ANNUAL BUDGET PREPARATION GUIDELINES AND PROCESS

Before we talk about the budget guidelines and process, lets discuss why the budget is such an important and integral part of the HOA Board of Directors overall responsibility and duties to our Cresswind community.

Board Responsibilities

Employ best management practices and sound business principles to make sound decisions with respect to managing the Association’s common property and improvements and administering the Governing documents.

Use prudent fiscal judgment in the use of funds and assets belonging to the Association.

Board Duties

Prepare and adopt in accordance with the Community Charter, an annual budget establishing each owner’s share of the common expenses.

Budget Preparation

The steps involved include:

Setting realistic goals: Our Cresswind budget is compiled on a Zero-based budget. Zero-based budgeting is a method of budgeting in which all expenses must be justified for each new period. The process of zero-based budgeting starts from a “zero base,” and every function within an organization is analyzed for its needs and costs. The budgets are then built around what is needed for the upcoming period, regardless of whether each budget is higher or lower than the previous one.

Identify our Income and Expense items: Our budget template is equal to the Profit and Loss configuration of our reported monthly financial statements. Therefore, making a comparison of actual income and expenses very meaningful to our Budgeted income and expenses monthly.

Budget Process

The budget management team of the Board Treasurer, Board President and Community Association Manager meet weekly to establish the next year’s expenses and

income based on:

Contractual amounts. Set amounts based on signed contracts until expiration date. The 2023 budget includes a new lawn maintenance contract and existing Spectrum contract.

Historical Data. Prior years expenses based on the units purchased and inflationary increases. An example would be utilities and supplies.

Annual worksheets. An example is the Lifestyle events planned by month for the new year or reserve study analysis for the upcoming year to correctly budget by month the income and expenses required.

Estimates. Certain expenses for our Contingency (Unbudgeted) expenses like storm damage expenses are best estimates based on historical data and trends.

Once the Budget Management team has reviewed all the expenses and income, the Treasurer reviews the entire budget line by line with the Budget and Finance Committee.

The purpose of this committee is as follows:

• Participate as requested by the Treasurer in budget development

• Explore various strategies for investment, spending trajectories, or other matters as requested

• Help to foster trust among residents regarding our fiscal governance

• At the Treasurer’s request, provide input regarding decisions the Treasurer is recommending to the Board

Once the budget has been approved by the Budget and Finance Committee, the final approval comes from the HOA Board of Directors.

The Treasurer will review every line item to ensure that all income and expenses are understood and agreed upon so that the HOA Board of Directors gives the final approval.

The approved budget is then sent to the management company for inclusion in the financial statements of the new year and printing of the announcement letter of the new budget and HOA fee structure sent to all households.

Page 4 The WATERFALL November/December 2022 HOA BOARD MESSAGE

FROM THE DESK OF KITTI KLEINEDLER

This year 2022 is waning away. It has been a good year of regaining a sense of normalcy following two years under the influence of Covid. As I write this, I am listening to the horrible reports of the impact Hurricane Ian is having on so many others. Some places most hard hit will have to create a new normal. I imagine most Cresswinders know of someone that was affected by that tragedy. I know of several myself. How quickly an otherwise “good year” changed for them.

The upcoming holiday season is one of thankfulness and giving. We will have a toy drive for less fortunate children in December. The Veteran’s Club is having a clothing drive for those who have served our country and are now in need. There

are plans to have “charity” tables at the October Holiday Market to support causes beyond our own backyard. All of these activities are designed to help those in need. In spite of rising inflation and declining stock market, I am confident that Cresswinders will find a way to help others in some way – whether through service, monetary, material donations, or prayer. Our blessings are too numerous to count or ignore.

With the upcoming holiday seasons, please keep in mind our Community Rules & Regulations guidelines:

HOLIDAY LIGHTING & SEASONAL DISPLAYS

(1) Holiday lighting displays may be installed within thirty days before the holiday and are to be removed within fifteen days after the holiday has ended.

