BRASELTON COMMUNITY ALLIANCE
The Braselton Community Alliance was organically formed after one Braselton resident began going door to door to find others who shared in his passion to ensure Braselton leaders made smart decisions regarding development within the town. What is now known as the BCA has been working as a group since 2017. This group of residents reside in Braselton or in the surrounding nearby community and promote high standards of quality development for Braselton and its surrounding areas. The people involved with the BCA enjoy getting to know their neighbors, listening to each other’s concerns & desires, and supporting each other for what’s best in our community. Did you know that there are three ways you can stay up to date on development within the Town? 1. To follow applications for proposed development within the Town that will be heard by the Planning Commission and Town Council, please go to: 1. www.braselton.net 2. Scroll Down to the bottom of the page 3. Enter your email address in the “stay up to date” section and click “sign up” 4. Complete the email subscription form that includes checking the individual email lists you want to subscribe to. 5. Once complete, click “sign up” at the bottom of the form and you are all set. NOTE: if you want to stay up to date on development applications that come before the town, make sure to click on “Town of Braselton: Agendas and Public Notices” (see photo attached)

The Braselton Town Council meets in voting session on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Braselton Police & Municipal Court Building at 5040 Hwy 53 in Downtown Braselton. 3. Any resident may attend the Planning Commission Meetings and are welcome! They are open to the public. 1. The Braselton Planning Commission typically meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 7 pm in the Braselton Police & Municipal Court Building at 5040 Hwy 53 in Downtown Braselton. Note: The commission will not meet if there are no applications to be heard for that month. The BCA encourages and welcomes involvement from other residents in and around our community! HOLIDAY GOLF CART CARAVAN TUESDAY, 12/7 AT 5PM MEET AT THE SPORTS FIELDS Join neighbors for hot chocolate and a drive around the neighborhood to the view the festive decorations.
And the Winners are ...for our 1st Annual
Halloween
HOUSE DECORATING CONTEST MOST FESTIVE - WICKED HALLOWEEN PRESENTED BY THE GRIFFINS
MOST HAUNTED - HAUNTED PRESENTED BY THE ZIMMERMANS 8
We had 13 official entries this year. All of them deserve a round of applause for their efforts and time that went into creating such wonderful displays for all of us to enjoy. Each winner was presented with a “Yard Sign” award and a $100 dollar gift card to Amazon from our sponsor Daniel Solly from Digital Logic Systems - www.prodls.com. Voting commenced with an evening golf cart caravan of 25+ families gathering at the Sport Club field and then driving through the neighborhood to view all the spooktacular displays. Many of the families decorated their golf carts to get in the spirit for Halloween Week and the children loved gathering with friends and voting on their favorite houses. Thank you to everyone that participated and made this event a huge success. We hope to have more entries and prizes for next year! Presented By: The Social Committee December 2019

DEPRESSION AND THE HOLIDAYS
By Devin Vicknair, PH.D., LPC
Holidays can stir up a variety of emotions - grief, anxiety, sadness, excitement, and happiness. Despite the emotional rollercoaster ride through the holidays, it is important to make sure the negative emotions are not a symptom of a bigger problem, such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
Symptoms of depression can vary from person to person, but they commonly cause difficulty in daily functioning. Some of the symptoms of depression include sleeping too much or not enough, loss of pleasure in things that used to be enjoyable, feeling worthless, low energy-fatigue, poor concentration and forgetfulness, appetite or weight changes, or feeling sluggish. Some people may also have thoughts of suicide. These symptoms may also be associated with other medical conditions. According to Medscape, an online medical news outlet, depression is among the leading causes of disability in patients aged 15 years and older. In primary care settings, the lifetime prevalence of MDD is almost 21% (females 26% vs. males 14%) with the highest age prevalence between 30 and 64
14
years of age. Up to 50% of adults and nearly twothirds of older adults who receive treatment for depression, receive it in a primary care setting. The good news is that depression is treatable, and most patients achieve remission of depression within one year, but depression is highly recurrent. The risk factors for depression are varied, but patients with a family history of depression or chronic medical disease are more likely to experience depression. TAKING ACTION Treatment options need to match the individual and the severity of the symptoms. This process begins by receiving an evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional. Make sure your healthcare provider tells you all the effective treatment approaches for depression. Keep your follow-up appointments and incorporate healthy nutrition and exercise into your treatment plan. Don’t ignore your symptoms, depression is a medical condition that can improve with treatment. RESOURCES To schedule an appointment with a behavioral health specialist or a primary care physician, visit www.ngpg.org. Persons experiencing thoughts of suicide need to seek immediate help by calling 911, going to the nearest emergency department or contacting the Georgia Crisis and Access Line at 1-800-715-4225. You can also access help via chat or text through the MYGCAL app located in the App Store, Google Play or App for PC.

H E LP F U L T I P GUARD GATE ADDRESS
2585 AUTUMN MAPLE As many of you are well aware, GPS is our friend most of the time…. but unfortunately for many unfamiliar with our community it can lead them to the wrong gate to gain entrance into our community. This confusion can lead to frustration for those guests & vendors that are trying to gain entrance at a resident only gate and even for those maybe waiting in line behind them. So please make note of the Guard Gate address, it is 2585 Autumn Maple Drive and make a habit to provide it to those guests or vendors that are not familiar with our community.
Early Bird Pricing - Tickets are $65.00/person Starting December 1 - $85.00/person Overnight stay at a local hotel and Limo package is available at special price. Ask for details!
