The Real Value of Joining the Chamber The Greater Hall Chamber's Annual Membership Campaign officially kicked off on Monday, January 28. Over 50 volunteers are gearing up to recruit new Chamber members and are offering a host of incentives. Chamber Vice Chair of Membership Brett Fowler of Turner, Wood & Smith Insurance, is leading the drive. The Membership Campaign runs through March 1, and volunteers are seeking to develop new business relationships and recruit 100 new members. Chamber Members enjoy many benefits including networking and leads development, advertising opportunities, committee participation, small business development programs, resourceful workshops, major expos and events and more. In addition, a Special Incentives Package is available when you join the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce NOW through March 1 (See box on back page.) The study, conducted by The Schapiro Group, an Atlanta-based strategic consulting firm, and commissioned by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, found consumer perceptions of chamber members to be positive in many ways: • When consumers know that a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, they are 44% more likely to think favorably of it and 63% more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future. • If a company shows that it is highly involved in its local chamber, consumers are 10% more likely to think that its products stack up better against its competition. • When consumers know that an insurance company is a member of the chamber, they are 36% more likely to think favorably of the company.

Small businesses represent the largest segment of most local chamber membership rolls, and the study indicates that chamber membership has consistent and powerful benefits for small businesses. (90% of the Greater Hall Chamber's members are small businesses.) According to the report, if respondents know that a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business (in Southern U.S.) enjoys a 45% increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 43% increase in consumer awareness, a 83% increase in its local reputation, and an 82% increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Youth Leadership students met Governor Kemp and President Pro Tempore Senator Butch Miller and sat in on both the House and Senate. The group met our local delegation for lunch, and the students had numerous questions for them based on what they had witnessed earlier in the day. The favorite part of the day for the students was spending an hour on the Senate Floor with Senator Butch Miller. The development of its third residential facility in Flowery Branch will serve 144 residents with 64 independent living apartments and 20 supportive living apartments.
