Importance of a "Healthy" Economy
2
With our premier location, surrounded by beautiful Lake Sidney Lanier, the area offers an unparalleled quality of life and a sound economic future for business and industry. Site Selection Magazine named Gainesville-Hall County among its “Top 5” small metro areas in the nation for business expansions and locations, and along with Area Development and CNBC, each rated Georgia tops in the nation for new business and expansion. In Gainesville-Hall County during the last 12 months, 21 economic development projects were announced creating 1,420 new jobs and $206 million in investment (July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015). Business expansions at Hall County’s 285 manufacturers and processors are fueling growth. Kubota, currently Brian Daniel employing 1,300 in Gainesville, is developing a new 180-acre campus with a Carroll Daniel $100 million investment and adding 650 jobs. Wrigley is adding 170 new jobs Construction Co. Chairman, Greater Hall at the Hall County facility making it the largest fully integrated chewing gum Chamber of Commerce manufacturer in the world. Jinsung TEC of South Korea recently opened their new North American headquarters and operations and is manufacturing undercarriage systems for construction equipment. The Georgia Poultry Laboratory Network opened a new laboratory and headquarters to fulfill an important role for Georgia’s poultry industry. And, according to a recent logistics study, Gainesville-Hall County has a growing cluster of 65 logistics firms that employ over 2,000 and provide freight brokerage, 3PL, cold-chain logistics and transportation services. Together, our manufacturers, processors and logistics service firms employ 30% of Hall County’s workforce. Healthcare and the Economy In addition to growing and expanding industries, Gainesville-Hall County continues to have robust activity in retail development, tourism and healthcare services. The growing healthcare sector is adding to our quality of life and economic outlook, as more than 300 healthcare services providers account for an astounding 14% of all employment in Gainesville-Hall County and an estimated $650 million in annual payroll. Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) was rated #1 in Georgia and #2 in the nation for Overall Care by CareChex and has ranked as Georgia’s top heart hospital for 10 consecutive years. The new, 100-bed Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton opened this spring and is already expanding to include obstetrics services by January 2017. Physician services continue to grow in Gainesville and in South Hall County. NGMC surpassed the $1 billion mark in local and state economic impact for the third consecutive year, generating $1,104,610,897 in revenue for the local and state economy, according to a report released by the Georgia Hospital Association. Access to world-class healthcare services right here in Gainesville-Hall County is one of our strongest assets in economic and workforce development. The Greater Hall Chamber Healthcare Committee has been the catalyst for connecting Health & Wellness Initiatives to local businesses. The Healthcare Committee oversees a set of community-wide programs and events and meets monthly to discuss access to healthcare, wellness programs and benefits, healthcare services, legislative issues, health insurance and other important health and wellness topics. Chamber EDC Year-End Report The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Council (EDC) concluded its fiscal year. For the 12 months ending June 30, 2015, the EDC facilitated 21 new and expanding businesses that have committed to creating a cumulative 1,420 new jobs and a private capital investment of $206 million. This represents a 38% increase in jobs and a 21% increase in capital investment compared to the previous 12 months (July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014). This exceeds its measurable annual objectives of 500 new private sector jobs and $125 million in new capital investment. In addition to the direct jobs and investment these companies will provide, new business activity is yielding over 1,100,000-squarefeet of new commercial and industrial construction in Gainesville-Hall County. Major commercial and industrial projects the EDC supported in the last 12 months include the new Kubota Manufacturing of America campus in Gateway Industrial Centre; Wrigley’s expansion in South Hall; the new North Lake Square retail development (Academy Sports, Hobby Lobby, Chipotle) under construction; the new LNB Microbrewery project in Chicopee Mill; and, many existing industry expansions, such as Gold Creek Foods and Zebra Technologies. “Some project locations move as quickly as two or three months, and others take several years of study and research before making a final decision,” said Tim Evans, Greater Hall Chamber Vice President of Economic Development. “For example, our work with Academy Sports began in July of 2008 with a walk-in inquiry at the Chamber. Now, seven years later, we’re just a few months away from a grand opening. Economic Development requires a long-term effort.” As of July 15, 2015 the Chamber’s EDC staff reported a record 82 active projects in its economic development pipeline, including 59 new, qualified project opportunities added during the 12-month period. “By any measure, we’ve had a great year in Economic Development in Hall County,” said EDC Chairman Brian Rochester of Rochester & Associates. “Our community’s approach to economic development is successful because of broad participation. Everyone in this community is a part of the team.”
Wage & Benefit Report 2015 The Greater Hall Chamber's 2015 Wage & Benefit Report is now available. A resource prepared by the Chamber’s Economic Development Division, the publication is used by companies as a tool to ensure employers remain competitive in local compensation and benefits practices. Sixty-three (63) employers responded to this study, generating a 55% response rate. The report includes 54 pages of wages in the areas of Office, Finance, Human Resources, Technology, Lab, Material, Engineer, Maintenance and Production, along with sections on pay practices and benefits information. The report is available at the Chamber, 230 E.E. Butler Parkway in Gainesville. $30 for Chamber members; $50, Non-Members (+shipping and handling). Details: Shelley Davis, 770-532-6206 x 108. (L-R): Hall County Commissioner Billy Powell, Gainesville Mayor Danny Dunagan and business partners/owners John Mattick and Jim Hene cut ribbon at pblowers, Inc., a leading distributor and service provider for positive displacement blowers, vacuum pumps and related equipment for industrial applications. After out growing its facility on Murphy Boulevard in Gainesville, the company developed a new 44,100-square-foot production facility on a 10-acre site in Gainesville Industrial Park West. The new location provides the opportunity to meet its current and future growth needs and added five new jobs and invested more than $2.5 million in land, building and equipment. As part of the expansion, the City of Gainesville improved the access road that serves the Chicopee Mill property and pdblower’s new business location. “This is a win-win for the community, pdblowers and the existing businesses in the Chicopee Mill Park,” said Tim Evans, Chamber Vice President of Economic Development. pdblowers.com

100’s millions of dollars
Eddie Espinoza (left) became Jonathan Arciniega's (right) mentor when he was in the third grade. Eddie was introduced to the concept of mentoring through his work as an employee at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall County. It was there that he made a commitment to someday become a mentor through the Center Point Mentor Program. Eddie, now an employee at Syfan Logistics, has proudly fulfilled this commitment. Eddie’s reasons for wanting to become a mentor were many. He wanted to develop an in-depth relationship with the right student in order to foster an awareness of what it takes to be successful. He also wanted to help that student develop good decision-making processes and world view that produces positive outcomes. Jonathan says “I look forward to seeing Eddie because he is fun. He teaches me about stuff I don’t understand.” As Jonathan moves to Gainesville Middle School he is glad that his mentor will be with him during this transition. There are many more students in the Gainesville & Hall County School Systems and the Boys Girls Clubs of Hall County that would benefit from an adult spending time with them. Each mentor is asked to donate an hour a week to mentoring. An initial 2-hour training and background check is required of each mentor. For more details about the program, application, training times, and training locations, please visit Center Point Mentoring online at mentorhall.org
