Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) employs over 10,000 people and continues to rank as one of the nation's leading healthcare organizations with 1.5 million patient visits in 2022 at five hospitals and 95 Northeast Georgia Physician Group locations. According to the Georgia Hospital Association, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) has a $4.2 billion annual impact on the local community and state. Construction is underway to expand NGMC Gainesville with a new 927,000-square-foot patient tower that will make NGMC the third-largest hospital in Georgia by bed size and the Graduate Medical Education program has contributed over $66 million into Hall County’s economy from 2019 to 2023.

The Chamber continues to be a catalyst for connecting health and wellness Initiatives to local businesses and oversees a set of community-wide programs and events. Health & Wellness Seminars are held monthly on topics of importance, and the HealthSmart Wellness Expo, presented by NGHS and Longstreet Clinic, is October 4 featuring some 60 booth exhibits providing interactive wellness services. The event, free and open to the public, focuses on community health and wellness including FREE Community Health Screenings. We'll also be announcing the Most Fit Company Awards recognizing employers providing outstanding health programs. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Glennis Barnes joined Mississippi Power Company in 1991 as a marketing specialist. Throughout the years, he took on roles of increasing responsibility at the company. In 2001, Glennis came to Georgia Power’s Northeast Region as a Client Manager in Sales and Marketing. In 2003, he joined the Governmental Affairs team as a Legislative Affairs Coordinator representing Georgia Power at the Georgia General Assembly for 14 years. Glennis currently serves as the Gainesville Area Manager for Georgia Power with responsibility for Hall, Dawson, Lumpkin, Barrow, and Jackson counties. He is a graduate of Leadership Gulf Coast, the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Economic Development Course, Leadership Hall County and the Georgia Academy for Economic Development. In addition to serving as Chamber Vice Chair of Economic Development, he serves on Gwinnett County Schools Human Resources Advisory Council. Glennis is a member of the University of North Georgia Board of Trustees, Junior Achievement Board, the Northeast Georgia Health System Board, the Gainesville-Hall Development Authority and the Gainesville-Hall County Land Bank Authority. His greatest joys are developing, mentoring, and coaching young men about life and their responsibilities to mankind. Glennis and his wife, Tamika, have three sons, Ashton, Taj, and Darius.

The Greater Hall Chamber's Annual Industry Appreciation Luncheon on November 15th will feature an Economic Outlook by Georgia native Roger Tutterow, Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University. Tutterow's analysis of the economic, business and political environments have been featured in a variety of media including Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Business Week, Forbes, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution, NPR’s “Marketplace” and “All Things Considered,” CNN-Radio as well as by regional electronic and print media.

A native of Jasper, Alabama and a Brenau College graduate, Kit has led the Chamber since 1998. She is a leader in economic and community development and at the top of the industry among fellow executives. She is a founding member of the Gainesville-Hall County Economic Development Council and served as the council's first chairman in 1992.

Tim Evans | Senior Vice President

A native of Jackson County, Tim has been in the Economic Development field for nearly 30 years. He has served as the Vice President of the Greater Hall Chamber since 2005. Tim previously served the Georgia Department of Economic Development in several roles, including Assistant Deputy Commissioner.

Gerri Collins | Executive Assistant

Gerri is a Florida native, and after more than three decades and various roles in the banking industry, she joined the Chamber staff in 2015 as Executive Assistant. Gerri is responsible for administrative duties and coordinating Chamber Board of Directors meetings.

A native of Hall County, Nikki graduated from North Hall High School and attended Gainesville College and Brenau University. She joined the Chamber's Economic Development Team in 2020 and is responsible for existing industry projects and workforce development.

Abby joined the Chamber as an intern in 2022. A native of Concord, Georgia she recently graduated from the University of North Georgia and now works full time for the Chamber as a project manager responsible for small business development and health/wellness initiatives.

A longtime Gainesville resident, Mark is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and joined the Chamber staff in 2021. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in accounting and business management and is responsible for finance and human resources.

Anna is a Hall County native and a graduate of Gainesville High School and the University of Georgia. She joined the Chamber as a project manager in 2021 and became Executive Director of Vision 2030 in 2022. Anna is responsible for all Vision 2030 committees and initiatives.

A native of Connecticut, Robin graduated from Johnson & Wales in Providence RI. She joined the Chamber staff in 2003 as manager of the Welcome Center, a role she maintains today. In 2006, Robin took over responsibility for Chamber community development initiatives.

Christen is a graduate of Texas State University and located to Hall County in 2000. She joined the Chamber staff in 2016 and is responsible for membership sales and retention efforts, as well as member relations, networking events, ribbon cuttings and Chamber Ambassador activities.

Ellie is a lifelong resident of Flowery Branch and a graduate of Mercer University. She joined the Chamber staff in 2021 as a project manager before stepping into her current role. She is responsible for recruiting sponsorships and executing large-scale membership events.

Ryan Jackson | Project Manager, Economic Development

Ryan is a Hall County native and a graduate of The University of Georgia. He joined the Chamber staff in July and is responsible for developing economic development digital marketing content, commercial real estate data and providing support to new and expanding businesses.

