The life we live today is the legacy of tomorrow

William Bagwell

Homestead Investments, 2022-23 Chairman, Greater Hall Chamber

As I take on the role as Chamber Chairman, I reflect on goals for the coming year. The truth of the matter is that I see our primary goal is the continuance on the good path we're currently on. I'm not just referring to economic and community development or governmental affairs. That is all part of it, but this path is much bigger than just those initiatives. For me, I am looking at the total package.

It is truly important to me that – as a community, as individuals – we don’t forget who we are or where we come from. I believe that often communities may grow too fast or grow without good guidance. Other times, communities may grow slowly because of an anti-growth sentiment or the fear of change. Neither of these scenarios are healthy for community growth.

the parable of the talents? It’s been said many times, "It doesn’t matter what you have, it’s what you do with it that makes a difference." I hope we take this precious gift of community we have been entrusted with and make the most of it. As good as it is today, there are always ways to make it better for those who come after us. Let’s be good stewards, roll up our sleeves, and push in the same direction. That is what the folks before us did. I imagine they expect us to do it as well. At the end of the day, the life we live today is the legacy that is created for tomorrow. So let’s lean in, and make it count. Whatever you are working on, ask God for guidance, wisdom and the ability to think clearly, then go to work and work hard to accomplish the goal set before you.

Candidly, the folks who have come before us have laid the good groundwork for us to maintain a balance between growing too fast and not growing at all. Will bad things happen to us? Yes, they will. Will good things happen to us? Yes, they will. Will our economy slow down this year? Probably. Many would say it already has. Some would say it did a few months ago, and now we are on the slow climb back up. Regardless of what happens, our community is positioned well. When something bad happens, I had rather be here with my friends and neighbors. Likewise, when something good happens, I had rather be here with my friends and neighbors. The point is, we choose to be here. It’s a good place, full of good people and reflects the hard work, Siblings Emily Bagwell and William Bagwell, 2022-2023 Chamber Chairman. Emily and William's mother, Joanne blood, sweat and tears of the God-fearing people who Bagwell, served as the first female president of the came before us. Chamber in 1988. Emily followed in her mother's footsteps and served as Chamber Chair in 2009-2010. William It’s all about each of us taking the gifts we have been took over as Chamber Chairman on July 1, 2022, creating entrusted with and making the most of them, then the first mother, daughter, son chairs of the Greater Hall passing them down to the next generation. Remember Chamber in its 115 year history. 2
