THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOUSE AND A CUSTOM HOME! By: Rosa Santiago Zimmerman RSZ Interiors www.RSZInteriors.com

keeping everyone together. Including every member of the family is important when designing a custom home, and that includes the furry kind. Adding bathroom features, pet-proofed fencing, access doors, food storage, napping nooks and built-in water bowls are some of the details that should be crafted into a pet-friendly custom home. Your home is your sanctuary, the place where your family gathers to work, play, restore and just be together. It is also a place where you entertain, welcome clients, friends, neighbors and extended family. Everyday life happens at home, so creating a custom space you love to live in requires forethought and lots of planning, but the rewards of having every detail taken into account, designed and customized just for you is what distinguishes a house from a HOME. Security Tips

TOP TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOME AND VEHICLE SECURE! Your home should absolutely be your “safe place” that you and your family can depend on, enjoy and feel at ease. As we are well into our summer months, vehicle larcenies and burglaries are on the rise everywhere. May through August consistently see an increase in these crimes, as even criminals and mischievous teenagers prefer warm weather! Fortunately, a little education can go a long way in further preventing these crimes while maintaining the safety and sanctity of your home. 1. Evaluate your property working from the outside to the inside (street or golf course access, your property line, the innermost landscaping, and then entry points). Home burglaries do not begin at the entry into your home, but the entire process of entering your property. The further you can keep unwanted people away from your house, the greater chance of protecting your home. 2. Visibility and deterrents are KEY in crime prevention. Be sure to install motion lighting (to keep intruders away from your actual home), cameras (that are visible as a deterrent) and strategic landscaping. Avoid large landscaping directly around doors and windows as they provide cover for someone to make entry into your home. You want to make it as inconvenient as possible to gain access to your home. And of course, ACTIVATE your alarm systems and use them. Allow your systems to work while you sleep. 3. Alarm systems should be strategic and intentional. IF someone were to gain access to your home, how far 12

would they get? Work with angles and cover as much space as possible with motion sensors working from entry points. Entry points include doors and windows. Security is a layered system so consider the movement of an intruder and where they would want to go (i.e. where valuables are most likely to be found). 4. When making valuable purchases, break down boxes as to not give enticing clues that you have brand new electronics inside. 5. IF someone makes entry, how can you assist police? • Photos, estimated values or receipts, and serial numbers. • Track electronics with serial numbers and photos of valuable jewelry since they are needed to compare for pawn shop inventory (as that’s the most likely place for jewelry to appear) 6. Vehicle larcenies are popular due to being a “crime of opportunity” and low risk of interaction with the owner. Keep your vehicles LOCKED at all times. Do not ever keep keys inside the vehicle (even when parked in the garage) and be sure there are no visible valuables on seats. If you can, avoid keeping anything of true value inside your vehicle. A crime of opportunity occurs when individuals can simply look in a window, see something of value, and check for an unlocked door. a. **SAFETY TIP: Do not program your home address into your navigation systems. IF your car were to be stolen from a public location, the last thing you want is a simple button with turn by turn directions to your home. Use a nearby landmark like a restaurant or other public building. July 2020

This Could Be You! day you notice a small fleck of discolored paint peeling on your Imagine ...one breakfast room wall. Next thing you know, you find yourself with a sledge hammer and pry bar ripping out sheetrock in your beautiful kitchen and discovering tens of thousands of live termites eating and destroying your wall. It’s obvious to you that they’ve already done thousands of dollars in damages. That’s what termites do to beautiful homes just like yours every day. By the time you discover their presence, the damage is done. And when you realize the whole thing was easily preventable, it makes you sick to your stomach!

Termites: A $5 Billion Threat Eastern subterranean termites are the most typical species that attacks homes in Georgia. Their underground colonies can contain up to a million termites working together to do one thing: Eat Your Home! Their destructive nature causes more damage than fire and floods combined. These damages are not covered by your homeowner’s insurance. Don’t be a victim. Call Today!!

“I love this company! I love the way your techs educated me on termites and what I can do to keep them from destroying my home.” – Jane P., Winder, Georgia