(2) Such lighting and displays must be consistent

with the general style of the neighborhood. As an example, lighted reindeer of medium height are acceptable while balloon-type inflatable figures, blink-track racing lights, or displays that are very large and spread across a property are not.

(3) Mailboxes: No signs or other objects may be hung from any mailbox other than temporary seasonal decorations which should not obscure the property address numbers.

(4) Flags and Banners: one small seasonal/ decorative flag may be displayed in the front yard.

WelcomeCommittee News

The Cresswind Welcome Committee is still reaching out to new residents with all of them being resales. Our members are sending cards, calling, and offering their support. We let the residents know they can call us, and we will help them in any way we can. LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE

DON’T FORGET FALL LANDSCAPE CHORES

The intense heat is gone, warm dry days are followed by cool nights. The rich autumn colors are a delight, but there is much to do to prepare for the winter and the next spring plantings.

Water is critical, water twice a month for a good soaking.

For the perennials and ornamental grasses, don’t be in a hurry to cut them back. The seed heads are showy and is important bird food. Once they die back, cut them to allow new growth in the spring. Clear up dead leaves and add a layer of new mulch.

Now is the time to divide the hostas, plant new spring bulbs like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. Don t forget to weed!

Also, now is the time to plant trees and shrubs, because it provides the best environment for them to become established. Transplant shock may be reduced when the plants and trees are in their winter dormancy period, it just gives them max time to grow.

Don t feed the plants . . .while the lawn, trees and shrubs need fertilizer, the plants do not, because they are on the

verge of dormancy. Feeding them will only stimulate growth that would later be vulnerable to harsh freezes.

Pruning is a fall chore, as their growth period is ending, and they start into dormancy, some varieties should be pruned. A radical pruning should wait until the spring, it will only stimulate new growth that may freeze.

Put on a late summer show with fall décor and planter ideas. Marigolds, zinnias, dusty miller, or mums are all great for vibrant colors. Ornamental kale or cabbage, add sage and asters, pansies, and verbena. Ornamental grasses with a color spectrum in different shades of reds, oranges, and gold. Add pumpkins, squash, and other gourd family members to make whimsical fall gardens on porches and entryways. Happy Gardening!

Page 8 The WATERFALL November/December 2022 COMMITTEE CORNER
NEW RESIDENTS!

TRAILS AND PATHWAYS COMMITTEE

The newly-created Trails and Pathways Committee has been busy – transitioning into new responsibilities and roles. The Committee roles include Chair (Dave Rames), Vice Chair (Paula Burzotta), Secretary (Mark Nestle), Communications (Lynne Hayden) and two teams: Trail Leaders and Lumberjacks. Please contact Dave at dave.rames@att.net to report maintenance issues or to join the team. Our primary responsibilities are to assist the HOA Board of Directors by planning the construction of future trails and pathways and assisting with the maintenance of existing trails, trail heads, and pathways.

Maintenance and Improvements – Existing Cresswind LL Trails

We’re delighted that nearly all of our former Club members, who have been monitoring and maintaining our trails for several years, will continue these important efforts. One group, dubbed “the Lumberjacks,” is a small group of dedicated volunteers who manage major maintenance actions for our existing trails – clearing downed trees, removing hazards, and dealing with rain/flooding/ water issues.

Spotlight on our Trails – Bluebird and Robin

Our community has six beautiful Trails across both north and south sections of our property. Five of the trails are represented on the map on our Cresswind website (LIFESTYLE>HIKING TRAILS). If you haven’t been on our trails for a while, know that Autumn and Winter are beautiful times to explore them!

Blue Bird and Robin Trails

Consensus from our community’s hikers point to both Blue Bird or Blue Bird + Robin Trails as our “favorites” – easily accessible, relatively smooth terrain, an ideal length, and such beautiful landscapes and wildlife. Dogwoods, red cedar, 200’ treetops, a shady, cool canopy, and plenty of deer, small critters, and birds!

