Spread the Christmas Spirit: Shop Local

Brian Rochester

Rochester & Associates Chairman, Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce

With the Christmas Season upon us, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to live in this dynamic community with a healthy business climate, strong leadership and unparalleled quality of life. Our Chamber is considered one of the most progressive in the State, and I am honored to be a part of such a successful organization.

Our community offers the unique opportunity to shop at a variety of independent, small businesses as well as large retailers. Take advantage of the diverse shopping alternatives here in Gainesville-Hall County. Keep our tax dollars local and boost our area economy. When you shop, dine and purchase services in Gainesville-Hall County, you give our community the best gift of all – your sales tax dollars. Your local buying generates sales tax dollars that work throughout the year to improve our community in many different ways.

I am mindful of our members consisting mainly of small businesses. In fact, some 90% of Chamber members are small businesses, and many of these are retail establishments. I encourage you to continue to support these and other stores scattered throughout Gainesville-Hall County and boost sales to keep our locals thriving. Your dollars spent with locally-owned businesses not only have a great impact on our economy, but also simultaneously create jobs, fund more services through sales tax, invest in neighborhood improvement and promote community development. Consider a gift of original art from the Quinlan Visual Arts Center or the Gallery on the Square. Pick up a gift certificate at one of our many restaurants – from Antebellum in Flowery Branch to Scott's Downtown (the Chamber's December Small Business of the Month), TWO Dog or Luna's. Honor a friend or make a donation in memory of someone to a charitable organization. Remember the true meaning of Christmas as we rush to purchase gifts for family and friends. Shop HERE, in our community, and remember our LOCAL merchants. Happy Holidays!

vision 2030 Vision 2030 Public Art officials shared their goals at the 'State of the Art' event in November. After five years of the committee’s efforts, led by chairman Frank Norton Jr. , some 125 pieces of art have already been added to the original inventory of 75. Additional initiatives included Protective Angel sculptures for our public safety departments, free-range art program featuring student artists, the Great Wall mural welcoming people into Gainesville, the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue tower restoration and many others. New art instal- LeTrell Simpson, Vision 2030 Public Arts Committee member. lations are made possible through donations from the community, individuals and local businesses. Upcoming projects include launching the Latin wall initiative, implementing the Midland art zone, and focusing efforts on the Downtown Alley, Go Go Transportation Art at bus stops, Poultry Park and recreating the historic Lost Wall mural. In the next five years, Vision 2030 Public Art wants to continue to create a “Discover, Explore, Experience” feel; diversify and strengthen existing art zones in the community; make art integral in place-making operations; and finally, make Hall County the number one place in Georgia for public art. vision2030.org Sponsored by the Greater Hall Chamber and funded through HALLmark, Vision 2030 is a community project with participation encouraged from everyone in Hall County. Volunteers champion initiatives and propel the Vision 2030 Big Ideas forward through collaborative partnerships with government, education, business and non-profits. Vision2030.org
