The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce's Annual Transportation Forum is Wednesday, March 14 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Gainesville State College, Continuing Education Building #10. The event is open to the public and creates discussion with Chamber members, business and community leaders, and transportation professionals. The forum will cover all the details on the TSPLOST Referendum on July 31. TSPLOST Referendum facts and projects along with display maps and handout information will be provided by the Gainesville Hall County Todd Long Georgia Department of MPO and Georgia Mountains Regional Transportation, Director of Commission. Discussion will also cover local Planning transportation projects. The Special Guest Speaker is Todd Long, Georgia Department of Transportation Director of Planning with the introduction of Bayne Smith, PT, PTOE, the new GDOT District 1 Engineer. David Abee is Market President for Regions Bank based in Gainesville and responsible for all of the bank’s operations in Northeast Georgia – covering all markets north to Highlands, NC. David's 20 year banking career includes positions in Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial & Business Banking, Retail Banking, as well as regional and state leadership roles. David is locally involved serving on several boards, including Vision 2030, Junior Achievement of Northeast Georgia, The Arts Council and the Quinlan Visual Arts Center. David is a member of the Gainesville Rotary Club, The Arbor Circle Committee for Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and is the 2012 Chair for the American Heart Association’s Heartwalk.

Gainesville-native Karen Baston is a Medical Real Estate Specialist for Sperry Van Ness/Hokayem Company, Inc. Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, Karen served as principal for kbMedical, LLC, a practice management and consulting company. Previously, Karen served as Chief Operating Officer for Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic. A registered nurse, Karen’s career began at Northeast Georgia Medical Center where she held both clinical and administrative responsibilities. Upon leaving NGMC, she managed emergency medicine and anesthesia departments throughout the U. S. for a national practice management company. Karen is a member of the Medical Group Manager’s Association, the Georgia Medical Group Managers Association and the local Lake Lanier Chapter of MGMA. She is School Council President at Mt. Vernon Elementary and volunteers at Lakewood Baptist Church.

A native of Miami, FL, John is a graduate of North Hall High, Gainesville State College and North Georgia College. He founded J Geyer Advertising in 1993 and acquired The Trophy Case in 2002. J Geyer Advertising specializes in corporate branding including screen printing, embroidery and promotional products. The Trophy Case offers team trophies, corporate awards, letter jackets and high school spirit wear. John is a graduate of Leadership Hall County and former president of the Gainesville Jaycees. He was named to the Times’ "40 under 40" and a “Master Entrepreneur” by the Featherbone Communiversity in 2011. He has served on multiple boards including North Georgia Ad Club, Challenged Child and Friends, and is a retired Gainesville Parks & Recreation Little League coach.

Tony partnered with Jason and Jack Everett of Budget Carpet to purchase Gainesville Paint in 2009. Since then Gainesville Paint has changed locations, computer systems, and product lines but they never lost sight of what was most important: their customers. Tony uses local resources like the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce to be a successful and contributing member of the North Georgia community. He is a Leadership Hall County graduate and a member of the Paint and Decorating Retailers Association. Tony served in the military and now enjoys traveling and photography. After growing up on various Army bases, Tony is happy to put down roots in North Georgia and watch his family and business grow.

William Bagwell, Jr., managing partner of Homestead Investments, LLC, is a fourth generation Hall County resident. He manages property for Northeast Georgia Real Estate and is involved in a family timber operation. He previously owned and operated Homestead Farms in Canon, Georgia. While employed at the Greater Hall Chamber, he held the positions of Vice President of Economic Development and Government Affairs. William is a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville and a member of the Gainesville and Hall County Economic Development Council. He also serves on First Century Bank and Lanier Technical College Foundation Boards of Directors. He is a member of the Board of Natural Resources for the State of Georgia and a graduate of Presbyterian College, Clinton, South Carolina.

The Longstreet Clinic
Jullie G. King is Director of Community Development and Human Resources for The Longstreet Clinic, an independent physician practice and one of the largest private, multi-specialty physician practices in Georgia with nine locations in Northeast Georgia. Jullie participates in a number of community committees and organizations focused on health care issues including the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition and the Greater Hall Chamber Healthcare Committee. Jullie is in her 13th year of employment with The Longstreet Clinic and is a graduate of Brenau College and The College of William and Mary. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources Management; member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville and the Junior League of Gainesville Hall County.

