Please remember there are multiple tools at our courts to help dry your courts. They each serve a specific purpose, so in order to extend the life of these tools, please use them accordingly. Upon arriving at your wet court, please use a roller or pull squeegee to spread out the large amounts of collected water. The BATT towels are to be used once the water has been dispersed to help dry the court in a more efficient manner. Please watch this quick video on the proper way to use the BATT towel here: https://battowel.com/video

Please remember to hang the squeegees and BATT towels back up on the inside of the fence when you have finished using them.

Please pet proof your house!

I have featured this subject in the past, but feel it’s definitely worth reminding us all again about the dangers of hazards throughout our homes. Electrical cords appear to be fun chew toys; antifreeze may taste sweet, but is is extremely poisonous; and our kitchens and garages are full of intriguing delicious “treats” that can be fatal. Here are several possible hazards especially for puppies who have plenty to learn.

KITCHEN/BATHROOMS

• Place medications, cleaners, chemicals and laundry supplies on high shelves

• Cover trash cans or place trash container in closed cabinet

• Use childproof latches to keep paws from prying open cabinets

• Small pets may drown in full bathtubs or even deep sinks

• Keep toilet lid closed. Toilet water is not healthy for pets to drink! Read that again!

• Make sure doors to washers & dryers are closed. Easy for little pets to crawl inside

• Keep food out of reach on counters. Even wrappers may be harmful

LIVING ROOM

• Place dangling wires out of reach

• Move common household plants

• Put away toys & games - little pieces can easily be swallowed

• Put away all sewing & crafts - thread & needs are very dangerous

• Be cautious with fireplacespets can be burned by flames or get sick if they eat the ashes

BEDROOM

• Keep any medications, lotions & cosmetics off of accessible surfaces

• Be careful not to close kittens in closets or dresser drawers

• Look out for paws, noses and tails when closing doors

GARAGE

• Move all chemicals to high shelves or behind secured doors

• Clean all anti-freeze from floor & driveway, as one taste can be lethal

• Bang on car hood to make sure cat (or neighbor’s cat) has not hidden in engine for warmth

• Keep all sharp objects and tools out of reach

A FEW OTHER GENERAL ITEMS: batteries

bread twist ties

buttons

coins

cotton swabs glass

hair pins

jewelry

nylons

paper clips

plastic wrap

socks

rubber bands

sharp objects of any kind (knives, razors, scissors, nails, needles, etc.)

Also, children don’t always know these hazards, so please try to teach them safety with your pets! Also, children often tend to squeeze or drop small animals as if they are toys, so keep an eye on your kiddos. Might even be a good idea to have a family meeting prior to bringing a new pet into your home and discuss how you can provide a comfortable and safe environment for your fur babies!

The Waves swim team is a recreational

children 5 years or older who can swim 25 yards unassisted. We focus on building stroke technique, team camaraderie and enjoyment for the sport. Swimmers will learn how to do all 4 strokes - freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly (freestyle and backstroke only for 6 & under age group). Swimmers will also enjoy fun activities such as treat days, “Fun Friday’s”, themed meets and swimmer of the week awards. Waves practices begin in May and continue through the end of June. Swim meets are usually held every Thursday in June (5:30pm start time) at local Forsyth neighborhoods with 2-3 meets taking place at home in Windermere.

Not quite ready for swim team? We also have a Ripples program for younger swimmers (4-6 years old) with whom our coaches work closely learning water safety, floating, kicking and basic stroke work. Ripples is a 4-5 week program that begins on May 28th after school is out.

Come join us in the swim team fun this summer - registration for the 2024 is open!

Please see our website for registration links: https://windermerewaves.swimtopia.com/. Registration fees, tentative practice and meet schedules, volunteer requirements and general team information are available on our website. Registration fees include a team t-shirt (must register by April 30th), league fees, team celebrations/treats and end of season banquet.

**For the Ripples feeder program ONLY, there are a limited number of spots available and registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis so please register at your earliest opportunity if interested.**

2024 parent information with all major topics for the season will also soon be available for review on our website. We look forward to a fun and exciting 2024 season!

