Spotlight ON THE BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION OF GEORGIA
DID YOU KNOW:
• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is the leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults.
• In 2008 in Georgia, there were over 50,000 TBI’s, caused by things such as
o Falls (49.88%)
o Car accidents (24.3%)
o Being struck by an object or person (14.3%)
o Violence or assault (11.4%)
• 5.3 million Americans, more than 2% of the population, live with disabilities as a result of TBI.
• In Georgia alone, an average of 150,000 people have permanent disabilities caused by brain injuries. Annually, approximately 50,000 Georgias suffer brain injuries, with an estimated more than 3,000 of those injuries resulting in permanent disabilities.
• Only 20% of people with brain injury are able to get rehabilitation and other services needed to aid recovery because of high insurance costs, insurance gaps, widespread lack of knowledge about brain injury, and a shortage of services.
• Brain injury often impoverishes families and costs society $48.3 billion annually.
• About 75% of TBI’s that occur each year are concussions or other forms of mild TBI.
A brain injury can happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone. Brain injuries do not discriminate. An injury that happens in an instant can bring a lifetime of physical, cognitive and behavioral challenges. Brain Injury affects the individual, family, friends, coworkers, and many other social networks. Roles in relationships change, and financial ramifications can be extensive. However, early and adequate access to care will greatly increase overall quality of life for the individual with a brain injury.
The Brain Injury Association of Georgia (BIAG) is a non-profit organization serving individuals with brain injuries, their families, friends and services providers. Their mission is to provide hope, help and support to the citizens of Geogia who have sustained or been affected by brain injury. They are dedicated
to increasing access to quality healthcare and raising awareness and understanding of brain injury through prevention, education, and advocacy. Together with its network of affiliates as well as support groups throughout the state of Geogia, BIAG is the voice of brain injury in Georgia for individuals, their families and the professionals who serve them. There are a number of ways to support BIAG:
• Be a Camp Volunteer: Camp BIG with BIAG on October 4-6 at Twin Lakes in Winder, GA is the organization’s biggest need for volunteers. Camp BIAG is a therapeutic, recreational camp for adults 18+ who are survivors of brain injury. It offers adults who have survived a brain injury an opportunity to have fun, to be with others who understand, and to engage in fun recreational activities. BIAG also offers a Caregiver Respite Camp at the same time for their loved one. BIAG needs one volunteer per camper to stay in a camper’s cabin, participate in activities with campers, and assist in daily living activities. Volunteers get to socialize and engage with an incredible population, help campers gain independence and confidence, and gain hands-on experience understanding and helping campers impacted by a brain injury. BIAG needs students, volunteers, medical staff (RNs/LPNs, doctors, EMTs), and anyone else who is passionate about brain injury. If a volunteer can’t commit for a weekend, they can help with check-in.
• Help with Stroll & Roll: A walk/roll/run event scheduled for October 19, 2024.
• Participate in events:
o BIAG Golf tournament at Topgolf Midtown on May 5, 2024, from 12-3 p.m.
o Stroll and Roll for BI Awareness at the 1st annual Roger Brathwaite Memorial Run on October 19, 2024.
• Volunteer your time and talents. Visit the website at www. braininjurygeorgia.org to access their volunteer form that lists the many ways in which you can help.
• Donations and sponsorships.
Please visit the BIAG website at www.braininjurygeorgia.org for more information.
BEGINS AT HOME Charity
We are lucky to live in a community of neighbors who are ready, willing and able to help each other in both big and small ways. That generosity is reflected in the number of different charities that Chateau Elan Residents support both financially and with their time and talents:
• Boy Scouts of America
• Brain Injury Association of Georgia
• Chateau Elan Military Support Group
• Eagle Ranch
• Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter
• Lighthouse Family Retreat
• Northeast Georgia Hospital Foundation
• Partnership Against Domestic Violence
• Rotary Club of Braselton
These are just a few of the organizations that CE residents hold near and dear to their hearts. In this and subsequent issues, we will turn a spotlight on a particular charity with the goal of explaining each charity’s mission and outlining ways in which our readers can help.
If you know of an organization that would like to be highlighted, please email reedchateauelan@gmail.com.

MARKET UPDATE - May 2024
No significant changes in interest rates and thus still sidelining some buyers. Inventory overall is still very limited but as expected in the Spring, there is more inventory coming available. To narrow down more specifically to homes in Chateau Elan, as of late April we currently have 22 active listings, 9 homes with pending sales and 14 homes that have closed since the first of the year. Keep in mind this does not include any private sales (not listed in the multiple listing service) and does not include all new construction sales (some have sold prior to being officially listed). There are also 3 lots actively listed for sale. The average list price for the active home listings is $1,712,000, with only 5 of the 22 homes under $1,000,000. The average list price for the homes under contract is $1,068,000. The average sold price for homes closed since 1/1/2024 is $1,152,000 with 5 out of the 14 under $1,000,000. Note that if all new construction sales were included that number would be higher, Brookstone Village has been very successful. If you drive around the neighborhood you will also see some of the last remaining lots have active construction going on. Fountainhead (Chateau Elan Developer) still has parcels they own adjacent to the Chateau Elan neighborhood, there seems to be some activity with surveying and such but at this time there have been no official announcements.

Chateau Elan is a desirable neighborhood choice and sales have been overall very good throughout the various sections. Having an agent that knows the market is key to accomplishing your real estate goals. The Chateau Elan neighborhood is a very special placwe to live and where we call “HOME” as well. The neighborhood is also very confusing and overwhelming given the numerous HOAS, various amenity options/requirements and the wide variety of homes. It is important to have a real estate professional that understands the neighborhood and can make the process as smooth as possible for everyone involved. Team Tatro takes great pride in our hands-on approach to marketing/presenting your home by being present at the showings to showcwase all the features, advantages and benefits of your home, the neighborhood and the surrounding community. Please reach out to us for a confidential conversation about your real estate goals.
