Membership: An Outstanding Investment The Greater Hall Chamber's Annual Membership Campaign officially kicked off on February 1. Dozens of volunteers are gearing up to recruit new Chamber members and are offering a host of incentives. Chamber Vice Chairs of Membership Brian Rochester Phil Bonelli, Regions Bank, Rochester & Associates and Brett Fowler, Turner, Chairman, Greater Hall Wood & Smith Insurance, Chamber of Commerce are leading the drive. The Membership Campaign runs through March 31, and volunteers are seeking to develop new business relationships and recruit 100 new members. Chamber members enjoy many benefits including networking and leads development, advertising opportunities, committee participation, small business development programs, resourceful workshops, major expos and events and more. In addition, a Special Incentives Package is available when you join the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce NOW!

Major Impact on Small Businesses Small businesses represent the largest segment of most local chamber membership rolls, and the study indicates that chamber membership has consistent and powerful benefits for small businesses. (93% of the Greater Hall Chamber's members are small businesses.) According to the report, if respondents know that a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business (in Southern U.S.) enjoys a 45% increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 43% increase in consumer awareness, an 83% increase in its local reputation, and an 82% increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

A national survey of 2,000 adults reveals that being active in a local chamber of commerce is an effective business strategy because two-thirds of consumers believe that such companies use good business practices, are reputable, care about their customers, and are involved in the community. The study, conducted by The Schapiro Group, an Atlanta-based strategic consulting firm, and commissioned by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, found consumer perceptions of chamber members to be positive in many ways:

Visibility: Your Chamber increases your visibility within the community.

• When consumers know that a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 44% more likely to think favorably of it and 63% more likely to purchase goods or services from that company. • If a company shows that it is highly involved in its local chamber, consumers are 10% more likely to think that its products stack up better against its competition.

The Echols family has farmed in Hall and surrounding counties for over 100 years (L-R) the late Valvoreth Echols, Jimmy, Jarl, Judah and Drew Echols. Jaemor Farm Market turned forty years old last month. Beginning as a roadside fruit stand in the 1960s, the thriving agribusiness has seen 12 expansions over the years. The farm itself has doubled in size within the last ten years and is now up to some 500 acres. Since 1912, the Echols family has grown peaches in the tri-county area of Hall, Banks and Habersham counties, and the farm was recognized as a Centennial Farm in 2012. Jimmy and Valvoreth Echols owned Jaemor Farm Market from 1981 until 2015 when they sold the market to their sons Jarl and Judah Echols and grandson, Drew. Although the farm initially produced only peaches, chickens and cattle – it now produces over 15 crops including peaches, strawberries, blackberries, apples, tomatoes, squash and pumpkins. Phil Neikro: A Local Hero

Hall of Fame pitcher Phil Niekro was a resident and long time supporter of Gainesville-Hall County, making an impact through his involvement with numerous local non-profits. Niekro was inducted into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1997. The iconic knuckleballer collected 318 wins over a 24-year career that included stints with the Braves (1964-83 and '87), Yankees ('84-85), Tribe ('86-87) and Blue Jays ('87). He was a five-time AllStar and five-time Gold Glove Award winner who finished within the top six in National League Cy Young Award balloting five times from '69-82. 10

2020 Year End Report

economic development The Greater Hall Chamber Economic Development Council's 2020 year-end report includes 12 new and expanding firms adding 460 new jobs and $200 million in new capital investment to Gainesville-Hall County. 2020 has been a year full of challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for our healthcare service providers, the hospitality industry and some small businesses. However, there were encouraging announcements and developments in 2020 that indicate better than average economic performance for Gainesville-Hall County when compared to other Metro Areas in Georgia and the Nation. • New corporate facilities announced in 2020 include Amazon in South Hall, Fitueyes, ADD-USA, Dongwon Tech and the new Agile Cold Storage facility under construction on Athens Highway. • Existing industry expansions include Hydro, PPG, CantrellGainco and Corporate Storage. Previously announced projects currently under construction are Kubota’s new R&D facility, Fox Factory and the expansion at Mars-Wrigley.

• Major developments underway include Gainesville Renaissance and Gainesville Solis in Downtown Gainesville; the Residential Group developments in Flowery Branch; and at the University of North Georgia Gainesville campus. Projects in the works include The National, a hotel and conference center development in Downtown Gainesville. • Residential development grew with a record-setting 1,531 single-family home construction permits issued by local governments in 2020 – a 37% increase over 2019. According to Abernathy Cochran Real Estate Group at The Norton Agency, home sales were up 17% in 2020 with the average and median home prices up 16% and 14%. • 2.5 million square feet of new industrial speculative building developments are underway in Gainesville, Oakwood, Flowery Branch and Buford with many local firms employed in the construction and development of these projects. • In 2020, Site Selection Magazine named Gainesville-Hall County one of the top Small Metros in the Nation for job

Leadership Hall County (LHC) Class Member Jessica Palacios, owner of Cardinal Ridge Group, participates in one of Leadership Hall's recent program sessions via Zoom. Congratulations to Jessica, the first person in her class to complete ALL of her LHC homework! Leadership Hall's January Bonus Break focused on local industry progress and featured Tim Evans, Chamber VP of Economic Development, as the guest speaker. Tim discussed growth and industry in Gainesville-Hall County, sharing numerous exciting projects with the class. The LHC class reviewed the recently released 2020 Economic Development Year-End Report as well as the 2021 Economic Development Report and the Economic Accolades.

Youth Leadership Hall Youth Leadership Hall class members typically travel to the State Capitol for the Annual State Government program. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the program was delivered in a "hybrid" format this year. In January, Senator Butch Miller welcomed the students via video and gave them an overview of the Georgia Capitol and a brief history lesson on the building. He informed the students of the issues for the upcoming legislation session and discussed the State Budget. Students then had the opportunity to virtually meet our local delegation and watch a recording of Eggs & Issues from the December meeting. Senator Miller was elected in 2010 to represent the 49th Senate District (covering the majority of Hall County), and in January 2018, he was elected Senate President Pro Tempore. He has graciously hosted Youth Leadership Hall County and Leadership Hall participants for many years. The Hall-Dawson CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program is a nonprofit organization providing quality advocacy for abused and neglected children in our community. CASA trains and empowers community volunteers in Hall and Dawson counties to help change a child’s story. CASA Volunteers ensure children have someone who will amplify their voice in the courtroom and make sure that their best interests are being served. CASA Volunteers are appointed to a child or sibling group by a Juvenile Court Judge to complete an independent assessment of the child’s and family’s needs, report their findings and make recommendations to the court. Their sole responsibility is to be an independent voice for the child and to advocate to ensure every child receives the services they need to recover from the abuse and neglect they have experienced. Children with a dedicated volunteer by their side have someone who will speak up for their best interests in the courtroom and community, and help them find the road home, wherever it lies. Last year, Hall-Dawson CASA served more than 350 children who are experiencing foster care. Currently, there are more than 100 children who do not have the benefit of CASA advocacy, and volunteers are needed.
