FROM the CHAIR

Transportation: An Economic Engine Transportation planning plays a fundamental role in a community’s vision for its future. Transportation helps shape an area’s economic health and quality of life. Not only does the transportation system provide for the mobility of people and goods, it also influences patterns of growth and economic activity by providing access to land. Transportation services include new and existing roads to relieve traffic congestion, newly installed bike lanes and sidewalks on roads, the Gainesville Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport, passenger and freight trains, truck traffic and logistics initiatives as well as the newly announced Northeast Georgia Inland Port. Transportation is one of the most determining factors in economic activity. It is an economic engine. There is no doubt that Hall County is growing, and with growth comes an increase in demand for transportation options. In Gainesville-Hall President & CEO, Northeast Georgia Health County we have created a great place to live and work. We are attracting System; Chair, Greater Hall businesses, employees and retirees from all parts of the country, as well as Chamber of Commerce seeing our existing industries and businesses experience significant growth. Hall County is also providing employment for people who drive in from all parts of Northeast Georgia. These permanent and daily population changes have increased the demands on Gainesville-Hall County’s infrastructure and transportation systems. Carol Burrell

The transportation planning process is more than just listing highway and transit capital projects. It requires developing strategies for operating, managing, maintaining, and financing the area’s transportation system in such a way as to advance the area’s long-term goals. An important part of the planning process is the publics' participation in developing long term goals and setting short term priorities for the region's transportation system. The Chamber's Annual Transportation Forum (held March 7) is a catalyst for informing the community of the latest transportation projects for our area. The forum featured Brandon Kirby, Assistant D1 District Engineer, Georgia Department of Transportation. GDOT's District 1 is comprised of a 21-county area including Hall County. Srikanth Yamala, Director, Gainesville-Hall County Metropolitan Planning Organization (GHMPO). The GHMPO is an intergovernmental transportation planning body for Gainesville-Hall County and a portion of western Jackson County. Yamala is an experienced urban planner, working with local governments and regional agencies on land use and transportation planning. Bryan Lackey, Gainesville City Manager, also participated in the program.

March 7, 2019 • Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce

Working together and keeping an eye on our community's transportation and infrastructure needs will ensure we remain the best place in Georgia to work, play and stay!

Lea Tavani, Ace Hardware Distribution Center, honors Danny Restrepo, East Hall High School, for already starting his future with the Army Reserves. Youth Leadership Hall had an excellent day learning about industry in Hall County as Tim Evans, Chamber VP of Economic Development, greeted the students and gave them an overview of industry in the area. Students visited Mountain Fresh Creamery to learn about agriculture, meet moo friends and enjoyed ice cream for breakfast. Ace Hardware Distribution Center catered lunch for the students and provided tours of the facility. The class finished out the day with a visit to King's Hawaiian in Oakwood and saw the bakery's expansive growth. A special thank you to Bojangles' and Clipper Petroleum for providing breakfast.

The Leadership Hall Class recently visited the Georgia State Capitol spending the day with our local delegation and distributing the special Chicken Boxes to all legislators. The boxes, filled with items from Gainesville-Hall County, are always a special treat. Many thanks to President Pro Tempore Senator Butch Miller, Senator John Wilkinson, Rep. Lee Hawkins, Rep. Emory Dunahoo Jr, Rep. Matt Dubnik and Rep. Timothy Barr. Abit Massey, Georgia Poultry Federation, and Deb Bailey, Northeast Georgia Health System Government Affairs, joined the class as speakers for lunch. A special thank you to Tate O'Rouke and David Lee, and the Jackson EMC team for sponsoring lunch. Thank you to Chick-fil-A Robson Crossing for sponsoring breakfast. Thank you Senator Butch Miller and his team for not only sponsoring transportation but also providing logistical support in Atlanta for the day.

The products contain from zero to less than 0.3% THC, the psycho-active component in cannabis, and include CBD oil tinctures, water soluble supplements, vape oils, pain relief cream, skin lotion, various edibles, and dog and cat treats and oils. Research has shown that CBD and other cannabinoids enhance the human neurological system with numerous benefits, such as inflammation and pain reduction and relief from depression, anxiety, insomnia, migraines and seizures. In addition to meats such as smoked pork butt, St. Louis cut ribs and smoked turkey, side dishes include specialties like smoked chicken mull, house made pickles, greens with bacon, creamy mac and cheese, buttermilk fried okra and smoked baked beans. Open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.
