The question we get most often is "Why is it called SheilaFest?" “In 2015, one of our beloved residents and social committee members – Sheila Anderson – had a massive heart attack and nearly lost her life. A true music lover, Sheila was inspired by her second shot at life to launch a music festival at Traditions of Braselton. The festival is named as a living tribute to her – after all, that’s what this community is all about… those special individuals that are an integral part of the whole. Sheila’s ideas, connections to local bands and countless hours of work to pull together something amazing with the help of her friends and neighbors in the community resulted in one of the largest events Traditions of Braselton has ever hosted. We expect this year to be even bigger and better than ever. I – for one – can’t wait!”

NEWS FROM THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE So, what does iServe do? In 2020, iServe gave away

$2,800,000 worth of food to those in need

THE ISERVE VISION To end generational poverty in the communities we serve through meeting practical needs and teaching life skills

iServe’s mission is to bridge the gap between the body of Christ (the church) and the community, together with one another serving those in need and teaching them skills that lead to change. Our hope is that the change brings an end to the generational poverty in their lives and families. Our mission currently drives two community programs, a weekend backpack program to 250 local families with children in school who participate in the free and reduced lunch program and a mobile food pantry, held three times per month, serving on average 750 families per month. With a vision for a future where the families that we serve are able to end the cycle of generational poverty that many of them are in, we are seeking partners to help us continue running successful outreach programs, to offer free or reduced cost services to individuals seeking to learn practical life and work skills, and to employ “graduates” of the iServe program.

OUR PROGRAMS

Nearly 40,000 people in the counties that we serve are living under the food insecurity rate

Each mobile food pantry provides 30,000lbs of food for up to 500 families for just $800 In 2020 iServe’s Feeding Northeast Georgia food pantries served 38,000 people in need in our community.

Over 60% of children in our community are eligible for free or reduced lunch

A Bags of Love backpack provides 24 meals for a family for just $6/week Each week 250 backpacks are delivered by volunteers to local schools

VISION FOR THE FUTURE We believe ending generational poverty will take a multifaceted approach, and one of the ways we purpose to make an impact is through a transitional housing program in Jackson county. Our transitional housing program will serve homeless families with a vision to train, equip and encourage them to become healthy families. Our vision includes a tiny home village and community center where families can be mentored, take classes, and learn valuable life skills. www.iserveministries.org/vision

Empowering Families Working on a car with his housedad inspired Eagle Ranch alumnus George Grob to start a business in performance automotive work. His experience with both of his houseparents is influencing his family today. “The structure of Eagle Ranch and seeing how my houseparents raised their children had a big impact on me. I want to be the best dad I can possibly be to my son. I want to be very involved and do things with my family.” Read more about George’s story at EagleRanch/AR21.

NEWS FROM THE EMPTY NESTERS

CINCO DE DERBY The day was Saturday, May 1, 2021. The place was the Owners’ clubhouse. The Empty Nesters came together to cheer on their favorite horse in the Derby, have a fiesta good time. We combined the theme this year because our event was actual derby day and the next day was Cinco de Mayo. So why not celebrate both. Our decorations were like minded as well. They ranged from our Fiesta table tops to derby hats and anything horses. Again we enjoyed meeting many new neighbors, as our group is rapidly growing with all of the new construction in the neighborhood and finally being able to get out in groups again. Our first order of business was watching the Kentucky Derby, cheering on our favorites, while we munched on appetizers brought by our members. Thanks to Bryan Allen for his tech services. Several women wore their derby hats for the contest and even a few men got in on the act. Next, we moved on to a yummy taco bar while sipping on some margaritas. The desserts brought by members satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth. Once we were stuffed and had shared many a good laugh we started playing games. Even though many needed to be coaxed into playing, all had a good time. I know we sound like a bunch of kids playing games but even the kid’s games get very competitive. A lot of encouragement, cheering and jeering going on around the horse race game. We started with Pin the Tail on the horse. While being spun around three times made many of us very dizzy, it did make for some interesting pinnings. Several did not believe the spinner was leading them in the right direction, just to throw them off (we only picked on a few). Cindy Hohman received her Fabulous prize for being closest. Then came the horse race. Everyone picked their favorite horse and rolled the dice to see how far their horse would move on the track. Lots of wishing on the roll of the dice and heckling those high rollers. The winners from each round moved on to the race-off. Don’t you know those horses were getting tired! The overall winner was Pam Poppe, by a nose. She also received a Fabulous prize. Nancy Bolen won the hat contest with her margarita glasses and horses. The finale of the night was the donkey piñata with his garland of ceremonial of roses. Thanks to some ingenuity on our EN committee, we had the piñata hanging high off of a long pole and ladder. The plan was to blindfold each player, spin them around, line them up and give them one whack at it. Since Pam won the horse race, we thought it only fitting he got to go first. Although one whack was not enough for her as she just kept swinging, but to no avail. It was going to be tough, so we asked Bryan Allen to give it a try. Well in one swing he knocked it off its hook, but did not break it. The best swing of the night went to Bryan Allen, swinging while Beth Grimes held it in her hands, oh my! what was she thinking! We were finally just done and broke it apart to find some yummy candies and a few adult libations were inside. . So much fun to watch. We continued to party throughout the night just enjoying talking to friends. Our next events (June, July and August) will be pool parties hosted at various homes. Be looking for the evite for June 10, 2021 pool party. If you’d like to join us please email emptynesters@traditionsofbraselton.org with name(s), address, best phone number and best email address. Hope to see you soon. Beth Grimes, Empty Nesters Planning Committee Chair