When asked, our hikers report that Blue Bird is “a destination” and Blue Bird + Robin Trails are “an ideal short cut from our Dog Park to the Clubhouse”. Take a look at the map and you’ll see - they are right! Rather than walking the sidewalks, grab a walking stick, wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals, please), and lose yourself in vast green and fall colors, shade and cool, woodsy smells, and babbling brook that are just steps away!

We suggest you start at the entrance across from the Dog Park on Cresswind Parkway. Head down a few steps and to the right and follow the path and signs. Mid-way on the trail, you’ll see the signs for the Robin Trail that will take you toward the Clubhouse. And don’t miss the small trailhead veering off Robin mid-way for a restful moment on a bench overlooking the steam. A great spot for photos.

Whether you choose to complete both Blue Bird and Robin, or to follow Blue Bird from end-to-end, we are sure you’ll be refreshed and delighted with your journey. Tip: Parking on the streets is discouraged, so please consider walking to the trails, or using Club House parking.

REFURBISHMENT COMMITTEE

In case you have not heard, we are in the process of renovating and refurbishing the Clubhouse. Following 10 years of active seniors enjoying one of the most beautiful facilities on Lake Lanier, “Senior Camp” Cresswind Clubhouse, a little refreshing was needed. In keeping with the Reserves Budget, it was determined to focus on the Main and 3rd floors first. The painting is complete, artwork has been repositioned, drapes have been cleaned, windows tinted, and recarpeting the 3rd floor is in the works. More is still to come but we will leave that to pleasantly surprise you! The Refurbishment Committee members have overseen the entire project from color selections to redecorating which saves the community a great deal of design expenditures. A special thank you to each of them: Peggy Siewart, Cathy Hans, Arlene Teare, Abby Saccomanno, Flo Swartz, and Cheryl Thompson. Please keep your eyes open to see more information in the Cresswind Daily Update, the HOA Board Bulletin newsletter, and the future edition of the Waterfall magazine.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE SEEKS

PROGRAM IDEAS

The Education Committee meets monthly to consider topics and plan programs of interest to Cresswind residents. So far this year, we’ve offered sessions on the history of Cresswind at Lake Lanier; how to recognize the signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia; ideas for decluttering your home; the process of advance care planning; practicing mindfulness for mental health; and many others. As always, we welcome our neighbors’ suggestions. Have an idea for a program topic? Contact co-chairs Tim Roth at (678) 481-9852 or doctorr4tim@gmail. com or Betsy Robertson at (334) 740-7926 or betsyjrobertson@charter.net.

CRESSWIND EXTERIOR HOME PAINTING

Congratulations on deciding to paint your home! Home upkeep contributes directly to maintaining our property values. The exterior design of our homes, including the selection of paint colors, enhances the beauty of our neighborhoods. The information below only applies to the exterior of your home; you do not need approval for painting inside your home.

Painting Related Regulations

1. You do not need permission to repaint your house in its original colors. However, you do need to file an External Improvement Form (EIR-1). This allows First Service to record that you have painted your home.

You can obtain an External Improvement Form (EIR-1) at the front desk, or by visiting the Cresswind Website click on Resources/Exterior Modifications/Exterior Home and Landscape Improvement Form and complete the EIR-1 form. Print the completed form and submit at the Clubhouse.

2. If you are changing the color scheme of your home, there are several options to choose from. Please be aware that the scheme you choose must be different than the two houses on either side of you and the house directly across the street. You are NOT permitted to “mix and match” colors from one scheme to another.

• For Kolter homes: you have a choice of 28 color schemes used by Kolter. These schemes are available to review at the clubhouse front desk, or by visiting the Cresswind Website click on Resources/Exterior Modifications/Photos of Materials and Paint Color Schemes.

• For Levitt homes: you have a choice of any of the Kolter color schemes as well as any approved Levitt schemes.

The Levitt color schemes are available for viewing in the paint schemes book at the clubhouse front desk.

3. Homeowners may choose to use a “sheen” on the exterior.

• Siding: Sheens ranging from flat to semi-gloss may be used on siding. This includes flat, matte, satin (eggshell) and semi-gloss.

• Trim & Accents: Sheens of semi-gloss and gloss may be used on trim and accent areas, including shutters and doors.

