COMMUNITY NEWS
MANAGEMENT MESSAGES As 2018 comes to a close may we all look back and reflect on the good times that we have shared and the struggles that we have endured together. May we be truly thankful for our blessings. This year, as in many years past, your Community has reached out with a loving heart to support charities and those in need through fund raisers, clothing collections, as well as food and blood drives. As we get ready to move into the new year, we will again have opportunities to touch lives in our county and beyond. If you have not had the opportunity to participate in any of our giving events in the past, I hope that you will plan to in the coming year. I would like to thank each and every Committee member that has helped to plan events, worked at events or steer the direction of the Community in one way or another. You may not know this, but the Traditions of Braselton has the greatest amount of Committees participation out of all the 700+ CMA properties throughout Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. That says a lot and I am proud to have worked with you over the past five years. This month we will be meeting to work on the calendar for 2019 so that you will have the opportunity to save dates for Community events and meetings ahead of time. Keep in mind that we do try to consider factors such as school breaks and Georgia Games when scheduling our big events but unfortunately it is impossible for us to choose a time that will work for everyone all
the time. One thing that we would like to see an improvement on next year is the utilization of our RSVP systems as this really helps us to plan and accommodate all the attendees. So, when you see the events published with deadlines to RSVP try not to wait to till the last minute to respond. Please go ahead and mark your calendars for the Annual Meeting of membership on January 28th, 2019. Believe it or not another two years has passed, and it is time to hold an election for the Board of Directors seat held by Paul Thompson. Paul has served as your resident representative since 2014 and has graciously agreed to serve one more term. We thank him for his service to the Community and for his efforts to protect the interests of the Homeowners. We will be accepting nominations for this position if you interested or if there is someone that you would like to nominate and will hold a formal election should someone choose to run for this seat. Formal notice with nomination information will be sent to you in accordance to the by-laws for the Traditions of Braselton. At the Annual Meeting we will also have Committee sign ups for the next year. We hope to see you there! Lastly, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday and the most prosperous of New Years! Sincerely, Jennifer M. Giacin, CAM
THANK YOU! CHRISTMAS CARDS By Cindy Hohman This year I am going to do this. Maybe I will someday have the opportunity to meet my soldier. When filling out your Christmas cards this year take a card and send to this address: A Recovering American Soldier C/O Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Ave. NW Washington DC 20307-5001 Pass this on and think of how many cards these wonderful, special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

FROM NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS TO NORTH GEORGIA
Medical Center
By Cindy Hohman Three couples from Traditions enjoyed a nice fall trip up to Blue Ridge. We stayed in a cabin and took the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway to Copperhill, Tennessee. It was a nice weekend getaway before our upcoming surgeries. We had a great breakfast inside the vault at Mercier Orchards Restaurant October 30th was an interesting day in the ER at NGMC in Braselton. Kay Hyslop was scheduled to have her gall bladder removed and Cindy Hohman was scheduled for back surgery. While in Blue Ridge Janice was complaining of pain. She went to the ER on Monday October 29th and ended up having an unscheduled surgery! I think we each own a wing at the hospital because of the amount of time we have all spent there. Fortunately, we are all home now and on the road to recovery. We all received excellent care at NGMC. Many of our friends and neighbors work there. It was like old home week! I just want to say thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. Hopefully, the third time’s a charm!
Empty Nesters... SAVORIES AND SWEETS GAME NIGHT By Cheryl Morrell On Friday night, November 9th, forty gamers came together to share savory hot and cold appetizers, their favorite beverages and fabulous desserts, comradery and lots of fun. We introduced new members, Jerry and Linda Boatner and welcomed back to the ‘hood’, Larry and Carol Zeleznik. The former residents and footloose and fancy free world travelers were visiting with Billy and Kay Costantino on Harmony Grove Lane. After filling up on lots of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and getting our sugar fixes from the luscious desserts for the night, we got down to the nitty gritty. Armed with a roll of nickels each, Traditions of Braselton
we started with 5 nickels in front of us and with each roll of the dice, the nickels went to the person to the Right, and/or the Left, and/or to the Center (the pot) or stayed with the player (yea!) depending on what the dice said. Play continued around the table until only one person had any nickels left (usually it was just one). That lucky soul won the pot. There was a lot of cheering, laughter and groaning from all the tables. After three rounds, most of the tables had two or three winners. That is at all but one. At that table, Carol Zeleznik won all three rounds taking in somewhere around a whopping $1.35. At our table we played for high stakes the last round and everyone went ‘all in’ with their remaining 30 nickels…a sizeable holding of $1.50. The Grand Prize winner of the high stakes game was Nancy Bolen. She ended up with a pot of about $15.00- her $1.50 she netted the tidy sum of $13.50. Congratulations, Nancy. Our last event of the year will be the annual Christmas Party and Gift exchange on December 7th. Start looking for those regifting, gently used, or purchased gifts. The gift must equal a minimum of $5. One for a man and one for a woman per couple, wrapped and labeled. Watch for your Evite coming soon. DECEMBER 2018