Traditions of Braselton

Say Hello to Summer... GET OUT AND GET ACTIVE…… It is time for us to get out and be active!! With Summer vacations to the Beach and Mountains and the pools opening, we have no excuse no to! Challenge yourself to try new things this Summer. Have you ever been on a paddle board? It is so much fun and really encourages core activation and spinal balance. Yoga on paddleboard is even better!! Did you know the beach is my favorite place to practice yoga? The sounds of seagulls and the Ocean’s tide is like a natural meditative playlist. There is nothing better than breathing in the fresh Ocean air syncing your breath with the waves crashing in and out and sinking your feet in the sand while doing Yoga asana’s. Try an inversion and look at the world upside down. Looking at the Ocean as the sky and the sky as the ocean is so cool! TAKE A HIKE……. Getting out of your comfort zone and into nature encourages us to be more active. Did you know that Georgia is known for having an extensive list of Waterfalls? The beauty of Georgia’s waterfalls can lure even the not so outdoorsy types off the beaten path and into picture-perfect wilds. Even if just planning a day trip it is great to get the family and dogs out for a nice hike and great exercise. Breathe in the fresh oxygen and explore new surroundings! Some great waterfalls that are not far away include Tallulah Gorge, Jack River Falls, Amicalola Falls, and Desoto Falls. Visit https://gastateparks.org for a more extensive list of State Parks and Waterfalls. TAKE UP A NEW CLASS…… If you are anything like me then you get bored easily with traditional workout routines. That is why I am always seeking to learn new ways to stay fit while having fun. I found something so unique and special when first introduced to Buti Yoga. Buti Yoga appealed to me so much because it introduced me to a whole new world of incorporating dance moves to traditional yoga asanas. I have never taken dance in my life, certainly not by choice, my parents were just unable to afford me that luxury. That is why I fell in love with the dance techniques in Buti because they are so easy, accessible and anyone can follow along. The word “Buti” comes from the Indian Marathi word that means the cure to something hidden or kept secret. You will be sure to find something hidden within you that will wake up every muscle in this fun and highly energetic class!! See my full schedule of a variety of classes I offer on my Facebook page @ artofyoga.zen or feel free to call me if you have any questions or have interest in a private, semi-private or group class. 678-978-0499 LUBRICATE YOUR JOINTS……. Ever wake up feeling stiff like a tin man? As we age our joints stiffen over time from lack of movement. It is so important to lubricate them through mobility. You can do this by simply bending and straightening