4. Homeowners may request the following color exceptions for front doors and shutters. Approval by the ARC is required. Submit request on EIR -1 Form.

Blue Door with Shutters

• SW 6237 - Dark Night

Blue Door Only

• SW 9150 - Endless Sea

• SW 7617 - Mediterranean

• Behr HDC CL28 - Nocturne Blue

Black Door with Shutters

• SW 6258 - Tricorn Black

Red Door Only

• SW 7585 - Sun Dried Tomato

• SW 7583 - Wild Currant

5. There is NO requirement to use Sherwin-Williams paint. All Kolter and Levitt color schemes are given using SherwinWilliams paint numbers, but you can match another brand to these colors. The ARC is focused on the color, not on the brand of paint.

6. When the job is complete, please notify the Cresswind Community Manager so the EIR-1 can be closed.

The Health and Fitness Committee would like to thank Jackie Edginton for all the work she has put in as our chairman through a number of challenging years. She has resigned from the Committee to pursue other ventures. We welcome Julie Strickland as our new chairman and look forward to the knowledge and leadership she brings to the Health and Fitness Committee.

As of Monday October 10th, we have added an ongoing Pilates Mat class at 4:00-5:00 in the Lanier Room. It is taught by Karin Carlson who is a certified instructor. My article in the last Waterfall explains the class and the benefits it can offer. Hopefully, you will give it a try.

Our well attended and informative Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, January 21, 2023.

Many people believe that as the colder weather approaches it is not as important to consume the same amount of water as when the weather is hot. Water is the most important substance the body consumes no matter the time of year.

Water regulates body temperature and carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells and organs, while also washing the interior of the body removing waste material and toxins. Relying on thirst is not the best way to monitor your water consumption.

Symptoms of dehydration such as headache, fatigue, muscle cramps, and fuzzy thinking can begin before your thirst signals you to drink. Drinking water steadily over the course of the day is the best way to stay adequately hydrated.

Seniors are at a greater risk for dehydration because of how body composition changes with age. People who are on certain medications and have diseases such as diabetes may not have a strong sense of thirst. Many of the liquids we consume such as coffee, soda, alcoholic beverages, and caffeinated tea have a diuretic effect boosting urine output which may dehydrate the body.

Consuming enough water can help the body avoid developing kidney stones by keeping crystals from forming. Consuming more water can aid weight control because many people confuse thirst for hunger. It can help improve constipation and urinary tract infections. Dental and oral health can be improved because keeping the mouth moist creates more saliva which washes away food and organisms that cause gum disease, bad breath, and other dental issues.

Considering that we can lose two and a half quarts of water daily you can understand the necessity of replenishment. Take your medications with a full glass of water. Sip on water throughout the course of the day using a container with a straw. Eat your fruits and veggies. Foods with a high-water content tend to be low in calories and often high in volume and fiber. Reap the benefits of being adequately hydrated throughout the colder months ahead.

BIBLE STUDY CLUBS

• Jim Warder

• Bob Green

• Ron Parker

• Charlie McGee

Jim Cook

Joel Provano

After some very good opening matches the finals came down to Jim Cook and Ron Parker with Jim Cook taking home the trophy.

For those not familiar with the club, it is open to all Cresswind residents (Male and Female), we have leagues, tournaments, and general open play/practice. CIC INVESTMENT CLUB

On October 11th, CIC Investment Club members welcomed Cresswind residents to a lunch presentation on Capital Market Insights by Greg Davis, Managing Director of MFS. Len Greco, CIC Investment Club President, expressed his gratitude to Jeffrey Sulka, financial advisor of Edward Jones, for hosting the program and his ongoing support for many other Cresswind programs and activities.

Len invited interested guests to join the group at an upcoming meeting held at 1 PM in the clubhouse kitchen on the first Monday of the month. Regularly scheduled agenda items include a team research presentation on a particular market segment. Every member is also a “stock advocate” reporting updated findings on club securities with recommendations to buy, sell or hold. After general discussion, the club members vote on investment opportunities.

