A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
Happy July Windermere! It is hard to believe that we are at the halfway mark of the year. This summer has been extremely busy throughout the association. It appears that things are finally getting back to normal. And, that is great news! In addition to the regular bustling operations throughout the community, there are few other projects that we have been working on that we wanted to send out updates for: • Amenities Road Repair: Currently, the engineering firm that we engaged has performed multiple topographical and geological surveys. They are putting together the full plan and scope of the project, in order to submit it to multiple contractors for the bid of reconstruction. We understand that this process has extended past our original timeline. We appreciate your understanding and patience. While the area is still a hazard, Please refrain from going into the area, and share this information with all who live in your home. We have received several reports that many neighbors (of all ages) are still using the area to walk through, and some even to loiter. It is dangerous, and we do not want anyone to get hurt. Thank you again for your understanding. • Daves Creek Erosion: If you have recently gone by the area, you have seen some changes. Currently, The Forsyth County Roads and Bridges department is working on clearing and constructing an access path so that they can bring in materials to rebuild the culvert. We are optimistic that this progress will continue. • Windermere Monuments: At the start of the second quarter of this year we began a project to continue to improve the Windermere Monuments by enhancing the lighting. The first monuments that we focused on were the Highway 20 monument and the monument at Stanford Drive. We were so pleased with the outcome, that we have decided to move forward through out the community. We are taking a gradual approach so that we can individually optimize each monument. This will be done throughout the rest of the year. There are many other projects that go on “behind the scenes” to ensure that Windermere is not only maintained, but enhanced. We will be sending some informational pieces out in the upcoming months that will show case a few of these “Did you know?” about what goes on to make Windermere such a great place. We hope that you all have wonderful rest of your summer, and look forward to seeing you soon.
Sincerely, Windermere Board of Directors 8

BOBBY’S COACHING CORNER Do you know your tennis court zones? Which shot do you hit most of your shots from? DEFEND - Your opponent has backed you up with something big. Your reply should help you to recover by buying you some time. A high, heavy topspin shot aimed at their backhand would be your best option. NEUTRAL - This is where matches are won or lost because this is where the most unforced errors occur. Play it smart by aiming 6-8 feet over the net with the ball landing between the service and baseline. ATTACK - Your opponent has hit you a ball in your Strike Zone. This is the part of the court where winning the point starts to happen. Go for it! KILL - Blood is in the water! “No extra outs” and all those other phrases we use at practice. Now is the time to end the point!

POOL HOURS The Pool opens at 5:00 a.m. for residents to swim at your own risk. The Pool closes each evening when lifeguards go off duty. Lifeguard on duty schedule is detailed on Page 4 of the Pool Information Packet POOL SAFETY: ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS!! Please pay close attention to the pool rules which are intended to ensure a safe environment for all residents. Please be aware that Lifeguards are primarily responsible for life safety. Parents are responsible for monitoring and supervising their children at all times, while in the water and on deck, and ensuring they observe the rules for their own safety. The majority of our parents are diligent in this regard, but there still are too many instances of unsupervised children. ARE YOU READY FOR THE
Summer Olympics? The highly anticipated Tokyo Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 23 will be the first major global gathering since the worldwide pandemic began last year. Here’s what you need to know to get ready for games. 1. When are the 2020 Summer Olympics taking place? The Summer Olympics are scheduled to begin officially July 23 with the opening ceremony and end August 8 with the closing ceremony. But some competitions, such as Softball and Soccer, begin July 21 – so make sure to get your viewing schedule ready. 2. Why are they still called the 2020 Olympic Games? These Games are historic, in that they mark the first time an Olympics has been postponed. Even though the Tokyo Games are taking place in the summer of 2021, they will still be referred to as the 2020 Olympics, and the Winter Olympics in Beijing will still be held in February 2022. 3. What are the new sports to check out? • Sport Climbing in Tokyo will be held as a single event, with all three of the sport’s main disciplines (speed, bouldering and lead) being used in a combined format to determine an overall winner for both men and women. This presents a change from usual sport climbing competitions, which typically keep each of the three disciplines as separate events. Because athletes tend to specialize in just one or two disciplines, the Olympic will present a very unique challenge. • Karate was born in Okinawa, Japan in 1868, popularized across the rest of the country in the early 1900s, then spread globally after World War II. The martial art’s popularity and history in Japan resulted in inclusion for the Tokyo Games, but it will not be on the Olympic program in 2024. • Skateboarding will be featured in Tokyo for the first time, but it won’t be the last — it’s already been approved for the 2024 Paris Games. • Surfing is another action sport making its Olympic debut. Like skateboarding, it has also been approved 22

for the 2024 Olympics, though that competition will take place in Tahiti (about 9,800 miles from Paris). • Baseball and Softball are not new sports to the Olympic Games, but they haven’t been played since 2008 due to scheduling conflicts with Major League Baseball. But they are back this year, so be prepared to tune in! 4. What’s different about this year’s medal design? The upcoming Tokyo Olympics will present athletes with medals composed of recycled electronic devices. Approximately 5,000 gold, silver and bronze medals have been produced from small electronic devices like laptops and smartphones that were donated by people all over Japan. 5. What is the schedule for the Olympics? Swimming and Gymnastics will take center stage in the opening week, with Swimming running July 24 through August 1, and Gymnastics July 25 through August 3. Track and Field events begin July 30 and conclude with the Men’s Marathon August 8, the final day of the Olympics. 6. How to watch the Olympics. In addition to NBC’s live broadcast, viewers can watch additional commentary and analysis on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports App. For Xfinity customers, you have free access to Peacock Premium, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, through your Xfinity Flex streaming device or Xfinity TV. Just use your voice remote to find and catch all the action! Many Olympic tournaments run the duration of the Games, including Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Water Polo, Soccer and Beach Volleyball, with each subsequent game getting them closer to the medal stand. So make sure to tune in toward the end of the Games to see how the U.S. medal count is going! BEWARE OF TICKS With Summer here, there is a good chance you and your dog are spending more time outdoors. Take a few minutes to check him for ticks on occasion. Tick bites can lead to anemia, Lyme disease and even paralysis so it’s important to act as quickly as possible if you notice one of these annoying pests on your pup. First, you need to know what you’re looking for and how to check your dog. Ticks come in all shapes and sizes depending on the type. Dog ticks, deer ticks and lone star ticks can all be found on your pet. While some are about the size of an eraser when engorged, others can be as tiny as a pin prick. Because of this, it’s important to always give your dog a thorough check by combing your hands through their fur after being outside, especially if you were on a hike or in tall grass.
your pup for any symptoms and if anything adverse should arise, you’ll have a source and start date. Once removed, clean the skin well where the tick attached itself. Use an antiseptic to prevent infection. Keep an eye on the area and monitor it for any symptoms of Lyme disease such as fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, lameness, swollen glands or swollen lymph nodes for the next several weeks or months. For overall prevention, ask your vet about treatments such as a tablet or a spray or any other options he may recommend.
If you do find a tick, spread their fur and use finepoint tweezers to try and grasp it as close to the skin as possible being careful NOT to pinch your pup in the process. Once you have secured the tick, pull it slowly in a straight, steady motion to ensure the entire tick is in the tweezers. Don’t leave anything behind that could lead to infection. If you have any trouble, please call your vet. AND call your vet anyway if you feel uneasy about this process and would prefer he take over. Some owners burn the tick, but it’s a better idea to place it in a jar (with lid secured tightly) adding a label of when you found it. This way, you can monitor
