Holiday DECORATIONS
With the end of the holiday season, we would also like to remind everyone what the guidelines say regarding decorations. Holiday decorations are both permitted and encouraged and will not require approval by the ARC. However, such decorations may be installed no sooner than forty-five (45) days prior to the holiday and must be removed within ten (10) days after the holidays for which they are intended. With respect to Christmas lighting displays, they should not be illuminated until the day after Thanksgiving. ARC reserves the right to require the removal of decorations which do not comply with these guidelines or which, in the judgment of the ARC, pose a potential public safety risk. 4

TENNIS NEWS
Pickle Ball is Coming to Windermere this January! Due to the overwhelming response to the pickle ball survey, we are excited to announce that Windermere will be constructing brand new, permanent pickle ball courts in the very near future. We will be converting two of our existing tennis courts (Courts 11 & 12) into six permanent pickle ball courts. Pickle ball is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation and many of you have been asking how we can get some courts here at Windermere. In keeping with our goal of having the best amenities in Forsyth County, we are certain that these permanent courts will make Windermere THE neighborhood to live in if you love pickle ball. If you want to learn more about the sport, here’s a three minute YouTube video that shares some of the basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLWj2LXecH The pickle ball court conversion should be complete by mid-January, whether permitting. In dedicating Courts 11 and 12 to pickle ball, we will also be transitioning the “walk-on” courts to the two courts at Bennington. There will still be no reservations for the walk-on courts and please keep in mind that they do not have lights or bathroom facilities. Lastly, be on the lookout for announcements about our Pickle Ball Court Opening Festivities coming soon!
Adult Clinic (for New & Beginner Players) Do you want to learn how to play tennis? Exercise AND have fun? Meet new friends? Then join us for our new Adult Clinic on Fridays from 10:45-12:00 pm at the Windermere tennis courts. Don’t have a racquet? Not to worry… we have racquets you can demo to see what fits you best. This class is for those interested in being introduced to the game and for those on beginner teams who feel Open Drills may be too advanced for them. Please register through our new reservation app, Kourts.com. Cost will be $16 per session for residents and $18 for non-residents who play on a Windermere ALTA team. If you have any questions, please contact Bobby at schindlerb@comcast.net or 770-598-8378
Interested in Adult Drills at Windermere? Get the most bang for your buck and join the Adult Academy. The cost to register is $95 per month. TENNIS NEWS
Some Major Improvements Have Been Made to Your Courts Just in time for Winter season, the Tennis Committee and your HOA Board have been busy sprucing up the courts. Over the last month, new LED lights have been installed on courts 1,2, 7 and 8. Lighting upgrades are a major HOA budget item, so the new lights will be installed in stages. We’ve also added a new LCD digital display monitor on the wall of the bathhouse. The new display will scroll through court assignments as well as other tennis announcements and neighborhood news. Lastly, due to the overwhelming positive response to the two BATT towels we previously purchased, the tennis committee has added four more to our supply for your rainy-day relief. These towels are being used at all the big tennis centers these days and are far more effective than a squeegee. Check out videos on how to use the BATT towel here: https://battowel.com/video Please remember to hang the towels back up on the fence when you have finished using them.
Junior Tennis at Windermere Pee Wee classes for our 5-7 year old hitters is held on Thursday from 4:30-5:15. We run, we hit balls, we throw balls, we make lots of noise and have fun. Monthly cost to attend one day per week is $60. 13 and Under and Junior Academy classes are held Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30pm-7pm. These drills are designed for beginners and those considering making tennis one of their afternoon activities. Fun and activity is the main objective. Monthly cost to attend one day per week is $80 or $160 for both days. High School drills are held Monday and Wednesday, 5:30pm-7pm. These drills are designed for the high school aged player interested in playing on their school team. Each drill features a tactical, technical and competitive component. Monthly cost to attend one day per week is $80 or $160 for both days. Please contact Bobby at schindlerb@comcast.net or 770-598-8378 with any questions.
Windermere Tennis has transitioned to a
NEW court reservation system