Len emphasized member participation as a key factor of the group’s success particularly through this year’s volatile financial environment. The other factor is education – sharing and learning from each other.

Membership is limited to 30 members but there are current openings. Please contact Len Greco at lengreco1104@aol.com or Cathy Hoskinson at cathy. hoskinson@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

COOKING CLUB

What is involved in the Cooking Club?

First of all, we have a membership of over 500 residents who love to party and learn different methods of cooking while we are enjoying ourselves. It’s not always about the recipe but it is about having fun while we are doing it.

Our Cooking School is, I have to say, one of the best in the state of Georgia. Our Cooking School is led by Lynn Hayden who typically has classes each

month for lunch and dinner. Many of our menus are led by members in the community who have a secret talent we knew nothing about. So, join in the fun, if you’re not a member, our membership drive starts in January and will end in March of 2023. The dues are only $5.00 per person. This enables you to participate in our events such as Derby Day, Mardi Gras and the best part is opportunity to enter into the Cooking School lottery. The Cooking School has more interest than tickets. So, in 2022 we offered the ability to enter your name in the lottery if you have interest in the Cooking School class. If your number is drawn, you have the option of purchasing one or two tickets and enjoying one of the best meals you will ever have.

As a member of the Cooking Club, you also have the opportunity to lead an event. If you don’t see something we have planned, step on up and let’s get it done!

CREATIVE SPACES

The Artist Corner Club had their second annual CREATIVE SPACES event in early October and were delighted at the community response once again. Thanks to all who attended! Here are some photos of a few of the participating artisans.

LIVING STYLISHLY CLUB

Living Stylishly’s October Fashion Show was a big hit! We co-sponsored this event with the Ladies Luncheon Club and enjoyed working with Dillard’s as they featured their fall designs. Living Stylishly members modeled some of their latest fashions. Everyone enjoyed the colorful decorations, luncheon, fashion show and wonderful door prizes.

Our annual meeting was held on November 1, and a review of 2022 was featured. This past year our members had the opportunity to enjoy these various activities: a “Kick off the Year” wine social at Cork It, a fun painting pottery session at “Outside the Lines” studio, an amazing outing to Savannah College of Art and Design to view award winning Christian Siriano’s celebrity gowns, a shopping spree at the Lakewood 400 Antique Market, a visit to America’s Mart, a presentation on Safety Tips titled What Would You Do?, participation in our Cresswind Mardi Gras Parade, and our November meeting featuring a creative table setting demonstration. It was a great year with lots of member participation.

At the annual meeting, we announced our new board members, and everyone is looking forward to 2023 with a variety of fun and informative activities for the new year!

We are wrapping up a great summer full of Pickleball matches and lots of laughter. To wrap up the year, we are looking forward to the fantastic Reed Financial sponsored tournament and dinner on Saturday, October 15th. The Pickleball Board has been hard at work planning this highlight event of the year. We thank all the folk who have graciously volunteered their time and talents to make this happen.

The new Douglas nets for courts 4A and 4B should be arriving soon. Thanks to our sponsor, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, for providing the funds for these nets. We will also install the new wind screens this fall. We are looking forward to having these added improvements to our courts.

In November the Pickleball Club will hold

THE CLL RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS TEAM (RAOK)

EVERYONE is struggling with something! Could be anything from an unending irritation, annoyance, or inconvenience all the way to something life-altering, like loss or despair. These struggles can sometimes lead us to be unnecessarily irritable, rude, and/or dismissive in our everyday interactions with people. They can also cause us to distance ourselves from others and lead us to feel isolated and lonely even when we are in a crowd.

It is a ‘truism’ within human nature that whatever ‘heavy weight’ is compressing our sense of well-being and/or over-occupying our mind, it can be made ‘lighter’ by unexpectedly being the recipient of someone else’s random act of kindness, thoughtfulness, or caring.

