Access to high caliber education contributes to a strong economy, and the Greater Hall Chamber is dedicated to education initiatives that bring opportunity and quality of life to our community. Creating skilled workers for an economy that is constantly changing requires strategic investments and top-notch education and workforce development programs. By collaborating with area employers, educators and business leaders, the Greater Hall Chamber’s Workforce Development Task Force is making great strides. The increase in participation in work-based learning and apprenticeships is helping us meet our goal of securing a sustainable workforce. Be sure to attend (in person or via zoom) the Small Business Seminar on August 10 (9-10am) as Shelley Logan and Greg Vitek of Workforce Strategies Group provide local workforce solutions, like youth apprentice programs and work-based learning, to create a competent workforce, address the growing skills gap and support a company's growth strategy. Other Chamber-sponsored education initiatives include Partners in Education (PIE). PIE stimulates meaningful business and community involvement in public schools through partnerships with industries, businesses, professional organizations, churches and civic clubs. Schools are able to tap resources to meet the individual needs of each student body, provide excellent educational programming and recognize achievement. With over
350 partnering organizations, PIE provides increased educational and enrichment opportunities for students aimed at improving levels of achievement, self-esteem and understanding of the expectations of employers. The Greater Hall Chamber recently announced the 16th class of Youth Leadership Hall (YLH) with 80 students representing all 12 public and private high schools in Gainesville-Hall County. Initiated in 2005, the program now has 1,023 student graduates. A program for high school juniors and seniors, YLH seeks to provide an investment in the community’s future leadership by fostering interest in the community and inspiring students to become the leaders of tomorrow. The Chamber's Leadership Hall County (LHC) program kicks off this month and celebrates its 39th anniversary. LHC offers current and potential leaders the opportunity to learn the interrelated economic, government, socio-cultural and educational issues of the community. With 970 graduates, LHC is a highly regarded group of professionals, and graduates continue to be involved in many areas of volunteer and civic service. We thank our education partners for their efforts to make our community the best place in Georgia to live and learn – Lanier Technical College, University of North Georgia, Brenau University, Gainesville City Schools, Hall County Schools, Lakeview Academy, Lanier Christian Academy, Riverside Military Academy and others. Plan to attend the upcoming South Hall Business Coalition meeting in person on August 17 (9-10am) at Lanier College & Career Academy for an update on the Hall County School System by Superintendent Will Schofield. We are fortunate to have such valuable partnerships with our educational professionals and institutions along with outstanding Chamber programs and resources. Join us as we focus on continued learning and building a worldclass labor pool.

Starting and ending at City Park, the race features chip timing, a commemorative t-shirt, refreshments and age group awards. An evening of fun follows at Lake Lanier Olympic Park (6pm) with entertainment, food, beer, wine and historic Olympic moments. Dance the night away (8pm) with one of Atlanta's premiere party bands "We Got The Beat!" And, enjoy a Grand Finale Fireworks Spectacular (10 pm) to conclude the event. economic development University of North Georgia: Expansion & Economic Impact An annual report from the University System of Georgia (USG) shows the University of North Georgia (UNG) – with five campuses across the region – made an impact of almost $720 million on Northeast Georgia during the 2020 fiscal year. The USG study showed that the impact included $692 million in spending and jobs and an additional $27 million impact attributed to capital construction projects. Included in UNG's economic impact is nearly $337 million in spending by about 20,000 students, which alone created 2,881 jobs in the area. On average, for every dollar spent by the university, an additional 47 cents is generated for the region. UNG, which has campuses in Blue Ridge, Cumming, Dahlonega, Gainesville, and Oconee County, also had a regional employment impact of 6,411 jobs in the same period. The employment impact includes on-campus and off-campus jobs. USG's 2020 graduates who work in Georgia are expected to bring in a combined $175 billion in lifetime earnings, of which $59 billion (34 percent) can be attributed to their degrees.
