KICK OFF FOR CHATEAU ELAN MEN’S POOL LEAGUE

Monday, October 14th at 7pm Every year we have our annual Kick-Off party for the Chateau Elan Men’s Pool League. The purpose of the party is to welcome new members, meet and mingle with guys from the whole league (currently around 140), put new members on teams or create new teams, explain the season format, give out awards from last season and raffle off billiard items and items from local businesses. We have held the Kick-Off party at the Legends Club house for seventeen years running with great turnouts. This event re-kindles some old friendships and creates new ones. During the pool season, you may not see most of these guys, so it is a good way to get everyone together in one place for a couple of hours. This year the Kick-Off party will be held at the Golf Pavilion on Golf Club Drive on Columbus day, Monday, October 14th at 7 pm. We gave out 51 awards from last year including the following 1st place – Season Division A (Team Woody Miscues) 2nd place – Team Tournament (Team Cue Tips) 1st place – Season Division B (Team Cue Tips) Most Improved Player – Mark Eubanks, 1st place – Season Division C (Team Fife) Doug Mitchell, Harry Gentry 1st place – Team Tournament (Team Woody Miscues) Highest Achievement – Bill Mays, Tom Denmark, Rick Jenkins We currently have 16 teams with an average of 7 to 8 members on a team in 3 divisions. The divisions are ranked based on the outcome of the previous year. The minimum makeup of a team is 6 members with no maximum limit. This is a great neighborhood function with all of the matches played in the homes of Chateau Elan. We have 3 goals: Meet some guys, have some fun and light competition. The matches are played on Sunday night with a default start time of 6 pm. The matches usually run 2 – 3 hours. We have a website that keeps track of all of the matches, scores, rules, divisions, players, averages, etc. This makes it convenient for the captains to create, print and update score sheets for each match. Any guys interested in joining our neighborhood function can email Bob Kindelberger (atlrdk@gmail.com). 4

BACK TO SCHOOL

Back to School

10

Early alarms, lunchboxes, school buses and carpool lines...it’s that time of the year again - Back to School! Whether you are a seasoned parent or the parent of a soon-to-be Kindergartener, it can get pretty hectic as we prepare our little ones for the school year. But amongst all the chaos that comes with this season, it is a great time to take a step back and reflect on the things that worked and didn’t work well the previous academic year. The start of a new academic year is a great time to start new traditions or new “family guidelines” before the year gets too hectic and busy with homework and after-school activities. Here are some great ideas to consider for your family: 1. Family Pizza Night - Make it a goal to have one night a week where everyone helps with dinner 2. Unplugged Sunday - Disconnecting from all devices for a 12 hour period (parents included) 3. Family Reading Night - Spending an evening where everyone in the family reads together 4. Responsibility Chart - Kicking off a new list of responsibilities for each member of the family to help the household run smoothly 5. Yes Day - Weekly or monthly day where you say yes to each child’s request (within reason) 6. Give Back Day - picking a day each month where as a family you do something to give back to your community 7. Board Game Night - a night where you play different board games as a family 8. Happiness Jar - Put a jar in the kitchen, where everyone can write on slips of paper different events or memories throughout the year that made them happy. At the end of the year everyone takes turns reading off all the different memories. Remember to put dates and names on the pieces of paper 9. High and Low of the Day and Why - at the end of the day, have each family member share their High (the highlight of their day) and why and their Low (the worst part of their day) and why 10. Weekly Family Meeting - An intentional meeting where all members of the family talk about the important things about the upcoming week and priorities Along with family traditions, there is the all important “capturing the first day of school” tradition. HERE ARE SOME TIPS: Plan a Week In Advance - Whether you make a 1st day of school sign, a special breakfast, plan to video interview each child, or take pictures of them at the bus stop, plan ahead at least a week before your kids start school. Create a new academic year album - Make a new album in your phone labeled “2019-2020 School Year.” Do this now, not tomorrow! Take several pics. Review your photos daily, weekly, or monthly. Delete the redundant ones, as this will help keep all of your pictures organized for the school year. Wake-up early - Plan to wake up well before the kids to get a jump start on this special day. Have fun and congratulations! You survived summer!