The CLL Random Acts of Kindness Team continues to fulfil its mission and purpose by randomly (and anonymously) leaving a small set of solar-powered butterflies, flowers, and/or lighted garden statues in

the front shrub beds of CLL homeowners, along with a printed notecard expressing ‘Butterfly Blessings’ and fond thoughts.

The notecard is adorned with a photograph of an actual Monarch Butterfly born, fed, and freed from our Butterfly Breeding Hut located in our CLL Community Garden. Aside from their critical ecological role, butterflies have long been adopted as symbols of hope, caring, renewal, and bright futures. What could be a better symbol for living in this community?

While the notecard is for homeowners to keep, the lighted shrub bed ornaments will ‘fly away on magic wings’ after a few days and alight elsewhere to convey “Butterfly Blessings” to other CLL friends and neighbors.

If you have been a recipient of Butterfly Blessings, you can share your thoughts and reactions directly to the RAOK team at raokindness2021@gmail.com, or share them on the CLL Cresswind Neighbors Facebook Page.

DANCE RHYTHMS CLUB

On September 21st, the Team Cresswind Dance Rhythms “Cheerleaders” performed for the Community Fund audience. Amy Devillez, Lou Dunn, Debbie King, Wendy O’Hanlon, Mary Ramatowski, and Mimi Szutz really enjoyed dancing to a slightly modified routine from Wendy’s Dance class.

Wendy has resumed her Sunday classes at 3:30 pm in the Lanier Room and she has also recently added a few new routines, so it is never too late to come check out her class! Unlike line dancing, the movements are primarily kept to the front wall and there are verbal cues to make it easier to follow. Each routine has choreographed movement for all extremities and provides a good cardio level of exercise. Dance sneakers are best but a supportive athletic shoe with some wear to the sole is a great substitute. Feel free to stop in and observe a class and if you have any questions, please contact Wendy at golfgirl2011@att.net.

SHALOM CLUB

In Shalom Club News, we are happy to share a fun program we had in September. We enjoyed “happy hour”

on Friday, September 30th to toast the “New Year” (Rosh Hashanah celebrated in the Fall). We enjoyed lots of delicious food and eating challah and apples and honey, traditional observances. Thanks to everyone who brought food and helped with set up and clean up! We wish all our Cresswind Neighbors a very Happy, Healthy and Sweet New Year.

The Shalom Club will be celebrating Hanukah with the lighting of the menorah in the clubhouse every evening during the holiday (Sunday, December 18th – Sunday, December 25th). We welcome all of our Cresswind neighbors to join us during Hanukah. We will celebrate with a Hanukah party after candle lighting on Tuesday, December 20th eating traditional foods of potato pancakes (latkes) and jelly donuts. Attendance fee for this event will be $5.

If you would like to join the Shalom Club or want more information about the Club, please reach out to Miriam Rosenberg (grammycooks716@gmail.com) 954-501-9249 or Karen Walters (karsuew@gmail.com) 301-461-1900.

SOCIAL SINGLES CLUB

Submitted by: Barbara Hillick

Because Summer is over doesn’t mean it’s time for you to stop having fun! If you want to meet new people or reconnect with old friends, Social Singles is here for you.

Game nights and social mingles are on the upcoming schedule. If bowling is the way you roll but you don’t want the pressure of playing competitively, we have fun monthly games. Like short putts and not having to jump in and out of a golf cart constantly? Miniature golf is always a great way to have fun and test putting skills. Luncheons or dinners at various restaurants, theatre going parties, kayaking, hikes, and many other activities are also in the works.

Although there is a Holiday party planned, the club is not all about partying (although having fun is still important). A Veteran’s Potluck and a Friendsgiving are in the works. Members also help pack boxes at the Good Samaritan Food Bank and contribute to other community projects.

If you are single, want to meet people and get involved, join us. We appreciate new ideas and having fun with our members. Head to the Cresswind website, access the Social Singles link and share your contact information. Contact us soon so you won’t miss upcoming events!

TENNIS CLUB

Submitted by: Sandy Barmak

After our steaming hot summer, it was delightful to play tennis during the cooler fall weather.