Bonita Jacobs, President of the University of North Georgia, along with university administrators and community leaders, toured the Gainesville Campus expansion of facilities formerly occupied by Lanier Technical College. The expansion includes spaces for high-demand programs, including Health Sciences, Film and Digital Media, and Environmental and Spatial Analysis. The renovated facilities also feature the Department of Visual Arts, a new Student Health Services Center, and the Office of Professional and Continuing Education. UNG serves 20,000 students across its five campuses and more than 7,500 students at the Gainesville Campus specifically. The new facilities open to students this fall. UNG.edu

The award highlights accomplishments in the tourism industry. Stacey Dickson, President of Lake Lanier CVB, said, "The new Margaritaville RV Resort has proven to be a great addition to our beautiful lake's amenities. Camping grew by 300% nationally during the COVID-19 pandemic, and these facilities attracted RVers to our community and helped support other businesses in areas like food and beverage." The modern world often puts tremendous stress on your mental health – something that has only been exacerbated by the global COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, United Way of Hall County and the Cresswind Community Fund will provide FREE Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in Hall County. The availability of this training to Hall County residents age 55-plus was initiated by Wisdom Project 2030 as part of United Way of Hall County’s One Hall United Against Poverty collaborative. “We are so excited that we were able to sync up these incredible efforts to boost our community’s mental wellbeing,” United Way of Hall County President Jessica Dudley said. “Just knowing that we will have more people in the community ready to respond to potential mental health issues is a blessing, and we believe this may make a huge difference throughout Hall County. We are so thankful for the Cresswind Community Fund and Wisdom Project 2030 for having this vision and coming together with United Way of Hall County to help make it happen.” As part of an all-day course, trainees are taught targeted training methods that could prove essential to the mental well-being of anyone they encounter. Those interested in receiving MHFA training may attend in-person sessions. These seminars will take place at two locations: the Jackson EMC Community Room, 1000 Dawsonville Hwy in Gainesville, and the Melrose Art & Activities Center, 854 Davis Street in Gainesville. Hall Recovers Night of Awareness
J's Place and community partners host event to recognize those we have lost as a result of substance abuse and honor those in recovery J's Place Recovery Center and community partners will host the 2nd Annual Hall Recovers Night of Awareness on Tuesday, August 31 (6:30-8:30pm) at Roosevelt Square in Downtown Gainesville. The event, presented by Northeast Georgia Health System, is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and is held on International Overdose Awareness Day to recognize those we have lost as a result of substance use disorder and to honor those in recovery. Commemorative t-shirts will be given to the first 100 attendees. The event includes food, music, raffles and prize drawings. Individuals and advocates of recovery will be highlighted with the evening culminating in a candlelight vigil recognizing loved ones we have lost. Parking is available at the Hall County Parking Deck or at the Brenau Downtown Center Parking Deck. A convenient shuttle service will run from parking decks to the venue. Protective Angel Sculptures A new piece of VISION 2030 Public Art, dedicated to the men and women of Hall County Fire Services, was recently installed at Hall County Fire Station 6 in Lula. The sculpture is one of several “protective angels” placed at public safety facilities throughout Hall County as a part of the Chamber’s VISION 2030 Public Art effort. “This particular project pays special tribute to those who serve as protective angels within our community – the members of Hall County’s public safety agencies,” said Frank Norton, Jr., chair of the VISION 2030 Public Art Committee. “It really serves a dual purpose. It helps us reach our goal of putting art everywhere while making sure that art is meaningful and significant to those who see it on a daily basis.” The artist behind the sculpture, Jeff Armour, is a Lula resident. Hall County Fire Chief Chris Armstrong said having the piece made by a member of the Lula community is especially heartwarming. “It is truly an honor to accept this sculpture on behalf of Hall County Fire Services,” Armstrong said. “The support of this community means everything to our agency, and having a local artist craft this piece as a tribute to the men and women who serve him and his neighbors on a day-to-day basis is humbling to say the least.” VISION2030.org
