A Citizen Wherever We Serve

I am honored and excited to serve as the 2024-2025 Greater Hall Chamber Board Chair. At Georgia Power, we have a motto that each employee embraces as part of our workplace culture. That motto is, “A Citizen Wherever We Serve.” Being a citizen wherever we serve requires me to not only live within our community, but to become actively engaged in the community’s growth and development. In April 2017, I made a commitment to this community to become actively engaged. That engagement started with the Greater Hall Chamber and spread to other boards, and city and county appointments.

I enjoy being a part of this community and am proud to call it home. It is important for me to see our local businesses prosper. I have had the opportunity to see that growth first-hand by working side by side with our community leaders. To see the tremendous growth in just the past seven years makes me not only proud, but also excited to see what the future holds. I am hopeful that I can play a small role to help take us to the next level and contribute – like so many before me – to making Gainesville-Hall County the best place in Georgia to live, work and play.

The Greater Hall Chamber's mission is to support an aggressive business environment, serving as a resource for information, supporting member growth, and enhancing our community’s quality of life. With high inflation, ongoing supply chain and employee shortages, our community needs a strong ecosystem of business leaders and employers, now, more than ever. It is our goal to assist all members in their continued success and contributions to our community's quality of life. As the strongest voice for business in our area, it is important for us to band together as a business community and promote policies that will address the challenges we face today. One major issue is transportation, and we will have the opportunity to take our first step towards positive movement with the T-SPLOST referendum on November 5th. We must educate our citizens on the benefits of passing the T-SPLOST, and I am asking each of you to become a “Citizen Wherever You Serve” and support the T-SPLOST referendum. It is the first step towards better transportation for our community.

Whether your business is new to the area, or you have been around for a long time, please do not hesitate to contact us if we can assist in any way. The Chamber Board of Directors is comprised of bright, professional men and women who work across all aspects of business, and with the Chamber’s seasoned staff, give their time, talent, and energy to make the Chamber an asset to its members. I look forward to working to continue to move Hall County forward with the right economic growth that fits within the needs of our community.

Small Business of the Year Sweet Magnolias

Family Business of the Year Syfan Logistics

The Syfan Family has been a fixture in the nationwide transportation business and a huge economic contributor in Hall County for nearly 40 years with two companies – the former Turbo Transport and today’s Syfan Logistics. Company CEO Jim Syfan started the venture alongside Jim’s wife, Gloria, and their two sons, Greg and Steve, in a tiny trailer next to a busy railroad track. Today, Syfan Logistics has grown to over 450 team members with thousands of truck carrier partners, its own Syfan Transport fleet, and a customer base stretching throughout the US, Mexico, and Canada. Community service is deeply imbedded into the company’s culture and they support local nonprofits and come to the aid of neighbors by delivering needed supplies after natural disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, and severe winter storms throughout the Southeast. syfanlogistics.com

Family Business of the Year Inn-Between Deli

Dharma & Paresh Patel came to Gainesville/Hall County 20 years ago and started Freddy’s Food Mart and gas station. They found Sweet Magnolias Café & Bakery for sale online and purchased the business in 2012 and continue to serve and support us by providing delicious, fresh food. Centrally located on the Downtown Gainesville Square, Sweet Magnolias anchors Main Street Market and offers an array homemade goodies including gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, and the popular Rebecca’s Famous chicken salad. Their catering business continues to grow. Dharma and Paresh are longtime Chamber supporters and provide community service to the Northeast Georgia Humane Society and several local churches and events. Facebook/sweetmagnolias.com

The Dunlap Family lived right down the road and grew up eating Inn-Between Deli sandwiches from the tiny shop on Green Street. Seen by many as a local institution, it opened in 1968 by Carl Rogers and Bobby Lawson. Then, Wesley and Suzanne Gailey had the InnBetween for 43 years! David Dunlap and sons, Anderson and Blake, purchased the deli, and Anderson oversees the operation known for a quick, no fuss, delicious sandwiches - like the longtime favorite Turkey on a poppy seed kaiser roll and new additions like the Italian sandwich and the chicken salad. In 2017, the Dunlaps added a second location on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville. It’s truly a family operation. Instagram/theinnbetweendeli

North Georgia Land Trust

Land Trust

Past Chamber Board Chairman and commercial realtor Brent Hoffman founded the North Georgia Land Trust in 2023. The community-based nonprofit's sole purpose is to permanently conserve land and create greenspace throughout the region.

Would you like to protect your land?

Want to preserve more greenspace in North Georgia?

Robust economic development in North Georgia is creating jobs and helping North Georgia families, but equally important is the need to conserve greenspace for future generations to enjoy. We believe both development and conservation can happen together.

At the North Georgia Land Trust, we are passionately recruiting and building an organization of local landowners, local donors, businesses, and other like-minded individuals who support our primary goals: To protect, hold, promote, educate, and organize more greenspace in North Georgia – forever. These benefits include the protection of habitats for native plants and animals, improving water and air quality, and maintaining distinctive scenic areas such as streams and forests that define our North Georgia region. North Georgia Land Trust board members are Phil Bonelli, John Vardeman, Dixie Truelove, Wes Robinson, RK Whitehead and Brent Hoffman CEO/Founder.

Join our passion to preserve greenspace

If you are a landowner interested in keeping your property green forever – or limiting its development – give us a call. We can discuss several ways for you to voluntarily partner with us – and also potentially benefit from tax deductions.

If you just have an interest in seeing and enjoying more greenspace, you can become a member supporter of North Georgia Land Trust. All donations are tax deductible. To get started, call 770-540-5373, or visit NorthGeorgiaLandTrust.org.