Our resident mixed doubles tennis league enjoyed 6 weeks of fun competition. Thank you to Gerry Cieply and Mary Hensien who captained the Kicking Aces and Greg Hilger and Lisa Lievense who captained the Wise Aces, for the time and effort that they

put into the league to make it a success. The Wednesday evening Men’s Doubles group, led by Danny Brown and Roger Otto, plays at 5:30 and is going strong. They plan to continue through the winter. If you would like to participate, you can contact dannybrown58@comcast.net or raotto1@ yahoo.com.

Our competitive teams were also in action this fall. Our men’s Silverball team led by Dan Skeels played on Monday mornings. The ladies USTA 3.0 55+ team also played on Monday mornings and is captained by Cindy Halperin with Debbie Cortjens as her co-captain. Most of the time we were able to arrange home matches on different Mondays, so we didn’t need to ask our Pickleball friends for the use of all 6 courts.

Our Social Committee led by Judy Mota and Judy Cox planned a Mixed Doubles round robin social for October 22nd. Hopefully the weather did not ruin those plans since these round robins are lots of fun for everyone involved and a good opportunity to mix and mingle with our fellow tennis players. We are all looking forward to our Holiday Celebration on December 1st in the Crow’s Nest. The festivities will include food, drinks, and plenty of time to socialize.

Our intrepid clinic leader, Bill Papciak and his talented volunteer instructors, continue to offer free clinics, weather permitting, 3 times per month. These clinics are open to the entire Cresswind community. Anyone who wants to become reacquainted with tennis, sharpen their skills or learn new strategy is welcome to attend. Watch the Daily Update for information about these clinics.

Our Annual Meeting will be held on November 9th when we will install a new slate of officers for next year. The names of the new officers will be in the next Waterfall issue. If you would like information about all the events of the CLL Tennis Club, you can check out our website, https://cresswindll.wixsite.com/cwtennis. You can also contact our president, Sandy Barmak at sandybarmak@ gmail.com.

CRESSWIND VETERANS CLUB

Our Cresswind Veterans Club has been extremely busy and productive over the past few months! Visit our redesigned website at https://www.cresswindveterans.org/ to see some of the many club results an activities. The website lists all ongoing programs to help Veterans in need and some short stories of these efforts. The redesigned website, developed to make navigation and use easier, was accomplished thanks to the hard work of Beverly Taylor and Bob Ruhala, with support from Gene Bramblett and Gary Halperin. We thank each of them and appreciate their work on this project.

A few examples of the Veterans Club recent activities include helping three (3) Veterans and their families by providing financial assistance for rent, car payments, utilities, and groceries. Additionally, the Veterans Club donated to Habitat for Humanity for the cost of materials to install a chair ramp at a Veteran’s residence. And currently, we are helping a 43-year-old Veteran who suffers from combat medical issues sustained in the War in Iraq who currently cannot provide for his family of two (2) young children living with him. This veteran has recently suffered a massive heart attack and will be undergoing back

surgery in the coming months.

Our Hospice Program participated in three (3) Veteran recognition services around Hall County. If you have a desire to assist and get involved with this great program, please contact any Board members for information, or email Bill Edmondson at wke2003@bellsouth.net.

The Veterans Club Casino Night was held on September 23. This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and was a huge success. Because of your generous participation, we raised much needed funds to continue to serve the many local veterans in need. Over 240 admission tickets were sold, along with raffle tickets for prize drawings. The club also collected sponsorships from many area businesses. This has always been a big event for Cresswind, and we have missed having it the past couple years due to Covid. The club was glad to see everyone there socializing and helping support our many veteran missions. Thank you to the many volunteers that provided appetizers and helped during the event, and Thank you Cresswind!

CRESSWIND NEIGHBORHOOD THEATRE

Submitted by: Richard St George

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR. Cresswind Community Chorus is in high gear preparing this year’s HOLIDAY MUSIC CELEBRATION which will take place ThursdaySaturday, December 8-10 at 7:00pm each evening in the ballroom. Tickets are $10 and will go on sale mid-November.