Lake Lanier Islands Resort
Grier Todd, Chief Operating Officer of Islands Management Company, LLC, oversees the operations and managing the capital development of Lake Lanier Islands Resort. Grier is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and began his career as a high school football coach. After 35 years, he left coaching to become the City Executive for Banker’s Trust of South Carolina, then a partner in the national management development firm of Mooney, Player, Partners & Associates. He moved to Georgia in 1992 to serve as the Travel and Training Camp Coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. In 2001, he joined Lake Lanier Islands Resort as the Manager of the resort’s Harbor Landing and in 2002 was promoted to Director of Hotel Operations at the Emerald Pointe Hotel and Conference Center. In August of 2005, Todd was named Chief Operating Officer of Islands Management Company, LLC by the Virgil R. Williams family, the lease owners of Lake Lanier Islands Resort.
TSPLOST Referendum on July 31 The Transportation Investment Act allows voters in the Georgia Mountains region to provide funding for transportation projects over a 10-year period through a one percent sales tax. The TSPLOST Voter Referendum is July 31, 2012.

McEver Road Intersection Improvements at Gaines Ferry, Lights Ferry, and Stephens Road. 4. Widening of Sardis Road from SR 60/Thompson Bridge Road to Sardis Road. 5. Widening of Spout Springs Road from Hog Mountain Road to Gwinnett County. 6. Widening of SR 211/Old Winder Highway from SR 53/Winder Highway to the Gwinnett County Line.
The Georgia Mountains region includes Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Kit Dunlap Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White President & CEO, Greater Hall counties. All money raised in the region will stay Chamber of Commerce in the region. With the passage of the TSPLOST, Hall County and its municipalities will be better equipped with the transportation infrastructure to attract economic development and create jobs.
7. Widening of US 129/SR 11/Athens Highway from SR 323/Gillsville Highway
The regional projects, that will be supported by TSPLOST dollars, were developed by local elected officials and will be voted upon and supervised by the public. 75% of all funds raised in the region will be spent on regional projects, and 25% of all funds raised in the region will be returned directly to local jurisdictions. Hall County would receive a total of approximately $360 million – a $1.45 return for every $1 raised.

Transportation Forum, continued page 1 Todd Long began his career with the Georgia Department of Transportation in 1990, serving in the Office of Planning in Atlanta. In 1996, Long moved to the Gainesville office, eventually becoming District Engineer. In 2005, Long returned to DOT headquarters and served as Director of Administration/Preconstruction, and in 2008 became the Director of Business Operations for the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority. As a result of 2009 legislation, Long was selected by Governor Perdue to fill a critical role mandated by the passing of Senate Bill 200: Director of Planning. Long is responsible for a variety of reporting and planning activities directed from the legislation. He also directs the full planning team at DOT and coordinates with external transportation organizations across Georgia to help form the best transportation system for the State’s citizens. As part of AT&T's four-year $100 million support of public schools in the U.S., the company is hosting job shadowing events with high school students. Over 300 Hall County and Gainesville high school students have toured the AT&T work location on Broad Street in Gainesville. Technicians and local managers including Paul Chambers, in conjunction with AT&T retiree pioneers have hosted the students. AT&T, working through the local junior achievement office, pays for the bus transportation and lunch for the students. The class started their day at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County where they heard from several staff members about the organization and played interactive games with other classmates and staff. At Challenged Child & Friends they toured the campus and interacted with the children in the classrooms. The group traveled to Northeast Georgia Health System where they enjoyed a great lunch provided by the hospital and took a tour of the ER, Lab and Stribling Heart Center. After hearing about Laurelwood and participating in team building games, the group participated in a service project at the Humane Society. Leadership Hall County class members and Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce officials met with Governor Nathan Deal and Senator Butch Miller at the State Capitol. The famous Gainesville-Hall County chicken boxes were delivered to the Legislature on February 9 as part of "Gainesville-Hall County Day." Hall County delegates recognized the class and the group enjoyed lunch with Lt. Governor Casey Cagle while hearing an update of session goals from our representatives. Mike Giles and Abit Massey, Georgia Poultry Federation, spoke on their role as lobbyists. Thanks to Senator Miller and Rep.