Please ensure that your contact information on the association website (www.windermerecommunity.net) is updated to include email addresses and cell phone numbers, as this is required information to register for the new Kourts app. We encourage you to go ahead and download the app and sign up. Here is a short video to help you get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6LvdWNGOUw

The GA 400 Express Lanes project is one of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) Major Mobility Investment Program projects to improve mobility along the GA 400 corridor. The project is part of the larger Georgia Express Lanes network, designed to provide a connected transportation system with reliable trip times for motorists. The Georgia Express Lanes are a network of optional, priced managed lanes that run alongside existing interstates in some of the most congested corridors around metro Atlanta. These lanes provide motorists and transit customers with a choice for more reliable trip times during peak travel periods. The result is a network of lanes that provide more reliable and predictable travel times. All Georgia Express Lanes rely on variable pricing, with toll rates rising as demand increases during peak periods of travel and falling at off-peak times. The GA 400 Express Lanes project focuses on adding two buffer-separated express lanes in each direction between the North Springs MARTA Station and McGinnis Ferry Road. Additionally, one bufferseparated express lane will be constructed in each direction from McGinnis Ferry Road to McFarland Parkway. A series of Public Information Open Houses were held in February and March of 2019. The purpose of these meetings was to provide opportunities for the public to view current plans, ask questions, and provide feedback. More than 1,200 people attended the series and submitted over 550 comments.
concept to the new express lanes coming to GA 400 based on stakeholder and public comments. Notable design changes thus far include: • The express lanes will move from the outside to the inside of GA 400 south of Northridge Road, allowing the express lanes to travel under Northridge Road • The Pitts Road overpass bridge will be rebuilt in place utilizing a detour; saving the displacement of several homes • East of GA 400, the new access point south of Holcomb Bridge Road will connect and pass to the north of Raintree Crossing
Over the coming months, GDOT will continue to The project is in early stages of development, so the refine the proposed concept and post additional initial concept design is underway and access points project information to the project website at majormobilityga.com/projects/sr400/. The are still being determined. The next opportunity for residents to provide official comments and feedback department is currently conducting environmental studies and construction is scheduled to begin about the project will be in mid-2020 at a series of in 2022 with express lanes anticipated to open to Public Hearing Open Houses. traffic in 2027. Do Dogs Really Need Sweaters?
This is a subject I have always been on the fence about, but after doing some research from professionals I think there are situations where it might be appropriate. Sure, dogs come equipped with their own external layering system, but some pups have lighter layers of fur than others. While YOU may be very cold, your dog might be quite comfortable. Naturally, if you see him shivering, it is time for a sweater and if he is reluctant to go out in the snow to potty. How warm your dog is able to keep himself may depend on his breed, size and even age, but if he does not have a heavy hair coat, there is only so much curling up he can do to overcome heat. Smaller, light bodied breeds, toy breeds and breeds that have naturally short or thin hair coats benefit from a warm sweater when going outside. Some breeds who may like extra warmth are Chihuahua, Greyhound, Terrier and Pinscher. Even pups who may have thicker hair and get frequent haircuts may get cold. Also, older dogs with weaker immune systems and dogs with diseases that impair hair growth (i.e. Cushings disease and hypothyroidism) Conversely, it’s best not to dress your pup if he has a dense coat. Their fur is already genetically designed to protect them from extreme Winter temperatures. Excellent examples are Siberian Husky, St. Bernard and Malamute. FINDING A GOOD SWEATER Be picky about the material you choose. While wool is very warm, it can be uncomfortable due to itching. A good blend of washable cotton and wool or acrylic may be the best. Measure your pup for the right fit so that he cannot easily pull the piece off, drag it on the ground or get caught on something. Also, it is just as important that it does not fit TOO TIGHT. The most important areas to measure are around the neck to the waist. The sweater’s length should end around the waist leaving the lower belly free. Knowing his actual weight will also help determine the correct size and of course, NEVER give them pants. Hope this has helped a little, however, I know a lot of this is common sense. If we lived up north, we would no doubt have a sweater handy for all of us!
