The question we get most often is "Why is it called SheilaFest?" “In 2015, one of our beloved residents and social committee members – Sheila Anderson – had a massive heart attack and nearly lost her life. A true music lover, Sheila was inspired by her second shot at life to launch a music festival at Traditions of Braselton. The festival is named as a living tribute to her – after all, that’s what this community is all about… those special individuals that are an integral part of the whole. Sheila’s ideas, connections to local bands and countless hours of work to pull together something amazing with the help of her friends and neighbors in the community resulted in one of the largest events Traditions of Braselton has ever hosted. We expect this year to be even bigger and better than ever. I – for one – can’t wait!”

NEWS FROM THE EMPTY NESTERS So, what does iServe do? In 2020, iServe gave away

$2,800,000 worth of food to those in need

THE ISERVE VISION To end generational poverty in the communities we serve through meeting practical needs and teaching life skills

iServe’s mission is to bridge the gap between the body of Christ (the church) and the community, together with one another serving those in need and teaching them skills that lead to change. Our hope is that the change brings an end to the generational poverty in their lives and families. Our mission currently drives two community programs, a weekend backpack program to 250 local families with children in school who participate in the free and reduced lunch program and a mobile food pantry, held three times per month, serving on average 750 families per month. With a vision for a future where the families that we serve are able to end the cycle of generational poverty that many of them are in, we are seeking partners to help us continue running successful outreach programs, to offer free or reduced cost services to individuals seeking to learn practical life and work skills, and to employ “graduates” of the iServe program.

OUR PROGRAMS

Nearly 40,000 people in the counties that we serve are living under the food insecurity rate

Each mobile food pantry provides 30,000lbs of food for up to 500 families for just $800 In 2020 iServe’s Feeding Northeast Georgia food pantries served 38,000 people in need in our community.

Over 60% of children in our community are eligible for free or reduced lunch

A Bags of Love backpack provides 24 meals for a family for just $6/week Each week 250 backpacks are delivered by volunteers to local schools

VISION FOR THE FUTURE We believe ending generational poverty will take a multifaceted approach, and one of the ways we purpose to make an impact is through a transitional housing program in Jackson county. Our transitional housing program will serve homeless families with a vision to train, equip and encourage them to become healthy families. Our vision includes a tiny home village and community center where families can be mentored, take classes, and learn valuable life skills. www.iserveministries.org/vision

Hello Traditions,

I am so excited to announce a Tai Chi Class coming this Fall to Jefferson, GA. Currently, I am securing a location and gathering preferred days/times of the week from all who are interested in attending the class. I will keep you updated as interest continues to grow! Keep reading for more information on how TC can benefit you! For those of you who are not familiar with Tai Chi or have heard about it and would like to learn more, it is a mind-body practice that has been used for thousands of years to promote health. Tai Chi targets the energy of the body, traditionally called “qi” (pronounced “chee”), via focused breath and continuous movements. Tai chi means “Grand Ultimate Fist” in Chinese, and it has origins in various martial arts practices. Tai Chi uses simple movements, but also focuses on increasing and improving the flow of qi. The movements of tai chi are slow, intentional, and coordinated with breath and/or focused attention. Most postures or “forms” as we call them are performed standing in place while constancy flowing or moving. The many Traditions of Braselton

benefits of Tai Chi are: 1. Awareness: Tai chi practice develops focus and mindful awareness. 2. Intention: Tai chi practice actively uses images and visualization to enhance its health effects. 3. Structural Integration: Tai chi practice focuses on good posture and how a person positions the body. Good body positioning leads to better body function, and better function leads to better posture. 4. Active Relaxation: Tai chi practice is a form of moving meditation, using flowing and relaxing movements. 5. Strengthening and Flexibility: Tai chi uses slow movements that are done repetitively. Weight is shifted from leg-to-leg and different parts of the body are flexed and extended. 6. Natural, Freer Breathing: Tai chi practice teaches breathing skills, leading to many health benefits. 7. Social Support: Tai chi practice can involve being a part of a group class. This allows people to form a community. 8. Embodied Spirituality: Tai chi practice allows the body, mind, and spirit to work together which helps a person focus on how they connect with others around them. If you are ready to take this journey with me or know anybody who might be interested as well, please forward this email to them then click on this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/ go/10C0C4DACA929A0F4C61-taichi to let me know your interest and what days/time of the week is good for you to attend. Thank you and if you have any further questions or concerns about the class, please contact me anytime. I do not think I can wait! 7 Ways to Boost Your Savings Discover smart options to grow your savings. Although saving more takes some effort, it may be easier than you think – there may even be “free” money available that can help. Here are some tips: Take advantage of an employer match. If they’ll match 3%, you’ve just covered 6% of your retirement savings goal when you add in your contribution, too. While the specifics vary, many companies will match whatever you contribute to the retirement plan (up to a certain percentage of your income). Increase your savings rate just 1% a year, whether in an IRA, a 401(k) or some other dedicated account. This small change means you’ll be at 15% within 10 years without even feeling it. Investigate additional opportunities at work, such as corporate profit-sharing plans, employee stock purchase plans (ESPPs), which enable you to purchase your employer’s stock at a discount, and employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), which provide company stock at no cost as part of overall compensation. Put money aside in tax-deferred accounts such as a 401(k) or a traditional individual retirement account. Doing so can cut your tax bill. Contributions to a Roth IRA, by contrast, are not tax deductible but can grow tax-free. Earnings may be taxed if withdrawn before you’ve held the account for five years. Consolidate your financial accounts to take advantage of potentially lower fees. Don’t assume a bank is your only choice for a checking account, and consider applying whatever savings you achieve to your retirement fund. Pay yourself first. Schedule automatic monthly transfers from your checking or savings account into your retirement account. This keeps you on track and also ensures that you’re investing regardless of market fluctuations.* Find a credit card that deposits cash back directly into your retirement account. Careful here – this only works if you diligently pay off the card balance every month.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