There will be 100 singers in the full chorus and several special ensembles. Besides Chorus, you will hear music from the Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Cresswind Chorale, Lisa Phifer, Holiday Ukulele Band, Schrader duet, 3’s a Charm Trio, the UpChucks and the Dancing Raggedy Ann Dolls.

The Cresswind Neighborhood Theatre will be presenting their Fall production of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A LIVE 1940 RADIO SHOW on November 17-19 at 7PM in the ballroom. This heartwarming classic is a show within a show. It’s December 24, 1946 in Studio A at WBFR Radio, and a cast of actors is preparing to present It’s a Wonderful Life live to the listening audience. With the help of only a sound-effects artist, the ensemble re-enacts the story of George Bailey, a young man whose dreams of traveling the world are thwarted by his sense of responsibility to the family business. Down on his luck, Bailey, compassionate yet disheartened, is at the end of his rope. He questions his purpose in life and considers ending it all. Just then, an angel arrives to show Bailey how the lives of those he loves would be affected if he were not around. The story’s message is profound and remains relevant for today’s audiences.

Tickets are $15 and will be available ONLINE. Please visit our webpage for more information on the show and how to purchase tickets www.cresswindpa. com/wonderful-life.

Cresswind residents which the audiences enjoyed. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Our monthly Storytelling sessions are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 3:00pm in the Ballroom and usually include 10 stories and as many or more members just listening. These sessions are mini storytelling events.

We would love for you to join our meetings to listen or tell a story, (there are no dues). Our stories unite us through our life’s journey. Please come to the next meeting of the Cresswind Storytellers & have FUN! Remaining Storytelling sessions for 2022 are November 17th and December 15th. Everyone is welcome to tell a story or just listen!

VARIETY SHOW 2022

On September 15th and 16th, the 9th Annual Variety Show entertained over 350 audience members. Both nights were filled with singing, dancing, instruments, jugglers, jokes, laughter and more laughter. Over 60 Cresswind residents worked together both onstage and behind the scenes to present this highly entertaining event. The Variety Show comes around every September and you won’t want to miss next year’s performance as it will be our 10th anniversary!! The exact dates have yet to be determined, so just keep September 2023 on your calendars! See you in September!!!

2023. Cresswind offers many forms of dance, along with the art of Tai Chi taught by Cheryl Vassiliadis. Wendy, along with her CPAC liaison Debbie Seymour, are currently organizing an original event featuring our professional instructors as well as Ballet, Ballroom, Cardio Line Dance, Choreography, Clogging, Hawaiian Hula, and Tai Chi.

Do you have a hidden dance talent and have a desire to perform? We are excited to offer the opportunity to dance on a larger floor space measuring approximately 26 x 18 feet. You do not have to be active in one of our clubs or classes to participate, as of October 1st we still have a couple openings. Our most important requirement is your availability from January 24th – January 28th for Tech Night, Dress rehearsal and performances. Also, unique to our show, the audience will have more front row seating allowing for an overall more intimate experience than any other indoor CPAC event. Chairs will be placed in a “U” shape around the Lanier Room dance floor. Please contact Wendy O’Hanlon, at golfgirl2011@att.net if you wish to participate and for a list of specific details for our event. There will be a limit on the number of performances and the deadline for submitting your information to Wendy is November 15, 2022.

KARAOKE CLUB

JANUARY 2023 DANCE SHOWCASE EXTRAVAGANZA

A NEW club, Art in Motion, Dance & More has recently joined CPAC and will perform in a Dance Showcase on January 26 and 27,

The Karaoke Club has had a great start! We have had great attendance and it continues to grow. Last month we had an amazing visitor who entertained us with some songs. This gentleman makes his home in New York and his father lives here in Cresswind. What a treat to have a Broadway talent come and sing on our stage. Please join us every third Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the Ballroom. Enjoy singing? This is the place for you! Not interested in singing but love to listen, please come and enjoy your neighbors singing and you never know who may be there to entertain you. We hope to see you there! Your Karaoke Committee – Heidi, Kelly, Kevin and Lisa.