Traditions of Braselton

H E A LT H A N D F I T N E S S the arms and legs, toes and fingers. Rolling the ankles and wrist, hips, shoulders and the neck both ways! How easy is that? STRETCH……. Stretching can be so beneficial to how we feel and our energy levels. Stretching daily can improve our posture as tight muscles cause poor posture. Stretching improves our range of motion which our joints loose over time. Stretching also helps to prevent injury and aids in quick recovery. Let us face it our muscles need it! Stretching provides us flexibility to stay young, active and healthy!! So…STRETCH ON!!! DETOX…… A healthy diet is the most important way to detoxify the body. First, remove foods from your diet that include high fructose corn syrup, and simple sugars. Avoid processed foods with partially hydrogenated ingredients. Choose foods with natural fats and oils like extra virgin olive oil and organic coconut oil that provide energy for detox and biotransformation processes. Include nuts and seeds in your diet, they are an excellent source of fiber! Protein is crucial for the proper function of the two major detoxification pathways. Opt. for organic grass-fed and wild caught seafood. Legumes such as beans and lentils provide you with a good source of soluble and insoluble fiber as well as amino acids. Fruits and vegetables are an absolute must and crucial for the wide variety of vitamins nutrients and phytonutrients that our body needs to sustain. Choose organic plant foods. Finally, drink plenty of water!! FUN FACT……. Did you know that starting your day with a glass of lemon water can have a huge impact on your health? Lemon water aids in digestion, helps us stay hydrated, aids in weight loss, prevents oxidation, and supplies a healthy dose of vitamin C and potassium. It can also help us prevent kidney stones. Who would have known something so simple could be so beneficial to our over health and wellbeing? JULY/AUGUST “YOGA POSE” OF THE MONTH Standing tall, inhale as you lengthen your arms toward the sky. Taking the right hand on the inside of the right foot exhale as you begin lifting that foot and the right knee while extending your left arm out. Switch sides BREATHE. “If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream” ~Author unknown Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and restful Summer! IN THE SPOTLIGHT

5 REASONS WHY THE HOUSING BOOM IS GOOD NEWS FOR US ALL 3) A Flurry of Activity Keeps Excitement Levels High – We currently have 130 homes at various stages of construction at Traditions of Braselton. While you may occasionally grow tired of the sound of hammers and electric saws in the air, that audible and visual flurry of activity creates a sense of urgency for visiting home buyers. If you’re considering putting your home on the market – while we’d hate to see you go – this might be one of the best times in history to do so. Someone who came seeking a new construction home might just see your existing home with its mature landscaping and loads of curb appeal and fall in love. There were more existing homes sold in 2020 than in any year since 2006. They say every cloud has a silver lining… While the pandemic had an undeniably devastating impact on the lives and livelihoods of countless people worldwide, as the fog lifts and hope returns, the one sector that could represent that proverbial silver lining is the housing industry. With so many people spending more time at home, it was easy to see what their home was lacking – sending them on the quest for the ideal home to fit their needs. Fortunately, that quest led many of them to Traditions of Braselton. The housing boom that we’re currently witnessing is good news for us all, and here are just a handful of reasons why: 1) Property Values Continue to Climb – If we learned anything from Economics 101, it’s that demand is driving supply right now. As more home buyers clamor for new homes and builders race to keep up, inventories are beginning to dwindle nationwide – making it a sellers’ market. As house prices rise, property values stay in step – which is great news for current Traditions of Braselton residents. According to the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Home Price Appreciation for March 2021 was 12.6% - nearly 6% higher than the previous year. Meanwhile, Realtor.com reports that the April 2021 national median listing price for active listings was $375,000, up 17.2% from last year. With the South being listed among the hottest markets for new home sales, you can expect your property values to continue to climb. Diversified financial services company, Jefferies Financial Group predicts that the current housing market “hot streak” will evolve to slower, more sustainable growth – rather than burst, like the housing market bubble of 2008. 2) New Neighbors Are Moving to Our Community – With homes at Traditions of Braselton selling like gangbusters, so follows an influx of new neighbors to enhance the Southern Hospitality appeal of our community even further. If you know someone who would make a great neighbor for our one-of-a-kind community, invite them to discover the place where you live, then pop by the Discovery Center so we can help them find the ideal builder to match their vision. Traditions of Braselton

4) It’s Cool to Live in a Place Where Others Want to Be – Of course, if you’re planning to stay put (and we certainly hope you are), there’s value in living in a place where others want to be that extends beyond property values. On the heels of a pandemic, now is a great time to truly count your blessings, which include living in a beautiful home in a scenic neighborhood that boasts an amazing lifestyle – from clubs and activities to resort-quality amenities. And let’s not forget the chance to have some of THE greatest neighbors in the world! 5) New Businesses Are Drawn to Active Living Centers – As word begins to spread about our hidden gem of a community and more people move to the area, restaurants, retailers and businesses follow suit. From major employers and dynamic boutiques to stylish eateries and convenient fast-food joints, the landscape around Traditions of Braselton Call today for a free looks vastly different from just five years ago.

on-site estimate!

After a year filled with bad news, we’re delighted to share this good news with our neighbors. Beyond some of the South’s finest builders, world-class amenities, picturesque landscapes, convenience to I-85 and award-winning schools, our residents Expires 3/31/19 are high on the list of Traditions of Braselton’s attributes!