Born and raised in Hall County, Marissa is a graduate of North Hall High School and the University of North Georgia. She joined the Chamber staff in January 2023 and assists with membership events, recruitment campaigns and committee activities.

Bankrate analyzed 212 metro areas to create the Housing Heat Index and examined appreciation of home values, employment levels, job growth, population trends, homes listed for sale and typical selling times. Through a combined analysis of these categories, Gainesville-Hall County ranks number one for hottest housing market in the nation. • Syfan Logistics had great success with its first ever 5K fundraiser. Located in the heart of Downtown Gainesville, the Courtyard by Marriott Gainesville opened its doors with a ribbon cutting in August. The new 77,000 square-foot property with 130 rooms is Gainesville's largest hotel and anchors The National, a revival and redevelopment with new conference and event space, The Vault. Courtyard by Marriott Gainesville, as well as The National and The Vault, were developed by owners Capstone Property Group. McKibbon Places oversaw the development and construction of the project, and McKibbon Hospitality will operate the hotel and The Vault, employing 40 individuals. An exciting project for McKibbon, Courtyard by Marriott Gainesville marks the company’s 100th hotel in the town where the company got its start nearly 100 years ago.

Celebrating 30 years in business

Chattahoochee Marketing Group (CMG) began in 1992 as StitchTech in Charleston, South Carolina. Rick and Susan Boyd establish the full-service embroidery operation and relocated the company to Gainesville as a result of Rick’s participation in the 1993 Georgia Chamber Red Carpet Tour that Gainesville-Hall County hosted that year. They leased space in the old Gainesville Mill complex on Georgia Avenue, where their business still resides. CMG celebrates 30 years of business this year and is one of the largest contract embroidery operations in the Southeast. For many years CMG ran a successful sports cap program and produced caps for the winning teams of various athletic championships including the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four and the Stanley Cup. CMG produced and shipped as many as 45,000 caps within a 24-hour timespan! Jimmy Adams, President & CEO of Corporate Storage, cuts a ribbon at the company's new headquarters expansion in Gainesville-Hall County. The opening of Corporate Storage's 146,000 square foot facility on Atlanta Highway brings the total warehouse space to 421,000 square feet locally. Hall County Delegation Visits Inland Port

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) hosted a Hall County Delegation for a tour of the Appalachian Regional Port Terminal in Chatsworth-Murray County. The 104-acre Northeast Georgia Inland Port Terminal, located on I-985 in Gainesville-Hall County, will be a new containerized freight route for Northeast Georgia businesses to connect to the Port of Savannah and the world. The new inland port is anticipated for completion in 2026 with initial capacity to handle 80,000 containers/year, growing to 200,000 containers/year at full operation. Industry Apprenticeship 101 Recognition

Vision 2030 Celebration

A Protective Angel sculpture was dedicated to the men and women of Hall County Fire Rescue at Hall County Fire Station 5. Protective Angel sculptures can be seen at several public safety facilities throughout Hall County and serve as reminders that first responders are never alone and are followed by the community’s love and support as they serve on the front lines to protect the community. The angel, created by Gainesville artist Jane Taylor, was donated as part of the Greater Hall Chamber’s Vision 2030 Public Art initiative and funded through a grant from the North Georgia Community Foundation and an anonymous donation. vision2030.org

The Vision 2030 Board hosted its first Celebration & Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on August 15 at the NGHS Plaza Pavilion at Lake Lanier Olympic Park. Kayak Shack highlighted in Georgia Trend

Senator Shelly Echols, Commissioner Kathy Cooper and Hall County officials cut a ribbon to open the new section of the Highlands to Islands Trail at Tumbling Creek, extending the existing trail to the new pedestrian bridge near the University of North Georgia campus in Oakwood. This connection will allow people to walk or bike from UNG to Lee Gilmer Airport in Gainesville. Vision 2030's Greenspace Committee was instrumental in the development of the Highland to Islands trail system. Once complete, the trail will connect all of Hall County with a 40-mile stretch of paved trails, allowing users to walk or bike from Downtown Gainesville to Lake Lanier Islands. highlandstoislands.org

Georgia Trend highlighted Gainesville Parks & Recreation's Kayak Vending Machine project by Gnarly Marsh in the July issue. The Georgia Convention & Visitors TravelBlazers program recognizes community destinations with creative product development that demonstrates “tourism at the economic development table.” Gainesville Parks & Recreation (GPR) Director Kate Mattison had an idea about how to better connect visitors and residents to Lake Lanier, that draws 12 million visitors a year. With five public GPR parks on the lake, Kate saw a lack of accessibility to the lake and came up with the idea of a kayak vending machine. GPR partnered with Gnarly Marsh, a startup with the same idea born when the company’s founders were attending business school together. In May 2022, the Kayak Shack made its debut in Gainesville’s Longwood Park. Kayakers download the LINKA GO app, set up an account, pay the rental fee, and get a code to unlock one of the 10 stalls.