GIFTS FROM THE
Heart
By Cheryl Morrell Christmas decorations are filling the stores, ads for Thanksgiving Turkeys and all the fixings are in the paper. As this holiday season gets underway and you make lists and plan your Black Friday excursions to the Mall, please remember those less fortunate than we are. Jackson County has a very large number of children who live at or below the poverty line, get free meals at school, take home food filled backpacks on the weekend so there will be food to eat till they get back to school on Monday. As we did last year, Traditions is teaming up with Jackson County Sheriff’s office thru Jackson County Family Connection and with iServe Food Ministry and Beef O’ Brady’s to help provide a little bit of Christmas to children who wouldn’t have one otherwise. Beginning next Monday, Nov. 12th and continuing until Dec. 13th, there will be boxes and or large Christmas bags at the HOA Office for your gifts of Christmas. Items are especially needed for children ages 4 and up. Dolls, stuffed animals, sports balls, toy trucks, cars, Legos, coloring books, drawing pads, crayons, colored pencils, markers, games, puzzles, knit hats, scarf and glove sets, jewelry, hand bags like crossbody bags, wristlets, wallets, hair bows, clips, bands, nail polish sets, manicure sets, Visa or Master Card, Walmart, etc. gift cards are especially good for the older kids who are so hard to buy for. Ask you kids/grandkids what someone there age might like. Do not wrap the gifts, but please remove the price tags if possible. Those that cannot be removed, we will put stickers over. Gift cards MUST include the cash register receipt that shows the activation code and price paid. This is to verify that the gift card was paid for and to assist if the activation failed and the card doesn’t work. Small gift envelopes to hold the gift card would also be nice.
Thank you in advance for your heart felt generosity and for blessing these children with a little bit of Christmas. 8

STRENGTH TRAINING ROUTINE YOU CAN DO AT HOME Do 2 – 3 sets of either lower or upper body workout, two to three times a week to increase strength at any age with body weight (no special equipment needed!) Start with 5 – 10 reps or as many as you can do in good form, then gradually increase as your progress adding reps or weight or both. During the workout session, remember to brace your core and breath. And, be sure to get medical clearance first from your doc if you’ve never participated in a strength training program or have any medical issues that might be of concern. Warm up: Dynamic movement to get your muscles warmed up such as brisk walking, jogging in place, walk outs, etc. Lower Body: • Squats (be sure to hip hinge and lead with your glutes not your knees/quads, knees don’t bend beyond toes) • Forward lunges – step one foot forward bending front knee behind toes and lowering back knee towards the ground • Reverse lunges – step one foot back into a lunge bending front knee behind toes • Standing or side lying leg lifts – lift top leg for outer hip muscles and lower leg for inner thigh muscles • Calf raises – singe or double leg Upper Body: • Diamond Push-ups (gals on your knees) – index fingers and thumbs meet • Superman hold with squeeze – lying on tummy with chest, arms and legs lifted but not hyper-extended • Forearm to regular plank up – alternate lowering elbows to floor then hands to floor • Inchworm push-up – standing up, walk hands out to plank, push-up (opt. drop knees) keeping elbows close to body then walk hands back to standing • Dive bomber push-up – From a down dog position (hands and feet on floor and hips raised to ceiling like a V) lower chest to floor then straighten arms and lift head to ceiling. Return to down dog position. • Triceps dip – in front of couch or sturdy chair, place hands on seat with fingers forward, walk legs out in front and bend arms, lowering glutes to the ground. Return to straight arms. Cool Down: 5 – 10 minutes of static stretches for muscle groups you worked in the workout session. Would love any feedback or comments via email or my FB page, especially if you do the workout! Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Stronger New Year! Carol Osborne, CPT/Yoga & Pilates Instructor