CREATING YOUR OWN CHANGE OF SCENERY

Three Ways to Make the Most of Your Home Improvements indoors and outdoors with indoor gardens and outdoor kitchens, retro furniture and funky interior color palettes, cozy vibes and more.

After a year when many of us spent a lot of time at home, it’s only natural that we noticed where certain interior and exterior spaces could benefit from a little home improvement. From a fresh coat of paint to the incorporation of aluminum fencing in the backyard, Traditions of Braselton has witnessed a steady uptick in requests to the Architectural Review Board in recent months. To help you get started on creating your own “change of scenery”, we’ve compiled a list of three ways to make the most of your home improvements. Ensure a Good Return on Investment Depending on the home improvements you elect to tackle, they may not only enhance your personal enjoyment, but a number can potentially add value to your home. While we never like to entertain the thought of you leaving Traditions of Braselton, it’s good to know that some improvements mark a particularly good return on investment if you ever decide to sell your home. According to the Remodeling 2021 Cost vs. Value Report (www. costvsvalue.com), renovations that hold the greatest value in the South Atlantic region of the U.S. include the use of manufactured stone veneer and a garage door replacement at 93% and 92.8% costs recouped, respectively. For recouped costs between 62.5% and 69.8%, consider window, entry door or siding replacements, a wood deck addition or minor kitchen remodel of $25k or less. For recouped costs between 45.6% and 59.8% of your investment, you’ll want to go with a master suite or bathroom addition, major kitchen or bathroom renovation, roofing replacement or the reimagining of your grand entrance. Follow the Trends In addition to satisfying your personal tastes and sense of style, it’s also wise to follow the trends and potentially enlist the aid of a professional designer – even if in just a consultative capacity. In keeping with the latest farmhouse craze, white houses have been all the rage for some time now. However, Moving.com indicates that we’re starting to see a shift towards warmer whites and off-whites, shades of gray-green to sage green, pale gray to pewter, and pale to deep hues of blue in exterior paint colors. Traditions of Braselton is proud to partner with the color experts at Sherwin Williams – located at 2625 Old Winder RD STE J in Braselton. They are happy to assist you in the best color combinations to complement your roof and accent colors. Other design trends of note for 2021 – according to Realtor.com – are dedicated home offices for the rise in telecommuting professionals, a blurring of the lines between Traditions of Braselton

Make a Smooth Transition Traditions of Braselton prides itself in being a Design Standards Community. When you’re ready to move forward on any exterior improvements or room additions, you’ll need to gain the approval of the Traditions of Braselton Architectural Review Board. Simply visit TraditionsofBraselton.org, click on Document Center in the navigation bar at the top of the page, then scroll down and click on Architectural Review Board in the left-hand column. The listed documents are all helpful in outlining the process, but the document you’ll need most is the Modification Request Form. Print it out and complete it, then send it to Jenny Guess of CMA Communities at jguess@cmacommunities.com or drop it off at the Discovery Center – located at 401 Delaperriere Loop. You’ll note that the form outlines supporting documents you’ll need to provide, such as a copy of your property plat, paint samples, plans, renderings and more. By filling this form out in its entirety and providing all the necessary documentation, you ensure a smooth approval process. While it can take as long as 30 days to gain approval, by providing everything required the first time, your request could be approved much faster. Bear in mind that privacy fences are no longer permitted at Traditions of Braselton – only black aluminum fencing is allowed, and we will consider the colors of your neighbors’ homes when determining whether your requested exterior paint choices will prove a good fit. The fact that our neighbors take such pride in their homes is just one of the many things that make Traditions of Braselton such a wonderful place to live! We look forward to receiving your modification requests and seeing them come to life to further enhance the landscape of our one-of-a-kind community.