Golf Cart Laws and Safety on Roadways

The Board of Directors is asking for your cooperation and assistance. We as a Board are very concerned about the rise of unlicensed youths operating golf carts.

In the event you don’t know the Georgia laws in this area, please see the information below that was prepared by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The bottom line is that no person should be at the wheel of a golf cart unless they have a valid drivers’ license.

In the coming weeks, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office will be stepping up enforcement of the Georgia Code. If the situation doesn’t resolve itself, the Sheriff’s Office has informed us that parents may be ticketed for allowing their children to illegally operate these vehicles.

As always, please call 911 or the non-emergency number at 770-781-3087 to report suspicious persons as well as unsafe or illegal operation of a motor vehicle.

Windermere Board of Directors

A golf cart, legally defined as a motorized cart, may operate on roadways when all of the following elements of law are met:

1) Operate during daylight hours only (O.C.G.A. 40-6-330). May, however, operate at night if they meet the equipment requirements of 49 Code of Federal Registry 571.500: headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals;

2) Operate only on a roadway with a posted maximum speed limit of 35 MPH or less (O.C.G.A. 40-6-362);

3) Must be equipped with an amber strobe light that is visible for 500 feet to the rear and front (O.C.G.A. 40-6-362)

4) The operator possesses a valid driver’s license (O.C.G.A. 40-520 and Coker v. State, Georgia Court of Appeals. June 13, 2003);

5) Slow Moving Emblem (16 inch red/orange retro-reflective triangle) is visibly attached to the rear (O.C.G.A. 40-8-4 (a)).

Other Restrictions:

6) Impeding the normal flow of traffic is prohibited: a golf cart or other may not drive “at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic” (O.C.G.A. 40-6-184), e.g., operating in a 35 mph zone that prevents a following vehicle from driving the posted speed limit.

7) Occupants: Children under the age of 6 prohibited from riding as a passenger, for “a child passenger restraining system” shall be provided in all passenger vehicles (O.C.G.A. 48-8-76). Occupants must only ride in a proper seat position.

Legal exemptions: Registration (tag) is not required (40-2-20 exempts motorized carts), and Insurance is not required (34-33-2 only registered vehicles require Insurance).

Calling All Volunteers!

POOL COMMITTEE:

The Windermere Pool Committee is looking for new membership. Our role is to promote the enjoyment, beauty, and safety of the aquatic facilities and amenities that enhance the Windermere community for all residents, including the Windermere Waves Swim Team. We typically meet on the third Monday of the month from approximately 6-730pm.

FINANCE COMMITTEE:

The Windermere HOA Finance Committee is looking for new members to join our team. You don’t need to be CPA, if you have relevant experience or a strong financial aptitude, and a desire to serve your community we need you. The Finance Committee is tasked with reviewing and approving Monthly and Year End Financial Statements, contracts, insurance coverage, Bi-Annual Outside Audit, Reserve Analysis and other expenditures. We also develop

annual budgets, and work with financial institutions that hold our funds. Approvals that we make usually are presented to the Windermere BOD for their review and vote. We typically meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 10:00AM at the Lodge, and the meetings generally are about 1 to 1 ½ hours in length.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE:

The Architectural Review Committee is looking to add one person to the committee. We are looking for someone who is interested in the appearance of our neighborhood. We would love to add someone with a great design eye to help in evaluating paint color selections and overall improvements submitted by our residents. The ARC committee meets the first Tuesday of the month. We vote on a few items throughout the month via email which makes some monthly meetings not necessary.

If you’re interested in any of the above committees please reach out to Stacy Maguire at windermereactivities@comcast.net and we will be in touch.

FREQUENT VIOLATION REMINDERS

We understand that no one wants to receive those pesky violation letters! The most frequent violations that can be easily avoided are:

GARAGE & YARD SALES

Individual or neighborhood garage sales, moving sales, rummage sales, yard sales or similar activities within Windermere are prohibited. Community-wide events have traditionally been scheduled twice per year.

MAILBOXES

Please make sure that mailboxes are not faded and that mailboxes numbers are easily visible.
