Board of Directors
A Message from the Board of Directors Dear Sterling Residents, Summer is officially here! I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what an eventful, unprecedented year it was on all of us. Last year was monumental for so many reasons but not all of them negative. One major positive was our turnover to homeowner control of our HOA. This historic occasion was shadowed by the pandemic, but I would like to provide some updates on what your volunteer Board of Directors has accomplished in our first 16 weeks since turnover and what is planned for the remainder of 2021. I also want to extend a thank you to my fellow Board members, Oliver McClellan, Vice President, Erin Mundy, Secretary, Rick Lamb, Treasurer, Gary Nix, John Swain and David Benson for all of their hard work and help over the past 4 months. Next, a big thank you to all of the volunteers who were appointed and serve on all of SOTL’s committees. Each committee has been working hard to get up to speed with the new Board and all have shown a great willingness to lend a hand to help build a better community for us all. I would be remis if I did not thank Erin Byers, Sterling’s new General Manager. Erin’s professionalism and work ethic has proven to be helpful to our community during a very challenging HOA transition. As a reminder, you can stay up to date via our community website, www.sterling-life.com, for helpful information including our DRC guidelines, links to committee information, contact the association and report issues. As you can see from the list below, it’s been a busy few months and we know there is much more to do. I am excited about the progress and the feedback we have received so far. Please keep your suggestions coming and I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable summer.
Since Turnover • February, Turnover from developer (Newland) to homeowner-controlled Board of Directors. • Bid Landscape contractors, renewing with Greenwood through September. • Various Maintenance Items o Repairs to the main family pool. o Painting of upper courts tennis bathroom building o Pressure washed amenity areas o Replaced several street signs o Purchased new elliptical and row machine Looking Ahead • Working with developer (Newland) to settle sediment claims on lake 3. • New social media communications site coming soon. • Resident Town Hall coming soon. • Rebidding of SOTL Landscape contract to be effective October 1. • Complete installation of lake pumps and common area irrigation. • The Board will be renewing our capital reserve study to renew and make any adjustments for 2022 and to ensure that we are adequately saving for future planned repairs to our community.

Pet Reminders If you are a pet owner, PLEASE keep in mind the following good neighbor tips. 1. Make sure that your pets are collared and have an identifying tag so that if they do escape, they can be returned to you. 2. Make sure dogs are on a leash, if not on your property, including when on common area. Dogs may not be off leash at any of the amenities, any time, including the lake, walking trails, and parks. 3. Make sure cats are not creating a nuisance for your neighbors. 4. Bring barking dogs into the house immediately. Remember Hall County animal control Ordinance states a dog is a public nuisance if it makes any vocalizations for more than fifteen (15) minutes without interruption or more than thirty (30) minutes if the vocalization is intermittent. 5. Always clean up after your pet when not in your own yard, including when on common areas (periodically remove waste from your yard as well to prevent health and odor problems). 6. If you are being bothered by a nuisance animal, I recommend first speaking with the pet owner in a pleasant, nonconfrontational way. Explain your position and try to reach an amicable solution. If a satisfactory solution cannot be reached, contact Hall County Animal Control at 770-531-6830 to file a complaint.
