

Generational. While funds deposited into a DAF are irrevocable, the actual account can be easily transferred to your children. This ensures your loved ones carry on your legacy of generosity.
