FROM THE MANAGER

Mailbox MAINTENANCE Cast aluminum mailboxes are often the first choice among discerning homeowners when it comes to selecting a high quality residential mailbox for their home. In addition, as those who have studied the benefits of cast aluminum components, there are many reasons why cast aluminum residential mailboxes deserve this top billing. Traditions of Braselton offers two approved decorative mailboxes cast aluminum and pressed metal. Many homes require mailbox maintenance. This article will be of assistance should you plan to clean or paint your mailbox. Bird droppings often plague mailboxes and the high acidity can eat through paint causing discoloration. If you plan on painting it, you will need to thoroughly clean it with soap and water and make sure all grass and landscape debris are removed from the base so the paint adheres properly. You can use black Rustoleum that contains high pigment and high gloss for repainting box and use red for the flag. Tip: When painting the flag, you can place cardboard behind it to prevent overspray. Should you choose to remove the flag, there is a washer on the bolt and you will need to make sure you keep it as it can easily fall off during removal and you may lose it. If your brass numbers are dull, try using a product called Brasso or Tarn-X to shine them up. You can also apply car wax to the numbers to help keep them shiny and on your mailbox as well. Goop works well to hold numbers in place. If you prefer to have your mailbox professionally done or repaired, you can contact Brett Schwartz by email or phone gt2limes@aol.com / 918-605-4209. Charges of $55 typically apply.

STAY CONNECTED, TRADITIONS! If you have not yet done so, we encourage you to register your e-mail address with our community website. TENNIS

A SPORT FOR EVERYONE!

There are many opportunities for people of all ages to get into tennis and continue to play this sport. Tennis is one of the only sports you can play all your life, from the youngest ages to the oldest. But how do we get that message across to people, who don’t (yet) wake up every day thinking about this sport? We need to let people know that tennis is great for whatever ails you, and if nothing is ailing you right now, tennis will keep it that way. Also, tennis gives you all the benefits of working out in a gym, but it’s much more fun, exciting and social. Tennis can be the answer to virtually any type of issue. Want to lose weight? Want to get in better shape and tone muscles? Want to keep your mind sharp and reduce stress? Want to make more friends and expand your social network? Think tennis. Tennis not only is the sport for a lifetime, but it’s the sport for a longer, healthier and more complete lifetime.

NEWS FROM THE GOLF GROUPS

SENIOR MEN’S GOLF GROUP

LADIES’ GOLF GROUP

Currently, the ladies have two standing tee times Monday thru Friday starting at 9:20 AM. If you are interested in joining the Ladies Golf Group (even occasionally), please email Pam Poppe at ppoppe@ mindspring.com if you wish to be included. Each Friday, Pam sends an email to the group asking which days you are interested in golfing during the coming week. She only asks for a 48-hour notice so she can add or cancel tee times. Don’t worry about handicaps since the skill levels vary widely. These women golf for fun! If the morning times don’t work for you, please let Pam know if you are interested in playing 9 holes at other times of the day.

MEN’S GROUP (MGA)

Come out and meet your neighbors in a fun and welcoming group. The TOB men have weekly organized games on Wednesdays at 1:00 PM and Saturdays/Sundays starting at 8:00 AM. We also sponsor diverse and fun monthly tournaments throughout the year. The MGA has neighbors of all skill levels and ages. For additional information please contact Mike Brunson - 706-380-7031 or email- traditionsmga@gmail.com

The senior men gather to play an organized format of stroke play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You never know who you will get paired with on these days, so it’s a great opportunity to meet your fellow neighbors and make new friends. On Thursdays, it’s just pair-up and play as you like. The course is closed on Tuesdays. Currently, our block of tee times starts at 10:00 AM. As the weather warms up, our standing tee tie will move to 9:30 AM. You can play as often or as little as you like; just show up at least 15 minutes before the first tee time. This is a social group with members of varying skill levels. Every spring and fall the men gather at the Club Grill for a fun evening with their significant others. For more information, contact Steve Morrell at 1-706-6546034 (H) or on his cell at 770-861-610. HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I SPEND AT THE GYM? Thirty minutes? An hour? Speaking from past experience, if I didn’t spend an hour at the gym, I felt like I didn’t get a good workout. Today, I am happy to share we don’t need to spend an hour in the gym to receive great results! Who has the time anyway? I encourage everyone to be less concerned about how much time they spend in the gym, and more concerned on what they do when at the gym. These days, we train specifically and the word for it is Specificity. It has to do with how our bodies adapt to the type of training we undertake. Simply put, it means that if a fitness goal is to increase flexibility, then flexibility training must be done (think Yoga). Do we want to run a 5K? Hit the pavement and start doing interval training. Do we want to get stronger? Start strength training progressing with heavier weights as you get stronger. If we play a certain sport, we probably are already training with specificity. So, let’s think about this next time we go to the gym or workout: It’s not how long we train but how we train that counts! And, speaking of training, it’s not too late to come to Aqua class! We are going strong and classes will continue on Mondays & Fridays at 9:30 AM till the end of September. We’d love to have you drop in any day. Also, I instruct a Yoga class in Jefferson if you would like to become more flexible, release stress, get stronger, have more balance/ focus. Take Julie’s Yoga class offered here in the community. Yoga doesn’t replace our workouts but is a wonderful addition and enhancement to our work outs. Keep moving, stay strong, deal with stress in a healthy manner and love your life and people! PA R A N’S C O R N E R

Welcome to the NEIGHBORHOOD! Please join us in welcoming Devon, Tish, Donny and the rest of the Gales family to Traditions of Braselton! You may recall that during a game between the Southern University Jaguars and the Georgia Bulldogs on September 26, 2015, Devon sustained a traumatic spinal injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. In the nearly four years since, an outpouring from the football, construction and media communities has led to the donation of land by Paran Homes within Traditions of Braselton and the construction of a stunning custom home by Currahee Home Builders – fully furnished and innovatively designed for accessibility by the nonprofit Sunshine on a Ranney Day to make Devon feel right at home. On July 11, the Gales family enjoyed a private reveal of their new home, followed by one big BASH of a block party on August 10 to welcome the formerly Baton Rouge, LA-based family to the neighborhood. The day included live music, food and drink vendors, videos on an outdoor big screen, chances to rub elbows with Bulldog alumni and former players, and opportunities to meet our lovely new neighbors. Thank you very much to all of you who attended. We hope you had FUN! Many caring people and organizations came together to make the Gales’ dream home a reality. Joining forces with Currahee Home Builders, Paran Homes and Sunshine on a Ranney Day were so many recognizable brands, including American Signature Furniture, Builders First Source, Farmers Insurance, Huber Engineered Woods, Jackson EMC, Mitsubishi Electric, Mohawk Industries, Overhead Door, Phillips, Sherwin-Williams, Vulcan Materials Company, WSB, University of Georgia and countless others. Now it’s our job as their neighbors to make the Gales family feel welcome at Traditions of Braselton. This brave young man and his family have waited so long to be a part of our very special community – let’s make their new life here well-worth the wait. To learn more about Devon’s story, make a donation and view the complete list of Build For Devon sponsors, please visit www.buildfordevon.com.
