“The agriculture industry is the biggest business in the state of Georgia, so we are excited that Kubota, a world leader in agriculture equipment, has chosen Georgia as the home of its North American Research and Development Center." - Governor Brian Kemp

VOLUME 27 ISSUE 11

Celebrating the American Entrepreneurial Spirit The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) National Small Business Week kicked off May 2. This year, the SBA acknowledges small businesses from across the country for their resilience, ingenuity and creativity. As we pivot and continue building a better America, our entrepreneurial spirit Phil Sutton has grown stronger. New Kubota Manufacturing of America, Chairman, business applications grew Greater Hall Chamber by nearly 30 percent during the pandemic, with 5.4 million applications in 2021 alone, according to the SBA. We join the SBA and celebrate the resiliency and tenacity of America’s entrepreneurs who are doing their part to power our nation’s historic economic comeback. Our small businesses empower our economic growth, strengthen our supply chains, and deliver the products and services Americans depend on every day.

Small Business in Hall County

• 5,190 Businesses in Hall County in 2021 • 99% are Small Businesses (using SBA’s definition of 500 or fewer employees) • 93% Employ fewer than 50

This year we announced 36 small business owners earned the Greater Hall Chamber’s “Certified Small Business Partner” designation by participating in six or more small business seminars. The Chamber continues to provide a valuable forum for small business owners to network and learn from other professionals. Don't miss the May 10th Small Business Seminar as Lorra Lee of Small Business Access Partners (SBAP) gives an overview of funding resources for small business. We'll also celebrate SBAP's 40 years of SBA financing with local lenders and small businesses. Our partners at the UGA Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are enhancing the economic well-being of Georgians by providing a wide range of educational services for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. SBDC provides tools, training and resources to help small businesses grow and succeed. Another valuable resource is SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives). SCORE is the nation’s largest network of volunteer, expert business mentors, and is dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals. Hayes celebrates 50th Anniversary Brothers A.D. and Donald Hayes opened a small auto dealership in Lawrenceville, Georgia in 1971 with the goal of treating each customer like family. Today, over 50 years later, that dealership has prospered and grown into a four-dealership powerhouse in North Georgia that boasts more than 350 employees. “We’re elated about the first 50 years of the Hayes Automotive Group and can’t wait to see what the next half-century holds for us," said Chad Hayes, Corporate Controller. “From Day One, we have been all about family,” said Dusty Hayes, General Manager. “Three generations later, AD and Donald Hayes’ children and grandchildren all have roles in the business as partners, and we have carried on the tradition of treating each customer as a family member. This can only be done with loyalty, honesty and genuine concern for everyone who walks through our doors.” Hayes dealerships are involved in the communities they serve. Each store partners with two or more local schools, and they serve as Toys for Tots collection centers each year. In addition, the Hayes family members serve on many local boards and charities because they actually live in the communities in which they do business. hayeschevrolet.com 6

member news Schofield recognized for teacher residency program Will Schofield, Superintendent of Hall County Schools, recently received the 2022 Johnnye V. Cox Award from the University of Georgia through the Mary Francis Early College of Education's program in educational administration and policy. Schofield was nominated for his involvement with the teacher residency program at the University of North Georgia (UNG). The partnership between the UNG and Hall County Schools helps combat rising teacher shortages by providing paid internships to senior education majors. Students who intern with the teacher residency program are paid one-half of a beginning teacher’s salary. They are also considered full-time Hall County School District employees and are assessed under the same model as other Georgia educators. “Instead of taking a few classes and doing a little student teaching, we put them to work with a mentor from UNG and a mentor assigned by the Hall County School District,” Schofield said. “We just think it's the best of all worlds and will give young people yet another reason to consider going into the field of education.” Food Truck Friday returns on the second Friday of every month this spring and summer at Lake Lanier Olympic Park’s Northeast Georgia Health System Plaza.
